Sorry another question for second timers (I feel like such a first-time second-time mum!) - has anyone been told if they're having a 40 week appointment? I just sort of assumed you would by this stage but apparently you don't get one? Round here they only see you on a set day of the week depending on which surgery you are registered with, so I would be 41+4 at my appointment which is the same day the "policy" says you are booked an induction for (planning to ask to go to 42w). Seems a bit Hmm to me... I have an appointment on Tuesday at 38+4 so will ask but feeling a little thrown. My plan not to jump for an induction at 41+4 was based on knowing baby is ok because we'll be kept an eye on in late pregnancy; skipping an appointment just because I've already had one (unhealthy...) baby doesn't fill me with confidence?

umabb · 24/05/2020 22:44

@Magpiefeather @HaichMal are you guys bringing a fitness ball to the hospital ? I mean if you plan to use it for the birth to keep the UFO position.. told by the NCT instructor that it would be a good idea as no such thing in the wards/birthing centres...
And for ladies harvesting colostrums we are bringing it in so babies can have after birth isn't it ? Have no idea but I'm harvesting...
I've got a few nursing tops that can wear in hospital beds if have to stay there longer, in addition to the nighties.

Hi everyone. Sorry for the silence. Baby girl arrived this evening.

@SerBrienneOfHouseTarth was it you asking about inductions? This is my second pregnancy. I had the pessary 1pm yesterday. This morning not much was happening and i was pretty fed up! 12pm my mucus plug fell out, with the pessary. As i was 3cm dilated they said they would break my waters. Had to wait for the ward to be ready. Waters were broken around 6 and she arrived 90 mins later!!! I hope this is a positive story for you. The contractions were pretty intense compared to last time but managed on gas and air. I asked for an epidural before realising her head was crowning 😂😂 3 pushes and there she was!

No name yet but a healthy 9lbs.

Congratulations!! Sounds pretty quick in the end. Im sure baby is gorgeous.

So crampy and can't sleep. Hoping iron tablets I start in the next couple of days might help. Even when I sleep, still having intense dreams and not feeling fully rested. Naps in the day are helping tho - I don't dream in them. Still worried about size of bump. A woman bump shamed me in the park today and made me worry more "a whole month left still?!" as if she couldn't imagine how humongous I will be.

Magpiefeather · 25/05/2020 03:18

Ugh why do people do that @peetieswie??? So sorry you had to meet such a thoughtless fool. I’m sure you are just the right size you need to be!

@AndddddHerewegoagain congratulations! How are you feeling? Hope you are recovering well. Sending all the best to you and your new baby.

Magpiefeather · 25/05/2020 03:25

@umabb yes I think I will take some colostrum with me, haven’t got any out yet but fingers crossed.

Not planning to take birthing ball. I think I assumed the birth centre would have one? I will check.

Oh actually forgot on my list I am taking my breastfeeding pillow. Didn’t last time and regretted it. It’s so useful to get baby in a good comfortable position.

@BirdGarden yes round here too second timers don’t get a 40 week appointment as standard. No idea why, seems non sensical to me. Going to ask if I will get one anyway. Wasn’t technically supposed to have a 24 week one but my midwife let me for reassurance. Also a bit like yours, midwife is only at my gp surergy every other Friday.... on her day she is there I’d be 39+5 and then 41+5... maybe I can travel to one of their other clinics somewhere else in the county to be closer to 41 weeks. Will ask at next appointment.

AndddddHerewegoagain · 25/05/2020 04:17

Not going to lie. Feel like I've been hit by a bus 😂
But she's here and utterly perfect. I stink of gas and air, she is yet to sleep more than 20 mins so I am running on fumes as I've been awake since 730am. I won't get a break today when we get home to the toddler though I can't wait. This is the longest I've ever been away from him. Can't wait to cuddle him later.

@andddddherewegoagain I'm so pleased for you! Huge congratulations. I hope you've managed a bit more sleep overnight. So glad she's here and healthy. ❤

newbyxx · 25/05/2020 05:33

@AndddddHerewegoagain congratulations what a good weight! Xx

Missgemini · 25/05/2020 05:35

@AndddddHerewegoagain So so happy for you! Amazing news! I hope you get some rest soon :) xx

Gigitree · 25/05/2020 05:37

@AndddddHerewegoagain Ahhh congratulations! Sounds like things went very quickly in the end! Always nice to hear a positive induction story! Well done to you! ❤️

Busylizzie85 · 25/05/2020 05:58

Congratulations @AndddddHerewegoagain 💓

MissisBee · 25/05/2020 07:17

Congratulations @AndddddHerewegoagain
Glad it all went well and hope you manage to get some rest.

