Hello!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
sabinar · 07/12/2007 16:33

yay Lucky! that was quick!
I say, let's be optimistic and open the box

we're still trying to get a birthpool finalised... we're (hopefully) getting a heated one, but the one we had originally organised has now fallen through, due to pump issues apparently... so trying to get hold of one for a not too ridiculous price with only a few weeks to go... it's proving tricky!

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 07/12/2007 16:36

I've opened the box but not the plastic around pool. We're going to open the pool once MW says "yes"

IsawSusiekissingSantaClaus · 07/12/2007 16:58

Hi all - just popping in.

Sabinar - I don't know if snowsuits are essential. I'm sure warm is fine. BUT there are some cute fleecy snowsuits on sale in Blooming Marvellous. It's not on the website though. I don't know why. I bought one from John Lewis which I adore here. It's got lovely mother of pearl buttons. It's been my one extravagance!

Congrats on the pool, Lucky. It's all getting veyr close now!

Fluffy - love the name. DH sound like a total sweetie!

madChristmasmouse · 07/12/2007 17:11

Just had a nice eBay message, I had bid for a nursing pillow but was outbid. The winner did not pay up, so I got to buy it for my max bid. Chuffed, it looks like in really good condition my best mate recommended it and she knows, my god daughter is 11 months and still breastfeeding.

Sabinar, I think few things are truly essential (nappies? ) and winterbabies were born long before snowsuits. Warm is the only thing that matters, and not too warm at that. But I am an outdoorsy gal so baby will have to be an outdoorsy boy. Paid about £8 for mine on eBay, looks like new, from GAP.

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 07/12/2007 17:39

Sabinar - I've got a snowsuit but I wouldn't say its an essential. No reason why a few layers wouldn't be just as good.

Forgot to say - Had my Antinatal apt last night and the whole way through it they're saying we'll tell you more about this on the ward. (subjects like breast feeding, Anti D injections, Group B Strep?) is it me or should this be being discussed as a whole?

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 07/12/2007 17:40

MM - Nice of the ebayer to contact you.

madChristmasmouse · 07/12/2007 18:10

Lucky, the same ward you are planning not to go to? Or do they mean parentcraft? We had a whole afternoon 'preparation for parenthood' last week discussing all those subjects.

If the former you clearly need to get straight with your mw and tell her you are having a homebirth and you need this info beforehand.

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 07/12/2007 18:17

The ward I'm not going to!! It was a parentcraft class that I was at which they were explaining they'd "explain" or "show" how to do on the ward (Hello, I'm not in the ward!!!!!) lol.

I'm waiting for MW to say right ok. You're having a HB and I'm going to say "right ok, ALL the info that you WERE going to tell me on the ward tell me now" That should take a nice hour or so!! lol

Amani · 07/12/2007 18:31

Evening all,
Hope you all are well.
Lovely X-massy names - can't think of anything that remotely festive that relates to my name so no name change here (unless if anyone can think of one!)

DH gone to his Xmas do at work, so it looks like i am am going to have a long evening to myself (with DD).

Sabinar - depends on how cold it is - we've still got DD old snowsuit which she wore about twice. As we were first time parents with her, we found it really tricky to put her in and take her out of it so we just bought a padded jacket and covered her in a couple layers of blanket when we went out

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 07/12/2007 18:32

Sorry Amani but I can't think of any for you, theres a thread around where if you post on it for a xmas name they'll think of one for you. Good for pregnancy brains!

Amani · 07/12/2007 18:44

cheers - might look that up since I'm going to be having a lonnnnggg evening..

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 07/12/2007 18:47

hi seasidemama - never too late. Welcome

aaah, the weekend!

DH and I are off to a 'Yoga Birth Rehearsal' class today. A friend of mine said that this was the thing that managed to get her through a totally natural labour, so I'm hoping I can pick up some tricks to help us do that too Will let you know if I discover something magic.... (yes, I'm still being ridiculously over optimistic. A chat with my midwife later in the week should sort that out tho!)

We managed to get the Christmas tree decorated last night and hang one set of three curtains that need hanging. Surprisingly productive! I have work I have to do this weekend, so hopefully the productive spurt continues.

Hope you're all relaxing and having a lovely day.

IsawSusiekissingSantaClaus · 08/12/2007 11:59

Morning everyone,

Just wishing you a peaceful Saturday, especially to all of those still working (waves to Nicky6 - welcome home!).

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 08/12/2007 12:09

Seasidemama - Never too late to join in. Tell us about yourself, when's your EDD?

Nicky6 - Have a relaxing weeked, don't stress too much and I hope your case finishes before xmas.

My mum has just rang to say she's ordered us a cot which was the last thing we needed. It's lovely i've seen piccies!!

DP's MP4 player has arrived, it's TINY. I'm just charging it up for him now.

Hope you all have a nice weekend and keep smiling.

madChristmasmouse · 08/12/2007 15:58

Hi all

Welcome Seasidemama - looking forward to hearing more about you!

Nicky6 - take care not to get too exhausted gal, I cannot imagine running a case right now, I am more like, mmm, I have done two hours of work behind computer at home, walked to shops and back, urgently need two hours rest...

Jealous of everyone ahead of me, most of you are so close. I still have 7.5 weeks till due date .

Nasty weather brrh, decided to take the bus to the shops for the Saturday big things instead of bicycle. Then discovered I really should not carry a bag that heavy anymore, felt it pull my ligaments anyone else keeps forgetting they are heavily preggers?

