lol lemonaid... Thanks for putting me back.

chipmonkey · 17/12/2007 22:19

Poor gemprincess! Your name must be just at the end of the bit that is the maximum size you can cut and paste!

Hi Ladies,

It's great to hear about your different experiences of breast feeding. I'm definitely going to try my best at it although I've heard it can be really hard. By the way, does it really help you lose weight? One of my friends put on 16 kilos (2.5 ston) during her pregnancy and in less than 3 months lost it all. She puts it down to breasfeeding...

Wollymummy: The short sharp virus could be the Noro virus that's being going around. I got it the night before I got o a plane to the USA. I was still getting sick on my way to the airport. Not a nice trip...

Santasnotsolittlehelper: I often get mouth ulcers, they are such a pain. The best remedy I ever found is this stuff they sell in Boots. It comes in cotton buds and you only need to apply it to the ulcer once. It costly at about £9 for just a box which only has 3 cotton buds and the hitch is that it hurts like hell for a few seconds when you put it on (not sure how a child would take it) but after that you hardly feel the ulcer at all. It really is great.

chipmonkey · 17/12/2007 22:41

Molly, if you are by nature a sensible eater, bf definitely helps you lose weight. If on the other hand you use it as an excuse to eat cake all the time, it probably won't help! FWIW for a breastfeeding Mum, Weightwatchers allow an extra 10 points for exclusive bfing, and an extra 5 points when baby is over 6 months and being weaned.

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 17/12/2007 22:45

Molly, apparently breastfeeding alone uses 500 calories a day!
Also you get really thirsty (or at least I did) so you drink tons of water whilst feeding and dont end up as hungry iyswim.
Plus it makes your uterus contract so it goes back into the proper shape quicker.

Breastfeeding itself, ime, isn't hard, it's the fact that at the beginning it is very tiring, because it is, at times, constant, whereas with formula feeding you're told, 'give baby this much milk this many times a day'.

Once you've got your latch sorted, and especially if you sidecar or co-sleep so you can pull baby over to feed in the night, you actually a lot more sleep, so it is much easier, plus no sterilising or making up bottles etc. They both have pros and cons in that respect.

Sometimes people find breastfeeding hard, you can get sore nipples or a very demanding baby etc so if you do try it and do end up feeling like you aren't coping, talk to someone, there will be tons of advice available, it's just finding it.

SantasNotSoLittleHelper · 18/12/2007 11:11

Morning all. Back still hurts like hell but nicked the lift key from DH's office yesterday so don´t have to cope with the stairs Molly - thanks for that, will have to get my mum to get me some at the airport tomorrow.

Sheds75 · 18/12/2007 11:14

Love coffee, found it harder to stop drinking that than alcohol! although I do allow myself a few cups a day. Never thought of it making LO wriggle, will test it out later ...

SantasGotABigFatEllieG · 18/12/2007 11:22

Take it easy santa/soph - not good to have poorly back at xmas with your DS off school.

Coffee makes mine wiggle loads! Is quite fun though I feel a bit mean so I restrict myself to no more than 3 cups a day. Am on 2nd now so will save one for post-lunch lull

OP posts:
PortAndLemonaid · 18/12/2007 11:30

I can't stand the taste of coffee when I'm pregnant, so that's not an issue for me...

She's been less wriggly lately -- still movements, but I had several days of HUGE kicks that you could easily see from the outside and now she's back to smaller kicks.

northfeastmummy · 18/12/2007 11:32

Wow - does coffee really do that? I drink decaf and not very much of it when I'm pregnant really. I just go off it.

Would chocolate have the same effect?

Sheds75 · 18/12/2007 11:38

loads of people go off coffee apparently ! I think if I had I would have been slightly upset, what else would I dunk my biscuits in

SantasNotSoLittleHelper · 18/12/2007 11:38

I only have 2 more days at work then 2 weeks off - hooray However, I´ve got so much work to do and just can´t be arsed to do it

SantasNotSoLittleHelper · 18/12/2007 11:41

Sheds - tea is much better for dunking biscuits in imo, then again I only drink 1 cup of coffee a day! Sam was doing his aerobics again at 4.45am so am quite tired now!

