A place for those of us finally moving on from the infertility boards to share feelings, questions, tmi and to generally support each other.

@ekam call the midwife at your hospital and clarify with them.
@SpyroC in London hospitals they are allowing partners. Atleast i was allowed for 12 week scan

SpyroC · 01/03/2021 20:20

I agree @ekam phone up and check. I have had texts from GPs but it does come up with the name it surgery.

I still don't have the maternity notes app. Does everyone else have it? My midwife said they set it up at my 12w scan but they didn't and I was too emotional to think to ask. She said to ask them at 20w. Am I missing anything major?

Is it just my hospital still not allowing partners then? It was in the news not so long ago for having a high number of people catching covid there so I guess that's why. Even though maternity is a separate building 🙄 that being said I know a lady who does not want to attend her next growth scan due to the amount of people in the waiting room at her hospital and covid. But still you'd think 12 & 20w scans would be the exception!

Hi everyone - so much to catch up on! Hope everyone is ok! Things have been busy work wise so a hiatus on the board but good to hear everyone's updates!

@SpyroC my DH isn't allowed in for the anomaly scan either (London) which I agree sucks. Seems odd to me given we're a one house unit anyway but I guess they don't want too many people in the waiting area. When is your scan booked for? I'm next Wednesday afternoon so a week to wait! I'm counting down the days tbh and will be relieved to get this one out of the way, hopefully unscathed!

My hospital has an app for noted etc but there isn't a great deal on it that I can see, other than a place to put all your appts and so on.

TheGlitterFairy · 03/03/2021 14:36

@SpyroC sorry to hear you had to have a course of antibiotics too. Hope that all has been ok since then though it sounds as though you may not have needed them anyway?
We've had a bit of hoo ha with the UTI/ antibiotics situation in the last week or so. I had a routine midwife appt last week where the urine sample showed up some nasties so they put me on another course of pills over the weekend while it was sent to the lab to see whats what. Got the results back and it showed group strep b in the sample which sent me into a tail spin of panic. Spoke to the midwife this morning who has assured me it's all pretty common with lots of people having this with no symptoms - and it's typically picked up when they're testing for something else anyway. So - had to go to the labour ward today to pick up a prescription for MORE/ NEW antibiotics as the ones I've been taking for 5 days won't do anything.......and will need to drop a sample off next week after my scan so they can see if it's gone. She also mentioned that if I was to have a "normal" birth, then I'd need IV antibiotics while in labour so nothing is passed onto the baby but as I'm having a c section, it's unlikely that they'll need to do this so that's something at least!
I suspect that when I see the consultant next, they may put me on a low dose antibiotic for the remainder of the pregnancy. I've some ureteric complications from a few years back which seems to be making me more susceptible to the UTIs. At least it's nothing that I've done or not done!!

TheGlitterFairy · 03/03/2021 14:44

@ChicaXS pleased to hear that you've moved and all went well! Hope you're settling into your new home a bit more now. Thin it's natural to have a reaction like that with a new home, esp with pregnancy hormones flying around!! Did you decide to have another scan at 16 weeks? Hope that your nausea has gone now too!

@BonTon that sounds very scary - really hope that things have settled down for you now and all is ok?
I decided to tell work last week btw as had a catch up scheduled! They took it really well and I needn't have been worried about it! All are excited and happy and were just lovely about it! it was a relief to make the "confession"! Sounds as though you've been working hard with long days - hope you're able to pull it back a bit over the coming weeks/ months!

Think someone was asking about maternity pay? I'm on 3 months full pay; 3 months half; 3 months statutory and then will have 3 months with no pay. Am intending to have the full year and am fortunate to be in a position to do that.

@sazzt i've not bought anything yet and think will wait a bit longer! Would quite like to be able to wander round John Lewis or similar and just have a look at things to then start to compile a list!

