Ladies sorry for being AWOL. Just hectic, all fine with me and Beanie though. Hope everyone is well and happy and hope to catch up very very soon

Amani · 11/12/2007 11:13

Morning all,

Hope you ladies are ok .

Had mw appointment this morning and everything was fine. She did pick up some contractions on her monitoring machine, but reckons they must have been B-H (fingers crossed for maybe not!! )

Had a crap night sleep last night too... ...woke up at around 2AM feeling starving , so went down stairs and had a bowl of cornflakes and couldn't settle down after that.

merrykatyt1 · 11/12/2007 11:35

what is it with the not sleeping? i mean i know we need to pee but i toss and turn (as much as poss with achiness) for ages afterwards. then of course when it's actually time to get up and ds is shouting i feel i could sleep forever!

contraction vibes to you amani ~~~~~~
and anyone else who wants them ~~~~~~

just not for those of us who aren't ready yet.
i'm 34 weeks today and sometimes it still feels like absolutely ages to go, then other time maybe not, i mean 3 weeks and it would be ok, eek!

hi mrsmc - see you for a good cath up soon!

sab - hope you get your swim in - i went this morning, but i feel like such a fool doing half breaststroke! like some demented doggiepaddler
is nice to feel like you get your body back tho, just for 20mins

ange - i'm waddling too!

lolo - dh read somewhere about honey being better for coughs than cough medicine and that little ones shoudln't really be given the stuff in the medicine so it's banned in our house now, just need to get stocks of honey in i think!

got decs & tree down yesterday to put up with dh later, made a dent in christmas cards and got some shopping done, need to start working on my pre-baby to do list soon tho!

right, work to be done, back later, kt

WeAllWantSomeFluffyPudding · 11/12/2007 11:46

Hi all , happy Tuesday to everyone.

Thanks for the sympathy for DS's cold/cough thing and my pants night on Sunday...took him to the GP yesterday and she agreed that 3 weeks was an awfully long time for him to have a cough (and really nicely pointed out that he hasn't been to the doctor since July, so she knows I'm not a massively overprotective worrying mum!), so prescribed antibiotics as a last resort. If he's still hacking away in a week or so we have to take him back for asthma tests .

Lolo - we're feeding him spoons of honey alongside all the 'real' medicine and he's loving it!!!

Minimal coughing from DS last night, but I still didn't sleep for more than 30mins at a stretch, and seem to have joined the 'wake at 3 and don't go back to sleep ever again' club on a permanent basis. If I wasn't still working I could probably cope, but I'm finding it really difficult to work on major revenue forecasting and development documents when my head feels stuffed full of cotton wool....

Fruitful - I shouldn't grumble given what you're dealing with...big hugs from me too!!!

Uggh, another meeting, so got to run. Might head home after this one if my head doesn't stop feeling like someone replaced it with a pumpkin during the night.......growth scan on Thursday, so very excited to see LO again .

Hugs all round, Fluffy xx

lilyloo · 11/12/2007 12:46

Afternoon ladies at least with it being more quiet on here i can keep up
Hope everyone feeling ok am just off to midwife apt then have ds's xmas concert tonight.
It's so hectic on top of all usual christmas stuff trying to get baby stuff organised. Not sure whether to put birth pool away in loft over xmas as will need room for toys but then thinking it may need to come back down and we haven't even tested it yet!
Oh well will make do am sure hope you all have lovely afternoons xx LL

merrykatyt1 · 11/12/2007 13:03

hi lily - we haven't decided what to do with pool either - atm it's in a box, i must get round to ordering a new liner - when we put it up ds will want to get in it surely!? so do we let him? do we inflater it but try to hide it in spare room? can see us getting it stuck halfway up the stairs !

all so much easier first time round...

have fun at the concert tonight

jinglebeller · 11/12/2007 13:14

Hello everyone!!!

I was at my sisters sunday and yesturday..and also had lunch with a friend, and helped him an dhis daughters decorate their tree..must do mine tomorrow!!
Anyhoo.....
Naetha - I have been quite good with food...i dont even have asthma but havnt had peanuts..but then read that it was ok..so had some sunday! Have had the odd glass of red when i have been out..apart from that, think i have been good?

