I didn't have to pay for my dating scan luckily, just had to plead ignorance about my cycle

So, you have a 12 and 20 weeks scan? That sounds about ideal.

Have managed to force down some lunch (soup), but just feel generally shit and don't fancy eating anything!

Going out for the afternoon, see you ladies later waves

Uwila · 28/10/2004 13:52

An advantage of the nuchal scan is that they can give you a pretty accurate date (more accurate than at the 20 week scan). An last time I was pregnant, the woman at the 20 week scan reajdusted my date one week later. And, then I went overdue, and no one would listen that I actually thought I was 2 weeks overdue and alll the midwives could say is "well, it says her..." So, thenI started reading on the internet that the placental could start to deteriorate, and I was awfully worried about the whole thing. It was no fun. So, this time, I thought right, I'm getting an official date early on.

megi · 28/10/2004 13:55

I will have a scan at 12 and 20 weeks. If I want an early viability scan I will have to pay £100. Still not sure - my 12 week scan arrived today - for four weeks time - I suppose it is not that long, but I would rather know now if there was something wrong.

Uwila · 28/10/2004 14:10

It's probably worth bearing in mind that some things aren't detectable until a later. Like the nuchal can only be performed between 11 wks +3 and 13 weeks +6. So,I'm not sure if going earlier will help you determine BDs. But, dating would be a bit more accurate.

Personally, when DD was 2 weeks overdue, I would have paid a lot more than £100 to know the date for sure... but then not everyone goes two weeks overdue and freaks out. If I could go back I would demand to see the consultant earlier. But, I just followed the advice of the midwives and acted like a dumb sheep.

But, not this time...

Hi ladies,

Just been catching up with all the news hugs

I was at the NTA's in London on Tuesday and didn't get back till this morning as we decided to spend a few days there.

Since being in London i have started to feel sick all day.

Last night was the worst and although have not actually been physically sick I feel it all the time and I have a horrid metallic taste in my mouth.

Because I never suffered before, is this normal with the taste in my mouth and everything???

I am so tired all the time and my boobs are incredibly sore, like nothing before.

Thanks for all the nuchal scan information. I had one with DS No. 2 and think I would like one again. Will have to ask the Midwife the procedure in my area as I have only been here a couple of years and my previous pregnancy were in a completely different county.

Love Cobweb xxx

welshmum · 28/10/2004 14:24

Hi Cobweb, I had the metallic taste thing too - all normal I'm told - it only lasted a couple of days though - I was lucky - you might be too. Fingers crossed

I mainly wanted an early scan just to see a heartbeat - my sil recently suffered a missed miscarriage - and it was horrendous for her...bit I know that just because a heartbeat is present at this early stage you are not out of the woods!

I think that there can always be a margin of error with dating scans - however early they are performed, although I know they are supposed to be more accurate the earlier they are done. - I had a 12 week scan in my last pregnancy and I was 100% sure of the date of my last period and the date of conception. - I KNEW I was exactly 12 weeks but they insisted that I was only 10 weeks, so my due date got put back two weeks. My dd then arrived 3 weeks early (according to scan dates) or 1 week early according to my dates. - .. I am going to be a lot more prepared this time!

sorry! That should read .."but I know that just because a heartbeat is present"..

well back from the Dr's have been given some medication to stop the nasusea but waiting for my GP friend to read it up in her book!! have had bloods taken to check irons and electrolite levels just to see if i'm dehydrated. and have been told to take a week off of work to rest and give the tablets a chance to work.

On the scan front here we get a 10 weeks dating scan and a 20 week abnormality scan

LipstickMum · 28/10/2004 17:42

Really glad to hear you have done something about your m/s Katz, ESPECIALLY taking time off work, it's so important to look after yourself at this satge, I think we probably do it a little less than we should!

Was going to say something, but have completly forgotten what... i'll come back later.

Tessiebear · 28/10/2004 18:37

Evening all! Been out all day with the boys -quite tired now -i seem to feel a little bit sick mid afternoon - then nothing - keep kidding myself that this is as bad as it will get
Went to fill in the forms for the midwife at gps surgery this evening - does anyone know when you see the midwife first ?? is it 8 weeks? How quickly i forget!!
Uwilla - i know what you mean about the midwifes - first time round you go along with WHATEVER they say - next time round - YOU call the shots!!!! Third time - whats a midwife ? (only joking - cant wait to go and see them!)
Hope you are all feeling ok (glad you have something for the sickness Katz)
TessX BTW Cobweb - i got the metalic taste for weeks...

LipstickMum · 28/10/2004 18:55

Tess, I think seeing the midwife all depends on your surgery. My surgery likes your first 'booking' appt to be with the doctor and then you can carry on seeing the midwife. When you make that appt seems to be down to you. So, I probably wont see a midwife until 6 weeks after my initial appt with GP, iykwim..?

Cobweb · 28/10/2004 20:07

Thanks for all your answers girls. I have felt sick all day and the only way I could control the nausea is by sucking fruit drops

I am seeing my midwife next Friday and by then I think I will be 9 weeks. When do they do all the blood tests and whatnot?

