Hello!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Amani · 06/12/2007 17:28

Fluffymummy - we have a larger BOOTS store here and seen some maternity tights there. Try MOTHERCARE too?

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 06/12/2007 17:31

FM - sorry I've not seen any maternity tights anywhere. What about normal tights in a BIG size?

I've just put my dates into google countdown and i've only got 26 days left till due day

fluffymummy · 06/12/2007 17:53

Normal ones in a big size only sort-of work. I was hoping for some nice funky ones which went all the way above my bump and actually stayed there, rather than forming an unsightly ridge as they slowly rolled down and ended up just above my knicker line !!

None in any of the Boots stores near me (ooh, I'd love a really massive Boots store for a pre-baby shopping expedition ) and can't face Mothercare as will end up buying too much baby stuff ...oh, and its in a shopping centre that is now channelling xmas and associated crowds and traffic, so best avoided!

D&mn, was hoping this would be easy ...!!

Lulubump · 06/12/2007 18:06

Fluffymummy - you've probably already tried, but what about hold-ups (or rather the kind that stay up by themselves at mid thigh without needing suspenders).

Thanks for the sympathy Amani and Madmouse!

merrykatyt1 · 06/12/2007 18:20

not meant to be on here at the so best be quick...m&s do great ones, ok not funky but plain ones that reall hold the bump in place. i ordered some online for a posh do a while back, under 10 pounds but then i paid extra for urgent delivery.
they were skin/plain coloured medium thickness but think they did others just can#t remember all the details. look at their website.

sabinar · 06/12/2007 18:32

hey fluffymummy - I got a pair of maternity tights online. Can't remember where from... perhaps try scouting some of the maternity clothes sites and see if you can find any there?

to be honest, I haven't found them much better than normal tights in a larger size.

LETSGOChristmaspartying · 06/12/2007 18:53

Hi Fluffy

I did read your thread and then promptly forgot! I know they sell tights in Blooming Marvelous and I think they sell them in H & M. Also in Next but only by mail order I think. Not seen any funky ones though but just thick black.

Hope that helps

LETSGOChristmaspartying · 06/12/2007 18:56

Oh yes and www.fromheretomaternity.co.uk

fruitful · 06/12/2007 19:51

MrsMcJ - actually I still don't know exactly when it will be. I just know that 20/12 is the last possible date, if things don't kick off before. It is odd though! I'm waking up every morning thinking "I wonder if it might happen today" like you do at 40 weeks not 32.

I'm starting to feel sad about all the Christmas stuff I'm missing; its my church's christmas service this weekend with the kids all dressed up. And there is dd's first school play, and ds's playgroup "songs & mince pies" morning. Dh is taking them to get the Christmas tree on Saturday (taking advantage of my absence to buy a huuuuuge one!). And I can't go on the local Santa train ride. Aaaagh. Whinge. The small plus is that tomorrow there is a carol service in the hospital chapel done by the Kings College (Cambridge) Choristers, no less. So that will be a treat.

Barristermum - ask your hosp if they have birth balls - there are loads here (ds plays football with them ).

Lulubump - sorry about the test, thats a PITA

They seem to offer pethidine here when women are almost in established labour but not quite, and its all taking ages. And the actual birth is hours if not days away, pain relief is needed, buts its too soon for epidurals. So perhaps it is something to consider if you find yourself having a long and awful early labour, and being "out of it" seems appealing!

Tights - www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk (with 10% Mumsnet discount, and free p&P). They only do boring ones though.

lilyloo · 06/12/2007 19:53

Evening all just pooping in to say hi and so i don't get too lost when i at work tom, you are so hard to catch up with!
Glad to see no major news and everyone ticking along ok let's hope that continues !
Just a quick mention for lulu sorry hun might be best to leave it for a while but i swear it is down to your examinor!
Also massive sympathy MrsMc butgood to see you booked your treats for the 22nd you can only do what you can, suppose i am quite lucky as they sort of winding down at school now!
Sorry no help with mat tights.
I still got no stretch marks and am very aware how lucky i am must be down to good skin as i never used anything for all 3 pg's!
Can't remember who asked r/e pethidine i never had it but my sister did. It made baby very sleepy and i also felt it made her sleepy and a bit disinterested in the baby for a few hours, so i don't like and would rather have an epidural i think!

IsawSusiekissingSantaClaus · 06/12/2007 20:51

Sorry about driving test.

