A nice new little thread for Skidoodle and anyone else who needs it.....

hi everyone, hope you're all enjoying the bank holiday. I see the weather is nice in the South East of England, so maybe some of you are out in the sunshine.

turtle - sorry to hear you're having a rough time . It really sounds like your husband is having a bit of a freak out about the baby. His behaviour must be very hurtful, but I'm sure it's all to do with his own reactions to something that probably feels totally out of his control, even out of his remit entirely iyswim.

my DH was very uninterested in the whole thing until very recently (when we had a bit of a "chat" about it). His attitude was that there was nothing to get excited about yet! If you can find a quiet time for you two to have a proper talk about how you're both feeling it might help. I know men (well my DH anyway) can be resistant to that kind of talking, but it sounds like you both need it. i'm sure he'll get excited about it all in his own time.

I am in great form this weekend for several reasons

  1. I have felt pretty much normal for 4 (4!) days in a row. not assuming the MS is gone, but so far so good
  2. I went on a sailing course yesterday and saturday and it was awesome
  3. I finally got my scan date, which is 5th September, when I'll be 13 weeks. I can't wait.
turtle23 · 27/08/2007 19:02

Thanks to all for the sympathy and advice. Did have a proper chat about it, and he's still being a bit off. Ho hum, will have to wait to see if the scan might bring it home a bit.
Had a lovely sunny weekend though...happy thoughts to you all!

3madboys · 27/08/2007 19:19

hello all ((((hugs))) to those who have been upset by annoying partners or insensitive comments from relatives.

i am 13kws and 3 days? now i think and starting (fingers crossed) to feel a little less sick, still getting horrible headaches tho

we have told the boys now and they are all excited, well ds2 is very excited, ds1 loved the scan and was amazed at how 'real' the baby looked, he is not keen on having another sibling to break his lego models tho.

ds3 'talks' into my belly button

we have told family etc now, my mil is actually very excited however other relatives have been very annoying, my mum was like "oh no, what does dp think? does he mind?" ffs and if i get one more comment about how we must be "hoping for a girl" or "hope you are lucky and get a girl" aghhhhhhhhhh all i want is a healthy baby, I DO NOT CARE WHAT SEX IT IS, and the constant comments on it are making me mad.

we even had one relative say "dont be too disappointed or upset if its another boy" why would i possibly be upset? for christ sake some people are so rude.

sorry bit of a rant there, can you tell they are bugging me?

tori32 · 27/08/2007 19:36

Hi all, just checking in to see if you've all enjoyed the bank hols. Had great weather in the SW, took DD to Monkey World with DH aunt and uncle so I am also on fine form. Oooh and DH gave me a long lie in until 1100!

turtle- good look with the scan, I'm sure it should make things more real for your DH and you obviously. I still don't feel pregnant as still in same old clothes, no morning sickness and even the extreme hungar seems to have left me! Getting booked in with MW on weds. So hopefully have news then of scan.

tori32 · 27/08/2007 19:40

Madboys can tell your really ticked off! I would be aswell. It will be lovely and healthy and tbh they will not give a damn what it is when it arrives!

glammarjoram · 27/08/2007 20:40

Hello all, Sorry to hear some of you have been having a somewhat challenging time with loved ones. It isn't like the movies, is it? Speaking of which, went to see Knocked Up on saturday night. Scary resemblance (and I don't mean physical)between my DP and chief protagonist

Seriously though, I hope things get better for you soon turtle. I went through a bit of a rough patch with DP just after we found out but things have improved drastically. It's a scary business this having kids malarkey and it affects people in different ways. But that's my twopence worth, no more, I promise. Chin up, girl.

I have my scan on wednesday. I have been waiting so impatiently for it but now I'm dreading it. 3 weeks ago I managed to fall off a chair and land on my bum and I cannot stop worrying/thinking about what if? Still feel a bit pregnant but so much better than I used to. Perhaps it's because I'm 12+3. Gosh, I hope it is.
Hope everyone has had a good weekend.

iliketosleep · 27/08/2007 21:27

i feel like crap i think i have the twin hormones without the twins anyone got any advice as i never had sickness with my last 3 pregnancys

skidoodle · 27/08/2007 21:27

3MB - a cousin of mine had exactly the same situation as you a few years ago - 3 boys and everyone kept assuming she was hoping her 4th would be a girl. It drove her nuts, and she's one of the most laid-back people I know.

She'd say "but I LOVE having 3 boys, I love our house full of boys, why would I automatically wish for a girl?" I think she was actually kind of hoping for a 4th boy, which is what she got.

