Another tip if you'd rather wait to get fitted is to get a couple of breastfeeding vest tops. I wear them to bed and/or under tops and they have integral bra support and clips on straps for feeding. Available from mothercare/BM/JMB/H&M...
Brilliant!especially for hospital and the early days when you're mostly in PJ's!

dal21 · 31/08/2007 20:20

Thanks chatty - do the vest tops hold breast pads in place too?

amyclaramum · 31/08/2007 20:23

Hi everyone

Hope you all ok today ? Sorry for all of you with aches and pains and everything - not long now til the lo's arrive !

Mrsmar - glad you've made decision and have a date now to get planning for !!

Congratulations to Loopy and baby Katie

re nursing bras - I did get mine before as didn't think I'd be able to get to the shops after and went to John Lewis - they measured and then allowed for "expansion" when milk in !! I was glad I had them in hospital as ended up staying in longer etc.

see you tomorrow ! xx

Chattyhan · 31/08/2007 20:24

Good question! From what i remember from last time breast pads do move around a bit but generally feeding is so frequent you're constantly re-adjusting anyway! Some breast pads have stickers on them (Avent do) so if this becomes a problem try that! I don't remember it being a problem for me!

Norfolkbumpkin · 31/08/2007 20:59

Very useful reading the advice on nursing bras, I have just packed a couple of those crop-top bras in my hospital bag hoping that they will get me by until I can get something more 'accommodating'. I have been getting more than a little narked today with the amount of phonecalls I keep getting from relatives checking up on me just to see if I am o.k./have gone into labour yet. Like a fool I mentioned a while ago that I was trying to cross my legs until after midnight tonight for a September bub, and all this week (particularly today) I have been getting increasingly more phonecalls checking up on my 'situation'. Real pain in the bum when I am lying down trying to chill as I have been advised to expect phonecall from midwife to arranged the next bp/urine check. Think I will change ansaphone message to deflect the baying mob!!!

PurpleLostPrincess · 31/08/2007 21:07

I remember that all too well when I went over with my DC's! I went to our local shop this afternoon and the guy there said "you still not had that baby!?" so I replied with "yes, but I thought I'd walk around with a cushion up my top to see what people thought!". We've been going to that shop for ages and we're what I would regard as friends and I didn't take offence but I've been desperate to say that to somebody for ages LOL!

Hope they lay off bumpkin - tell them you'll let them know when something happens and to back off and hopefully they'll get the message!

Chattyhan · 31/08/2007 21:35

Just received this txt!

Doing well. She was a bit too cold earlier but abrief spell in the incubator seems to have worked. I'm recovering much better than last time and coping on paracetamol and codeine. Managed to get a single room for free! Can't access mumsnet on patientline! Love to all,

LLL xx

MrsFish · 31/08/2007 21:51

WooHoo - Congratulations Loopy

Twitmonster - sending you many many birth vibes {{{{vibes}}}

Dal - Blimey! makes me want to sort out a scan asap. My lo feels like it is lying at the top of my bump atm, its rock hard and sore above my belly button and soft and squishy below, god knows what position he is in, mind you he is squirming that much I am keeping my fingers crossed that he is trying to turn again.

Emj23 - that is pants about your husband, does he have no choice????

Toadstool - glad you are on the mend and lo has turned

Well I have been in all day today, ds hasn't slept and has been quite whiny, but managed to get him to bed just before seven and have been relaxing since. Spent most of the day on Photobox sorting out photos to put into books to print, its amazing how long it takes. Also been internet shopping, bought some books from Amazon for ds about potty training and having a new baby in the family, try and get him used to the idea through pictures

Tomorrow my aunts and mum are coming to stay which will be fab, I can take a total backseat and let them fuss over ds

emj23 · 31/08/2007 22:15

Thanks for the link PLP, I had a quick look in BabiesRUs but none of them leapt out and shouted 'Buy me!' at me, I'll have another look I think, preferably when DS isn't running around the shop with a light sabre

MrsFish, unfortunately DP has no choice in the matter, his normal workplace is being refitted or redecorated or something, so everything and everyone is getting moved for a week while its done. It's just a right pain that it's happening at the end of September, and to a place where there's no phone coverage. Oh well, can't be helped.

