Tessiebear - just read your questions about hair dye. In a book I was reading it said that highlighting had been proved to be of any risk in pregnancy. Thought you might like to know.
I'm still chuckling about the Pedigree Chum - while simultaneously feeling nauseous!

LipstickMum · 04/11/2004 12:04

Hi all Glad you've stopped panicking about the foils Tessie, I have too. Rationalised that it didn't go on my scalp and I don't have too many, so it will be fine. But I did start getting some cramps later in the evening and began to think "uh oh!!!". Mad.

Am going to aim for spaghetti tonight, my head tells me I can cope with it, we'll see what my stomach says later!

WelshMum, you'll worry over the next couple of weeks anyway, that's understandable, so I wont bother saying "don't worry". Will be keeping fingers crossed for you that all keeps going smoothly and we can all head on into bump-dom together!!!

Tessiebear · 04/11/2004 14:43

Just thought - has anyone heard from Cobweb - dont think i have seen her in the last day or so -are you around Cobbers???????
Miss Tuesday - have just followed your idea and tried to work out what it was in the dog food that i craved - worked out it was MEAT - the thought of a juicy burger makes me salivate (i made do with a chicken tikka sandwich and felt brilliant for about 20 mins!!!)
Welshmum - fingers and everything else tightly crossed for you - i am sure you will get through these next few weeks fine

welshmum · 04/11/2004 14:45

Thanks Lipstick and Tessie - I'll do my best not to flip out!

MrsWednesday · 04/11/2004 15:30

We're here to listen if you do want to flip out welshmum - it's hard because when there aren't many people who know, there aren't many people to listen when you are feeling stressed.

I've just got back from a meeting - have been in the car with my boss for five hours, which is an awful long time to try and hold in the urge to fart!!!!

welshmum · 04/11/2004 15:32

Lol Mrs Wednesday. I went for a massage on Tuesday night and spent the whole hour and a bit with very tight buttocks as the rest of me relaxed!
This is exactly the sort of conversation that's going to take my mind off the next couple of weeks - thanks goodness for mumsnet and you ladies imparticular

MrsWednesday · 04/11/2004 16:24

Am sniggering at that thought welshmum, doesn't sound very relaxing.

LipstickMum · 04/11/2004 18:36

Evening you Farty lot I'm in the same boat too and keep hoping that one of them will finally deflate my poor tummy, because I refuse to believe it's 'baby' already!!

Have a question, which I suspect we have covered already..? I keep wanting to tell everyone just want to tell, tell, tell!! How many people have you told, if anyone?

I have told 2 good friends and my SIL. That's it so far, 7 weeks tomorrow.

katzguk · 04/11/2004 18:50

evening all,

well have not thrown up today so think the medication has fianlly started working yeah!!! just can't wait until next weekt o check that everythings okay at the scan.

GP has said i can't fly to the states next month, well she agreed that would not be wise when i'm struggling to not be sick just lying on the sofa the added motoin of the plane would be just tooo much!! so have to phone insurance company and cancel.

what a lot of strange cravings going round!! right now i only crave food i know won't be horrid to throw back up!!

GeorgesMummy · 04/11/2004 19:13

I'm Glad the medication is working Katzguk. I'm 7 weeks + 2 and have felt fine up until today when the nausea has really kicked in, damn I thought I would be nausea free this pregnancy! I was sick for the whole 9 months with DS1, I hope it isn't the same this time. Although if this baby is half as adorable as my DS 13 months then I am prepared to put up with the sickness.

LipstickMum, we have only told our parents at the moment and 2 close friends but I am dying to explain my sudden weight gain and pale complexion to everyone as I'm sure people are starting to notice something is different about me! I'm due to have a scan next week as I am unsure of my dates (could be 7 weeks or could be 11) so I am going to tell everyone if all is ok at the scan. I don't know why I am being so cautious this time though as the whole world knew practically as soon as I did with DS1, at about 5 weeks!! I guess nieavity was the reason for this as now I know how complex pregnancy is I'm not taking anything for granted.

Cobweb · 04/11/2004 20:40

Tessiebear Cobbers is back. I have been so ill with sickness and started working again so life in the house has been hectic.

I can honestly say that I feel sick all day and just feed it to try and take it away which doesn't work.

I am 9 weeks and 5 days and OMG my stomach is huge and I can not hide it anymore. Haven't told the agency I am temping for yet but the people I am working for must think I am a right fat heffa or they have guessed but haven't said anything for the is she or isn't she issue.

Going to tell my brother and family at the weekend as I think I owe them an explanation for being so moody and sicky lately.

How is everyone and when is this sickness going to end????

Thanks for thinking of me Tessiebear hugs

Off now to watch the end of The Bill I have a crush on Sgt Smithy and it certainly makes me feel better when he is on screen LOL.

Speak tomorrow girls.

and

take care........no Pedigree Chum Tessiebear (that cracked me up)xxx

Cobweb · 04/11/2004 20:41

p.s. does anyone know anything about the maternity grant. Someone mentioned £250 for new babies or £500 if you are on benefits (I'm not) just wondered if anyone knew the facts xxx

megi · 05/11/2004 07:54

Hi all - my day off today - but the bathroom is STILL being done so I wont be able to properly relax. Never mind!

