hello!!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
susiemj · 12/10/2007 18:58

I did already have a peek at your cats, MrsMc. They are VERY nice.

At the moment I'm a teacher but I've been too ill with this pregnancy to work for a while. I'm in two minds about going back, because it's quite likely I'll be just as sick next time I get pregnant. I really enjoy the job, but I don't think it's fair to have such another long absence. The children need stability. So, we're thinking I might give up the teaching for a few years and I'll do editing and translating from home. I used to work as a University lecturer and my husband's Spanish so I'm ok at both those things.

Good that your work is being understanding.

Susiemj - sorry to hear you've been so ill I grew up in Spain and DH and I (and Beanie and the pussy cats!) are planning to move back next year. DH is doing night school at Uni to learn Spanish (into his 2nd year now) but mine it really rusty too and I'll need to brush up to work over there. Are you looking at Spanish names for your baby? It?s one of our criteria that our names are pronounceable in Spain. My sis really suffered with being called Kirsty!

I've exhausted myself looking at bouncers and rockers and glider chairs all evening!

I'm wondering how to ask dh to bring me in a roll of toilet paper without him thinking I've completely utterly lost it.

I'm on a ward that is half antenatal & half postnatal, with shared dining room in the middle. So I keep meeting women with brand-new gorgeous tiny babies which is at least reminding me why I'm doing all this! Dh brought dd&ds in this evening so we could all have tea together which was good. They are both exhausted and near tears on leaving though, which made me come back in and bawl for a while (till dh had had time to get them home and in bed and I could phone him). Mind you there is a lady here with 4 older children and she is 24wks pg with triplets, one of whom is struggling, I think I'd be losing my mind!

I'm making the most of dh's sympathy for me, to persuade him round to the name that I really like - how are the rest of you getting on with names?

Ugh, half a pot of marmite. Ugh. thats vomit not envy! Yargh, urckk. I buy squeezy pots so I can put it on ds's toast without touching it too much, even with a knife!

Oh good grief someone's having a baby next door. To be expected in here but there are a few first-timers in here waiting to be induced and they're having to sit and listen, its not good!

MrsMcSpooky · 12/10/2007 22:24

Hey Fruitful ? how are you feeling? any sign of your release papers? LOL at DH and the loo roll, you could tell him the stuff there is too scratchy!?

Sounds like a busy ward, is it hard to get any sleep? I do feel for you with your DCs wow ? that poor lady having triplets, I hope they are all ok but wow, that?s a lot of kids! come on spill the beans ? what?s the name you like? I think I?ve said before but I think we have chosen ours. Marmite smells like sweaty bollocks if you ask me!

That sounds scary having to listen to someone give birth ? I?d have nightmares, I already do about the ?tools? they lay out for births on TV!

You take great care hon xx

susiemj · 12/10/2007 22:31

Fruitful - LOL for the loo roll and the first timers! I'm one of them. Iwent to the maternity ward today and I was dreading hearing things. All was quiet.

What a coincidence, MrsMc! If you grew up in Spain your Spanish is almost certainly better than mine! I haven't paid it much attention for the last couple of years and now with my preg head (which I have badly!) I'm forgetting the basics.

We are trying to do the same spelling at least of names. I see your expecting a surprise but would you like our lists of similar names for boys and girls? We found a fair few.

We're thinking at the moment between these, but are open to change and haven't really made up our minds.

Ana Maria
Ines Ana
Beatriz Maria

So this is in part an answer to Fruitful's question.
My name's Susanna Maria, which is aprt of the reason for the repetition! Thoughts?

Anyone else thinking names?

Thanks Susiemj that is kind on the names front but we have decided ? Aaliyah for a girl and Xavier for a boy, both easy to say is Spain, granted Xavier will be Javier/Javi but that?s ok, was once in love with a Javi I like your names a lot though. I like Anna, have always done but DSIL is Ann so not a goer for us. Innes was on our list but for a boy (boy?s name here in Scotland) but DH wasn?t keen and we had our wedding reception at a beautiful hotel called Beatriz ? like Maria too but know too many people called that. We?ve had great fun winding up DH?s parents that the baby will be Immi (Immaculada) or Conni (Concepcion) for a girl and Jesus for a boy ? fine in Spain but DH?s folks are very Scottish and those names are just too ?foreign? for them! especially with a Mc surname! Mind you yesterday I was reminded of Loch Torridon and thought that Torridon would be a nice name for a boy Toro for short

susiemj · 13/10/2007 12:24

Lovely names. We have a friend called Anuncacion. You could scare your inlaws with that too!

We are lucky as 'Jordan' - with an accent over the 'a' is a Spanish surname. Baby should just melt in in either country.

Glad you like names. DH's favourite is Beatriz. I really like it in Spanish, but is it too old lady for UK?

FrankAwenstein · 13/10/2007 12:25

Fruitful - @ loo roll. Also lots of ((hugs)) too. Couldnt imagine how hard without other dc. Poor woman in their with the triplets tho. Next marmite will def be a squeezy tube here. DS and DP both love marmite..

MrMcSpooky - LOL @ the marmite smelling like sweaty bollox - have to agree!

Susie - loving the names you have for baby Sound beautiful.

I managed to sleep in till 12 but also

Off to get bugaboo < dances waddles around> and also moses mattress and other bits. Sooooo excited. Feeling baby a bit more think he turned last night. Not sure if he is lying across me atm, will find out on Tuesday with MW and next monday at scan.

