LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 08/12/2007 21:15

Can I ask you ladies a question?
I'm going to see a registrar on Tuesday (Growth Scan) what is it they actually do? Will he be able to say if the baby is too big or small and whether a HB will be possible?

Amani · 08/12/2007 21:47

Madmouse - like that expression about taking bump off. I'd like to do that and give it to my DH to wear for a while!! Actualy he was lovely and has given my bump a ood massage which has made me feel a little better (along with paracetamol).

Sorry LuckySalam - never had a growth scan so not sure what to expect.

ayrshirelolo · 08/12/2007 22:11

Hello girlies!
Welcome Seasidemama! How far north are you? there's at least a couple of us up here in Scotland, where i have to tell you it's been ABSOLUTELY BLARDY FREEZING today... got to teach dd a new word... snow!! very festive but a bit baltic!!
Anyway, folks feeling an air of smugness as after a nightmare day from hell.... we've finally finished the christmas shopping!!!! Only got another 4 days at work too, so feeling reasonably positive tonight, although like madmouse still have 7 and a bit weeks to go and am mighty of those who will meet their babies earlier than that!!
Oh, and if it were only possible to take the bump off for a night .... i've had crappy sciatica this week and have resorted to the odd paracetomol, but don't really like taking anything. Sometimes you just have to though, Thursday night / Friday morning i got a total of 90 minutes sleep after taking a pill at 5am...
Naetha, i've been a little more relaxed this preganancy than last, i've had the odd glass of wine (after the first 12 weeks, and only occasionally), have eated peanut butter because i LOVE it, haven't eated brie or pate (although i want to) but might relax that a bit over Christmas, and have happily eaten mayo, coleslaw etc as well as my mum's homemade marzipan (which i think has raw eggs in it but i don't want to ask in case it means i'm not allowed it!! )I think you're right, it's got to be a common sense thing!
Lucky, i had scan last time 4 weeks after the previous one "to see how the baby's growing"... is that a growth scan? If so it's just like any other, they checked the femur length, head circumference, amount of fluid etc and then estimated baby to weigh about 7.5 lbs.... she was born 3 or 4 weeks later and weighed 6lb2oz!! Good luck anyway, let us know how you go and hope you get the big "yes!" for HB so you can check the pool!!
Nicky, don't know how you're doing it, i'm going to keep going till Thursday and then fall over and i'm not due till 31st Jan! You must be superwoman! I've also got my wedding ring on a chain round my neck, makes my hands look strange though!! (as well as chipolata puffy!!)
Hugs to all, hope you're all having a groovy weekend, lolo xx

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 08/12/2007 23:14

thanks ayrshire - I've started a new thread to ask what happens at growth scans and who the registrar is. I always thought they were the scanner people but they want a urine sample for when I see the registrar?

I'm sitting here listening to xmas songs. It's lovely, I'm having trouble resisting the temptation to make DP get decs out of the attic early. We don't normally put them up till the 13th.

I can't remember who it was that was asking about a birth pool but I got mine from biz-e-kidz. It arrived 2 days later and the pool, a liner, and a hand pump is £82. I then bought the electric pump and a heat cover and it all came to £104. Website is www.biz-e-kids.com Worth looking at!!

Amani · 09/12/2007 11:06

Morning all,

Had very achy bump last night, was up at 3am as it was very painful. Took some paracetamol which helped and then again this morning at 7am. Was 'umming' and ahhing' whether to call the hospital, but DH persuaded me to - didn't want to make a big deal out of something that might have been normal. Anyway all they said continue with the paracetamol and long warm baths and if i get contractions, bleeding or waters breaking then to go.

Even though am feeling mega uncomfortable being a bit of a maniac and trying to get as much stuff done as possible incase this it IT..DH thinks I've lost my mind.

WeAllWantSomeFluffyPudding · 09/12/2007 13:02

Hi everyone ...am sneakily logging on at the weekend as DH has taken DS to the shops to buy fish fingers and potato waffles......we're spoiling him as he seems to have come down with some sort of nasty bug and is being a very quiet croaky version of his usual happy chatty self. And (this is our big news of the weekend!), we moved DS out of the nursery into the 'big' room this morning!

