Hi,
Sorry I haven't been on for a couple of days but it's been really hectic.
Took DS to the Drs Friday am as he was completely covered in this rash. Got my chickenpox results back and I was immune, but the rash definately wasn't CP. Dr still awaiting results of rubella, so she said she would call me later. She took some photos os DS's rash so she could 'phone a friend' as she put it beacuse she really didn't know. Advised to keep putting calamine lotion on him and to keep giving him the piriton.
Left DS with Mum while I went shopping. Even my Dad was concerned as under all the red blotchiness, my DS skin was blue. By the time I returned my DS had a temperature of 40.8 and was very lethargic. Phoned Drs immediately and got him straight back up there. They then referred him to the pediatric ward at the hospital. Mum had come up with me and subsequently found out I was pregnant when Dr was on the phone to the hospital and mentioned I was 8 weeks. Boy did I get a funny look (with a coy smile!!!)
Spent a lovely afternoon and evening at the hospital with over 12 people coming into our room (we were put in isolation) to come and look at this unusual rash. If a research bod came in to see him. No-one seemed to know what it was. Then the consultant came in and took one look at it and said yes, this is classic xxxxx????.
Apparently my son has had a viral infection (he had a cough and a cold for a couple of weeks) and the rash is an allergic reaction to the virus. The rash itself is not infectious, but obviously the chest infection is. My poor man. He has been covered everywhere and I mean everywhere with a rash which started off red and then became raished wheels (similar to nettle rash but on a much larger scale) which was horrendously itchy. They've put him on a really strong anitbiotic (only 1 5ml spoon a day for three days) and today I can see that the rash is finally subsiding.
Now his cough has come back with a vengeance and his nose is streaming thick yellow/green goo (sorry if tmi) so may get him back to Drs tomorrow just to be checked out.
He's got to go back to the hospital on Wednesday for a check up. His temp has come down, but he is still a bit lethargic and he only really wants to eat crap - biscuits, pancakes, rather than a meal, so I am indulging him for a couple of days - at least he is eating something, although I am probably making a rod for my own back as he is not the best eater in the world at the best of times.
Today my DH has got to go an be checked out as he's had a cough for a week or so and the consultant wants him checked out also especially as he away next week with work.
Ho hum, it's all going on in Libraladys's world at the mo. Everyone is ill around me.
Sorry it's been all me, me, me, just thought I'd keep you posted as I had a few messages of support on Friday when we thought the worst - German Measles. BTW my rubella results came back positive - I've got the anitbodies so would be OK if I came into contact with anyone with GM.
Will catch up with the thread later on.
Bye for now
LLxx