Just put a roast in the oven. DH asked very sweetly if we could eat at 6 today, he has some major battle lined up online. Oh, well, at least it is better than 'I cannot come to eat right now we are in the middle of conquering this that and the other.'

Naetha · 08/12/2007 17:45

lol at the comment on your DH Madmouse - I'd like to say that my DH is the same, but if anything I'm just as bad!

I'm a bit of a gamer, and used to regularly arrange my life around online raids and events! Thankfully things are in slightly better perspective now, although I'm still finding myself playing every week!

Works Xmas do was fun last night - managed to stay up until nearly 2am which I was proud of, although I was knackered by then!

I got my hospital bag all sorted (nearly went into labour trying to lug it down the stairs and into the car - it's HUGE!) although I managed to forget the most important thing - the NOTES! Ah well, never mind, I didn't need any of it anyway

It's so nice to be on maternity leave now - it means that at the weekends me and DH get time to ourselves rather than rushing around trying to get stuff done - this is my job during the week! I'm almost getting good at this housewife lark - cooking meals on time, keeping the house clean. I even cleaned the oven the other day .

Out of curiosity, how good have people been about sticking rigorously to the "what you should/shouldn't eat during pregnancy" guidelines? I've been quite bad for eating brie (probably eaten about a kilo of the stuff in the last month ) and despite having asthma, I've been guzzling peanuts. I reason this with a generous dose of what I like to think is common sense...how's everyone else doing, and if you're doing as "well" as me, what's your excuse?

Right, off to stuff my face with chocolate orange and curry (possibly not in that order). Hope everyone's having a good weekend

Amani · 08/12/2007 18:43

Evening all

Luckysalam - thanks for your offer of a chat last night - feel a bit rude having just left after moaning how boring my evening was going to be. More like action packed as DD decided to water our plants while I was not looking and consequently got herself and our flooring covering in soil. So had to do the whole cleaning, bathing her process afterwards.

Hi Seasidemama! Which seaside are you refering yo?

Naetha - I've given into the temptation of peanut butter a few times, even though my DH has asthma. Plus I've not checked the ingredients on certain products when doing my weekly shopping and later discovered they contained fresh eggs as opposed to pasterised eggs (i.e. coleslaw, mousse). Oh also yesterday, didn't realise that DD had used one of my drinking glasses to water the plants and must have drank a little bit of soil too.

Bump is really 'aching' this evening especially more so when I cough and feels rock hard. Anyone experienced similar pains or know what it is about? Had a warm bath and considering taking paracetamol and it is aching when I walk aswell.

madChristmasmouse · 08/12/2007 19:15

Amani, sounds like Braxton Hix combined with the pain of a heavy bump?? . My bump is getting painful as well in the evenings/when I am tired. Just want to take it off sometimes. LOL at your DD's adventure. Bet it was no fun for you though, having to clear it up?

Naetha, glad you had a great time. Careful with that bag. Mine is very small, emergencies only, and is still under the bed because if I get my home birth it is not handy to have it in the car.

Re: Food, I am a bit cynical about all the rules and only follow some. I started off not eating peanuts as I had asthma for years and DH has all sorts of allergies and eczema, but both DH and I felt that the science bit did not add up, ie in countries where everyone eats peanuts all the time (in some countries kiddies are weaned with some sort of peanut paste) nut allergy is non-existent. Since the House of Commons Select Committee on Health proclaimed the advice 'at best harmless, at worst counterproductive' I am back eating my beloved peanut butter(unsalted, unsweetened, such a pick-me-up ). I have stayed off pate (because of vit A) and Brie (not sure why, Listeria I suppose) but have eaten cured meats. I believe curing is safe, besides as I grew up with an allotment and rinsing carrots straight from the soil under the groundwater pump (the best!) I doubt you can get any more immune to Toxoplasmosis than I am. I do hardboil my eggs as the farm I buy them from does not inject the chickens for Salmonella.

I miss brie the most, especially at the moment, all so attractively presented in the shops. Fresh bread with brie and cranberry sauce, mmmm (drool).

Oh well, sorry for the ramble, of in a minute to watch NCIS double bill while DH fights his battle.

seasidemama · 08/12/2007 19:32

Hello,

Thanks for all the welcomes!

I'm due on the 3rd with my 1st. So far, so bright and easy...nasty hyper-emesis at the beginning but since about 16 weeks and a prescription for Zofran I've been fine and dandy.

I'm hoping for a HB, but that depends on us having completed the house move by then If a HB isn't possible then my main aim is to avoid an epidural - I've a totally disproportionate and illogical reaction to the idea of needles in spines

It's northern seas for us too - brrrrr. Love the space and peace though - and the perpetual reminder that the world really is an incomprehensibly vast, living entity and we are such small, small parts of the whole.

Looking forward to getting to know you all, and sorry for having arrived so late!

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 08/12/2007 20:44

Seasidemama - Welcome and nice to hear about your first. You're due the day after me! It's my first too.

Naetha - I'm eating peanut butter. My logic is that since they brought in this rule there seems to have been an increase in people with asthma and alergies, also neither me or DP have asthma or alergies so seems ok to me. I haven't eaten Pate though even though I REALLY WANT TO. Not sure why.

Amani - Don't worry about not sticking around I wasn't bored or anything .

MM - I get things like that - DP is normally doing the never ending movie quiz on facebook though. AND its normally me hassling him when dinner is going to be (I can't cook)

I've got a really heavy bump today and some periodlike cramps. Nothing that hurts yet though. Also got really sharp pains in my nether regions - Feels like the baby's grown nails and is sticking them in me. Ow!
