[waves at everyone] Hiya! Just a quickie from Glasgow in between meetings...

Naetha and Nicky6 - that looks like the one we've got; basically you want to buy the 'big' book, not the slimline version. As far as we're concerned, it rocks! (And we're still using it for ds (aged 2) for the toilet training stuff!)

MrsMc - I'm up here again overnight on Nov 14th and probably 13th as well. Not going to be here on 27/11 although am supposed to be in Livingstone on 29th and 30th - but I think I'll have to do team dinner things that night. I'd love to meet up if you were able to be around on 13/14th tho!!!

Barristermum - I live in East Finchley too!! (jumps up and down really excitedly!!!)...how do we meet up?!!

Hospital bags - MMs list looks amazing, although maybe 3 outfits for LO is more than required...I guess someone could always bring in more if you end up staying more than 1 night? Our essentials last time ended up being:
Sandwiches (I made in advance, put in freezer then grabbed them as we left)
Lots of water (was so so so thirsty!)
Oasis/Energy drinks
Kit kats
Flapjacks
(are you picking up on the food theme here?)
Ice cubes in thermos flask
Magazines & papers (brain couldn't deal with books)
Ipod
Phone and phone charger
Fresh fruit (yes, more food)
Lip balm (lips got so chapped!)
Moisturiser (hands dry...what is it about hospitals?)
Nice shower gel/bath stuff for before/after
Lots of knickers (I hate the paper ones!)

Eek, late for meeting...love to all FM xxx

I have a masise apple pie craving this week... predominantly of the deep fried mcdonalds variety.

fluffy... i didnt take three last time, but just thought in case people stay for longer, but you are right the most important thing is to take something to put baby in after birth and some bits for labour... everything else can be brought in afterwards to be honest.

Battymamma · 24/10/2007 12:03

oh i'd take 3.... do you remember the horrendous first black/dark green explosive poo - or was that just my dd???

FM - I'm with you with the food thing

Hey ladies how are we all? I am shattered, this was my third early morning in a row as I am working from home tomorrow and Friday this week. What a woose I have become, I even slept in the car on the way in. That said, Beanie has been particularly busy at night and has been waking me up with kicks ? not that I mind but I am tired!!

Hello Fruitful, how are you? Managing to stay sane hon? is it true that hospital food gives you constipation? Interesting that you had that nesting fit, do you think it was a 6th sense?! I am hoping to wash Beanie?s things and hang them on the line tomorrow, I want to take a picture of them all drying for the birth book ? yup, very sad first time mother! where are you going to get your big knickers from? I was thinking Tesco? Also ? maternity pads ? what would you personally advise? I am paranoid about leaking on my clothes when I have visitors!! No more good dreams here either I have asked DH if I can call the new mat pillow I?ve ordered Nathan in honour of last week?s dirty dream he is so jealous, I quite like it! LOL at the mooing sounds ? I just know that?ll be me. DH has also become obsessed with women pooing in labour and thinks it is really funny, this is all because a friend of his, very immature in my opinion, told all his mates that she pooed in the birthing pool whilst having their 2nd child. I have already told DH that if anything happens like that he is to keep it to himself, all his friends knowing is the last thing I want to worry about. Had to laugh last night though as he was telling his folks the story again (what a child! ) and his mother told him that she?d pooed and he?d been covered in it at birth ? PMSL!! Do you need any books to keep you going? I could send you a couple of good ones if you like?

Barristermum hello you no, I haven?t told you before about DH but I think I?d like to as it?s a bit worrying on a couple of occasions over the last few years he has had bleeding from his back passage. He never tells me when it happens, only tells me after he?s been to the doctor. Most of the time they do nothing, maybe examine him and declare it could be piles or something. A couple of months ago it happened quite heavily and so they sent him for an xray examination (can?t remember what that was called) it came back clear. He then had another incident that lasted a few days. I could tell he was really scared but is mortified to talk about it even to the Dr. He did go back and they have referred him for another examination, again, I have forgotten which one but I really hope they can say definitively what it is and isn?t, the whole thing is really scary and also very unpleasant for DH

BeckyAu ? sorry to hear about the nightmares and the impact on your budget just not what you need right now! I see there is a hospital bag list coming up, I?ll add in any extras on mine

