Hello everyone. Will you come and join me?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Kitsilano · 20/11/2007 16:58

Hello all - just to let you know I had my baby by VBAC at home last night at 37+4. A little girl (7lb11oz). Midwife came for routine antenatal and I asked her to examine me as I had been having annoying Braxton Hicks on and off all week. She looked and I was 5cm and head well down and visible. All kicked off from there and baby was born 4 hours later without even gas and air as she couldn't get the cannister attached (I was not amused by this at the time!) I was in bed with a glass of champagne 20 minutes later. Small tear inside but no stitches needed.

I feel so lucky to have had this birth this time after long labour, attempted ventouse and emergency section with my DD1 and am on cloud nine (not doing it again though!)

Good luck to all!

mellymooks · 20/11/2007 17:04

Fantastic news congrats!! Hope mine goes as smoothly!

Beanstermummy · 20/11/2007 17:05

Kitsilano - great news - and it all sounds so lovely as well - after previous experience. When was your due date?

Big Congrats - but you don't mention names?

mixedmama · 20/11/2007 17:07

Congrats Kitslano...... number 4 baby. So glad you got the experience you were hoping for.

becklebigbump · 20/11/2007 17:11

Kitsilano! Wow , congratulations on your new LO! Glad you had such a nice birth too - well done!

Clairey, you may be of my boobs now but trust me, you won't be of what they look like once I finish BF!!!

Skid, that's a lovely boy's name, I shouldn't worry about it being similar to your bro's name, he would probably be very chuffed for starters! We nearly gave DS2 my brother's name but then realised how terrible it sounded with our surname (think 2 one-syllable names both starting with B ).

Amani, Daniyal and Hannah are both really lovely names. I would love Hannah for a girl but my Neice's LO is called that, she said we could use the name but no other child could be Hannah IYKWIM?

Loucee, DS1 got a pressie from DS2 when he was born, he was 2.5 at the time and although he probably didn't understand too much about it I like to think it made his first encounter with his new brother a positive one. We got him one of those magnetic drawing boards, wrapped it up and put it in the crib in the hospital. Won't be getting boys a pressie this time, they are old enough to know a baby can't buy pressies and also with DD being 2 days after Christmas, I think they will be all presented out!

I am loving these bump pics! Must sort out how to work my camera timer (or get DH to take a pic). NBG, your bump looks like mine in size and shape (I am currently 34+5) - very large and all out front!

MM, rant away, it always makes me cross too when someone starts a thread and others come along and hijack it without even answering the OP!

Mellymooks, Wales?! Am impressed! Daftest thing I have done this pg is do a load of washing without putting any washing powder in - only discovered it when I sniffed it before hanging it out (loving the smell of washing powder and clean, wet washing, mmm).

Beanstermummy, your DH sounds like mine! He doesn't want to touch the nursery until baby is here but that doesn't explain why he hasn't put the downstairs toilet back in (took out 2.5 years ago) yet or put up a new bannister!

becklebigbump · 20/11/2007 17:17

Anyway, just got back from the Docs and it turns out that I do have a hernia. Fab.

I have been prescribed this thing to try and hold it in place which I have to put on each morning whilst lying down (will be a nice addition to my already gorgeous support stockings ensemble!). He says he's not sure if it will work though as he's not had to fit one on a pg woman before!

The good news is that it shouldn't affect the birth other than that it may pop out a bit more while I am pushing (it has got a lot bigger just in the last week).

The bad news is that he has had to refer me to a consultant surgeon. He said they may want to see me before LO is born but will prob not try and fix it until afterwards - sort of see if it goes away by itself.

All good fun! Lovely Doc though, he is the one who used to do the MW appts so he asked if I would like to hear baby's heart! He had a listen and a squidge (baby properly head down today although not engaged) and then thanked me for letting him feel it! He said he really misses doing the MW appts - I was all tearful when he said that!

Anyway - essay over!

loucee · 20/11/2007 17:26

Congratulations Kitsilano, you do sound on cloud 9 and I'm really pleased you got to have a VBAC. Love reading positive birth stories like yours.

Thanks for your comments on what you're all doing re pressies from new baby to siblings.

Beckle - sorry if I'm being dumb but am I right in thinking your hernia is where a heomoroid would be?

fifisworld · 20/11/2007 17:26

Just a quick post to let you know ive got my date for c/s, 13th Dec
Will post tomorrow and tell you all about the arse of a consulatant i saw

mixedmama · 20/11/2007 17:28

Ahhhh beckle at least there are some nice health professionals out there.

Amani · 20/11/2007 18:15

Congratulaions Kisilano. Hope you are resting!