Sheds75 · 18/12/2007 11:45

so at your time left at work, I have till Friday Lunch to do, but then I too get 2 weeks off, and after the move desperatly need it

DennytwasNewYear · 18/12/2007 11:45

Coke does too.

Little story for you all, I dont normally work on Mon but had to go in to do training session yesterday leaving Dh in charge of school run. Not a difficult challenge you would think. Anyhow he managed to get DD to school and almost on time (would like to point out bags were packed, packed lunch made, kids were washed dressed and eating breakfast before I left), then continued the loop around to get back home posting his letter on route. Feeling v proud of himsef he pootled on back home, whilst making himself a cup of tea to reward his hard work he realised the dog was missing, cue brain function, still tied up by the school where he had left it!! Needless to say there were several mums quick to rush up and tell me how feckless my DH was that morning, men dont you just love them, almost as endless in the entertainment stakes as kids!

SantasNotSoLittleHelper · 18/12/2007 11:52

at your DH Denny. Hours of endless fun!

scorpio1 · 18/12/2007 12:01

LOL at your DH denny.

i am pissed off today.

im tired, got a cold and nursery are wankers.

doc told me as long as Jay has had his medicine he is fine for nursery. nursery disagree, despite the Health protection agency, patient uk and NHS direct, and my 2 doctors telling me he is allowed to, he is no longer infectious, we just have to make doubly sure he washes his hands.

they rang me up after i had to go see MW (had to today, bp high and seeing stars)and wanted me to get him, cue another bus ride and all this before 10am.

i am so right and they are wrong. manager even thought you could catch them from my cat. (who, FYI is regularly given flea/worming treatment).

WANKERS

sorry i am cross and trying to pack for holiday with Jay pulling at me for food 24/7 and trying to throughly clean the house every day to minimise re-infection risk. dp was supposed to get paid on friday, no money as yet. need it to go away with tomorrow. everything is wanky.

Millie ok at MW though, heard her heart beat and bp slightly lower than last time.

DennytwasNewYear · 18/12/2007 12:07

You could do without that stress if your BP is already up, have you considered other nurseries/CM's? The one hes at now seem a bit on the crap side - bet you still have to pay even though they dont want him there despite being given the ok.

scorpio1 · 18/12/2007 12:10

i will not be paying for today, full stop.

when he had toddler diarrhoea, they said he couldnt come either. i missed 4 weeks of uni. its not infectious btw, just something in an individual iyswim?

they are annoying me, but its so close to my house and he loves it, and staff are nice and friendly.

they do however need some health education IMO.

DennytwasNewYear · 18/12/2007 12:16

some nurseries do seem to try and get rid of kids at the drop of a hat. DD is asthmatic and B4 we moved she went to a child minder who would deal with the majority of things as long as not infectious to the other kids, when we moved she was 18/12 old so decided to put her in nursery, the slightest wheeze and they want to send her home even though she was well managed and had inhalers there. Kids are always getting something or another surley if well and not infectious they should care for them the same as normal.

Hope your day improves and you get your packing done, at least you have a hol to look forward to.

SantasGotABigFatEllieG · 18/12/2007 12:20

They sound a bit annoying - but nurseries quite often seem to have weird rules. I had to call one for a client the other day cos they were telling her they would not stop her XP (weird, violent tosser) from picking up LO despite her EXPRESSLY saying he was not to because he was her father and therefore they could not stop him. I rang manager told her in no uncertain terms that this bloke did not have PR and if they let him take the child without his mother's permission they would be in very hot water indeed. I mean, how stupid? This poor lady was having to keep child off nursery cos she was afraid XP would turn up and take him and they would just let him go.

Anyway - none of that helps you scorpio sorry am just having a rant - virtual hugs and sympathy for you ((((scorpio))))

LOL at your DH Denny