Seasidemamma - Im with you on the fear of epidurals....im more scared of the thought of that ,then i am of the thought of labour!! x

Luckysalem - NOt sure about the scan, but its today? So good luck and let us know how it went xx

Fluffy - Hope ds is better now? seems to be a few bugs doing the rounds?? xx

KAty1 - My hips are really achy too...seem to be worse at night, and not sleeping great! xx

Im good, apart from aching hips..not sleeping great, so a bit tired, bit need to slow down on the lunches i think to have a few snoozes! Although the lunches are good . Had docs today as midwife was too busy this week!! All ok...she was very happy with everything apart from my choice of homebirth, she said she would never recommend it for a first birth..but ihavnt let her put me off!
Im 37+4 now...although babybel feels very low and heavy, i dont feel like birth is very close by, but then what do i know as this is my first!
Hope everyone is well and big hugs xxxxx

Beller
x

merrykatyt1 · 11/12/2007 13:33

hey beller - sounds good all this eating out and having fun
good for you sticking up for home birth, hope it goes well.
i was reading my pg diary and the day before i went into labour i wrote:
'absolutely no signs of baby coming, no twinges, nothing. sure i will be overdue'
next morning 5am it all started!!

re food - i have mostly been good, but eaten what i've felt like at the same time. have had seafood, and nuts, and wine.
but no brie i don't think, don't really go for pate so no great loss there, anything else? hmm not been on a new rollercoaster i want to go on !

madChristmasmouse · 11/12/2007 14:10

Hi all

Even more sleep deprived now. Tried everything, watched TV on/over my birth ball last night, relaxed, used a hot wheat bag, had a paracetamol at 11 and another one at 4, and still had a really sore night. Will give it a few more nights before wondering about visiting a chiropractor or something. Not sure about 7 weeks of this , aargh, watch me grumble, sorry!!

Beller, you seem very chipper, glad you and babybel are doing well. Silly doctor 'not recommending homebirth with first one', first ones transfer a bit more often usually because long labours make them tired, but so what? Good for you not letting it throw you.

Fluffy, love the BUMPSnet post. Would surely love to know what mine gets up to, he is so big and strong now he can make me quite uncomfortable .

for all those waddling. I am still managing a fairly stiff walking pace. Off to the Forest of Dean tomorrow until Friday. The weather is supposed to be good and I hope for some good walking. Have a bit of a dilemma, Daphne, the farmer's wife, does the most amazing breakfast. Is it ok to have her lovely fried eggs with runny yolks?

sabinar · 11/12/2007 16:35

madmouse - I'm jealous re: the walking. I was just observing today how ridiculously slowly I'm walking these days. Particularly when I'm tired... if I'm not careful I'm going to accidentally start going backwards I think. Much patience required. Again with the 'good practice for when LO arrives' I guess.

well. i just had to have an afternoon nap this afternoon and have dragged myself out of bed to get a couple of hours of work done before DH gets home and we have to go out. Had better get on with it I guess.

Oooh, before I do. Quick question with a possible TMI warning... has anyone been doing any perineal massage? My midwife gave me a CD to listen to ages ago that supposedly 'walks you though' the process, but I have to admit that it's a bit to close to the reality of labour for me to have brought myself to listen to it - until last night (because I'm seeing her again tomorrow and can't bear to say I haven't done any!). It still kind of freaks me out a bit and I have no idea if I'm actually doing it right... just wondering if anyone else is similarly freaked out/confused? I should keep at it, shouldn't I.....?

MrsMcJnr · 11/12/2007 16:50

Well ? I am so pleased that it didn?t take me long to catch up and that everyone is doing fine apart from the sleepless nights, some pesky contractions that don?t amount to the real thing and waddling

I?m certainly with you on the sleepless nights and the waddling

Thanks for the hug MadChristmasMouse and the good advice I just try to do too much. I?m definitely taking my own ball into hospital, along with my ?Nathan? pillow and yogs mat. I intend to roll about on the ball with my face and body and I don?t want other women?s secretions on me apparently they don?t wash them. Also, I think the ones I have seen at the hospital are too small for me to enable my hips to be above my knees.

Isawsusie ? thanks hon LOL at your Dad?s euphemisms. Did you win your eBay item? You didn?t sound bossy at all I sold my first item on eBay this week, very exciting

Hello Barristermum how are you?! Sounds like we are feeling similarly about the tugs of work and Mummy mode ? I just feel I need time to make the transition and get my head round it all. I?m already at the stage where when I go to bed at night exhausted and I hope Beanie doesn?t choose that night to arrive. 4th Jan is so late for you still to be working hon, I don?t know how you will do it, honestly. I am running out of steam now.