We were up till 1am moving stuff around the house last night, but DH has been really focussed on getting DS into his new room as soon as possible and was still putting the border up at 1am and moving office stuff out whilst I was climbing into bed. Its been a lot of work, but the room looks amazing and DS can't quite believe he's got enough space to have his toys and playhouse in his room with him . He's already quite happy with the idea that the nursery will be for the baby...now we just have to keep it that way

My bump was also incredibly painful last night (do you think they're all cross-posting on 'Bumpsnet' or something whilst we're on here, and discussing us? ) but not at your level Amani! More like Lolo - really bad sciatica (obviously not helped by her shopping and my house re-arranging) coupled with the wiggliest that the bump has been so far, along with a good few hard BH's for good measure....really fun at 3am....not!

Seasidemama - welcome ...! Of course its not too late to join...and you're here just in time for all the fun to really kick off

Nicky - don't overdo it, honey. You and I can grumble at each other about work through the end of Dec and early Jan whilst everyone else is already on mat leave

Oh crikey, can't remember who else I was going to respond to, and now the boys are back so I'd better go and supervise

Hugs to all, speak soon, Fluffy xxx
PS Thanks for all the tights advice!!

WeAllWantSomeFluffyPudding · 09/12/2007 13:08

Oh crikey, pg brain strikes again ...that was it...! Naetha, I've been eating pretty much everything, including brie, but (mostly) only the pasteurised variety. I don't eat shellfish anyway, and I haven't touched sushi, although I've been told that if the fish has been frozen before its used (which most good sushi bars will do anyway), then its fine. But raw eggs, peanuts, wine (in moderation, of course!, liver etc...yes! I'm with everyone else on the 'nut allergies only seem to be on the increase in countries where they are avoided' camp, except of course where there is a family history of these things.

barristermum · 09/12/2007 14:10

Naetha - they've retracted the peanut advice since we all got pregnant and now think there's no risk. Likewise, new guidelines on alcohol see to suggest 1 and a half a night is fine and even that there is little evidence to suggest binge drinking is harmful! It's all a bit mad isn't it? I gave up the brie etc and have found that so so difficult - can't wait for a massive cheeseboard once baby out.
Much sympathy to everyone with painful bumps - mine just ungainly and making me breathless at the moment. Growth scans are just about measuring and another chance to see baby and apparently notoriously unreliable.
Am really tired after a late night dinnerparty last night - which really enjoyed and managed a most unusual 1.30 am bedtime which shows how much fun I must have been having. Trying to prepare for next week's trial before going to take a bunch of godchildren to the Golden Compass - as much a treat for dh and me as them tbh!

madChristmasmouse · 09/12/2007 15:50

Hi all

Fluffy, love the idea of the cross posting on bumpsnet. Like: My BO (Big one) would not lie still for more than ten mins the entire night. Got pretty dizzy, does yours do anything like that?

I will miss the secret life inside though when he is out. This morning my DH curled up behind me and sleepily flung an arm over my bump. It went quiet in there, you could here him think. Next a little poke against the arm so gently DH did not feel it. Arm does not budge, hmm . Silence again, then the movement of a baby lining up both feet, me laughing inside knowing what was going to happen. Sure enough ATTACK with both feet at once. Not too subtle! DH thought it was hilarious, but he missed the funniest part .

LO is very busy at the moment anyway, rather than running out of space he seems to be making more .

For all you gals working tomorrow, rest today, forget the cleaning!!

WeAllWantSomeFluffyPudding · 10/12/2007 09:00

Morning all........had a really bad night - moved DS into his new room, which went really well but DS's cold/cough thing (which has been hanging around for about 3 weeks now) got much worse in the afternoon/evening and after he went to sleep we realised we probably couldn't hear him from his new room to our room with the doors shut. Didn't fancy sleeping with open doors and risking a wandering toddler, so put the baby monitor on. Cue absolutely awful night, but probably not so much to do with the monitor as DS being quite ill...was up with him about 10 times from 2-6, even though he was being really brave, and it was horrible lying in bed listening to him coughing away for an hour at a time

Going to wfh today so I can take him to the doctor later...they'll probably just say paracetamol and sleep, but its been going on for weeks

Hope everyone had nice weekends? Sorry to start Monday on a grumble...I promise to smile later (or maybe tomorrow when I've had some sleep)

xxx

sabinar · 10/12/2007 09:15

morning all. Fluffy, I second the rubbish night of sleep. I've been having a bunch of them lately, but only because of having to go to the bathroom all the time and being completely unable to get into a comfortable position. V frustrating. Feels as though as soon as I finally get a good position and fall asleep my bladder wakes me up! Was saying to DH this morning that I can't actually remember the last time I slept through the night.

strangely, it almost makes me look forward to having a LO to wake me up. At least I'll have someone to hang out with then!

