Morning!

Congratulations ECATLM and Kerri!

Thanks for all induction advice. Still undecided but i think it will depend on how i feel tomorrow at the appointment. Looks like it's just me and DS though as DP forgot to tell work about the appointment

Never mind he's always been good at previous appointments

Another tip for trapped wind is flat coke!

38+1

Hopeitwontbebig · 03/09/2007 08:36

Morning all.

WOW Babies popping like crazy, HOW EXCITING, but also VERY as I am NOT sleeping these days with hip pain, getting to the end of my tether now

pinkhearts, good luck with your ceasarean today, post when you can!

Massive congrats to PLP, so happy for you! Have you found any relief to your hip symptoms yet?

Huuuuuuuuge congrats to ECATLM and Sparks and Filbrit and Kerri!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Babies babies babies babies babies babies babies babies babies babies babies babies babies!!!!!!!!!

Chatty, sorry to hear you're suffering love. I was induced with DS2 and it really wasn't too bad at all. It WAS very very quick and pretty intense, no let up at all between contractions which is common apparently. Would have done it again if offered, but having the cs experience this time

MrsMar, glad you're feeling a bit more human. Last thing you need is to be dealing with a nasty chest infection on top of cs recovery. How are you feeling about it all. I must admit, I'm slightly papping myself now !

Tink, thanks for the tips re wind . I know EXACTLY what you mean about worrying about going in to labour before cs date. They've sheduled mine for 39+3, and my due date was only the day after PLP's and she popped yesterday! And like PLP I've been getting LOADS of Braxton Hicks. It's scary to think that if I did start labour it would be an emergency caesarean-eek! I'm assuming you had a positive cs experience then? When have they scheduled yours for?

canadianmum, our DH's just don't understand our bond on here do they , I call you my September antenatal friends! As I didn't go to a RL antenatal group.

Dal, well done on updating the stats. I was starting to make a list of babies when I realised that you'd already done it - phew! I was going to add a section for scheduled cs dates. I know FioFio is having her section on Wednesday. Good luck for your appointment today and yes you're absolutely right, bub will wait for one's most 'ungroomed' day!

Floss at least you and DP tried huh!! TBH and prob TMI I find it all a bit too painful so can't do

Sophus, how is your Mum getting on?

amyclaramum, sorry you were feeling upset yesterday, it's understandable. Hmm that's interesting isn't it about the Peppermint tea. If you find out, let us know won't you, if it does affect milk supply, I'll avoid it after my CS. Hope things improve for you and Eloise starts piling that weight on Oh just see good old dal has googled, you're just a whiz dal!!

TOD at your DH going away!! Oh no! I guess it can't be helped! Let's keep our fingers crossed that nothing happens until he gets home!

Jemima, sorry to hear about your rough night the other night, hopefully that infection will be cleared up FAST.

Floss, sorry to hear about your bad night last night too. Must admit I had exactly the thing a couple of wks ago when DH and I did the BD. In fact I went in to hospital the next day because I thought labour had started , the Braxton Hicks were showing up on the monitor.

Pecka, I'll have a look at those links in a minute.

kinki sent a text yesterday morning, but I've only just read it because I didn't look at my mobile all weekend!
Quick catch up for all, been out of touch cos run out of credit! Still in hosp, I'm ready to go but Liam has jaundice needing treatment. Pos home Sun/Mon. Cos he's early & small they want him well before we go. Has regained birth weight already. My little guzzleguts feeds well! Will catch up with all soon. x

Well I had a terrible night again last night. Hip pain is getting worse. Just can't get comfortable in bed. Unfortunately my consultant refused point blank to consider bringing my caesarean date to 38+5. He says they have a strict rule not to perform it before 39 weeks. Even though it would be 2 days before, and this baby is already a fair size . I'm wondering if all this lack of sleep and pain I am in is more harmful to the baby than performing the cs 2 days before the 39 wk threshold. Must admit I am reeeeeeeeally panicking about the whole caesarean prospect. It just seems that everywhere you turn, every magazine you look in the awful recovery after a cs is thrown in your face.... 'it's not an easy option', 'it's major surgery' and so on and so on. Finding it VERY unhelpful. Sorry for rant, but I really am shitting myself (excuse language). I guess I'm also really scared about how I'm going to cope when I get home. The first few days I will have my stepmum looking after me, then DH will take a couple of weeks off. The closer it's getting to more scared I am of how DH will cope with the new baby with just one arm. Oh dear, crying now, not had enough sleep. Will post again later.

