Good afternoon ladies.
I have just got back from a family outing from the hairdressers. I had an appt anyway and took my little boys for a trim. Im so sick of people thinking my lo is a girl simply because he has a few whispy curls around his ears so hes had a short back and sides now and looks so cute. My other ds made a big fuss and didnt want his done until he saw what a fuss was being made of lo and decided he wanted it done after all
Just smiling to myself about you ladies talking about your dignity during labour. Trust me your dignity flies out of the nearest window when your in labour and will do with every check up and smear test and visit to the gynea after. Trust me
Wish I could go swimming but I dont think I could squeeze into my costume. Not expecting to be pregnant again I gave my maternity costume to my cousin
dh maiking dinner now. Yummy 'y'ellow fish with boiled tatoes and mixed veg. Boring but yummy.
Have a good evening all xxx

Hi everyone!!! Had a mad day at work today (and actually did some work! ) so am only just now catching up...

Well done Susie and Lolo on the new thread and catchy title

Naetha - LOL at 'norks' but yes, I agree with you. In fact, I think I lost all my dignity/self-consciousness forever the day I delivered DS with 12 doctors in attendance discussing my epesiotomy (sp?) in great detail!

Curtains - we've just hung new curtains in ds's new room, and have attached the blackout lining (£40 from Homebase) to the curtains (£40 B&Q) without any stitching at all - they're just hanging one behind the other on 2 rows of hooks. Seems to work fine and should make it much easier to wash the curtains on their own anyway. DH did something a bit clever as he hung them and they look fine. No sewing, no sticky tape, no ironing...the only way to go

MrsMc - hi hon Good to see one of your famous posts and well done on the personal content . In answer to your questions (but possibly not in order)

  1. An old slobby t-shirt and some old thin thai cotton trousers, both of which I like but will bin happily if they get ruined. Last time I had plenty of time to remove said trousers prior to the delivery. I'll be wearing cotton knickers and packing about 8 spare pairs for before/during/after (gosh, cannot begin to describe how much I hate the paper ones!), again, will bin quite happily if they get ruined. Finally, I'll have a spare t-shirt and vest top, and some spare cotton trousers in my bag, along with a bikini top on the off chance I get to fulfill my dream of a water birth....
  1. I took stuff last time but didn't light any candles or use any, so probably won't both this time around. Although an oil burner in the corner with something chilled in might be nice......ok, maybe something else for the bag!
  1. We've got the Tomy one which shows temperature and lights up depending on noise volume. It's been great - we've got quite variable temperatures in the house so its good to keep an eye on the nursery, and the lights mean we can put it on silent and still know if the baby is awake/crying/screaming. Mrs B and Naetha: We never used it at night, as the nursery is right next to our bedroom and we had doors open, but it was great for enabling us to watch TV with confidence with the doors closed downstairs, without having to worry we weren't hearing something. Also it's quite useful for knowing exactly when the baby has woken up from a nap, even if you have no intention of running in straightaway

Lucky S & everyone else - swimming is fine as soon as they've had all their shots. AFAICR that's around the 3 month mark, but it might be a scrap later. Some pools (like the one at my local gym) won't take babies below 6 months, it depends on how warm/cold the water is.

Awen - big hugs hon, keep us in the loop. Oh, and keep on breathing !! Been thinking of you lots...might even try to sort out my hospital bag basics sometime soon...!!

I had a checkup with my GP this morning who sent me off for extra blood tests as I'm so knocked out (but then, we're all exhausted, aren't we?!), and told me to take it easier. Apparently I'm to take some time off work if I don't start feeling bouncier.... Anyway, that motivated me to sort out my mat leave dates, so I am now stopping working on Thursday 10th January, which gives me a full 1.5 weeks before my EDD to try to relax, get some sleep, clean and re-redecorate the nursery and fill the freezer with home cooked foods....

I must admit that I'd love to stop sooner, but with xmas in the middle it really isn't that long to go....

OK, I think I've wittered on for long enough, and anyway, its definitely time to leave the office!!!