A busy week ahead - lots of meetings and work and things to do. I absolutely have to sort out a birth pool in the next couple of days too.

Hope you're all having a lovely morning and at least some of us got a good sleep last night!

merrykatyt1 · 10/12/2007 10:03

quick hi to all as ds amazingly letting me get away with being in pc - not sure what he's up to mind....

fruitful · 10/12/2007 13:21

Rotten night's sleep here too. One lady induced, in early labour, in lots of (loud) pain but no room on the delivery unit. One lady with hyperemesis throwing up a lot, and on a drip that kept bleeping. One lady crying with pain from something wrong with her leg that the the neuro doc can't figure out. And 2 women with placenta praevia counting the days till they get out of here!

And I'm soooo bored. Think I'm going to scratch the days on the wall above my bed and start crossing them off!

madChristmasmouse · 10/12/2007 13:36

Hi all

Yet another bad night here , sorry for all those also feeling bleary, at least with this being my first I could have a lie in. My back/hips were just killing me all night, I had to switch from side to side all night. My mate (with bad SPD herself ) asked me why I did not take paracetamol. Errr, did not occur to me in the middle of the night.

Did have fun this morning, lots of mums with small kids at my husband's college and we all meet up for coffee on Monday mornings, I get to join in now I am on mat leave. One brought in her newborn who was one week old today and there were lots of messy funny tots. Can't wait for mine .

Right, better get some work done...

Awenamanger · 10/12/2007 14:52

madmouse - aww sorry to here you are so incomfortable at night. The week old newborn sounds so cute. Know what you mean about cant wait to meet LO
LOL @ your post about dp gaming. MIne is a gamer too. Every monday is his night with the boys. Ah well could be worse i guess.

Fruitful - ((hugs)) I dont know how you are managing it. I felt like I was going crazy after 1 night and I managed to swing a side room, even then i couldnt sleep.

Lilyloo - sorry about your sat nav being nicked We got our tree yesterday, ds loved decorating it with us. Cant believe this time next year we will have a nearly 1 year old as well!

Merry Katy1 - sorry to hear you are suffering with SPD. I forget how old your ds is. Would swimming (floating) in pool help with SPD and keep your ds occupied?

Sabinar - know what you mean about the bladder calling. Frustrating as heck as all day on lthe loo too!

Fluffy - poor ds - let us know hwo the drs goes. Any chance of you catching up on some sleep?

Barristermum [fshcok] 1.30 - i couldnt stay up that late 11 is late for me. How was golden compass? Hoping to take ds.

Amani = sounds like something could be happening. Are you ok? Any news

Lucky - I had 2 growth scans with this one. Wee sample was standard and i saw consutlant after.

Ayreshire - well done on the xmas shopping front. I still have a few little bits to get but most of it done and wrapped.

Seasidemama - welcome and hello

Right I had typed a fantastcially long post to everyoine and the computer screen went all black and i lost it

Still here and preg. We thought things were happening on Sat and Sunday again but settled down over night. Am 37 weeks now so if he does come he should be fine. Managed to get mostly xmas organised. Pretty much everything done and sorted including tree up and decorated . Have midwife again tomorrow afternoon.

Hope you are all ok. xx

merrykatyt1 · 10/12/2007 15:14

awen - so glad you have made it to 37 weeks, things sound a tad calmer now, see i told you you would be late....wish i was 37 weeks
ds is 18mo and yes he loves swimming but i don't have the energy to take him really struggling the last day or so, hoping that things will ease up a little and it's just aftereffects of weekend.
have found hot water bottle and tried ball but ball needs more air i think...
(ok, that sounds sorry for myself, i'm only struggling because i am trying to do too much, i am not hospbound , sofabound or even housebound yet).
i will go swimming tomorrow after dropping him off at nursery and do some serious floating about

amazed at some of you staying up so late, 10 is a late one for me nowadays

madmouse - yes i could have taken pills too but didn't think of it maybe put some close to bed tonight. do you think you might have spd too? i have read that the tubigrip actually made some people worse so don't know whether to try without it or not...