TheGlitterFairy · 03/03/2021 14:53

@ekam - welcome! Yes, I have endo too - stage 4 and had surgery about 5 years ago which removed 3 chocolate cysts - largest was 10cm (!) and they cleared a load of gunk out at the same time too. While the surgery was successful in terms of the endo, my consultant (different to the chap who did the surgery) believes that it's this that damaged my ovarian reserve which is why we needed IVF - and I needed an egg donor - as anything left if buggered, basically. I've not had a lap/ surgery since then for the endo as have been concentrating on the IVF treatment but have been advised that when I've finished having my family (at this point I'd not been able to get out of the starting blocks!), then they've said I should have a hysterectomy as it's all buggered inside and none of it works properly - so something to look forward to! Oh - one of my fallopian tubes is blocked from the endo too, and I had a hysteroscopy last summer ahead of the treatment round I did last year, whereby he shut off the other tube as there was some sort of fluid going into the cavity which he felt would interfere with an embryo transfer and implantation so I'm effectively sterile and can't have children without treatment. All a bit of a mess really. We/ I wasn't aware that I had endo until we started trying for a family and nothing was happening/ was referred for the usual tests, which found the chocolate cysts.
I have 2 cysts now - one on each ovary that we've been ignoring for the last 2 years while going through the treatment - they're about 3cm on each side and I can feel them sometimes but generally speaking, they don't bother me. I also apparently have a high pain threshold so this is perhaps why!
All a bit of a mess on the endo side really!!

@SamoyedFan123 amazing to see your 20 week scan - so pleased to hear all is ok !

Hope everyone else is doing well on this Wednesday afternoon! x

ekam · 04/03/2021 18:50

Hi ladies x I didn't call up the hospital after all. I texted the Dr back asking why it isn't show up on my Maternity Notes up and she said it will be the next day which it did, so I think it's all legit.
@SpyroC I find the app useful to have a quick check on appointment dates/changes - they don't update all information on there though so things like blood test and urine test results are missing for me.
@TheGlitterFairy so sorry you went through such a long and hard journey with endo. That sounds alot! I'm glad it's all ok for now and fingerscrossed no more further complications. They couldn't link my infertility with endo at all because the tubes weren't blocked and there were no significant scarrings that they could see. Infact when we were having infertility treatments on NHS they couldn't find out why we couldn't conceive, nor they found my endo. I then went through another 5 years of terrible pain and bowel movements during AF then decided to see a private consultant who's specialised in endo treatment. Turns out my colon was stuck to the back of my vagina and both tubes were stuck to the side walls, so the damage were significant but on the outside and not inside of the uterus if that makes sense. After 2 laparoscopies they managed to unstuck everything thankfully, then the consultant told me to go for another IVF as soon as I can because who knows when endo will come back. And here we are.

I've started making a mental list of "must have" and "nice to have" items for whenever I'm ready to do baby shopping. Would love to hear what everyone has in your must have list (perhaps suggestions from friends/families/etc)

SpyroC · 05/03/2021 16:34

@TheGlitterFairy my scan is Tuesday 🤞🏻🤞🏻. The hospital called me today to say DH can now come 😀 however, we both have to go an hour early for a covid test. I like this idea as I'll feel safer in the waiting room too. I'm sorry you've found out about Strep B, it is really good that it's been picked up though. I read some scary stuff about it not being diagnosed and you've reminded me to make sure I get tested. I actually thought it had to be a blood test?? Obviously not. I hope that if they do put you on antibiotics that they are at least ones that don't make you feel awful!

@ekam I have created a folder of screen shot maybes on my phone. If my scan goes well I'll get back to it. I want the shops to open so I can try some pushchairs!

@ekam @TheGlitterFairy Endo is such a horrible disease! Do either of you want to ttc another in the future? I do and I'm wandering what I need to do to keep my endo at bay. Mine seemed to worsen over the time I was off the pill. I think we have until we stop breast feeding to decide as that should keep our hormones down right? I don't really kniw tbh. I'm thinking I should look in to it now before baby comes whilst I have the time to think about it. I did try to look up endo and fertility experts but didn't get very far.

Not much news here. Though baby has been moving a bit more 😀 x

Hi all, sorry it's been a while! Update from me, I had a private scan on Friday and baby is a little girl 🥰💖 i hope everyone is doing well. I'll spend some time later and scroll back through to see what I've missed

SpyroC · 09/03/2021 17:04

That's fab news @ivfjourney5 I had my 20w scan earlier and I am also having a baby girl 💗
😊 feel so relieved that everything is ok. Let us know how you get on tomorrow @TheGlitterFairy x

ChicaXS · 09/03/2021 19:05

Great to hear from everyone! So glad your scans went well! It’s baby girl fever in the house! ❤️

BonTon · 09/03/2021 19:30

Hi all! Thanks for the well wishes, it’s been a stressful few weeks - am still spotting but it’s getting lighter and baby has been fine at each of the three scans I’ve had since the bleeding started. Hoping we’re on the home straight now 🤞🏻🙏

@TheGlitterFairy great news you have told work and they were fine. I have also after the bleeding and they were also lovely! Seems silly looking back that they would have been anything but! Good luck with your scan tomorrow.