Hugs and love and kisses and fluffy stuff to all, Fluffy xxx

IsawSusiekissingSantaClaus · 04/12/2007 18:44

Hi all
Amani - did you like the Angelcare?

My DH is doing all the swimming for this household!

Angechica · 04/12/2007 20:10

hi Salem, i think that SP lady is either MrsBiscuit or Amani? But to be honest am getting a bit lost - we need a key of our Mumsnet names. Maybe a lady who doesn't post on here but still reads it?

MrsMcJnr · 04/12/2007 20:10

Great name for the thread

Susiemj ? lol love the name. I have heard of that monitor, my sister had one it doesn?t work in the Amby Nest though so not an option for us.

MerryKatyy1 ? love the name sounds like you can really trust your cats, I?m sure mine would want to snuggle the baby when it isn?t making a noise so do feel that we?ll have to lock them out I was thinking long t-shirt too ? well several ? there is no ensuite in the delivery rooms and I am a bit concerned about the walk to the loo ? thinking I might insist on having a potty though ? what do you think? I spent ¾ of my lunch break in the PO too managed to also order my turkey and other goodies from M&S too though but never got to H&B to buy almond oil for perineal massage LOL the video monitor must be hilarious at your DS?s age I love the way toddlers babble in their beds

Sabinar ? glad you like the Moffi. I washed all the bits to the Amby but it is back in its bag and DH will put it up when I am in hospital also picking up our buggy and car seat on Thursday I was thinking that about a bikini top/tankini in the pool too actually ? why not? that Oils4life does sound interesting, thanks for the link I popped into Neal?s Yard today and they said they could assist if I go in when I have more time but I suspect it will be very expensive!! That course and all your knowledge sounds really interesting I feel like I am running out of time, there were so many things I was going to learn about in pregnancy and now I only have 6 weeks left (maybe less, maybe more!) sounds like you are getting really organized we?ve signed up to do a real nappy trial at the end of Jan to give us a bit of time to adjust before we decide which ones we?re going to go for.

Awen are you ok hon? what an exciting few days!! I had some painful tightening across the bump last night and got a little concerned, they only lasted a couple of hours though but were definitely different from the BH ones I?ve been having. Thanks for your answers I am thinking about the BT150 actually. So glad your DP is back

Thanks Gingeme

Lilyloo ? I?m finding the 6am starts a struggle but there are not many left LOL at the sieve!

Lolo I have MW tomorrow too thanks for your responses

Thanks Bettymamma

Naetha ? the stars sound fun I have some lining for the curtains that I was going to get someone who can to sew in for me but figured at the moment it is dark here 3pm-9am so maybe I don?t need to do that until Spring!

Hey Mixedmama have fun tonight. I?ve decided to buy my own TENS so I can use it again next time?.

LuckySalem ? great deal on the monitor PMSL love the new name

Fluffy I had to do some work today too, what?s that all about!!! Hope you get the water birth this time round hon

Hey MrsB some of the info is a little scary at the classes isn?t it?

Beller ? sorry to hear about the pain, hopefully the contractions are doing good work

AngelenelarbolChica · 04/12/2007 20:45

Hola MrsMc. I find the BH thing really weird too - it feels like I am deliberately cramping up my tummy but I have no control over it, esp at night in bed and it lasts a while. Doesn't hurt tho.

Is there a Christmas nickname change competition??

gingeme · 04/12/2007 21:33

Mrsmcjnr thanks for what babe?

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 04/12/2007 21:53

Im' really in a "I want my baby now" mood!

Don't enjoy being pregnant at all, just want to make sure I can have the birth I want and then i'm happy!!

Have bought my TENS machine should be delivered in time (coming from Hong Kong!! ) Cost me £12! I'm so happy with ebay.
Keeping an eye on ebay for birth pools aswel as most of them seem to be good. Had a quick look for pool hire and seems so expensive that I'm not sure if I want to hire when I can buy for £40.

