@ShiningStarz we got a lovely lightshade from mamas and papas xx

rocknrosie · 11/06/2020 09:45

does anyone have any recommendations for breast pumps? i've seen a lot of recs online but all seem to be US based x

ShiningStarz · 11/06/2020 09:58

I must have a look
@emma278 :)
Got so much decorating still to do there really is no rush but need a rug and also the lighting! Starting to think about low lighting touch lamp for night time baby changes!!

@rocknrosie good question! The ones I'v seen are so expensive and I kinda want to wait until I'v little one home and I know there are no issues with breast feeding before investing in a pump!

rocknrosie · 11/06/2020 10:05

@ShiningStarz me too! Just curious as it seems so common across the pond and I want my OH to be able to feed too!

ShiningStarz · 11/06/2020 10:06

@rocknrosie I want the same too for DP.
I'v already bought the nipple pads and lanolin cream as well as freezer bags for breast milk. They are all cheap enough! Just waiting for recommendations on pump! I might ask at my next hosp appt.

Sara7455 · 11/06/2020 10:35

@rocknrosie - I want the same for DP but heard that you need to wait at least 6 weeks before you start pumping anyway to let your milk supply regulate else you risk engorgement and that sounds painful. The mam sets look pretty good and I’ve seen lots of informative videos with their midwife but I have no personal experience.

Lazydaisydaydream · 11/06/2020 11:00

Honestly it's so much faff to pump just for OH to feed, and you don't get as much with a pump as a baby does, that I didn't bother unless I physically wouldn't be there to feed him. Instead I would feed and then pass him straight to OH who would burp him and then do skin to skin. Meant we both had our role and both got lots of cuddles and bonding Smile

But I did get a pump for when going out etc and I had a bellababy double pump from amazon. Just a cheap thing but did the job and was really easy to use. Also definitely recommend a haakaa, brilliant just for catching let downs etc which you can save for feeds later, and build up a little freezer stash.

ShiningStarz · 11/06/2020 11:25

Well I ordered the bugaboo changing bag and natural baby shower had an offer with extra 10% off and a free Aden anais swaddle ... hoping it's a unisex swaddle lol

ChipsAreLife · 11/06/2020 12:44

@Sara7455 glad to hear you're ok and being well looked after. Let's hope you can get home soon. The ward is tough and lonely sometimes. Are you managing to talk to the other mum to be?

Re pumping totally agree with @Lazydaisydaydream it's a huge faff! Expressing is my least favourite part of parenthood lol! Get a hakkua to start and build a supply that way. I had a medela but getting the bellababy this time round.

You are all so organised you're putting me to shame. Thus far I've bought ) sleepsuits and some Aden and Anais muslins and swaddles. I don't have loads to buy in fairness but still have things to get and organise! We are just sorting out getting a new car that will fit three car seats, then I need to sort the playroom storage and then I can focus on baby lol!

@ChipsAreLife I’ve not seen any other mums so far, on a bay by myself for the time being as they aren’t rammed and they’re having to put people in private rooms until their covid swab results are back. I’m being checked on so much overnight as well that I imagine it’s easier for other mums to get some sleep if they aren’t being disturbed by my checks.
Sounds like I might get a neighbour or two today (I can hear the midwife office from my bed), but the doctor says they’ll put me back in a private room if I’m going to be here for the long haul.

Lilice · 11/06/2020 14:09

@rocknrosie when I had my first baby (nearly 7 years ago!) I hired one for free from a service recommended by the health visitor. The aim was to try it out before buying. I cant remember the name of the service, and I dont know if they still exist, but maybe your midwife would be able to tell you. The pump was a medala and it was electric. But I'm sure there's newer things now lol

Piper1879 · 11/06/2020 14:15

@Sara7455 pleased you're being well looked after !!

Built my snuz today ... it's just hit me it's all real 😬

Lilice · 11/06/2020 14:21

@Sara7455 thinking of you! I hope you're not too bored. Is you OH able to see you?

I've been meaning to ask because I'm curious if others feel the same: I only feel baby move on one side of my tummy, which is the right. I never feel anything on my left. Last week, I was feeling kicks very down below, which hurt a bit. Now it's back up and on the right only. Anyone else?