I can't believe we're nearly in the right month!

Hopeitwontbebig · 31/08/2007 22:44

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY Massive congratulations Loopy

Tinkjon · 31/08/2007 23:18

Congrats to LLL!!!!!

MrsMar, I'm booked in for cs on the 13th, too and felt exactly the same as you about the date, even though I'm not in the slightest bit superstitious. It's hard to be rational at this stage in pregnancy though, isn't it?!

ccpink · 01/09/2007 07:36

hi all,
congrat's to lou. what about ecatlm - did I miss it?! Very of emerging babes.

plp - I've only got mon and tue and then I'm officially on maternity!!! I've been quite lucky as had school hols so no point in starting it before but has meant I've had to keep going in and sorting stuff with exam results and problems ready for new staff. Anyway two more to do - Huge cheer!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for your concern though

I'm pleased some others are confused about nursing bra's. My mw said to get at about week 38 and then to tell them to allow for growth?

Chatty - great tip about tops - I didn't know they existed. I'm going to look into them now I know - thanksEveryone has said to me get tops that are suitable but I didn't want to seem stupid and say like what?!I'm really not a shirt person, especially with enormous bazoomas! Anyone else have wisdom..

Dal - I thought if I had another blackout today I'd ring as that would be three days in run. Hate being a pain though. My spd seems worse now too - I've got the John Wayne feeling that someone mentioned as if the head is just there Plus I've still got ages - technically - due 27th!

emj -I got a bouncer from m&p they have quite a lot to choose from and actually quite reasonable.

I haven't bought an expresser - have you lot?! Kind of didn't want to incase I can't bf. Can someone tell me if I NEED it now. Thanks

I'm up early but did have a good night last night - got to go and change spare bed now though for the dreaded il's arriving! Tried to explain[moan] to dh about how hard I was finding even the thought of it and he is going to try and encourage them to go elsewhere tue so I can have bed back. It's not a lie that we have work and decorator. We'll see...

Love to all
x

FlossALump · 01/09/2007 07:58

Loopy _ huge congratulations on the safe arrival of you DD Kate. Glad to hear you are both doing well! Hope your time in hospital isn't too bad. Wonder if you are at StM's?

CCpink, even if you don't succesfully BF you may find you can express some milk for baby using the breast pump. Also if you become really engorged they can be useful to express small amounts off to make your breasts more comfortable. I'm assuming you have a manual and not an all singing/dancing electric pump?

Bad nights sleep here last night. Looks like the rest of us will be having our babies at home for an extra year! Still thinking of ECATLM.

potoroo · 01/09/2007 08:16

Loopy - congratulations on the arrival of your daughter! Great name (same as mine ).

CCpink - if it helps, I didn't buy a pump until a week or two after DS was born. I'd done a bit of research before hand so I knew what I wanted if I needed it. Just picked it up from Tesco in the end.

Still all chaos in our household. DH has put down the new flooring, and we are about to rip out the kitchen (insanity). Baby's room is full of boxes and kitchen stuff and we still haven't sorted out a Moses Basket but I have at least done a few loads of washing. If baby comes early DH will be making an emergency trip to Mothercare.

lou031205 · 01/09/2007 08:59

Congratulations to Kinki and LLL - it's so exciting!

Jasmine continues to do amazingly well. She was weighed on Tuesday and was 6lb 1oz - 7oz in 4 days!!

She is feeding with gaps of about 1.5 - 2.5 hours between feeds night and day, so that is fairly exhausting, but precious times that will be gone so soon.

I do think that the exhaustion of having a baby is much better than the exhaustion of late pregnancy, so be encouraged!

hannahsaunt · 01/09/2007 09:51

Good to hear Jasmin is doing so well (and that post baby tiredness is better than pre baby tiredness ).