Tinkjon · 03/09/2007 08:39

Amy, yes I'm sure your milk coming in late is due to your c-section. I think official opinion is that it doesn't really make any difference to your milk how you give birth but almost every cs person I know had delayed milk production, me included, and a few midwives said it did slow things down. Hope it gets better soon!

Chattyhan · 03/09/2007 08:44

HIWBB - thanks for induction advice it's nice to hear a positive induction!

Sorry to hear you're feeling At least you've got help for the first few days you're home and i know a couple of people who've had very speedy c-section recoveries recently so i wish the same for you.

I can't believe your consultant won't bring the date forward. My friend was scheduled for 38+5 and went into labour at 37+5 so had c-section then. Especially with big baby i think it sounds unreasonable! I'll keep my fingers crossed that nature intervenes for you xx

Tinkjon · 03/09/2007 08:46

Hope, yes, the c-section itself was very positive. The recovery in hospital was pretty bad but I've since found out that my surgeon was very bad and his patients always suffered and also I was only allowed paracetamol, nothing stronger ('cos of asthma). But once I got home I was sore but far from immobile - in fact I just checked the diary I kept at the time and apparently I walked into town to a restaurant and then went shopping, 2 weeks after DD was born, so a fortnight can't be bad! Try not to worry (says the Queen of Worrying, here!) - magazines only seem to talk about the downside, there's no story in "I had a cs and was fine". I'm booked for the 13th, at 39+2. Just hope I can hang on 'til Saturday when I am having a haircut and highlights

MrsFish · 03/09/2007 09:56

Kerri - CONGRATULATIONS on the birth if Niamh yet another girl

MrsFish · 03/09/2007 09:58

Well I have spoken to the mw this morning, and she is going to see me again on thursday to see if she still thinks I am breech. If so they will probably see me for a scan next wednesday when I will be 37+3 so a week earlier than before. I am feeling happier about that

sophus · 03/09/2007 09:59

Hopey - Sorry you're feeling worried, but i think it is understandable - anything medical and unknown is. Just remember that lots more people have straightforward experiences than horror stories, its just the horror stories are more interesting to talk about. You and your little one will be fine , and from start to finish it will be over before you know it.
Thanks for asking about mum - she has good days and bad days. She is on her own now with just carers, as my brother had to go home. We are monitoring her quite closely to see how she copes or if she needs to go into a hospice which we want to put off for as long as possible.
But shock of shocks last night DP offered to have her dog, who has been staying with my friend who runs a kennels since mum first got ill. I am really pleased as i wanted this but didn't know how to broach it with ol' grumpy.
So we are going to go from our well ordered just-the-two-of-us plus elderly cats to the two of us, one elderly cat, Bert the world's feistiest kitten, Hector the terrier and.....a.....baby.
What are we thinking?

hannahsaunt · 03/09/2007 10:13

Nothing like taking it all at once, Sophus! Good luck .

Congrats on baby Niamh - really love the name...September really is bringing out the girls as predicted.

First real day of mat leave i.e. no-one here all day. So many things on my list to do that I don't know where to start and risk doing nothing but sit here all day...

Rin23 · 03/09/2007 10:22

I am same as you Hannahsaunt, first day of proper mat leave and wondering where to start! Getting dressed might be good...

Sophus - sorry to hear your mum is up and down, but glad to hear you had some good news with DP offering to take the dog. It does rather sound like you're gonna have your hands full though! Good luck!

Well I think I'm going to start on my list of things to do... it's gonna take me a while. First off is registering with a new doctor. Have a good day everyone!

sophus · 03/09/2007 10:45

Off for a mani/pedi - reckon it's the last chance i'm going to get.

Rin23 · 03/09/2007 10:53

ooh, great idea! Enjoy!

spraklynewthing · 03/09/2007 11:08

Hi All esp Hope it won't

I was on this theard quite regularly at the beginning of my pregnancy but then I got quite introverted and before I due it - It's my EDD! Scary!

Delighted to hear there are so many babies coming already - so exciting to hear!

HIWBB - So sorry to hear your SPD is giving you so much grief. I was refused a cs with mind dispite the pain and immobility - am remaining postive but my family have been taking bets on me needing one in the end anyway - very supportive, eh?!

Hope your DH is recovering well from his surgery too.

anyway - apologies for contributing sweet nothing to the thread for months - good luck and best wishes to ALL!

xx

spraklynewthing · 03/09/2007 11:11

soz for last post - just read back. Mental note to self - check spelling and whether it makes sense prior to posting!!!

