If you gusy don't mind, can you please take a couple of minutes to sign this petition for the testing of every pregnant woman for Group B Streps:

petitions.pm.gov.uk/groupbstrep/

I had it in my last pregnancy and I have not been checked for it during this pregnancy - so feel quite strongly about it.

Batty - washing hair is the worst. Am sure the whole street can hear her scream.

Neuro · 17/10/2007 14:34

Is anyone obsessed with artificial smells at the moment?

Feel like i can't get enough of hairspray, soap, bleach, washing up liq - even those in car deodoriser things that hang from the mirror.

I've put a bit of handsoap from our work loo on a bit of tissue and sniffing it when no ones looking.

I am offically a loon now...

Amani · 17/10/2007 14:41

air freshner......

OP posts:
madmouse · 17/10/2007 14:51

I am the total opposite. Have not worn my perfume since falling pregnant and can't stand anything artificial. Love lemon and minty smells like vaporub and olbas oil (which was a good thing when I had a cold teehee).

Battymamma · 17/10/2007 14:59

Neuro - at least you aren't eating the air freshener - things could be weirder! I have a very heightened sense of smell but am not craving any smells at the mo!

Is anyone else having or has had a 'feeling fat' day. I keep thinking how thin all my female colleagues look today and its not that they've lost weight its just that I'm growing!

beller · 17/10/2007 15:01

amani..have signed it! xx

Battymamma - Yes thats the one...so sad..when i went round there last night there were pics and stuff of her and craig. Her children were lovely too, im definately going to keep in touch with her and help anyway i can xx

Neuro · 17/10/2007 15:01

Well Batty, my flatmate has these scented candles and boy do i want to eat them. She let me have one to keep by my bed so i can keep sniffing it. And the random loose cloves, but that's another story.

I'm not keen on perfume on myself either, but do like smelling of good old fashioned soap the mo!

I want to lie under my desk and go to sleep....

madmouse · 17/10/2007 15:09

Neuro be careful if you wake up hungry!

mixedmama · 17/10/2007 15:19

Amani i signed too

mixedmama · 17/10/2007 15:20

beller are you still coming for curry next week

Amani · 17/10/2007 15:23

thanks to whoever signed.

Batty - I feel fat everyday and it doesn't help when people think I am due to give birth tomorrow and say things like 'you haven't got long looking at the size of your bump'.

Neuro - I feel like eating flavoured tabacco which is used for smoking pipes (shisha)

OP posts:
mixedmama · 17/10/2007 15:29

people say that to me all the time... just ignore them.

Battymamma · 17/10/2007 15:31

I had a comment from a work colleague - 'do you think you could possibly get bigger??'

I just think people don't see pregnant woman in the later stages of pregnancy very often in newspapers, magazines etc so they are very ignorant of exactly how large you do get at the end. Its all natural but it seems to freak people out!

Amani - just signed up

Neuro - you can eat cloves they are good for your gums if you have tooth ache! I always want a kip this time of the day. Wouldn't that be nice!

mixedmama · 17/10/2007 15:39

i just bought the weight watchers magazine... trying to figure out the point right now.

madmouse · 17/10/2007 16:23

I understand you MixedMama. I nearly did the same . I lost 6st with WW between June 2004 and September 2005, then started the more or less successful battle to keep it off. To get big now, but in a different way, is quite confusing!

Naetha · 17/10/2007 16:51

Afternoon all - have signed the petition

Had my blood test this morning for thyroid, folate and b12 problems - no idea when I get the results back. In a way I hope they find something wrong (as long as it's easy to fix!) so they can give me a pill or an injection and I can get back to normal. The inside of my mouth is horrendous - I counted 20 ulcers this morning .

I then went on to have my MW appointment - everything was fine, LO kept on squirming away from the sonicaid and was very difficult to get a HB for - we'd get it for a couple of seconds, then he'd squirm away again! He's head-down at the moment, and measuring fine for dates

A friend at DH's work recommended that I drink guinness for medicinal purposes () and DH seems really keen on the idea, so for a week I am trialling the drinking of half a canof guinness per evening! I can't see any FAS problems with it in all honesty (especially as my mother drank a pint of stout per night in all three of her pregnancies) but I won't be drinking any more! I'm not particularly keen on guinness either, so may stop after this 6-pack is finished!

MrsMcSpooky · 17/10/2007 17:11

Hey ladies back from MW appointment, all fine. Beanie tried to escape the sonic aid as usual I got talking to a HV whilst I was waiting too and we were talking about breast feeding and the support available locally etc, she was really nice, it?s a shame that my postcode isn?t one of her catchment areas (that said, might not be here then) she invited me along to a support group to talk to other BFing Mums before I have Beanie ? think I?ll go along when I am on Mat leave MW wasn?t interested in my backache she also said that hardly any Dads go to the AN classes out here.

