x-posted with the 'loneliest year of a womans life' thing. I found the total opposite with DD. Made such good friends through my NCT group and still see them all the time now. I was never at home, always out with DD seeing people and doing things. I loved it so don't think it autmatically follows that you will be stuck in on your own. There are loads of things on for new mums, you just have to find them!

mixedmama · 19/10/2007 13:40

toomanyshoes - i am willing you to feel better so you can come for curry. well done for getting everything so sorted.

PinkElephant · 19/10/2007 13:45

Thank you Amani, Madmouse, Angechica, Mixedmama, MrsMcSpooky, Toomanyshoes and Nicky6 for all your lovely words. I'm feeling a bit brighter and less tearful today you'll be glad to hear. Heading up north to see them tomorrow so I'll know I've done all I can to be there for them as often as I can at the mo. Bumps kicking so much now that my dad will be able to feel it which will lovely for him.

Nicky6 - ooh your message was lovely but did make my eyes well up with tears. I often think excatly the same as what your mum said she felt and I know that my little bundle will give my mum great comfort also.

Have a good weekend all xxx

Amani · 19/10/2007 13:47

Actually, I must admit I felt a little lonely at times while on mat leave with DD and I recieved no information from HV about mother and babies groups in my local area, despite asking.

This time, I've researched some mother and toddler groups, so I can take DD to them, as I will be reducing her nursery hours while on m/l.

Getting out and about makes so much difference. I have only kept in touch with one lady but we are really good friends now.

I have friends who didnt bother with the meeting people thing and were always bored but put it down to culture- for me it was about sanity.

Amani · 19/10/2007 14:00

I know it's sounds daft but there were times after I had DD where I wished I was back at work: enjoying adult company, banter etc.

Gingeme ? that?s it, I am going to get my bag ready in the next couple of weeks so that it is done and ready by 30 weeks just in case mind you with all the stuff I think I want to take, I?ll need a matching set of luggage hope you have fun at DS?s b?day ? sounds great fingers crossed for Monday.

Katyt1 ? hello there! LOL at what you said about your folks! Hope you get clear tests for GD!

Beller ? thanks LOL about the client ? is he tasty?! Do you think being on all 4s in your dreams helps positioning?!

Amani ? I actually only need something to go home in for the baby and nappies etc and the hospital cloths it when we are there.

Toomanyshoes ? that?s great about your mortgage, that?ll make a massive difference. We?ve checked, no payment holidays allowed I?m nearly there on my Christmas shopping too just have DH to get something for now ? but what?! 10 sheets ? fabulous!!

Pinkelephant ? hope your bump is very active for your visit to see your Dad hon

I can?t imagine being lonely at all on mat leave, I think it?ll be fab being out doing things with the baby and other mums, or seeing friends that don?t work or just being able to potter ? we?ll see!

FrankAwenstein · 19/10/2007 22:44

sorry not posted.

PinkElephant sorry about your dad. I really hope that he is there to see his grandchild.

Re hopsital bag.. Oh bugger. DP has been nagging me about it since coming back from Japan. I have said it isnt important atm and wont need it for agggeeess.. hmm very nearly 30 weeks now so perhaps better get my act together. I got comments several times today along the lines of.. 'not long to go yet??', 'looks like the baby has dropped' , 'how many are you having?'...... started to get paranoid as i am so achey (feels like i have been horse riding) and had another cleaning frenzy.. Am excited but nervous as scan on MOnday and find out how this little baby is doing.

barristermum · 20/10/2007 18:58

Hi folks - sorry it has been such a long time since I posted - it's been a bit manic at work and I haven't had a chance and then it took me a few days to just catch up! was lovely to see you asaking where I was.

It's been a bit of a tough week - was sorry to read 2manyshoes getting GD, and am sure that diagnosis is coming my way after what you've said. I had my gtt on thurs and don't know when I'll get the answer, but have had a couple of light headed moments, and also had a growth scan on thurs and apparently my baby's tummy is in the 97th centile so will be HUGE! Both mum and dad have type 2 diabetes and i am very overweight so probably haven't helped myself - just don't want to make things harder for my baby and also be diabetic for life already which is possible, and certainly there's a higer risk of type 2 diabetes for me and baby in later life. Shouldn't get down before the diagnosis but am guessing the worst and feeling guilty.

Anyway, on the more positive side I don't think I have an irregular heartbeat which was another test I had to have on thurs so lets concentrate on that and on others

Pink elephant - am so sorry to hear about your dad - so so hard. You are in my prayers.
MrsMcSpooky (great name change) - don't worry about the money - you just need to sell your house and all these worries will be a distant memory, so fingers crossed for this weekend's viewings.
Frankawenstein - another great name - I am likely to be in southampton Tues - Fri this week if you are around, but don't worry at all if you have too many other things going on.
Nicky6 - sorry about the trial and the domestics - hang on in there. Am sure your husband is just having difficulty coming to terms with the reality of it all - as lulubump said a while ago re hers, my husband had a bit of a moment worrying about seeing me in pain and not being able to do anything and that preoccupied him. I hope you are dropping some heavy hints about the level and sparkliness of gift to arrive post labour! I am window shopping for myself already!
What is placenta accreta? SO sorry it lloks like you are going to be there for a while! You and your family must be missing each other so so much. Really feel for you.
naetha - you've had a rough old time lately haven't you? The mouth ulcers sound DREADFUL!
and much love as always mixedmama, gingme, amani, katy1, lulubump, mrsbiscuit, beller and anyone else I haven't mentioned above - loveyou all!