FrankAwen ? have to say I gave my old cat lots of extra strokes last night to remind her how much I love her, she wasn?t impressed though ? is still so grumpy about her leg which doesn?t seem to me to be any less lame we?ll see what the vet says on Sat, I guess she?s only had it in plaster for 2 weeks, when she did a similar thing to the other back leg last year she was in plaster for 6 weeks but made a full recovery. Your cat sounded like a wonderful animal I really like Samuel by the way enjoy half term with Ds

Gingeme ? that?s fabulous! ohhhh don?t mention stitches!!! Happy 1st Birthday to your DS must be really funny remembering that day and knowing you are about to do it all again!

Nicky6 ? I have bought the same one as Naetha, am reading it at the mo actually though not got very far yet. I?m worried my DH might get like that about my AN classes especially as his Dad 2 Be classes are on the same night he is definitely coming with me to the active birth workshop though so that is something! I have put on over 3 pounds this week which was a shock maybe it?s because I lost just under 2 last week. So far, I have put on just under 18 pounds so like you, I think we are still well within the average though I don?t know how much weight we are supposed to/likely to put on in the last 10 weeks? I think I read 37% of the total in the last 10 weeks? Is that right?

Crypletsandtwins ? how awful! on what basis did they try and push you for that? Doesn?t sound like it was medical as they all sound and look perfect. Good for you for resisting, the persuasive power of the white coat can often get too much for even the strongest of us. What?s HOM? wow, you are in Florida!! Very jealous are you a Brit living there then? (do I know all this already ? some bells are ringing somewhere?!) I like your names

Mixedmama ? glad to hear that you slept well I?ve read through your fab list and would add the following (remember my hospital dress your baby when you are in so I don?t need clothes ? apparently they just get lost if you do take your own and also that they like to keep new Mums in for 5 days to help with breastfeeding ):

  • maternity pillow
  • lansinoh nipple cream
  • make up
  • money
  • anti bac wipes for loos etc
  • anti bac wipes/gel for hands

Oh and there?s more

Fluffymummy ? hope it is as sunny in Glasgow as in Edinburgh ? though was very chilly first thing! There?s a thread on here somewhere with a poor lady of a 6 week old really stressed out that things are not working the BW way! Sure she?d love to hear from you Rats I have a catch up with a friend in Edinburgh on 14th Nov but 13th might work if you are around? Also, Livingstone is about 10 mins from me!! Ice cubes is a good one ? I?ll add that to my list along with sandwiches I have water on my list and on order, no one can believe how much I drink! Charger for the phone is a good point. One tip someone gave me was to pack an extra bag in case you have to stay in longer and keep it in the car so you are not at the mercy of your DH!

MM ? oh yum love those, haven?t had one for years though!!

Sorry Lulubump we do need a new thread!! Fab list I think my bag will actually be a suitcase!!

Cant believe I forgot nappies

anyone got any ideas for new thread title then....

has anyone seen amani around??

Oh meant to say dont know if you ladies would be interested, but on the Dec thread we are having a text buddy scheme so if someone is missing for a few days we arent all panicking. Basically, we either swap numbers with someone on facebook or sign up for CAT on mumsnet and swap that way...idea being that at least one person (whoever each person feels comfy with) has the other number as text buddies. Dont know if we would be interested in doing that here.

I am amazed by the hospital list, really didnt realise how much stuff we would need to take, but all of it seems necessary or worth taking in case!!

We are going to need our own wards to house all our belongings!!!!

Report
mixedmama · 24/10/2007 13:26

cazzy - i dont think we need to take every thing that is listed, and tbh might be better if people bought in a lot ofthe stuff once we were there..... i guess stuff for labour and something for you and baby are the essentials.

I seriously had quite a big bag last time - this list does look good to me even though it is very long. I hate not having eveything. I will also add lipstick and blusher to my toiletries bag. People were VERY impressed that I had makeup on and brushed hair in the 'straight after birth photos' which some bright spark decided to send to the local newspaper!

Right - any ideas on what I should pack for my toddler's bag? She's going to need an overnight bag too for nanny's!!

I wouldnt think they would need too much. I am very lucky as my folks live very close by so can pop back for anything i forget and they keep their own nappies, DS has a toy box there etc.