Neuro ? poor you I felt a bit like that yesterday afternoon and had to leave the building for air too. There?s never any harm in getting checked out, I?m glad you have an appointment. Hope you are feeling much better now. Love your ideas on the handbags I have a Raymond Weil watch that I got for my graduation, its still going strong (10 years old now) and I love it that said, personally I think there?d be nothing better than being able to buy yourself a diamond ? that?s the epitome of being good to yourself! Go girl! that would be a great hand me down too ? how proud would you be to say that it was your reward to yourself for producing such a lovely baby how odd about the smells! I can?t bear most smells at the mo. Could even smell some off the package that the courier brought this morning.

MM ? your DS is a cutie

Awen & Amani ? can?t see your photos

Beller ? that sounds like a fabulous idea with that diamond My DH and I have diamonds (tiny ones) from a pair of my Grandmother?s earrings in our wedding rings ? I have 3, DH has 1. I wear her eternity ring as my engagement ring too (my Dad gave it to my DH to give to me when he asked for my hand) I totally believe in recycling gems! Thanks for the book recommendations I?ve just started reading The Baby Whisperer and so far it seems to suit us in style I think MW told me that there is no breathing coaching in my AN classes and she just looked aghast when I mentioned hypnobirthing

Hey Gingeme sorry you are tired today.

Battymamma ? Adam from Spooks is very cute my impression of the outcome of BUB was that the parents felt confident in what they were doing and had found a routine. I?m not sure that the Spock couple was the best advert for the method though as they didn?t seem that confident in what they were doing and I think they did suffer more as a result. Wonder what happened to the 2nd Spock couple?! what?s this list on December?

Amani ? LOL at you eating all that humous! I?ve signed that petition already, totally agree with it.

Naetha ? it sounds like you are really suffering

MIL just phoned to ask if she could buy a shawl for the baby ? I told her to go right ahead ? hadn?t even thought about shawls, guess I?d use it if I had one!

sideways · 17/10/2007 17:17

MrsMcSpooky - quick question - I assume I can eat loads of Manchego in Spain. I will be very upset if not, as I 'll alrdy have to stay away from the wine!

MrsMcSpooky · 17/10/2007 17:29

I ate it figured that it is hardly a soft cheese and therefore should be ok I also think that a small amount of wine, especially with a meal, every so often is fine too but maybe that's my continental upbringing! have fun hon! oh and I also ate Serrano ham, love the stuff! probably not supposed to but I did.

mixedmama · 17/10/2007 17:32

Oh MrsMc - I posted a really anal list that I had made of my post birth plan... telling myself how to clean, lose weight etc....

Naetha · 17/10/2007 17:36

Apologies if it sounds like I'm suffering - I just like to whinge now and again!! Sorry your MW wasn't interested in backache - they only seem to pay attention when it's medically important, which is fair enough to some extent, but it would be nice to get some sympathy or advice sometimes!

I love the idea of a birth-present, unfortunately DH doesn't seem too keen!! I don't really wear jewellery and don't wear a watch so can see his point really!

Got a lovely roast dinner for tonight - I put it on after my MW appointment at 12, so should be gorgeously slow cooked by now

Might have to go and check out this December thread (well technically I am due in December!)

MrsMcSpooky · 17/10/2007 17:39

Oh MM - post it again here

Naetha - your dinner sounds yummy thanks for the sympathy

Neuro · 17/10/2007 17:46

i want to lie on the floor and go to sleep....

come on 6 o clock!

My aims for post birth are: successfully breastfeed. As long as I remember to wash my hair during the first month (when i am totally shell shocked) i'll be happy.

Month 2: start making effort with appearance again.

sabinar · 17/10/2007 17:59

hey sideways, according to wikipedia (which is my font of all knowledge), it's a semi-firm cheese which for my intents means that it's in

all i need now is some kind of 'get out of jail' card for sausage and I'll be happy.

oh, and wine. Although i fancy I might get just a little of that in too. (I tend to be v good when I'm at home but then have a couple of glasses when I'm traveling somewhere like Italy or Spain. How can you not!)

will definitely keep an eye out for fellow well-rounded English speaking women in Barcelona over the weekend! oooh! it's going to be so nice to have a break! can't wait.

If only I were having a girl I'd definitely be putting in a vote for the designer handbag as baby birthing present. I love the idea of having something exquisitely vintage to give to a daughter when she's older. Not really going to work with this little fella though, I don't think. I'm not much of a watch wearer, so I guess sigh that leaves diamonds. Oh well, guess I can live with that ;)

I'm in complete sympathy with anyone feeling fat at the moment. I feel well and truly in the midst of a growth spurt right now. I'm sure my belly was much bigger this morning than it was when I went to bed last night. Quite scary.