Just a quick one to say MrsMc - didn't mean to sound bossy earlier. Not sure if I did. I'm full of admiration for those still working.

ayrshirelolo · 06/12/2007 21:14

Hello!
Juat a quick one, as i'm too tired to catch up with everyone.... sorry! Hugs to all, though.... We move offices this weekend, so i've had to pack up my desk, filing cabinet etc tonight whilst trying to run a Child Protection investigation and get the PF (Scotland's equivalent of the DPP) to understand that although they've cited me for a High Court case that starts in February, i'll be on maternity leave and won't be able to go.... and won't appreciate them issuing a warrant for my arrest either! Yup, defo suffering from acute GG!!!!!!!
Maternity tights, got boring barely black and black ones from Tesco, £4 for 2 pairs. Not very glam but comfy and do the job!
THANK YOU to everyone giving me good advice about not worrying and turning baby....I promise to clean my skirting boards after i stop work, but not before, too tired! Dh thinks it's hilarious though that i've taken to watching telly on all 4s and with bean bag, birthing ball etc!
Lulu, you WILL pass soon, but babe i'm so impressed you're even trying just now!
Talking of driving, intend to keep doing it till last possible minute as long as i'm comfy, i think official advise is just that seatbelt should go under the bump but that's about it?
Anyway, away to rock on hands and knees for a bit (what an image!) and then go to sleeeeeeeeeeep............ night night!! lolo xx

AngelenelarbolChica · 06/12/2007 21:15

I've only been driving 3 years Lulu, in my 20s I failed my test a few times and went back to it after a good long break and passed right away. Also a friend who was emigrating sold me her car really cheap and I had an incentive, prior to that I had lived in London / Spain and never needed a car....

Just been to pub for nice tea. 35 today, sounds depressingly ancient, as a friend pointed out that's now closer to 50 than 20!

should I be "angel encima del arbol" MrsMc?

Really struggling on the trouser front now, I spend most of my time sitting around the house trouserless!

A lot of my maternity trousers were borrowed and I've scuffed the bottoms of them because they just fall down all the time.

spud01 · 06/12/2007 22:41

Hello everyone, sorry i have not posted in ages even though i have logged on to read how everyone has been doing.

Ive had both epidural and pethidine. I had epidural when i had my daughter, it didnt work very well for me + i was left with a bruised spine afterwards which took a while to heal. Personally i vowed never to have it again even though i do know people who it worked perfectly for and didnt feel a thing. I had pethidine when i had my son. It did ease pain for me but also made me feel really sleepy. As for my son, he did need help to start him breathing when he was born, but i dont no if that was more to do with the fact he was 6 weeks premature rather than due to the pethidine. Personally if i find i cant cope i would go with the pethidine again.

Anyway hopefully i will find more time from now on to join in.

Hope everyone ok x

beller · 07/12/2007 08:48

Awenamanger · 07/12/2007 10:39

MrsMcJnr [[http://www.i-am-pregnant.com/pregnancy/calendar/pregnancy.php here}} is link for you. J or K lol. Work sounds like they are being a bit unreasonable about the amount of meetings. Is there anyway of you starting mat leave early? Lo here is 3/5ths too although as mine is 2nd they dont normally engage till labour.
Mums can be soo untactful cant they? I think they lose the ability to engage their brains before opening their mouths.

Naetha - love the facebook profile I remember going to the bike rallies., not likely to be something i am doing again tho. Would like to go to some of the festivals tho. I was told by a mum at ds's school i shouldnt be driving anymore either (she doesnt know that i have been having contractoins pblush]. Thing is if i couldnt cope i wouldnt drive, but i have been managing.

Triplets&twins (love the xmas name) not long to go at all really! So exciting

Susie - I dont think you are being too optimistic on 6 months. My dp is really wanting lo in for at least a year as well, I think that is what is making it easier as I dont feel like he will be annoyed by having baby in the room.

Had a really rough night last night. Had girls over for curry, couldnt eat much and spent most of the nigth up and down, really heavy period like cramps. Feel sick and just yuck. Really heavy dragging feeling. Not sure if a sign of things going to happen or not as it had settled for a bit. Ds1 off to his dads for the weekend so if it did all happen this weekend would be good as less disruption for ds1. Not sure wheterh to curl up on sofa or pace around...

Awenamanger · 07/12/2007 10:48

opps misssed the link and rest of post

MrsMcJnr - here

Barristermum - I had g&a, pethidine & epidural. Not wanting epi again as meant catheter and couldnt move feel legs and didnt like it. I needed it tho for section. Growth scan sounds very exiting Re pethidine, would comnsider it again as long as not too close to delivery.

Lulubump - about your driving test. Examiner sounds like a completet wanker though. He sounds like he has power issues.. prob why he is an ex-policeman. Fab baby engaged. A/n should be weekly from now just to keep eye on bp etc.. I would re-check with mw.

WeAllWantSomeFluffyPudding · 07/12/2007 11:06

Hi everyone, just thought I'd drop in and show off my xmas name ......

Actually feeling pretty awful today, quite sick-y and achey so have informed boss that am going back to bed rather than WFH and am going to curl up somewhere.