@umabb I'm planning to bring at least some of my colostrum in with me (depends how much I manage to get). I've ice blocks in the freezer beside the box where I'm keeping it and a small cool bag handy. DH has named it the "colostrumy bag" 🤦🙄🤣

Magpie21 · 25/05/2020 07:22

@AndddddHerewegoagain Congratulations! Lovely news! ☺️

Pegase · 25/05/2020 07:23

Congratulations @AndddddHerewegoagain that's great that the pessary worked and was nice and quick!

@umabb my hospital provides birthing balls. I used one last time. Not taking my bf pillow as too paranoid about the virus and having to wash it as soon as I get back from hospital Confused

Ginfilledcats · 25/05/2020 07:39

Congratulations @AndddddHerewegoagain how wonderful!!

Are you still in hosp? When will you be discharged?

I'm 37+6 and have had a super active baby the last 2 days feel like I have an alien squirming about. Love it though as often have quiet and worrying days. But finding that I feel quite sick again and now have acid reflux and SPD which has just come on! Had a scan at 37+2 and baby is head down but not engaged! Just want her here safe and sound and SOON!

I haven't managed to harvest any colostrum, is everyone else able to? Not that I have anyway of storing it if I was successful mind!

Millettmum · 25/05/2020 08:00

@AndddddHerewegoagain
Congratulations! How long do you have to stay in? My midwife said it'll be 24-48 hours because of the GD to test baby's blood sugars but a friend of mine said hers only need to good readings.

Magpiefeather · 25/05/2020 08:07

I didn’t think of that @Pegase! Maybe I will put it inside another pillowcase or something so I can easily wash it when I get home

Gigitree · 25/05/2020 08:11

@Ginfilledcats I’ve only been able to get out a little dribble when I’ve given them a little squeeze. I’m not planning on storing any of it either. But I’m only 35+6 so I don’t want to give it a proper go for a week at least, just in case it does trigger early labour.

Girlinajumpsuit · 25/05/2020 08:13

@AndddddHerewegoagain congratulations that is amazing news! Glad the induction was nice and quick top, I've heard about them going on for days.

@Ginfilledcats I havent harvested any colostrum. The midwife didnt mention it to me and i figured it was another thing to stress about. Also not done the perineal massage so already feeling a little guilty, but have been practising my hypnobirthing daily so at least that's one thing ticked off the list!

Blizy · 25/05/2020 08:46

@AndddddHerewegoagain congratulations!

AndddddHerewegoagain · 25/05/2020 08:56

Thanks everyone.

@Millettmum she's had 2 glucose tests and has passed so just waiting for the dr to discharge us. No hanging around here!!

Congratulations @AndddddHerewegoagain !!! So happy for your fairly quick induction experience and DD is healthy and now with you and going home! So lucky not to need a section in the end too especially with your toddler waiting at home Smile

Enjoy those cuddles from both your DD and DS!

SerBrienneOfHouseTarth · 25/05/2020 09:09

Congratulations @AndddddHerewegoagain and thanks for sharing your induction story! I definitely feel more positive about possibly getting induced now.

@Girlinajumpsuit don't feel guilty! I haven't harvested colostrum, massaged my perineum or attended any kind of class and I don't own a birth ball! In fact, I haven't done anything beyond attending my MW and hospital appointments! I didn't do any of it last time either, with the exception of hypnobirthing (which didn't help me personally). There's no right or wrong, just go with what works for you xx

umabb · 25/05/2020 09:13

Ahhhhh @AndddddHerewegoagain awesome news ! 9lbs she's a big girl! You did so well xx

I'll double check if hospital has birthing balls when I next go in but the NCT lady sounded that she knows local hospitals well. Hopefully not have bring mine in so one thing less to worry.

The little person was restless last night until 4am just moving and kicking the whole time. Finally calmed after an episode hiccups so then I got to sleep 🤪