We have told close family and a couple of very close friends. I just can't keep it in.

sweetheart · 05/11/2004 08:35

Morning everyone!!! You lot do make me chuckle!!!

I love the farting stories - more please, it's making me feel a WHOLE lot better about my excess wind problem

Tessiebear - Don't do it - please!!!!!! I know the dog food probably smells really nice but please don't eat it!!! YUK!!! When I was a child my next door neighbour used to eat his poodles dog biscuit - how gross!!!!!

Cobweb - I don't know anything about the £250 but would be very interested to know if we can expect a nice little bonus like that!!!

I'm so impressed that you've all been so restrained!!! I can't keep my mouth shut and we have told pretty much everyone (even though I'm only 6Wk +1) Everyone knew we were ttc and it's really hard to tell an out-right lie when everyone is asking you. A couple of our friends even had the dates my periods were due written in their diarys!!!!!

sweetheart · 05/11/2004 08:45

Cobweb - try this. It looks like you have to be on benefits to get the grant. We get a small amount of working family tax credit but I think you have to have a disabled person on the claim to qualify.

maternity grant information

muddaofsuburbia · 05/11/2004 08:54

Morning everyone!

Went to the Watford/Barnet etc evening Mumsnet meetup last night, fully expecting everyone to know I was preg, but only one did (and I'd told her already!). No-one seems to read the preggy threads unless they're pg, so our secret's safe on MN at least!!

My family know - it was just meant to be my parents and grandparents, but my gran can't keep quiet so now my whole extended family know! No friends in RL know (unless they're snooping here without telling me!) and we'll wait til we move away - even then I'll only be 10 weeks.

Managed some of 3 courses last night - goodness knows how - had cinnamon ice cream which was deeeelicious

Glad to hear everyone's upbeat even if groggy.

Not heard about this maternity grant thing? Where did you find out Cobweb?

muddaofsuburbia · 05/11/2004 08:54

Posts crossed - thanks SH

Tessiebear · 05/11/2004 10:13

LOL - at the farting stories!!!!
Cobbers glad you are back ((((hugs)))) to you too - sounds like we need them right now.
Felt soooo sick today driving back from the school run. Told DH it felt like a rollercoaster ride (he said that was just my driving!)
Katz - so glad the tablets are working at last!.
Re - telling people - DH thinks i havnt told anyone (because we have decided to keep it a secret till Xmas) but i have actually told my sister and 2 good friends - a girl has to tell someone
Basically we are (all being well) going to put my scan photo (which should happen a couple of weeks before xmas) into a card. We are going to give it to my parents with their xmas prezzies and say "i am afraid this present wont be delivered for another 6 months but we have got a picture of what it will look like..." THis is as long as i can conceal it until then as i am v. close to my mum and see her most days! She is also a receptionist at my GP's surgery - so there has been a secret visit to the GP (who has been sworn to secrecy and has not put anything in my notes!) when my mum had a day off!!!

Tessiebear · 05/11/2004 10:15

p.s - i feel sooooo happy when i am eating!!!!! this effect lasts for about half hour then its back to nausea again. Temptation to eat constantly is strong!

sweetheart · 05/11/2004 10:27

Tessiebear - crikey - the stress of it all!!!!

It's a lovely idea though!!! We thought of doing something similar but I just couldn't wait that long to tell everyone - especially with being asked all the time.

Good luck keeping it a secret from your mum

Tessiebear · 05/11/2004 10:31

Sweetheart - as we already have 2 DS's everyone thinks we are automatically stopping at two and havnt really considered the fact that we want/have been trying, for another one! (so noone is on the lookout for symptoms IYKWIM!)

sweetheart · 05/11/2004 10:53

arrgghhh, it will be a lovely surprise for them all

LipstickMum · 05/11/2004 13:20

Wow, we're quiet today!! I'm off for the weekend, see you all on Sunday waves

Scraggyaggy · 05/11/2004 14:03

Hi everyone!

I'm expecting my first baby in June, so was hoping I could join the "June Club". It's so nice to read your stories and see that I am not a complete freak and having all this gas and air is a perfectly normal "side-effect" of such a wonderful experience!! Mind you, I only get it in the middle of the night and then I have to stay up massaging my tum for twenty minutes before I can get back to sleep. So, I am bloody shattered!

We're going home this weekend to tell my mum as I am so fed up trying to understand all this on my own. I'd just like a bit of re-assurance and then my other half will hopefully be relieved of his duties of full-time carer to the banshee from hell!! Talk about moods, I don't know if I'm coming or going. Are you guys like that?

Reading the books don't help either. Apparently, you not supposed to see any physical change til after the first trimester. Hmph, not if you look at my waist (or non-existent waist!!)

As for the nausea, mine has kind of relented in the last 2/3 days and I'm just over 7 weeks, so this is probably the calm before the storm and I'll be throwing up by the middle of next week!

Has anyone bought anything for "baby" yet? Or are you holding out for the scan? I keep wandering round Mothercare desparate to buy just a little ickle something....

Have a nice weekend all.

Twiga · 05/11/2004 17:17

Hey, just nipping across from the tcc thread to see how everyone's doing. Best wishes to you all {{{hug}}} x