Apologies for kicking off the nursing bra thing! Trying to remember what I've done before. IIRC I had sports-style nursing bras for hospital (pulled on over my head) - really attractive mono-chest type things which were v comfy and came in S,M,L rather than specific cup/chest sizes. Not dissimilar to having b/f tops and they did hold the nursing pads just fine. Once home, I used them overnight as they were fine for that but I needed more support through the day and hence the trips to JL post-milk to get proper bras. Just need to find the night ones now for my hospital bag (bag sounds a bit organised - reality is small heap in corner of bedroom of assorted random items).

Hoping for a sunny weekend. Have a good one.

Norfolkbumpkin · 01/09/2007 10:03

Well it's a lovely sunny day here in Norfolk, a perfect day for relaxing outside rubbing my belling and daydreaming of when it will pop and I can see my little bub at last! Hope you all have a chilled out day. Congrats to the new mums with their little bundles, it's all getting very exciting waiting for the next one to pop!

39+4

MMooMar · 01/09/2007 11:02

Hi Ladies,

Hope everyone is well.

CONGRATULATIONS LOOPYLOU ,WELL DONE, and WELCOME and HUGS AND KISSES to KATIE! XXXXXXX.

Another bubba here ....still loads to go!.

Feel quite well today had a good nights sleep for a change, only once out of bed for a wee, then went straight back off to sleep again.Usually lying there for ages and end up reading....or raiding the fridge or cupboards

Got another stye (sp?)on my eye,on the lower lid,its that swollen this morning looks like I have had a whack in the eye.Last week I had one on my upper lid but it never seemed as bad as this one.Started to get quite a few little pimples on my legs too, thankfully not on the face but whats that about then?

I cant believe what my DS has just done.He was standing at the back of me on the chair and sneezed twice all over my hair.....loveeeelllyyy!! nice, wet and spitty, wonderful!

He`s just been in my hospital bag as well and found a soft toy duck that I have brought for LO.Came out the bedroom holding it shouting "DUCK",gave it back to me without any hassle when I said it was for the baby ,hopefully thats a good sign

Anyway gonna go now,off into the shower to get rid of spitty hairdo.Off to see my mum soon as they have let her out for the weekend, but is back in for more tests next week.Going to try to find out a bit more from her if I can.

Anyway ,have a nice day girls, will pop back later to see if there is any news from ECATLM.

Love to all.

Chattyhan · 01/09/2007 11:27

Happy September everyone!

Lou glad Jasmine is doing well i sympathise with the feeding routine my DS did that!

ccpink - other breastfeeding top ideas are... wear vest under t.shirt so tummy is hidden when hoisting up t.shirt to feed, poncho/scarf/blanket can be used to throw over lo and boob if you want to keep hidden. I didn't use any special feeding tops but i know they are available with flaps and mock layers!

MMoomar - glad you slept ok and DS cooperated about the duck. DS keeps pulling things out of my hospital bag so every couple of days i'm repacking to make sure!

Norfolkbumpkin · 01/09/2007 11:52

Oh dear, just had a bit of a moment. Phone rang and again it's MIL phoning to ask how things are/any news although we have already advised family that we will of course phone them if anything happens. MIL asked if we wanted to go round tomorrow for food if we didn't feel like cooking, if not she would phone again tomorrow night for an update and again on MOnday morning when dh is back at work to see if I needed anything. I was as polite as I could be, thenwhen she rang off I immediately phoned dh in tears to sound off about the daily welfare check calls and how I can't cope. Just what he needs at work, a tired emotional wife bending his ear. He is going to change ansaphone message when he gets home and as I am feeling a lot more mobile today we are going to go out for the afternoon to do something nice. Blinkin' hormones!!

PurpleLostPrincess · 01/09/2007 11:59

THIS IS OUR MONTH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't believe its September!!!!!!!!!!

Glad you got some sleep MMooMar! I had a bath in lavendar bubble bath and couldn't get out of it LOL; then I had some chocolate horlicks in the hope that all this put together would help me sleep. I'm afraid it was all in vain as I had a bad night again, but at least I know not to try getting in and out of the bath now!

