rg, compressions are basically squeezing the breast when callum stops sucking, the milk flows and he starts to drink again.

RGPargy · 21/11/2007 17:28

Ah ok, thanx for that Sparkly.

I know RGP - Im just a grumpy moo! Have had a sleep but to be honest dont feel any better for it, think I just need to go back to bed and stay there until this baby arrives! Will be a lot less ear ache for everyone else!

So much for DH's idea of fish for tea tonight, after being so bloomin grumpy, he has been to Morrisons and bought me a pizza, southern fried chicken bits and potato wedges! Pure comfort food for me!

Right, must be away to phone my dad - he phoned while i was asleep apparently. Not spoken to him all day which is very unlike me!

sam86 · 21/11/2007 18:11

hiya everyone! im new to this forum so hope you dont mind me jumpin in at the last minute but ive been goin on the tesco baby site and bit fed up that nobody due this month really talks! (apart from one who was due a week after me but hasnt been on for a few days s may have beaten me to it!!)

im due on the 23rd this fri but have had no signs at all! havent even had a braxton hick! i started feeling little pains today, similar to period pain but only for a few hours.

just wanted to ask- the midwife put me as 3/5 engaged last visit (a week n a half ago) but i can still feel babys bum in my ribs (if anything its got worse today!) and i was expecting this to stop once she was engaged? making me worried that maybe shes breech and they havent noticed or shes turned!! shes been head down for a long time but am still worried!(though the midwife said she wasnt engaged until the last visit). is this normal??!

and im the same! my other half is out working loads so he can have some time off when she arrives (hes self employed so gotta get bills out the way now for most of next month too argh!!)and im sittin at home doin nothing but just cant be bothered to tidy or cook or anything lately!!! x

RGPargy · 21/11/2007 18:34

Jarm - I'm a grumpy pants too so dont worry about it. Your dinner, on the other hand, sounds LOVELY!! I'm doing burgers and chips tonight.

Sam - hello and welcome! Is this your first baby? If the midwife has said baby is engaged, i'm sure it's all fine and dandy. Your baby could be long bodied perhaps, hence you feeling her bum in your ribs, or maybe she's unengaged, which can happen too.

What sort of birth are you planning and i take it that you know you're having a girl?

Where abouts in the world are you?

Sorry for the questions!!

Hello, I am new to this thread too..... only just found it. Been around in the pg section. I am due 26th, but had ecv 10 days ago , sucsess, so now doc says i will be late because baby has to re-engage, which it hasn't yet.
Although it feels like it has, as my bladder control in non-exsistant.... LOL
Having huge trouble sleeping, awake most of the night just thinking.... but i don't know what about, then DH snorring and can't get back off..... any idea's??
( First baby, don't know sex, m/c the twin of this one at 6 weeks, & m/c twins last year, 3 years at infertilitly clinic before that.... hoping for a totally natural water birth, as allergic to anesthetic !! got the tens ready)

Rachee · 21/11/2007 18:54

p.s age 35, 36 very soon. Live Newton Abbot, Devon. DH + cat+ toy poodle...Still working give up this sat.!! Yippie ( self employed, hence late leave date.... )only put on a stone, so very pleased with myself, and i intend to BFeed.

sarahloumadam · 21/11/2007 18:54

Hi all
Sam - my baby is head down and engaged but I can still feel his bum against my ribs; just the way he is laid (either that or he is a loooonnng baby!).

RG - every time you mention donuts I keep meaning to go and get some and then keep forgetting - grrrrr! They have to have jam in the middle though and I'm so clumsy at the mo that I'll probably just get it all over my bump and lovely new carpets! I haven't really had the urge to do much nesting either ( and stop beating yourself up about DH at work etc - you will be busy soon enough; you need your rest now!) but I have got a basket of nappies etc on each floor - your idea Fiona?

Sorry you in so much pain JARM . It sucks. I've had lots of period type pains today and it has worn me out so I cannot imagine how you must be feeling. Feet up and kettle on. Your DH sounds lovely.

Well my midwife seems determined to send me to hospital, more protein in my wee, no other symptoms or problems but she phoned the day unit all the same and they said "leave her be!". Ha! She is on hols next week thank the lord, she is lovely but a bit overly-cautious I feel. Another midwife coming tomorrow to check my BP etc - overkill!

Sparkly - let us know how it goes with the compressing.

And congrats Lizzie!

StrangeTown · 21/11/2007 18:55

JARM - what actually happens when you have a sweep? I am booked in for one week tomorrow if no action - just wanted to know what to expect?

Hope you have a better night tonight.

We are still waiting for lots of updates looking at the list. It's very exciting when each one comes in.

RG - you still seem nice and upbeat - how do you do it

sarahloumadam · 21/11/2007 18:56

And hello Rachee

JARM · 21/11/2007 19:19

Strangetown - basically it is an internal examination where they feel the cervix, the positioning of it and whether you have started to dilate.