I love my xmas name!! :-)

sabinar · 04/12/2007 22:01

Lucky - I love your Christmas name too
Sorry to hear you're not having a great time being pregnant. I'm actually surprised at how much I've enjoyed it and find myself thinking that I'm going to miss it and need to make the most of the next five weeks or so and really enjoy it.

MrsMcJnr - were you saying that baby monitors and the AmbyNest aren't compatible? Why is that? Does that mean that I shouldn't bother getting one if I'm using the Moffii?

IsawSusiekissingSantaClaus · 04/12/2007 22:22

Sabinar - I think MrsMc wa talking about the Angelcare, which I've got. I don't think it would be suitable for the nest thingies because it has a movement sensor which needs to lie completely flat at the bottom of the cot. They even say I should get a piece of MDF to put underneath the mattress.

Angelenelarbolchica - are you spanish?!

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 04/12/2007 22:23

Cheers Sabinar!!

Just written my HOME BIRTH birth plan for MW tomorrow.

What is a amby nest and moffi? - (D'UH FACE) lol

Well I'm off to bed now, speak to ya all in the morning!

sabinar · 04/12/2007 22:32

Susie - aaahh, thanks for clarifying that re: the Angelcare. Makes sense

Lucky - the Amby Nest and the Moffii are two different version of hammock style cradles that are, apparently and hopefully, very good at helping LOs sleep well. Also good re: SIDS and great for travel cots.

(They're also a great way to defer making decisions re: cribs for a few months at least!)

angelcake99 · 05/12/2007 03:39

Hi

sorry to interrupt here ladies, i am a bit of a lurker, don't post much
Just wanted to ask whether any of you have decided to or have had the Group strep b test done? I have read in a pregnancy magazine that you have to have it done privately, has anyone done this? And.. is it easy to arrange? Also did your midwife sort it out on your behalf, sorry for all of the questions!

madmouse · 05/12/2007 09:02

Hello all

My, you have been busy when I was away for most of yesterday . Pure hardship , had lunch with some other spouses and tots at my dh's college, then went for hot chocolate with my mate and her nine-week old boy. Was hard to cuddle him though, I had to lean him on the table, everytime I leaned him on my bump my own lo started a boxing match!

R: Labour questions. What to wear, well I will be at home, so a big t-shirt and nothing or maybe a little vest when I get hot (which I will). Seeing that mw will get a close view of the bits below she can see the rest of me too , guess it is different in hozzie where people just walk in and out.

I am not normally into aromatherapy, but (NHS!) mw at antenatal class plugged lavender oil with grapeseed oil for dh to massage me with, so bought that from Holland and Barratt (bogof on at the moment on oils)

Not planning on buying baby monitors for the moment, maybe when we move to the bigger house in May or June. We have been given a tommy tippee pair that does not work in someone else's house. Maybe handy DH can fix it.
Re-baby swimming, mw said that young babies can still swim underwater for ages without breathing!

madmouse · 05/12/2007 09:13

Angelcake99 welcome, sorry that you have not had a response yet, you posted a bit early for most of us .

No one has mentioned me having GBS test so far, and I am planning to keep it that way. I have done my research and I do not believe it is a serious problem. The campaign going round the pregnancy mags mentions 500 sick babies a year, but thousands and thousands of babies are born each year so statistically the risk is very small and I would certainly not want a hospital birth with antibiotics in my arm for this purpose. I still feel birthing at home is much safer even with GBS.

Sorry if that sounds a bit militant or is more than you wanted to hear

LilyLoo · 05/12/2007 09:23

For anyone looking for a birthing pool put an ad on here in the wanted.
I got mine from here for £55 includes standard and extra accessories, is the eco regular so the largest one as well! I thought it was a bargain it's the liners that are so expensive paid £24.95 for one last night! If baby comes on 5th i will be selling it on so anyone due later in month i may be able to help
Poor you Mrs Mc i moan at getting up at 7 don't think i could do 6 !
Hope everyone has good day today LL X

MrsBiscuit · 05/12/2007 09:26

Angechica/LuckyS - SP on Facebook isn't me - I'm CB and the clue is that my RL surname is a bit like my MN name. I haven't got round to adding everyone as friends yet; sorting out FB is one of the things I've got planned for mat leave to keep my busy.