fluffy - glad ds moved ok, tho i hope he gets better soon so he can sleep properly.

after a w/e at gparents, ds is all over the shop with naps, took over and hour and a half to persuade him to sleep today [grr], now of course he will wake up late and not want to go to bed... will have to wake him up at some point.

going to try and get dh some pressies from waitrose later - well it's an outing if nothing else

started on cards, need to get the foreign ones out today, will do tree tomorrow i think so ds can see it when he comes home from hosp (having testicles descended on wed got to be done tho) as distraction.
otherwise, have to get something for on brother who is coming to stay, all other family members are having a 'you go out for dinner and so will we (or takeaway) and we'll say that's from you' present this year!
truly lazy i know.

right, more cards to be done

toomanyshoes · 10/12/2007 15:16

Hello everybody, just wanted to say hi and join in the crap nights sleep club! Up 5 times for a wee then got a very dodgy stomach today. Lots of twinges and period like pains but think its just the weight of the baby. Baby still not engaged and bump very high so don't think things will be getting going naturally just yet. 4 more sleeps til sweep and 7 more sleeps til induction. Shall we have a race Awen?! First to drop buys everybody else a mince pie
Hope you're all ok. Off to find something to eat (anybody else starving hungry ALL the time??!! - obviously a greedy baby and nothing to do with me at all)

LETSGOChristmaspartying · 10/12/2007 15:37

Hi to all

Yes I'm struggling with the sleep as well - managed about 2.5 hours last night. Oh well good practice for when little one arrives. I just can't get comfy.

Toomanyshoes - yep I'm starving all the time. My DH is amazed at how much I manage to polish off these days (so am I) - do hope it's for the baby and not just me being a greedy pig!

Hello to everyone else

Amani · 10/12/2007 16:38

Evening everyone!

Well, after an awful weekend of B-H contractions, dodgy stomach, cramps and thinking this might be it....ALL STOPPED.

Feel absolutely fine today and had a brilliant 9 HOURS (!) sleep last night - not that I am complaining but after feeling so crap at the weekend, just wished there was a baby at the end of it.

Toomanyshoes - am sure someone told me in the last few weeks you are supposed to put on 1/2 a pound a week, hence the hunger???

Awen - can I join you in the race to have baby? How you feeling now hun?

Merrykate - glad am not the only one who classifies staying up until 10pm as late. LOl - calssify watching Ugly Betty and America's Next Top Model as late night viewing! (ohhh, Jasleene to win!!)

madChristmasmouse · 10/12/2007 17:38

Amani, shame that it all stopped again, but you did deserve a good night sleep

Awen - thanks for the cheerful post - it was a bit of a down business here today with all those bad nights . Have your labour symptoms now stopped? Still, 37 weeks is reassuring though.

merrykatyt1 I don't think I have SPD as my pains are on the outside rather than the inside, IYSWIM, from somewhere on the outside of my bum down to my legs and probably due to the tossing and turning the outside of my hips too. I also don't think they're bad enough, as they only b*gger me during the night. I hope it is not SPD, my mate was on crutches with it last time, labour made it worse and this time it was back almost from the start. It seems really tough and a bit of backache is lucky in comparison.

As far as hunger is concerned, I eat loads spread over the day, but can't manage much in one sitting. Second helpings are a nono, even if the food is really nice, like the biryani DH cooked last night from a tiny sachet of spices from the Asian shop.

Where is Beller?

Naetha · 10/12/2007 21:07

Hello again all, can I join the crap sleep club again please! Been waking up at about 4:30 am every morning after a crap night's sleep and then been unable to get back to sleep. Even got me and DH to have an early morning on Sunday as we both got up at 6am! Having said that, we've done that a few times if neither of us can sleep

I'm a bit narked atm - my credit card has been temporarily blocked because it's the first time I've used it in nearly a year (even though I rung them up to change my address before using it) so all the stuff I've ordered (pushchair, car-seat etc) is on hold until they've spoken to me. I wouldn't be so bothered, but I even called them before spending on it so this wouldn't happen .

[Ooh, they've just called me back (within 20 minutes of complaining) and unblocked my card - feel bad for whining now!]

