I've got my NHS scan next mon when i'll be either 13 or 14 weeks, i've already had a private one last week though as i couldnt wait any longer!

Derah - i have a 6 yr old and 16 mth old and i m not doing any excercise apart form occassionally riding a bike. i dont do anything normally though so starting prob isnt a good idea. i'm also fairly lucky i suppose as normally i find it incredibly difficult to put wait on apart from when im pregnant and really pig out

Is anyone else thinking about a homebirth? i am but my midwife old me 3rd babies either shoot out really quickly or are difficult so im not so sure (any stories from people having #4 about there 3rd birth greatly appreciated)

This was my cravings week, had been wanting red thai curry for days. My old housemate used to make it with Lloyd Grossman sauce, so on Saturday I had to make it and it was great. Then I started craving some Brazilian food, so had to make black bean stew on Sunday, very yummy. Red on my pg book that I should be eating lot's of beans so I feel very good about it.

I was looking at the weight gain chart on my pg book yesterday and worrying. Have put on 8lbs since my booking in app. Don't want to put too much on as I was a bit overweight before anyway. Must make more of an effort to exercise.

Had a nesting weekend and spen Sat pm and Sun cleaning the kitchen. Found mouse dropping last week so bought one of those things you plug in from JML that is supposed to scare them away. Cleaned everything every tin, piece of cuttlery and plate and still had energy to make coconut macaroons for one of my work friend who is leaving this week. I'm enjoying this boost of energy.

Morning everyone, Yey I think my ms is finally easing off..am 12 wks exactly today, now I just need my spotty teenage skin to clear up and I'll be fine!

As to the 3rd birth question - with Dd1 (child 3) it was about 2 1/2 quicker than Ds2 (took around 2 1/2 hrs) but I wouldn't say that it was too fast or any more painful than the others.

And then when I had Ds 3 (child 4) it was a really slow build up throughout the day but when the contractions properly kicked in took around 2 hrs from needing gas & air to the birth but still I would say completely copeable and if you want a home birth don't necessarilly think it will be a lot faster.

I thought with no 4 I would have no notice and it would be a whirlwind but it was actually the calmest because of the build up, but he did come on his due date with no induction or sweep or anything - in his own time, I think that made a big difference.

Don't know if that was at all helpful??!!

Morning all - looks like we're slowly crawling out of the first trimester and starting to get more energy. Hope everyone is feeling this or starts to feel it very soon!

I did lots of walking this weekend as we were out and about in London, and I felt really good. And for the first morning in ages, I don't feel too sick today either!

I have a qn: I got an insect bite last night, and I normally react really badly to them so tend to dose up on antihistamines. I've read that I can't use them while pg, and of course this insect bite has now led to my lower arm having swollen quite a lot (a colleague says it looks like a golf ball!) Does anyone know of any good subsitutes for anthistamines that I can actually use while pregnant?

Thank you!!!

Spugs...I'm having a homebirth if all goes well. No, make that I AM HAVING A HOMEBIRTH AND ALL WILL GO WELL.

turtle23 · 17/09/2007 11:46

HQ- askn yor dr as there are one or two you can take...but if you've coped so far..

preggersagain · 17/09/2007 11:48

i was having a homebirth but apparently with two they like to have you hooked up to monitors laying as still as possible to increase the chances of a c-section !!!!

e14mum · 17/09/2007 11:48

HolidaysQueen- I'm pretty sure there IS one type of antihisthamine you can take, but beats me if I can remember which one! Maybe try calling your mw or gp? Hope the swelling goes down soon!

feedmenow · 17/09/2007 12:15

Derah, what did you think of St Peters when you had your dd? I had my dd there over 8 years ago and vowed never to go back! Had ds at Wexham Park in Slough rather than go back to St Peters. But am hoping for a vbac this time and have so far had some very positive discussions with St Peters, so (at the moment!) am planning to go there.

Where abouts in Woking are you? My brother and SIL live in Horsell.......

derah · 17/09/2007 14:00

Hello ladies, looks like everyone is doing well today!

SPugs - another planned homebirth here... I intend to stay well away from hospitals after the CRAP care I got with DD.

Which brings me to my opinion on St Peters, Feednenow.... are you sure you want to hear it? . When I arrived there, they told me they didn't have enough staff for me. Not sure what I was supposed to do with this information. Cross my legs and NOT give birth? They just left DH and I sitting alone in this awful equipment-filled room for ages before they finally found me a midwife and I was moved to a home-from-home room, which was actually quite pleasant. Labour was awful, ended up flat on my back on the bed which was the last position I wanted to be in, but was just too tired to do anything about it (this was now 24 hours of labour and 36 of no sleep). After the birth, at 5am, I was taken to the maternity ward, plopped into bed and DH sent packing. Absolutely exhausted, I tried to get some sleep but at 7am, the ward sprang to life, noise, bells, alarms chatting etc etc, no chance of sleep. No-one came in to see me and check if I was OK until DH arrived at lunchtime. Some time before that I finally realised no-one was going to feed me and crept out to ask about breakfast and was waved in the direction of a cupboard of cereal. Not sure what I was supposed to do with dd while I ate. So DH arrived, blasted the nurses out for ignoring me and I finally got a cursury looking-over and some help with nappies. I'm just so tired I can't cope so we decide to go home. Hours later, the paedeatrician finally shows up to check DD over so we can leave. Then someone looks at my chart, says "oh, you can't go home, you need to be monitored for 48 hours." This is now 12 hours after the birth and no-one has 'monitored' us in any way at all up to this point. So we tell them politely to go screw themselves and go home. Eventually, I'm in my own bed and get some sleep. NEVER AGAIN!! I'm staying HOME this time around!

Sorry if that wasn't helpful, and I'm sure it's not just St Peters that's so dreadful. Have you considered homebirth?

And I'm in Bisley, not too far from Horsell.

Gosh this thread is getting big. Anyone think it may be an idea to start a new one?

turtle23 · 17/09/2007 16:59

I'll do it...here we go www.mumsnet.com/Talk/2290/390041?rnd=1190044688977
does that work?

I am breastfeeding and am suffering with a sore throat (so much that my ears ache and can hardly swallow). My throat is very itchy. Does anyone know of any safe medicines to take for a breastfeeding mother?