Am wakinbg up loads more again at night for smallest amount of pee and back aching, hip aching and getting tired out really quick. Anyone else enjoying these joys?

FrankAwenstein · 13/10/2007 12:26

Susie - not too old for UK, one of our possible girls names (we are having a boy tho)

MrsMcSpooky · 13/10/2007 12:49

No Susiemj, not old fashioned, I think Beatriz/Beatrice is lovely, those names are making such a come back anyway

Frank ? enjoying all those things too! enjoy your spree ? what colours are you going for?

DH drunken pain in the last night, I didn't get to sleep until 5 because of all of his antics he is still sleeping and was meant to be going out again to meet mates 15 mins ago - he,he - he can jolly well take the car and not get into such a state again today!!!

Also did the loo roll test. Exactly 8 sheets of Co-op's recycled finery at 25 weeks .

Spent a long lunch hour yesterday hunting a pair of good maternity jeans. Finally found a pair at Mamas and Papas that was perfect. Bit pricier than planned but sooo comfy. I was exhausted and sprat was kicking me in the stomach (Mum, stop putting all these tight things on and get into your office chair so I can have my play time)

FrankAwenstein · 13/10/2007 18:02

we are proud new owners of one bugaboo gecko. Went for black in the end. Took ages to decide as only just fits in car boot (vauxhall corsa) and we dithered over the mama bebe loola (sp). We were told waiting time of 8 weeks but..... they had a bugaboo in stock room .. so now in nursery! Did look in John Lewis for bugaboo but they said they had to check price match next week and would refund difference.. also 4 - 6 weeks wait. Tbh was suprised at their service so went to other shop. DP now looking at a cars!

Have also bought mattress for moses basket but has to be delivered as were out of stock.

Looked at the Britax SI in the car and it is massive. Fine as forward facing but thought too bulky rearward facing so going for a smaller new born carseat and will get a bigger one when baby older.

MrsMcSpooky - how was dh's head when he got up? Did he get out to his friends?

Tomorrow is painting day here. Am knackered from shopping. DP said in future should do all shopping online! ..

sideways · 13/10/2007 19:49

Hi everone

Fruitful - from your description it soulds as if you are in the same place I was when I was in for hyperemesis. Listening to the inductions was not fun! Hope you are out soon.

Awen - well done on the purchases. I am also getting lots of hip pain in the night and have to heave myself over in bed hundreds of times (well it feels like it)

susie - my hyperemesis is not too bad now, nowhere near as bad as yours by the sound of it. I was very bad a few months ago and in hospital for 2 weeks, but now, although I feel sick pretty much constantly, I am not being sick more than once every 2 weeks or so.

Spend the morning looking at pushchairs/travel systems. Some lovely ones there but need to keep looking a bit I think.

MrsMc - hope dh had terrible headache all day today

gingeme · 13/10/2007 21:03

Evevning ladies.
My dh and his friend layed our new front room floor today. Looks fab. Had a change round of furniture too.So pleased with it.
Getting achey hips at night too. Woke up about 4am with PAINFUL cramp. Thought Id got away with it this time but apparantly not
Fruitful must be pretty scary hearing ladies in labour. You should pop in there and tell them not to scream as it doesnt help. Bet youd get some funny looks
Never thought of Marmite smelling like sweaty bollox. Wonder if it tastes like them too
Night night ladies xx

susiemj · 14/10/2007 13:36

Morning ladies,

at all your household preparations. I am now surrounded by an ever-growing mountain of boxes. We're off to the new house on Wednesday! Chaos ensues....

Glad for positive votes on Beatriz. I think I'm not sure because it's not one I would have chosen but one DH came up with. Some of the ones I wanted mean (or come close to meaning) other things in Spanish e.g.Rebecca = slang name for 'cardigan', Lily sounds too much like 'lelo' which means 'stupid'! And Nancyis what they call Barbie dolls over there apparently.

MrsMc - hope your DH calmed down, or at least let you sleep!

Awen - congratulations on decision!

I am dead chuffed because a small baby equipment shop has apparently just opened up in Aberystwyth (where we're moving) so I don't necessarily have to face scary three hour journey with hyperemesis to Birmingham or Cardiff to look at prams.

I don't know, sideways, I'm very grateful I've managed to stay out of hospital and sorry you had to go in. I think my HG is maybe longer but less severe than some. ?? Bloody awful, whichever way!

Have a nice Sunday, ladies whatever you are doing: painting, assembling furniture, or lying back patting your pumpkins!

mixedmama · 14/10/2007 16:35

Hello ladies,,,, no time to catch up right now.. been off sick all week so will catch up properly tomorrow when back at work (as if i will ever be able to catch up)....

Cazzybaby · 14/10/2007 17:22

Hi All

I havent been on much this week as been busy with my temping job! Also have another UTI - and I am starting to get sick of the taste of Cranberry Juice!!

Hope you are all having a great weekend!

Awen at the new bugaboo, DP is still telling me I cant have one as too much £££, but I am not going to give up!

PinkElephant · 14/10/2007 18:23

Hello all,

Can I start a "pram discussion" as I'm soooo confused about which one to get. I've really fallen for the Icandy cherry - has anyone got this or tried it? Any thoughts before I go and buy it?

sideways · 14/10/2007 18:52

Ooh, I looked at the iCandy Apple and Pear (?) ones the other day and quite liked them. The only problem was that I could hardly lift them even without a baby in, so with a baby I think I might do myself an injury.