Catch all of you soon, thanks for the tights advice, will try and sort some out either on-line or in RL this afternoon, soon as I stop feeling like I'm going to throw up over my keyboard.... Sorry if TMI!

If I don't post before, hoep you all have lovely weekends, big hugs to all (and Awen and Fruitful, try to keep going and don't let it all get you down) xxx

toomanyshoes · 07/12/2007 13:12

Hello, just a quickie to say that just got back from hospital and consultant is going to sweep me next Friday and book me for induction for 3 days later in case it doesn't work so will definitely have baby by xmas am v excited but also bit nervous at prospect of induction (much higher risk of section, less mobility etc)

Naetha, think it was you who asked why I was being induced? It's becuase I have gestational diabetes so risk of a large baby/shoulder distocia etc (although scan shows normal size at mo, 87th centile or something so not huge considering I am 5'10" and DH taller than me) Also, past 40 weeks there is higher risk of still birth etc. It seems as though once past 37 weeks the baby is safer out than in!

On the pain releief question I had gas and air, pethidine and an epidural last time! Not bad going as was only in established labour for just over 3 hours! I had the pethidine as midwife assumed was still only 3/4 cms and contractions v v strong (didn't think i'd cope with them if they got stronger, lasted hours etc). Was examined soon after and was nearly fully dilated so prob not best time to have it and if I knew that was as bad as it would get wouldn't have bothered as was coping ok.. I liked it though and felt it disconnected me from the pain (could still feel it but didn't really care!) and despite having it so near to delivery DD was not sleepy, needed no help breathing and I breastfed within 15 mins of delivery.
I had epidural at fully dilated (had last minute freak out as was so shocked at speed of labour that decided I wasn't pushing without it!) couln't believe they agreed but meant I could have a little rest while DD's head came down. Was v low dose and wore off completely by pushing stage 1 hour later. Had shower and walking about hour and a half after delivery and no ill effects. Happy to have whatever this time on the basis that I liked all the drugs last time (sign of a mis-spent youth possibly?!!) and nobody gives you a medal for doing it without

Off for some lunch now, could eat a horse but will stick to tedious diabetes friendly sandwich!

ps Beller, I drove til day before I gave birth last time and will do same again this time. I love driving, only time I can move at speed nowadays!

scorpio1 · 07/12/2007 13:13

Awen did you know im having a dd after all those boys?

toomanyshoes · 07/12/2007 13:19

Fluffy, didn't see your message, hope you feel better - bed a v good idea!
For tights try www.mytights.com and www.tightsplease.co.uk both have maternity tights and are v reliable on delivery etc.

barristermum · 07/12/2007 16:19

Hi fluffy - on tights don't do mothercare - I have tried those and they were strnge - had like a triangle seam that didn't line up in any obvious way and stretched over bump no better than any ordinary large tights. Next do have mat tights but I tried to order and it was a 5-6 week waiting list a fortnight ago.

Thanks for all the advice on the pethidine etc guys - this thread really comes into its own at time like that.

Lulu - so sorry about test - horrid examiner. I failed 1st time as I was put off by extremely fat examiner sitting twisted in his seat so every time I went into 1st gear the stick and therefore my hand stroked his leg - urgggh.

Have just had a spree in mamas and papas - bought snowsuit, bedding and mattress for cot and little grow bag which I love!

have lovely weekends all. xx

sabinar · 07/12/2007 16:27

quick question - how essential is a snowsuit? should I definitely get one or can I just make do with layers of clothing and some blankets?

what do you think?

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 07/12/2007 16:30

Evening all,

My birth pool arrived today!! So excited! Getting annoyed at DP cos I wanted to have a look in the box and he starts with "don't open it incase they won't let you have a HB and have to send it back again" - I just wanted to slap him!

Hugs and kisses to all!

madChristmasmouse · 07/12/2007 16:32

Hi all

Applause for Fluffy and her fetching Christmas name

Just back from garage with poor dh. Leaving college at the end of term he managed to damage the rear bumper of the car when he had difficulties unparking...silly boy, he should have gone back in to ask whoever's car was blocking him to move. But what is done is done and I am just glad it was no accident with people getting hurt etc.

He felt so bad, he was planning to come home and tell me that he had booked 'our' room in our fave B&B in the Forest of Dean for a few days next week, now he had good and bad news. It got him all depressed poor thing he tends to be a bit hard on himself. Yes, he was daft and replacing the bumper is expensive but these things happen. The garage was nice and they will send a written quote, they seem to be a reliable joint. I am really looking forward to a few days away next week. I don't like being away from home at the moment, as I am nesting good and proper, but this place is like home and not to far away. And hopefully we will manage some nice walks.
