hi ive recieved appointment for first scan on 16th nov im only five and half weeks now,is this normal? any ideas any1 xxx

Tessiebear · 27/10/2004 18:52

Binatracey - however much you have wanted to get pregnant it still comes as a shock to the system when it all starts to "kick off". Even with my 2rd pg i have suddenly got this feeling of "shit what have i done"! Even though it is a much wanted pregnancy. My friend describes the feeling as like a cold sweat that comes over you once the excitement of getting your BFP has faded and the reality of all that is ahead of you sets in. It will pass - promise! With my DS's pregnancies there was a kind of 2 week rule - you get your BFP on week 4 - feel normal for 2 weeks and then at about 6 weeks - bam it hits you - big time tired/ sick etc - or you might be lucky! 16th Nov does seem early for a scan - that will be about 9 weeks wont it - i think some hospitals (correct me anyone if i am wrong) do a scan at 9 weeks and then the usual one at 12

Tessiebear · 27/10/2004 18:54

that should say with my 3rd pregnancy

welshmum · 27/10/2004 19:04

Evening all - congrats to sweetheart and a big welcome to you.
I haven't got on here all day as we've been out and about being a very busy mummy and daughter.
Feel like I've missed out on all the chat - oh well back in the office sitting on my expanding bottom tomorrow so I'll catch up then x

Tessiebear · 27/10/2004 19:52

Evening Welshmum - ive only been home a while too - took DS's to Pizza Hut and then to see Sharks Tale - was quite good but not as good as Nemo IMO

LipstickMum · 27/10/2004 22:50

Hi everyone, Our computer has been very sick, so we've been off air for a couple of days

VERY glad to hear that your scan went well Mrs W, that's brilliant news

Welcome to sweetheart, a name I know from the ttc11 thread, hurray, you made it!!!

Did I hear someone say a due in July thread has been started?? I must have a peek to see who is on it...

I have been feeling sick for the last couple of days (6 weeks on Friday). Have been trying to eat all day, pretty easy as I'm STARVING 24/7! Having a more or less continuous food supply keeps the real nausea just bubbling under the surface. But I am really going off things, like the smell of rooibosh tea, and have a real heightened sense of smell. Am also very 'farty' and feel full of wind in my tummy, it's very awkward!! I certainly LOOK about 12 weeks pregnant, even tho I'm not.

I am off to the docs at 8 weeks and then hopefully will have a scan at about 9-10 weeks fingers crossed In the mean time I'm trying not to worry about 'what might' happen.

I've been very impressed and moved by what some of you have said about the early stages of pregnancy, how one can feel etc. and i'm very glad to be in the company of such lovely, wise women!

katzguk · 28/10/2004 09:08

well have finally caved to the sickness and am going to see GP today, ended up coming hoemf rom work at about 11 yesterday because felt dizzy and faint. Still throwing up excessively so have made an appointment for 10.30 and hopefully they will be able to help!

welshmum · 28/10/2004 09:11

Oh poor you katzguk - I hope they can help you - have you thought anymore about the acupuncture?

megi · 28/10/2004 09:12

Oh God, I am struggling a bit at the moment! Am on half term, so really, I should be relaxing and making the most of it (well as much as I can with a three year old who thinks I am her personal slave!)BUT, we are having a new bathroom fitted and there is so much drilling and noise all day long - can't take much more! The water keeps getting turned off and as we only have one toilet, it makes it very tricky - especially the amount I need to go! - Luckily I have a great neighbour!
Also, to avoid disturbing the builder, dd is using the potty but throwing the contents of that away makes we want to chunder - the plaster / building smell is also making me feel even worse - I can't believe I am thinking this, but in a way, it would be easier at school with a class of six year olds to look after!

Oh....to a nice new pristine bathroom!

Migraine all gone today.

welshmum · 28/10/2004 09:18

Megi, I so sympathise with potty emptying. I found myself at the foot our stairs last night with a potty full of poo in one hand and dd's cup of milk in the other, and dd trying to get upstairs past dh's stuff he'd dumped there. I was calling out to DH to come and help me and he was arsing around upstairs trying to 'get his shoe off' I so wanted to throw up I nearly hit him round the head with his bloody shoe.

Earlybird · 28/10/2004 09:23

Weshlmum - just noticed that you've been posting on this thread, and wanted to let you know how excited I am for you! Congratulations! It's fantastic news!

megi · 28/10/2004 09:24

men.....they just don't understand do they? - Feel a bit better though! Postie has just arrived and I have my scan date - 26th Nov! Yippeeeeeee!
Oh God, I need another wee...off to the neighbours.