Other than that, everything going as normal really - loads of BH at the moment, was getting one or two a day - yesterday I must have had about 30! Also getting niggly period-type pains. Hopefully this could be a good sign, although as half the people on this thread have shown - it could mean anything!

Does anyone have any plans for kick-starting things btw? I've got our family Christmas do this sunday, and I may try in earnest (or as much as you can!) to try and get stuff started the following week (assuming the house and everything else is ready!). I'm planning on a couple of long walks (well these days half a mile is long for me!), doing a bit of "how's your father" with DH (I love that turn of phrase!), guzzling curry and pineapple, and giving clary sage a go I'm guessing that LO won't come along if he's not ready, but given how mahoosive he is, he should be ready to come out by now!!

Right, need to do the last bits of my Xmas shopping now!

ayrshirelolo · 10/12/2007 21:07

Evening all!
Just wanted to join in the general Monday grumble! Yup, sleep is a complete luxury and one that seems to be denied us heavily preganant people! Fluffy, huge sympathy, hope DS is better soon, i know when DD isn't well i lie awake listening to her and it's almost like she knows what night it is that you REALLY need sleep...and those wee sad gurgles are worse than full blown crying! Is he old enough to give him honey yet? Can really help with coughing / sore throat and worth a try if GP is pants!
Awen glad you've got to the magic 37 weeks, that's full term! Hope you're feeling less worried now, but how youdoing physically? still sore?
Merrykate, yeah, 9.30 - 10pm and i'm knackered! It means if i don't get in from work till half 6 it's a short evening, but needs must! Mind you... 3 more days to go at work and counting!! i know you will appreciate the text i got from dh the other day... merely said "got the ninky nonk train!" ... and i was really happy, to think we used to flirt by text and have naughty conversations.....!!
Madmouse, i'm impressed at the biryani eating, i was up at 3am swigging gaviscon and i only ate a very mild stir fry (and a mince pie.... it was the mince pie, wasn't it??
Amani, sounds like it's getting exciting!! Keep us informed, won't you! And much for the 9 hours!
Fruitful, oh love, what a totally crap night!! Puts everyone else's in perspective!! Hope they all keep quiet tonight so you can get some rest.. sending you a big festive hug anyway!! ((((((((HUG))))))))
twomanyshoes, yeah, i'm constantly starving too! going to be the size of a house by the time little one arrives, and then the crash diet starts the next day! i'm getting weary of being a "big" person, but my appetite is humungeous!!
Hello to Sabinbar, Lilyloo, Barristermum, LuckyS, eveyone!!!! Hugs to all...and here's to a better night.... and Fluffy and Madmouse.... LOVE the idea of bumpsnet!!been making me giggle all day! (does your Big one drink cold fizzy stuff? it tickles!!!) lolo xx

AngelenelarbolChica · 10/12/2007 22:07

Hi all - Seems a bit quieter on here ATM? Maybe because more of us now lurking on maternity leave!?

Last week I sussed you could watch 2 hours of ER repeats on Channel 4 in the morning and 2 hours of a different series of ER on More 4 in the afternoons! All featuring the lovely Dr Kovac of course.

Apart from that all I have been doing is cooking & "waddling" (no longer walking) the dog.

I've been going to bed later than DH and no drinks after 9pm and it is really helping reduce the night wees - this morning I slept through to 7am which is a rarity!

sabinar · 11/12/2007 09:24

bbbbrrrrrrr.... it's so cold out today!

I'm just about to head into town for a meeting. Looks as though I'm going to be working up to the 22nd and will be on a break from there - as long as I can get all my work done in time. (A break is a very motivating thought though - I love the idea of getting up this morning and not having any 'work' work to do!

I slept ok last night, albeit with some very strange dreams regarding taking up long distance swimming competitively, taking up the parallel bars (gymnastics) competitively (yes, this is with my rather enormous bump!) and finally, getting a tattoo on said bump against all advice - in that dream I was telling someone that the LO was arriving on Thursday. Let's hope that's not a predictive dream otherwise I'm in big trouble work-wise!

ok. better go pack up my bag and get ready to go. Am going to try to grab a swim on the way home from this meeting. Definitely no more breaststroke kicking though - I could feel that in my pelvis more than I needed to after last time. (v naughty!)

have a great day everyone!