WillowT · 11/06/2020 14:52

@Lilice I only feel kicks on the sides never top/bottom. I think this is because I have an anterior placenta. I've got no regular pattern yet either...sometimes really active, other days not much. I got gifted a maternity bracelet that you move each time you feel movement and that's helping me keep better track of movements (albeit not where or when!)

Sara7455 · 11/06/2020 15:09

@Lilice it’s not too bad. OH has brought some bits and pieces in to keep me occupied and there’s WiFi so I have Netflix as an option too. He isn’t allowed on the ward but they let me go just outside the door to collect stuff from him. They were going to let me out for a little walk yesterday but then BP shot back up so they wouldn’t let me go further than the door just in case.

@Piper1879 thanks! Snuzpod is looking great as well!

emma278 · 11/06/2020 15:15

@Lilice i am exactly the same. Almost always right side and sometimes super low down which is an odd feeling! Almost hurts!! Xx

Lazydaisydaydream · 11/06/2020 15:19

I feel all my kicks either at the right side or at the back (on my bowel or cervix). I was convinced baby was head down but had my scan this morning and it's breech so turns out I have no idea what I'm feeling haha.

MooseWL · 11/06/2020 16:17

@lazydaisydream maybe it's arms punching?
Mine are always super low down at the front. Though still not very strong.
If I'm panicking that I haven't felt anything in a while if I lie on my back that always gets a kick within minutes! Don't know whether that's because he doesn't like me being on my back because I know can cause blood flow issues!

ShiningStarz · 11/06/2020 16:20

@Piper1879 snuzpod looks fab!!! I ordered it in dove great, white base but grey fabric. It was dispatched last Monday and I'm
Still waiting!! I don't think I'll
Be in a hurry to set it up tho haha!! Want to wait until I get to 30 weeks!

@Sara7455 I really hope you are ok. Sounds like you are best in the hospital
Where they can keep an eye on you. At home if you are anything like me you'll be tempted to do stuff!! Rest is best xx

I have Everything in boxes and with pram and car seat arriving on fri my spare bedroom is filled with boxes!!
I even went onto Superdrug online and orders all the bepanthen, nipple cream, cotton wool, maternity pads, disposable pants and child's farm products for a few weeks in!! Can you tell
I like to be organised 🤣🤣🤣

ShiningStarz · 11/06/2020 16:28

Most of you will think I'm
Mad but I'm worried I'll
Miss something in babies early development. I know yummy time and the play mat are good as they can see colours shapes and hear music etc. But what about those fabric soft books, I'v seen the very early newborn black and white ones??? At what stage do you introduce stuff like like ?? I even bought a nursery rhyme book cause my partner and I don't know the words to most!! Thought it widhi be nice way to either read baby books / rhymes to little one from as soon as they are home. Mad I know!!!

emma278 · 11/06/2020 16:58

@MooseWL so annoying i had a quiet day 2 days ago, was just sbout to call the midwife then baby woke up about 10pm! They like to keep is on our toes.

Anyone else find the top of their tummy goes hard. Mine does!

Lazydaisydaydream · 11/06/2020 17:04

@ShiningStarz when they are really little they just love looking at your face and having you talk and sing to them. We had one of the black and white books which you could prop up around them while on their mat which was good. But if you want stuff in for baby development have a look at baby sensory type stuff - foil blankets, mirrors, light up balls etc. I got a bag of stuff from rainbowsensorygifts.co.uk which was great.

OrDis · 11/06/2020 17:17

My movements are all over the bump, although mostly still low down. She must be doing constant summersaults lol!

ShiningStarz · 11/06/2020 18:25

@Lazydaisydaydream thanks!!! The luxury bag of items is fab.

Lilice · 11/06/2020 21:39

It's funny how we all feel kicks differently. I also have anterior placenta but surprised I'm still feeling a lot of kicks.
@Lazydaisydaydream I love rainbow sensory gifts, I follow their page on facebook.
@ShiningStarz I've never had the black and white stuff, I just used normal colourful stuff from the beginning. I got books, soft and hard, from early on and reading a book before bed became part of the bedtime routine very quickly. As to nursery rhymes, you could also get a cd for your car. My kids still listen to nursery songs when we drive somewhere. I know them all by heart now lol I've been brainwashed