On thanks Earlybird - that's very kind of you. It's pretty early - had the last m/c at 12 weeks so still have some way to go before I feel anything like settled. Am trying to 'travel hopefully' but I haven't told many people in RL so MN is a bit of a godsend. And if it goes wrong I'll have some people here to talk to - fingers crossed though. Thanks for your kind words I appreciate them - especially knowing where you're coming from.

Earlybird · 28/10/2004 09:37

Welshmum - well, I shall keep on eye on this thread and hope to share your experience vicariously. Sending all good thoughts that everything is straightforward and easy this time. Is your body starting to feel like the early stages of a scientific experiment yet? It's such an odd feeling when your body starts doing completely unfamiliar things!

binatracy · 28/10/2004 09:49

thanks tessiebear that was really helpful
well ive just rang midwife to see date ok to scan as only 8 to 9 weeks then and they said its fine, they were really nice(i felt bit thick!!)
hope everyone ok xxx

welshmum · 28/10/2004 09:56

That's exactly how it feels. I'm already not at all comfortable in my jeans and will have to buy some new trousers today or I'll have no weekend wear! I seem to have got the hang of managing the nausea now - it's not too bad if I eat, sleep and don't stand at the bottom of the stairs with poo filled potties!

LipstickMum · 28/10/2004 10:50

I'm glad to hear everyone is starting to feel really sick

I think I am just going to have nausea again this time and not much throwing up, which I suppose is easier to disguise than chundering in the bathroom

Am feeling pretty tired already, might be time to go and sleep on the sofa while dd is having her nap.

How is everyone else?

MrsWednesday · 28/10/2004 11:24

Thanks Lipstickmum .

I'm sooooooooooo tired. Waking up in the night all the time to go to the loo is starting to take its toll. Apart from that, not too much sickness here. Boobs are absolute agony though (which I'm really glad about - it's reassuring for me to have such an obvious symptom after last time).

How did you get on at the doctors Katzguk?

Megi, you have my sympathy about the bathroom. We had ours done (at the same time as the kitchen!!!) last year and it was a complete nightmare. Just think how nice it will be when it's done though...

Can I ask, is anyone intending to have the nuchal scan? I'm in two minds about what to do. I'd have to pay - £185 here - is it the same everywhere else?

Uwila · 28/10/2004 11:29

Yep, nuchal scan for me. I'm booked for the 19th Nov. at Fetal Medicine Centre. Cost is £130 for the scan and the blood test.

welshmum · 28/10/2004 11:33

I'm seeing the GP tomorrow for the first time so will book in for mine then. I don't have to pay though.....

LipstickMum · 28/10/2004 11:34

I am intending to have the nuchal scan Mrs W. Where I am the only scan we're entitled to as far as I know (unless we ask for a dating scan) is the 20 scan A bit too late to allay fears etc.

Last time we had the nuchal, £100 with the combined blood test £85 (or perhaps prices the other way round, either way it seems to be the same everywhere). Obviously, that comes down to money unfortunately. I do intend on having it this time round because I have not insisted on a dating scan like last time. In the end I had my dating scan at 9 weeks and nuchal at 11!

I am managing to keep nausea at bay with crackers and earl grey, but I must get some de-caff!!!

MrsWednesday · 28/10/2004 11:40

I have to say I'm tempted to have it. I don't get my next scan until 14 weeks, and would like another one before then. I didn't have it with my DS, didn't have any tests in fact, so I can imagine it's a very nervous time waiting for results. Or do they give them to you instantly?

LipstickMum · 28/10/2004 11:45

If you only ask for the scan, they can work out your results there and then. At least, they told us while we were having the scan. We then said we were also having blood tests and the sonogropher said we would be sent the results for that.

May I ask why you're having another scan at 14 weeks? Are you just being checked regularly because of last time? Or are your health authority just incredibly generous, unlike mine

MrsWednesday · 28/10/2004 12:08

The 14 week one is supposed to be the 12 week one - until recently, I thought this was standard for most places, but apparently not. I paid for the 7 week one, just for peace of mind. Not peace of bank balance though - this reassurance is going to cost me a fortune!

I can't believe you only get the one, that's just ridiculous. It's far too long to wait. Would you have to pay if you asked for a dating scan then? Sorry, full of questions today!