Back to work. Busy doing handover

merrykatyt1 · 05/12/2007 09:38

i saw lots of others MNers changing their names for Christmas so fancied something different but not as imaginative as some - luck think yours might be the best so far

re gbs - don't know much about it tbh...

facebook - yes will get organisedd with it one day...

checked my monitor, it's a Tomy Walkabout one, pretty good i'd say, got it on ebay last time.
(i love ebay too )

mrsmc - don't know about 'trust' so much, as letting them learn about anything new that comes into the house, have a good sniff and investigate, then we have a system of hand clapping when they do something naughty, so they learn to stay away from some things (doesn't always work, lol).

don't know about a potty?? but def the walk to the loo i wouldn't want to do naked in hosp .
last time, i would know i needed to pee, so would say right after next contraction, then heave myself out of the pool (did someone mention 'leaping' ha ha ha), shuffle as fast as poss to the loo, have a wee, have next contraction on the loo, then shuffle back to pool, and aaaaaahhhhh, get in the warm water again, lovely!
a potty might be tricky given the hardship of aiming into a bottle at the mo

right, lots to be doing, so if everyone could stop chatting so i don't feel i have to check every few mins that i'm not falling behind!

merrykatyt1 · 05/12/2007 09:38

lucky - good luck at mw

Amani · 05/12/2007 10:13

Morning all,

Just a quick hello to see how everyone is. Today my nesting insticts are instructing me to clean out my wardrobes and get rid of all the clothes that I haven't worn for the past two years. Am such a horder and my cupboards are so full......

IsawSusiekissingSantaClause - is that Susiemj?

Yes I thought the Angelcare monitor was great. We used the 'ticker' monitoring, which we sometimes forgot to switch off when we picked DD out of the cot and it set the whole alarm system off - which was a bit of pain at 3am in the morning! But on the whole glad we bought it.

SP is me!!!!! Mm told me about it so thought I would join up.

LilyLoo · 05/12/2007 10:19

ooh Amani be careful i remember doing that and then when i could fit back into my clothes i realised i had been a bit too eager and wished i hadn't thrown so much out!
Especially as i'm sure you haven't worn most of your normal stuff in the last few months

IsawSusiekissingSantaClaus · 05/12/2007 10:44

Hi all
Susiemj is 'IsawSusiekissing..'
will do a proper post after the washing up!

gingeme · 05/12/2007 11:41

Good morning ladies.
Those of you having water births do you realy want to get out every time you need a wee? As far as I can remember I did all my wees in the water in fact I dont think I even noticed I was doing them. Didnt do anything else though that required the sieve. That was my home birth but we wont go into that.
Also you ladies buying monitors just out of curiosity are you going to try co sleeping for a little while? I was just so so scared to do this with ds3 and would plop him back into his moses basket once hed dropped off after a feed but with ds4 he was in bed with us for at least 4 weeks and it was so easy just to pull him to my breast he latched on then we both just went back to sleep till next feed. It was so much easier and I slept so much better too. I realise monitors are more for when lo goes into their own room ofcourse.
I am wearing my maternity dungaress today. Realy getting too small but hey I like the smiles I get from strangers when I wear them.
Thats enough of my waffeling now. Ill pop back later. xxx

gingeme · 05/12/2007 11:46

Oh could someone please tell me how I change me name to a Christmas name please?

merrykatyt1 · 05/12/2007 11:55

gingeme - you go to my mumsnet and registration details and just type in another nickname - at least i think that's what i did.

i was too scared to allow co-sleeping too last time, might relax about it this time if it means more sleep...

have hardly any clothes that still fit and a weekend with the in-laws to look forward to..no i shouldn't say that, MIL has already said she will take ds off my hands the whole time so i can rest, woohoo!
may catch up on some sleep at least. but my SIL always looked good during her pgs and i just feel like a big lump!

didn't think about weeing in the water....

susie - that washing up is taking a while, are you secretly doing mine too