Lulubump congratulations on the engagement sorry you didn?t pass your test and that the examiner was mean I had one of those too. I passed on my 3rd attempt.

Letsgo hello

Luckystar ? how was that hot bath? must be lovely to have hot water again. My cat removed her collar immediately when I got her and we?ve never bothered with collars since, mine are house cats though. How annoying that they wouldn?t give you info at you?re AN appointment it makes me sooo cross

Hey Fluffymummy ? I got some opaque black tights from Mothercare for £5 they are great, so comfy and so far I have worn them at least 6 times PMSL at your Christmas name, very creative Mine will be MrsMcClaus again like last year butyl am being a dunce about changing it how is DS? And how are you feeling?

Hey Amani ? how are you?

MerryKaty, Sabinar ? hey ladies

Fruitful hope you are ok hon, I can?t believe you?ll have your baby in 8 days!! I?ve begun the ?maybe tonight? thing even though I am only 35 weeks due to my family history!! I am sorry to hear that you feel sad for missing things huge hugs. Sounds awful hearing all those ladies in pain

Lilyloo ? thanks for your sympathies hon

Lolo ? sounds like you are having a stressful time at work hon another good turning tip I got at an Active Birth workshop this weekend (which was FAB) you can buy low plastic stools from Au Naturale and if you sit on them on a cushion, it?s great for positioning and oh so comfy ? honestly!

Angel (think en is fine ) I only passed my test 3 years ago too, no incentive before then (I am 34 very soon).

Spud ? hello

Beller ? sounds like you are enjoying mat leave I have arranged a few lunches for when I start mine too but my sis is predicting that Beanie will come before Christmas and I won?t be able to go to any of them

Awen ? thanks for the link, will check it out later how are things with you? Have been wondering how you are. Work is just getting worse but I can only do what I can, the more the pile on now, the less I can actually finish.

Toomanyshoes ? wow exciting things going on with you!! keep us posted.

Nicky6 ? I hope you are taking good care of yourself you sound soo busy.

Seasidemama ? never too late hon welcome!

Naetha ? I tried and tried to give up peanut butter but couldn?t

Met my friend?s beautiful 5 week old daughter this weekend I cuddled her for ages

Got a few baby related things done recently ? finished my NCT classes, finished my AN classes, been to Active Birth workshop, DH has finished Dads 2 B and I have ordered my tens machine, the baby monitor and a ear thermometer. I am bidding for a mobile for the nature?s nest on eBay and have also got the buggy and car seat at home and have washed all the nature?s nest bedding. I need to get some more sheets and blankets but I am nearly there I haven?t practised my self-hypnosis, started my perineal massage, done nearly enough foetal positioning or pelvic floor exercises nor have I got enough rest though ? hey ho.

What have the rest of you got left to do and buy?!

jinglebeller · 11/12/2007 17:21

Katy1 - That would be so cool if i went into lobour tomorrow!! Lets hope im wrong and labour is soon!!

Sabinar - I cant say I have been trying hard, but i dont think i can reach?!?!

Madmouse - Yup...too tired, or need of more pain relief i think are the most common for 1st time mums, im not going to be a martyr, and if the midwife says to go in i will..so still full steam ahead for home!

Mrsmchnr - My friends keep telling me to slow down, but i think if i have plans, then babybel is sure to upset some of them . I am going to take it easy a bit more though as my hips are aching!

NOt sure whether i should be resting more because of hips, or keeping active with a shortish walk each day? what do you think?
(should have asked doc today!!)
x

Hi all, I watched a DVD lent by a work colleague called "in the womb", talked about the senses the baby experiences while still in there - I was sad to realise that at this rate my LO will be soothed by sounds of flatulence as that's all they must hear right now.

just made my signature paella ... DH loves it.

Hey MrsMc, I've yet to buy a baby monitor, and a high chair (not needed for a few months yet though, is it)- friend offered a wooden one but it was quite badly covered in 2 toddlers' worth of food grime and would need sanding down etc. Went to a good NCT nearly new sale the other week and got a nice 0-3 white snowsuit for £2. Would recommend them if you can find one on near you.

madChristmasmouse · 11/12/2007 19:13

Yippee, a MrsMc post! Love those . I can so see your point about bringing your own birth ball. If they were the right size you may have been better off with a box of antibacterial wipes, but to be honest I think I would be most comfy on my own ball and surely in labour is when it matters most.