MrsBumblebee · 03/09/2007 11:25

Morning all, and welcome back spraklynewthing.

Congratulations Kerri!! Niamh is a lovely name. Hope you and baby are both feeling good.

Amy, even though I have no personal experience at all, I just thought I'd share the experience of a friend who had her baby by CS a couple of weeks ago. Baby went from 9 pounds 13 to 8 pounds 6 within the space of a week or two, and they told her it was because of the section - combination of the drug's effect on the baby, and the fact he's less hungry because he hadn't had to fight his way down the birth canal. It may also have had something to do with her milk coming in late - I don't know. Anyway, they told her not to worry at all, that it was normal, and he's now gaining weight steadily a couple of weeks later . HTH

Hopey, by the way, the same person said the CS was absolutely fine (it was her third - first two emergency and this one elective - and they've all been fine). She was only in hospital for two days, and is now happily up and about.

Floss, and anyone else considering 'adult' ways of bringing on labour... I found out recently that the reason sex is thought to work is because of the effect of the chemicals in your man's juices, nothing to do with the actual 'action'. And apparently, it doesn't matter at all how those chemicals are, er, ingested, IYKWIM . So anyone who doesn't feel athletic enough for full on sex but is still up to a quick swallow, you have an alternative .

Hi to everyone else. Today's my first day of solo mat leave now DH has gone to work, so I'm casting around for things to do too. Thank god for MN!

Chattyhan · 03/09/2007 11:27

Hey spraklynewthing!

Hope your pregnancy is going ok? Due date today! Wow - it won't be long now!

I'm 38+1!

FlossALump · 03/09/2007 11:34

Ok so perhaps all those pains weren't for no gain at all - just had a very definate show - much thicker than anything I've passed before. So now I'm wondering were they shows as well or is this the only show I've had??!

MrsB - I'm well aware of that one too! As is DP - he's been trying to prove that it is the most effective way. He offers up his services every time I get a cup of RLT - unfortunately for him I actually quite like the RLT. But thank you for the tip - Depending on how much longer pg lasts DP might get lucky!!

FlossALump · 03/09/2007 11:35

Could I anymore in one paragraph?!!

Morning all!!

Congrats to Kerri28! Welcome Niamh, gorgeous name!

Have read the posts, but they havent really sank in TBH. My appt this morning went well - bub is still breech but still very happy in there. If it continues to be happy and remain moving around as normal, I may still have a chance at going for the ECV..next appt is on friday morning.

Hope everyone else is ok. Oh - and for those on first days of proper mat leave. Stay in jim jams, watch rubbish tv and relax all day! Its what I did for the first few days...

Norfolkbumpkin · 03/09/2007 12:33

Oh dear, I'm now starting my third week of maternity leave and still in my pyjamas ...... but I am 39+6 today and thoroughly fed up of waiting, so feeling especially sloth-like.......

Hopeitwontbebig · 03/09/2007 12:47

Hi ladies, must admit to still being in bed , I feel utterly exhausted! Thanks for reassuring posts re cs.

Sprakly where have you beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen????????? I need you! Having major panic on now re DH's brachial plexus injury and this baby. Need to chat to you. Sorry to hear you are in so much pain too, it's really not fair is it, the things we do to keep the human race going! Keep in touch!

dal, so glad your appointment went well today. Phew! So are you definitely going ahead for the cs on the 20th?

OP posts:
Holly29 · 03/09/2007 12:48

congrats to all the new mums! how exciting... Like dal21 my wee one is still breech and am feeling a bit anxious now, but hey, fingers crossed. First day of maternity leave! of course I went swimming this morning and now have exhausted myself...
love to all. x

dal21 · 03/09/2007 12:55

Norfolk - sending you birthing vibes! and nothing wrong with being sloth like!

Hopey - I have no idea what is happening tbh. Last week I thought it was a definite section....20th if not before. Today my consultant seems to be treading the middle ground a little more and has reopened ECV option...a lot depends on baby's movements over next week and then the check on friday. But if ECV is an option; then I will go for it, the consultant at QC who does them is absolutely fantastic. As much as I have swung towards csection, if this baby turns and is happy - I would much rather prefer a vag birth.
TBH - am trying not to think about it. None of this is predictable or in my control, so am just open to being flexible.
I have veered between such extremes of emotion, I am exhausted by it!