I had a scan last week but still want all the normal scans and a nuchal scan.

MaxN21 · 29/10/2004 08:54

Met in December 2003, Married August 2004, Baby due June 2005. Fast Living !
First baby (first husband too). Stumbled across this site and very informative. Going to chase up the midwife today, feel left up in the air by the Dr with no real guidance. 7 weeks and belly very noticeable.

sweetheart · 29/10/2004 09:23

morning all,

binatracy - I know exactly what you mean re:- being scared. I didn't find out I was preg until 12 weeks with my 1st so I had none of this worrying time. I'm really worrying about the pains I've been having in my stomach and my doctors appointment isn't until next Wednesday.

Cobweb - I'm soooo of you going to the NTA's!!!! Did you meet Ant and Dec - Oohhhhhhh I love them so much!!! Esp Dec - I'd like to have HIS babies!!!!!!

Anyway, still no sickness or anything here. I'm 5 weeks +1 today and am sort of wishing the ms woluld arrive so I know everything is OK!!!!!

I bet I won't be saying that in 2 weeks.

welshmum · 29/10/2004 09:27

Hello Maxn21 - glad you found mumsnet.
Morning all - hope you're all feeling ok this morning. I've taken a day off work so I can spend a couple of hours with dd in nursery, go to my first antenatal appointment with the gp and generally get ready for visitors we've got coming this weekend. I'm pretty excited as it's my brother and his missus and I'll be able to tell them - I'm hoping they might have something to tell me too - I know they're trying and they did arrange this weekend visit in a bit of a rush.....fingers crossed

muddaofsuburbia · 29/10/2004 09:45

Hi girls!

Feeling ok this morning so far - I'm hoping I'll be able to eat a proper breakfast instead of a rubbishy cereal bar. I can't wait til 12 weeks when the real bump starts showing. I'm still at that filling out and feeling fat stage. I had to move into maternity clothes at 15 wks with ds which I thought was a bit early - I guess it could've been chocolate rather than baby though Although I'm only just 5 ft so a big baby really filled me out.

Hi to Maxn21 and welcome!

Cobweb · 29/10/2004 10:29

Sweetheart although I didn't meet Ant and Dec in person I saw them heaps on the red carpet and obviously on stage

I did meet Suranna Jones (Karen McDonald) and the black CID officer and Gary from The Bill

My favourite character is Dennis Rickman (Nigel Harman) who looked just a dishy in real life as on the TV, it was a shame he was robbed of his award.

MS has been mild this morning fingers crossed had a cracker when I woke up and then some cereal. Just a had biscuit. At this rate I am going to put on stones by the time I am due

Feel so fat already and have nothing to wear. My friend recommended Dorothy Perkins for reasonable maternity wear, so I might check that out tomorrow.

Good to see you all this morning xxx

LipstickMum · 29/10/2004 10:47

Hello girls,

Thank GOd it's Friday even though I don't work, it still has the same appeal!!

Woke up feeling not so sick today (6 wks), yesterday was all day mostly. I am ALWAYS hungry though, every 2 hours I feel hunger pangs and of course I panic because
a) if i get too hungry I feel sick/er
b) I have to to try and think about what I can actually stomach!

I think I'm quite lucky that I can eat fairly plain foods, well think about them at least.

Welcome Max, you are a fast worker! I thought I was pretty fast meeting my dp, although we did wait b4 we had kids. This is a great thread, when in June are you due?

I hope your brother does have good news too Welshmum, will be nice to have cousins the same age. But, what if he doesn't and you know they're ttc? Might be awkward? Will you still tell? I'm sure they'll be happy for you anyway!

Mudda I am at the 'just looking fat' stage too and since I'm quite slim normally, it looks a bit telling with my tummy sticking out like I'm 12 wks gone, sheesh!

sweetheart · 29/10/2004 10:48

Cobweb - I'm so so so so so so !!!!!!!!

How come you bagged a ticket to that anyway? Do you work in TV?????

Been looking at nursery furniture on the net this morning (early days I know, but I just couldn't resist)

There is a place called kiddie care in Peterborough which looks really good. It's about 2.5 hours away from me though. Does anyonw live near - or has anyone ever been. Is it worth the journey????

LipstickMum · 29/10/2004 11:10

I can't remember Sweetheart, is this your first??

Cobweb · 29/10/2004 11:12

Sweetheart the tickets went on sale through the Royal Albert Hall and get this, they were only £8 per ticket. People are so shocked when I tell them and like you thought I had an inside source to get a ticket.

There were even spare seats at the RAH such a shame as it was a brilliant night and excellent atmosphere. You will have to get a ticket for next year.

I have started looking at baby sites as its so tempting to look at all the new products and clothes they do now.

Sweetheart is this your first?

LipstickMum · 29/10/2004 11:14

I know I have already looked at maternity wear sites, God!

megi · 29/10/2004 11:17

I have never been to the actual kiddi care shop but I use their internet site quite a lot for dd - they are so reasonable - especially for stuff like car seats!