What have I left to buy , nursing bras (too early), pushchair (hoping for sales, waiting until after Christmas), changing mat. That's it. Our house is seriously short of space and there are nappies, wipes and maternity pads stuffed on the shelves around my bed. Sex life ?

Beller, I am like you. My GP asked if I had thought about pain relief. I said gas and air at home, if I need anything stronger I will go in, I do not want pethidine at home. 'Oh' she said 'so you are prepared to go in'. Err, yes??? Re the hip pain, I am sticking with the exercise bit, trying to walk every day. It does seem to help with stiffness. Did library-bank-postoffice-cardshop-supermarket today, took about 2 hours (20 mins each way to and from town), which is fine, apart from the standing waiting in the post office.

AngeChica, pmsl at your comment re flatulence. Rest assured your babe also hears your heartbeat and voice , mine is responding quite strongly to daddy's voice, anyone else have that? Does not respond very well to mine, especially when I tell him there is no exit there...

Hope we all have better nights sleep.

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 11/12/2007 21:07

So dissapointed with today!

Went for this growth scan thingie expecting to see LO and I didn't get a scan. All I did was go see some indian bloke who measured me and listened to heartbeat!

On a plus though he's measured me bang on average so MW's have been measuring me when they've measured all through the pregnancy and they shouldn't be able to stop the HB now!

Have had a quick glance but not read it thoroughly.

With everyone on the not sleeping aspect. I find that if I lie on my back I get dizzy and lieing on my side makes my hip numb after about 1 hour so I wake up and have to switch sides BUT switching sides makes me need to pee!! lol.

Mrs MC - Had my bath and was lovely BUT I couldn't get my bump in the water for heaven or high water! lol.

Speak to you all soon. Positive vibes to all! xxx

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 11/12/2007 23:38

It's bloody 11:38 and i've just spent the last hour cleaning the front room! What is wrong with me?! lol

Anyway... I'm going to go to bed now and try to sleep.

jinglebeller · 12/12/2007 08:57

nesting Lucky???? Good luck with the home birth, its looking good!! x

madmouse - I have that today...going to put my tree up..and go up to high street and do post office etc....sat at computer now bouncing on my birthing ball too!

Hope everyone is well xxxxxxxxxxxx

mum2sam · 12/12/2007 09:55

hiya hope you dont mind me joining. Ive been drifting in and out of this thread but not been able to keep up. Im due 12th with my 2nd-hoping for a new years baby so i can have a much needed drink .I can sympathise with the sleepless nights i have to keep changing sides because i keep givng myself dead legs from the amount of weight resting on them! Thinking of purchasing one of those support belts today-anyone else tried one?

popsy76 · 12/12/2007 11:02

Message for MrsMc just wanted to come and find you to say WOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW and a special GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD LUUUUUUUUCKKKKKKK to you lovely lady xxxxxxx

spackcat · 12/12/2007 11:16

hi mum2sam, I'm a new one on here too - Wasn't sure whether to just butt in or not! I thought I was sleeping really well until this week, now I've too started getting the dead leg thing that I remember so fondly from my last pregnancy!. I'm due Jan 28th btw

IsawSusiekissingSantaClaus · 12/12/2007 11:57

Hello - I'm just dropping in to say hello as I've been away for ages. We've got house guests.

Sympathies to those of you in the crap sleep club. I'm a member too!

Hello to newbies!

Waves to all enthusiastically! I will be back!

PBirdy · 12/12/2007 12:16

Hello ladies

I used to post on this site and haven't done for many months but wandering around my flat this morning I suddenly thought of it. They cut us off from chat sites at work which is why I disappeared - I spend too much time in front of a computer all day at work to do it at home at night.

Anyway, just wanted to say that I hope that this finds everyone well.

I had my weekly antenatal check on Monday and the baby's head is engaged so it is all systems go at this end. Is anyone else engaged? I feel really fat and tired a lot because not sleeping well. I guess most people will be the same.

We caved in on our last scan and found out that its a girl! I am very excited, we are keeping it a suprise for family and friends.