Naetha · 21/10/2007 14:48

Hello all - got the internet back finally - yay!

For those that haven't done their christmas shopping yet, and often get nice chocs for people, Thorntons are doing their chrismas boxes half-price at the moment, both online and in their shops.

The link is here - you get 60 Thorntons chocs for £5.95

www.thorntons.co.uk/ThorntonsSite/product/Christmas%20Preview/5805.htm

Also, if you use the code "ancs" you get a further 15% off

I've bought three boxes already, and may buy some more if I pass a shop - you can never have too many emergency boxes of chocs!

LilyLoo · 21/10/2007 21:27

Evening all am rubbish at keeping up but hey trying to do xmas shopping and managed to get soem things for dc's this weekend and for baby off ebay.

Pink elephant to hear your news.

Mrs Mc how did the viewings go ?

Hoping against the worst barristermum try not to worry, easier said than done i know.

Let us know how you get on tom Awen

Wow Gingeme, toomanyshoes you are organised and there's me proud to have started xmas shopping

Amani it's such a shame you felt like that when on mat leave i can't wait and i'm sure it will fly. Tbh i did find i had less time to be lonely with my second and can imagine not having a minute with my third!

Beller how was dad's birthday ?

Hi Katy you must share your homebirth experience am starting to get afew jitters now ! Madmouse haven't really looked on homebirth sites is it reccomended ?

MM great news about the house sale going through hope you can get more straight now as i remember it was very stressful for you.

Anyway hi to everyone else and will try to keep up more. And can i also be cheeky and post a link to dp's site again for ifa/ mortgage advice here every little helps to the new baby fund.

Good night and hope you all keep well x

ayrshirelolo · 21/10/2007 21:29

hello all!
finally found you all again after a coupleof weeks and my wee holiday, but don't have the time to read through everything! Hope everyone is ok, had a nice thought tonight, coz i've not used a lot of annual leave this year i stop work in 8 weeks time so only 8 more monday mornings... yeah!!! I'm beginning to get very tired and it's only gonna get worse so roll on December 14th...
love to you all, lolo xx

madmouse · 21/10/2007 21:31

Enters, looks round, anybody here? Gosh, quiet here in the weekend.

Barristermum, my baby had a big tummy at his 20 week scan, sonographer says they see it all the time now so I doubt it is a sign of GD. Nobody has suggested I have a GTT in any event. Fingers crossed.

Anyways, greetings to all, take care of yourselves and the bumps. I am off to Holland tomorrow until Friday. Never been so hesitant to go, being pregnant has made me a home body!

I think lo headbutted me this afternoon, right in the stomach. Took my breath away. Been watching rugby, oh dear

madmouse · 21/10/2007 21:33

Hi LilyLoo and Airshirelolo, did not see you come in

nicky6 · 21/10/2007 21:53

Well girls we have had a breakthrough I had mentioned the baby show at earls court to my dh and ten left it and e brought it up and we went on friday for a couple of hours.

As a result we have bought all the nursery furniture and ended up with i think fantastic deal we got cot, dresser/changing table rocking chair and stool delivery and assembly for £350. It is from a company called tutti bambini they are on the web and even there have the best deals i have seen but i would ring if anyone interested as they mixed and matched stuff for us.. Actually we bought a white set with baby blue edges and tops, we dont know if we are having a boy or a girl, but baby blue is my favourite colour so I dont care!!!

Also i think we have decided on a buggy thing. Its not one of the usual names its a hauck infinity. It looks quite like a bugaboo, and coes with 2 way facing seat multi position with car seat, cosy toes footmuff, changing bag, raincover and its £225 which seems to be quite a good deal. And its quite lightweight.

ANyway so we have made our first purchases but just when i think i'm doing well you guys are packing bags - goodness not even thought about all that yet.

Blac tie do in bristol was actually good fun and i was still dancing at 1am and in heels!!! was quite tired though come the end of the evening. Had really lovely time with dh which was great.

beller · 22/10/2007 07:49

x

mixedmama · 22/10/2007 08:41

Morning all,

[waves] Hi Barristermum, you have been sorely missed. Hope everything works out with the diabetes stuff.

Not much to report here, had a very quiet weekend, altho yesterday ended up going out for dinner for my cousins birthday and ate far too much.

frutiful - hope you are bearing up ok and Frankawen hoe everything goes well today.

Morning everyone... very proud of myself today was very organised this morning and managed to get up make lunch for DH and I and eat breakfast (normally bought from a cafe) and brush my hair and put on make up, but this is mainly because my mum is on half term so came to ours this morning and I didnt need to get DS ready or anything.

Amani · 22/10/2007 08:49

Morning all,

How are we ladies today? . Did you have a nice weekend?

Took DD to the Safari Park, which she loved, although at times she was more fascinated with the pigeons than the actual lions and tigers, then half way through she got a little fed up and contented herself with looking at the animal pictures in her book!

Eaten so much pizaa this weekend, so feeling even more of a 'Fatty'. Took my neices to Pizza Hut on Friday Sat night and on Sunday night DH friends popped around and ordered pizza in. My immunity to pizza is very low, so tucked in - making sure I was eating for 2

Beller - sounds interesting about your Dad going to Antartica - did he fancy an unusal holiday?
Awen - all the best with your scan today - let us know how it goes.

at anyone going on holiday/returned from one - hope you had a nice time....want to be somewhere nice and hot.

Decided last night that I have to get my act toegther and sort hospital bag out and make any needed purchased by end of Nov, sort of panicked when I thought I've got about 2 months to go.

Have a nice day all......