Lovely news about the girls @ivfjourney5 and @SpyroC 🥰

SamoyedFan123 · 09/03/2021 20:46

Congrats on the lovely scans @SpyroC and @ivfjourney5 - two girls! 😊 Is it just me having a boy so far??
@TheGlitterFairy good luck for your scan tomorrow!
@BonTon sorry you're still having spotting - good to hear that it's getting lighter and baby is unaffected though. Hope you're able to relax a bit more now 🤞

MF1981 · 10/03/2021 11:44

Hello ladies! A few names here I recognise from my fresh ivf cycle last year - I had my FET in Jan and am now 8+4 with twins!

BonTon · 10/03/2021 12:58

Fab news @MF1981, I remember you from the other board! I bet you’re over the moon (if not a little shocked 😂)... how are you feeling? I hear morning sickness can be awful with two of them in there!

MF1981 · 10/03/2021 13:48

Yeah it was a bit of a shock @BonTon - we transferred 2 but were told we only had a 20-30% chance of multiples. Yet here we are! The nausea is pretty bad to be honest and I’m soooo tired. But no actual sickness yet and it’s worse in the evenings which means I can just about cope when I’m working during the day. But it’s a struggle. How are you?

SamoyedFan123 · 10/03/2021 15:32

Congratulations @MF1981! I had twins from my fresh cycle - 30% change of twins they told us too - they are 21 months old now! We just had one of our frosties put back this time! 😂

MF1981 · 10/03/2021 16:46

Thanks @SamoyedFan123 - any hints or tips you have for coping with twins please do send them my way!!

BonTon · 10/03/2021 18:40

Yes I bet @MF1981.... so nice that you may not have to do this horrible process again ...assuming two is enough for you! fine thanks, contending with a bit of spotting but otherwise fine. Nausea has just about subsided now, I’m 16 weeks today and starting to get fatter for sure! ☺️

MF1981 · 10/03/2021 18:52

@BonTon ha 2 is more than enough for me! Not going through any of this again! Omg don’t tell me the nausea stays until week 16?! I can’t stand it!

ekam · 12/03/2021 14:15

@MF1981Congratulations! And twins! How amazing. Hope the nausea gets better soon

Great to see everyone else is doing well. @SpyroC how did the scan go?

Had my anamoly scan yesterday (and whooping cough vaccine). Baby is well and everything looks like they should, 10 fingers 10 toes and all that. The tech had to chase their one little hand for ages because they kept sucking the thumb then hiding the hand. We decided not to find out gender and wait for the surprise. I feel alot more confident now - told the wider family circle in the evening - it felt really good being able to share the good news with people.

I almost fainted on the table twice though - my blood sugar suddenly dropped - haven't had the best week so far very little sleep and I didn't eat much because work has been so so busy all of the sudden. Don't be like me, guys make sure you look after yourself

SpyroC · 12/03/2021 17:21

@SamoyedFan123 it's girl fever in my family the last few years too. On the day of my scan I was the first having a girl at 3! It's so random.

@BonTon glad to hear everything seems to be settling for you.

Welcome and congratulations*@MF1981* 😃

Congratulations on the scan! My scan was also good thanks 😊. My baby moved into a difficult position half way through-it was weird being tipped backwards lying flat! I don't think I could resist not knowing the gender-I'm a planner 🙈 a surprise will be lovely 🥰.

Gosh I'm losing track! Shall we do a list???
My baby brain is so bad and my memory is terrible. I've never done a Mumsnet style list but I'll give it a go!

@spyroC 20 weeks 💗

MF1981 · 12/03/2021 18:02

Close @SpyroC - I’m 9 weeks tomorrow!

ChicaXS · 12/03/2021 18:40

I am 19 weeks this week - my anatomy scan is next week. We will find out the gender! I am so nervous. Haven't felt the baby move but honestly I don’t know if it’s has or the baby? The moment feel like tiny kicks but are quite low? Nowhere as high as my belly button.