PBirdy x

WeAllWantSomeFluffyPudding · 12/12/2007 12:40

Hi all....and hurrah for a great Mrsmc post

Much happier today although that's because following another truly awful night (yes, that whole 1 hour on one side, dead leg/sore hip, need to roll over, oh gosh, need the loo, get up, go to loo, try not to wake DH and DS in the process, generally fail with one or the other, eventually get back into bed, rearrange multiple pillows, knock something over, apologise to DH again, then lie there wide awake and totally unable to get back to sleep for another hour, before waking up with dead leg/sore hip and........!!!!!)...

....oh yes, following another pants night I decided to go back to bed for 2 hours this morning before starting to WFH . Obviously very naughty, bunking off work until 10.30, but felt so much better after getting another 90mins sleep despite roadworks outside!!!

Mum2sam and Spackcat - welcome! The more the merrier And welcome back Pbirdy!!

Sabinar - I so know what you mean about going backwards!!

Beller - deeply of your lovely lunches.

Now I can't believe I still have to keep going until 11th Jan...although I did have a lovely moment yesterday when I realised that was only a month away....hurrah! Decided it was too early to start inviting my work friends out for a leaving lunch, but it was nice to realise that my last day was finally on the horizon . In fact, I only have to get through this week and next, and then there's only 8 working days in January....hurrah!!!!

Am a bit that DH has to go off to NY on Sunday lunchtime for work, not getting back until Weds (19th) which is my 34th birthday....we're both taking the day off work and I know he has something fun planned, but he is going to be a bit grumpy and jetlagged...and I'm going to have to wake up on my own (and get DS up!!!) on my birthday...sob! OK, maybe it isn't that terrible and I should get over it !

Can't remember who raised these things but...

Perineal massage - I didn't do it last time but lots of my NCT friends did. They unanimously agreed afterwards that it made absolutely no difference at all!!! I was delighted to hear it. By the way, I had a really big epesiotomy last time, which wasn't much fun, but really wasn't as terrible as I had feared...so try not to worry about these things too much. Although I will admit that the 'grazing' was more sore than the stitches for the first week or so. So if TMI . But if you want to be prepared, there are some fab donut pillows (also good for those with piles, sadly another frequent by-product of labour!) which make sitting a lot more bearable....

Highchairs - waaaay too early to be worrying about this now, and just another thing to store. But FWIW, we ended up buying the £11 IKEA white plastic one with silver legs (doesn't recline, or do anything fancy, but is very tidy, easy to keep clean etc) as a stop-gap whilst we looked around and it was so brilliant we didn't get anything else. It's also great because with the tray off it can be pushed right up to a table, so we were able get DS used to sitting at the dinner table with the rest of the family, rather than off to one side, from very early on. Everyone we know who has spent large amounts of money on reclining, larger chairs has ended up deciding they are too big/too expensive/fairly unnecessary....

Aaarghhh....another ridiculously long randompost ....I don't know what happens to my brain when I start posting on here....

Hugs to all, Fluffy xxxx

Lulubump · 12/12/2007 13:01

Hi everyone! I've been trying to catch up for the last couple of days, and finally did it!! I was going to post on Friday, but its actually taken me this long to get over the .

Friday was my work xmas lunch, and I went in for the first time in 2 weeks (remember, I was signed off), and what happened? I wore one black shoe and one silver shoe....and didn't notice until almost 11am! .By which time, it was of course too late to do anything about it. I did consider making a run on the shops, but would have taken me ages to waddle around, and find a pair of shoes I actually liked!

I had to go into town for lunch with my team, and even the big boss came along, to a very nice restuarant, and trendy bars afterwards....with my mismatched shoes. And the rest of me was actually very nicely dressed!!

I seriously wanted to die. The worst thing (or best??) was that no-one said a word about it, so neither did I! At least they were the exact same shoe (sometimes if I fall in love with a shoe, I buy it in different colours or should that be ?)

I still have NO IDEA if anyone noticed (of course they did, it was impossible not to), but why didn't anyone say something?? Then I could have just pretended I was being bold and fashion-forward

I told DH and he almost PMSL when I came home and he saw my feet....its all his fault, he gave me a lift to work, surely he should have done a quick check to make sure I was fit to be seen in public, before setting me loose with preg-brain?????

Just goes to show, I can't really see my feet anymore.