Pregnant ladies seem to bring out the dufus in a lot of people - they say things that are just so weird and personal and intrusive while they actually mean well.

hey there all others, esp tori, turtle, glammarj,

tori32 · 27/08/2007 21:45

Hi skidoodle, whats news with you? Hows bump coming along. I'm really surprised, this time mine is smaller at same stage, compared to first. Are you getting ms?

skidoodle · 27/08/2007 22:05

hey tori, I don't have much of a bump yet although my waist is less pronounced and my tummy definitely less flat than before. Just feels like I've put on weight more than anything, which is probably true as I've been feeling really rough and eating a lot of bad food and getting very little exercise.

iliketosleep, i hear you. i'm starting to feel a bit better the last few days but for the last 3 or 4 weeks i've been feeling awful. No advice really - I've come up with nothing that helps, but would be happy to hear any. It will pass soon I'm sure.[it better ]

tori32 · 27/08/2007 22:13

Sorry you've still been feeling rough skidoodle, other than eating when I felt sick, I don't have any advice. Only got v slight nausea at beginning when really hungry! So I'm eating for quads!!!LOL

iliketosleep · 27/08/2007 22:16

ive been recommended sea sick bands by my auntie who is due in 2 weeks and had a terrible first pregnancy im going to give them a go as the thought of drinking ginger ale or eatting ginger biscuits makes me even worse!!

tori32 · 27/08/2007 22:22

iliketosleep - Good recommendation. I know they work really well for travel sickness but asn't sure if they worked for ms

iliketosleep · 27/08/2007 22:29

well she swore by them apparently but she also drank ginger ale which really isnt for me! worth a shot though

hannahmary · 28/08/2007 11:14

Hello all! Hope you had a great long weekend
I can't believe some of the things people say! When I called and told my mum I sternly warned her that I had news and she better take it in a good way but she has been SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited since then and for the first time in my life has been calling me once a week! Yaaaaa. But I have yet to tell my dad, he was in Azerbaijan so I used that as an excuse but he is now in England and has even called to see when I can go to visit but I'm scared to tell him because I don't know WHAT his reaction will be

hannahmary · 28/08/2007 11:17

oh yeah, and just found out that the medication they gave me while I was in Colombia for a stomach problem is 'not recommended during pregnancy'. I've checked it out and clinical trials have shown no adverse effects but there have not been enough trials to be sure or something like that. ARGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH now I am scared
I am waiting for the midwives to call and to get a scan/bloodtest date but I want it to be now...

preggersagain · 28/08/2007 11:22

hello ladies- did you all have a good bank holiday break? I fell asleep on the sofa on sunday, did a bit of pottering and cleaning before dh got back with the dc's on monday morning.
We went on a nice day out to........MIL's!! but in my defence it was cheap and i didn't have to lift a finger- we went for a nice walk along the river and she had sorted out a fabbo picnic, dh was slightly drunk on the way home so its a good job i'm teetotal atm so i can drive!

gingercat12 · 28/08/2007 11:30

Hello,

I have not known about this topic, because I thought it would be on the Pregnancy thread. It is lovely to have found you all.
I am due on the 7th March, so have already had my first scan. What a delight it was!
Hope to read up a little bit.
Wish you all the best,

gingercat12

AnguaVonUberwald · 28/08/2007 11:31

Turtle - hope your DP is behaving a bit better.

I liketosleep so sorry about your news, but glad the little one is growing well.

I too have been feeling terrible throughout this pregnancy. If we were ill for 2 months for any other reasons, we'd be off work, doctors would be investigating etc. It really hit me this weekend that I have been feeling crap for 9 weeks now, pretty much non stop. (and have to say, have NOT enjoyed it), though over the moon to be pregnant.

Hope the rest of you start feeling better soon. Scan on Friday (11 weeks) so really exited!!

Had a bit of a "thing" at the weekend, brokedown and sobbed all over DH, about life being out of control, everything changeing etc (to be fair, are moving house and I have a new job at the same time) - am so happy about baby but feeling a bit out of my depth, anyone else experienceing this?

littleducks · 28/08/2007 11:38

hiya everyone,
just wanted to add i have been feeling pretty terrible, i had hypersemis last time round and its starting again, but is much harder to deal with when there is a lively toddler around!

gingercat12 · 28/08/2007 11:45

Oh, yes. I am getting fed up by feeling so retched for I do not even know how long, too. Probably only 6-7 weeks, but seems years to me (and decades for DH). And everybody says you must be having the time of your life. Hahahaha.

Although I am quite proud of my bump, even if it only means I am fat.

I have not broken down yet, but I have not told my boss yet. My contract is up in April, so I do not know what the consequences are, but guess he will be shocked. I will be devastated to be out of work next year. Best contact the Citizens Advice Bureau right now.

iliketosleep · 28/08/2007 11:50

thanks angua, hope everyone is ok so sorry to heareveryone is feeling a bit rough but it wouldnt be pregnancy without feeling rough huh lol

piggyp · 28/08/2007 14:33

What a nice thread to find! It's so good to think that there are lots of us feeling the same (sick mainly). I'm due on March 3rd - but scan is on thursday, just starting to feel nervous about it! MS is starting to go now but i still feel exhausted and keep thinking of new things to worry about!

Brazilianmum · 28/08/2007 16:12

Is anyone suffering from heartburn. Just got over the worse of the morning sickness and have now started getting heartburn. Need to figure out what triggers it, but as I have been eating like a piggy that will be hard.

preggersagain · 28/08/2007 16:23

i did get a bit of heartburn yesterday a glass of cold milk works wonders for me!!