Oh dear - not another dubious consultant fifi.

Anyone else worried about the child benefit recors that are 'lost'?

mixedmama · 20/11/2007 18:35

whats this about child benefit???

Housemum · 20/11/2007 18:38

Amani - I just heard that one on the way home - I just hope they have been accidentally destroyed, not got outside the building.

(For anyone who doesn't know, the details of every person in Britain receiving Child Benefit - name/address/NI number/bank account details/childrens' names - were downloaded by some junior in HMRC to be sent by internal post to the National Audit Office but they never arrived - banks are on alert to the missing info to up their security and be aware if people have only those details, and as far as is known the info has not been found yet nor has it been used for any fraud purposes)

mixedmama · 20/11/2007 18:39

OMG.... that is awful. Am worried about that then yes.

Housemum · 20/11/2007 18:40

Kitsilano - congratulations! Wow, 5cm with just "annoying" Braxton Hicks?

I'm hoping this baby is listening to me - I've told it that it is to arrive between 36 and 38 weeks, but not on the day of DD2's school play, labour to start in early hours of morning, with it still being OK for DH to take the girls to school, then off to hospital for baby to arrive before hometime!

Yeah, some chance....

loucee · 20/11/2007 19:08

Bloomin heck I hadn't heard about the child benefit either. That's really worrying.

Fifi - good news that you have the cs date, you're lucky you know the exact date and can plan ahead.

I really need some help, I can't stop eating rubbish!

Beanstermummy · 20/11/2007 20:03

Wow - DH has just put up two shelves in nursery !!!

Housemum - with you on the timing bit - last time it was all so so easy without childcare to worry about - and sods law said my waters broke at 7am Sat morning all very civilised and all that. I just know Button will NOT be playing quite as nice this time and no doubt will be in the early hours so have to call emergency babysitter over to look after DD and then stress about it all - and it'll be raining and windy etc etc and just generally NOT put me in a good frame of mind.

There I go, being all positive again !

Curlygirly · 20/11/2007 20:20

kitsilano - congratulations to you.

insywinsyspider · 20/11/2007 20:21

fifi - great news about date, something to aim for

congrats kitsilano - hoping for a hb like yours! do you have a name?

current advice about benefit stuff is not to worry they say if you have any internet passwords with your childrens names or dob then change them but no need to change bank details... its worrying they can do this with all our info tho

Kitsilano · 20/11/2007 20:23

thanks all! her name is Lana (no middle name chosen yet). my due date was 6/12

Wishing you all fab births and healthy babies
Kitsilano

insywinsyspider · 20/11/2007 20:29

Lana is a lovely name - congratulations again! its exciting we're all getting so close

becklebigbump · 20/11/2007 21:30

Loucee, you are not being dumb! My hernia is not where heomoroid would be, it is on the front of my bump on the right of my pubic bone. It has been swollen there for months and I noticed it was lump-like about 2 months ago but as the MW's weren't bothered I did nothing about it. It has got a lot bigger in the last week or so though so mentioned it to the nice MW I saw last week and she said to get it looked at.

MM, it was really lovely to see a health professional who cares. He was the Doc who dealt with my m/c last year and he phoned me himself when the test results came in. He's a lovely doctor and a lovely man.

OMG about the child benefit thing! Quite a scary thing that all our details are 'out there' for anyone to access.

Kitsilano, Lana is a lovely name!

thingamajig · 21/11/2007 00:44

Melly, as soon as I read that you accidentally drove to Wales I wondered if you had done the M4 M5 thing from Bristol. I have done this so many times without even the excuse of being preg, there is a service station to turn round at so Ive never actually got all the way over the bridge to Wales though.
Kitsilano, Well done and all the best to you and Lana, gorgeous name. I hope we all have births that straightforward.
Ive got yet another scan tomorrow, hopefully my last. And wondering how to subtly sneak past my consultant that my midwife and I are preparing for a home birth!!

buzzybee · 21/11/2007 05:59

fifi do tell about the consultant.

Congrats kitsilano that's so great. A girl finally!!

Today LO has been pushing on bladder like nothing on earth, stop it now! Have another scan at hospital tomorrow and am really going to push consultant to see if he can tell how well engaged she is. Surely all this pressure must mean something! I know she's baby no. 2 and I'm only 36 weeks but still...

Morning all, Ahh just looked through due dates buzzy has posted it really is getting so close now, everyday I find myself thinking, will it be today please let it be today!! I feel so ready and just so excited.

Went to our local fire station last night to get our car seat checked - they are so helpful and it's really reassuring to know we've fitted it right and that it's all secure.
Hard to believe there will soon be a little person in it!!!