They will basically "rummage" to try and get things started, so I have ordered DH to do me a DIY one tonight!

They are uncomfortable, and you will probably be sore for a few hours afterwards, may even have a little blood loss, but its all totally normal.

Labour quite often happens within 24hrs of a sweep.

Well I have officially eaten shite all day, feel really crappy and so close to tears its scary..... oh and i feel sick as a dog because of all the crap ive eaten.

StrangeTown · 21/11/2007 19:29

Thanks JARM. So usually OK to drive yourself to and from app alone. Obviously hoping it won't come to that, but I think I know in my heart of hearts that it will. It is my first and wasn't engaged at all on Mon even though I was 39 weeks. They are telling me it is big too, but I am not reading too much into this as it seems to be pretty inaccurate from what other people have said.

JARM · 21/11/2007 19:37

absolutely fine to drive yourself my dear, obviously if you can have someone with you it may make it a little less scary, but there is no medical reason for there to be someone there.

I really hope all goes well for you. I just wish my midwives were so "accomodating"!

capecodder · 21/11/2007 19:39

Hi Sam86

I am due on Friday as well and also haven't been having many signs. Brief BH's but none seem to last longer than 20 minutes or so. Little niggles here and there but no build up of anything exciting.

I really don't have the feeling that she's anywhere near ready to come out but am hoping that I am wrong.

Rachee - blimey, thanx for all the answers! You saved me having to ask all the questions. Sorry you are also having trouble sleeping. I think it's the general thing when you're just about to pop isn't it. I'm going to try and remember to have a hot choc before bed tonight to stop me waking up all the time in anticipation of being in labour lol. I've no idea how to stop your DH from snoring tho! Sorry! Are you having a home water birth or in a MWLU/hospital? I've got the pool up and ready to go now in my front room so am just waiting for LO to show her face. Cant believe you're still working - self employed or not! Am very about putting on only 1 stone. I've put on 2 and was very proud of that!

Sarah - Get yourself out to the shops and get donuts!!! After stuffing my face with four of them i can honestly say that were lovely! I have no guilt tho because other than two bits of toast for breakie, it was all i'd eaten all day til dinner.

I cant help feeling guilty for not doing anything during the day tho. I'm so paranoid that i should be working that sometimes i even go to look for a job and then think "d'oh! i've got a job and i'm SUPPOSED to be off work!!" I think that as long as i start to get into a routine with LO when she's here, i'll wonder more and more how on earth i used to fit in working full time.

Glad the hospital told your mw to eff off! It honestly doesn't help to have over cautious people like that putting the frighteners on you coz it just stresses you out, which will raise your BP etc etc. At least the hospital had their heads screwed on the right way (for a change!).

Strange - good luck with the sweep tomoz. Let us know how it goes coz i'm booked in for one next Friday so i'll be interested to know if yours works or not. Oh and i have no idea how i stay so upbeat! I think it's coz MN is practically the only "adult" interaction i'm having at the mo so i feel a bit like an excitable puppy when someone has posted (plus DP and I are complete fruitcakes together, which always helps). Christ, i'm such a bloody saddo!

I should imagine it'd be ok to drive after a sweep. That's what i plan to do anyway!

Jarm - PMSL @ rummage!! I spose that's one good way of describing it!

Hello people we haven't heard from in while. Good to see you and Welcome Rachee and Sam. It's good have you along.

Jarm poor old you hugs

Just wanted to check in and say hi. I'm feeling VERY sick and abdominally weird. Lo had been pretty quiet the last couple of days so hope all is well. Seeing MW 2moz.

RGPargy · 21/11/2007 20:04

Cape - hope something happens for you soon too!

Loopy - I dont fancy three sweeps in three days! That would be really horrible! Pleased you might have made a friend tho. How did you manage that? I might have to follow suit.....

Do you know, the one major difference that i've noticed about being pg this time around and being pg in 1990 is that now they (thankfully) dont give you an internal examination at every appointment! I can remember with DS that virtually at every appointment i had to drop me drawers for the doctor to have a rummage around to check the baby's position. I'm SO glad they dont do that these days. TBH, i'm sure that's probably one of the things i really dreaded about getting pg again, til i found out that they stopped doing internals years ago.

RGPargy · 21/11/2007 20:05

LOM - i keep feeling a bit sick now and then too but it quickly passes. Fingers crossed it's a good sign for you! Good luck with the MW tomoz.

Ah see, that's where i'm going wrong. If i took DS to the toddler group, i think he might hate me forever!!

I do have friends, dont get me wrong (honest!), but we all have our own lives and i dont get to see them very often.

Ugh i agree. The football is embarrassingly pants (as usual). England as a team are absolutely rubbish these past couple of years.

I agree with the Andrex analogy!!

I might watch something on the laptop during the second half. Will be 1,000 times more interesting than watching England lose - again!