BH's have been really bad this morning and I've had to breathe through a few of them...

My hands are still bad and DH keeps telling me not to type any more so I'd best stop now (he's sitting next to me glaring!!!)

Love to all and have a good weekend!!!!

PLP (37 weeks today!) xxx

dal21 · 01/09/2007 12:18

Hi everyone!

Well I have been into town and got some more bits and bobs i needed. Since this is almost defo a csection - just got more stuff in to avoid DH having to go out in the initial weeks. If the stuff doesnt get used - so be it.

M&S measured me for nursing bras - just got 2 for the time being, again - dont know when I will be up and able to go shopping, so thought I had better get it sorted. They were really good, basically fitted a bra that fits now and asked me to stick a fist down each cup - them bras dont half grow!!

Think someone was asking re. the bouncy chairs - I have gone for the baby bjorn sitter. Doesnt play music/ vibrate or any of that stuff - but I like the fact that it can be used as chair up to the age of 2...will see how much the baby likes it.

MrsF - this baby was wriggling loads last night - felt as though it was trying to turn. Only lasted about 10 mins before stopping though which makes me think that it isnt able to turn...and maybe for a very good reason. Have fun letting your mum and aunts fuss over you and DS today! I wish I was seeing my mum this weekend.

CCPink - just be careful. dont do too much! Re. the breastpump, I have invested in one - the medela swing. Figure if for any reason I have difficulty BF'ing - I will need to use it. But as someone else says - if you have one lined up and know which one you want; then you can always send someone out to pick it up for you.

Chatty - thanks for the update from Loopy. Glad to hear they are doing so well.

Where is ECALTM? She must have had LO by now and is keeping us all in suspense!

Potoroo - good luck with all your DIY - it will defo be worth it when all done.

Lou - glad to hear you and Jasmine are doing so well. And that avec baby is not as tiresome as these last few weeks!

Norfolk - sorry to hear about MIL. I guess she is trying to be there for you - but I can understand that it can get a bit much.

Re. breastfeeding tops - I picked up a couple from blooming marvellous - will see how I get on with them - but they are dead comfy!

Hope everyone is ok - come on sept babies! lets start popping!

dal21 · 01/09/2007 12:20

X post - hello to PLP also! Stop typing!

I had a not great nights sleep either - but that was because I kept thinking about the final bits i needed if bub was arriving soon. Now that they are sorted - my bed is calling. Think a few hours shut eye is needed. Catch up this afternoon.

MrsBumblebee · 01/09/2007 12:44

Morning (oops, I mean afternoon ) all.

Congratulations to LLL and glad all is going well! And sending out positive vibes to ECATLM.

PLP, sounds exciting with the BHs - maybe things are starting to happen?

Norfolk, sorry to hear MIL is driving you mad. I have similar experiences, but with my mum rather than my MIL - she phones all the time and drives me potty.

A question for you all re birth plans - I can't decide what to put (if anything) about having the baby cleaned before being given to me, and would welcome opinions. I'm quite keen on the whole skin-to-skin as soon as possible thing, but DH is seriously squeamish, and insists that LO is not coming anywhere near him until he's had a wipe . Does anyone know when they normally do the cleaning bit, and just how covered in goo the baby's likely to be? Or do any second timers have any useful experiences from last time around?

Otherwise all is well with me. Felt a bit 'odd' yesterday, but perfectly normal today, so think it was a false alarm. Only incident in the last couple of days was having to deal with an absolutely massive spider last night - and I hate them! Yuk!!

Have a nice day everyone!

PurpleLostPrincess · 01/09/2007 13:05

MrsBumbleBee - I had to deal with a spider last night toooooo!!! Oh my goodness they really freak me out!!!

I don't think the bh's are anything - just getting closer I think... They've calmed down a bit now too thank goodness!

My mum is the same - we have more problems with her than either of my MIL's (remarried!). That said, she has been great recently and I'm looking forward to her being with me for the birth of this lo...

I'm afraid I can't really remember much about whether they had cleaned up DC's after birth or when - hope somebody can offer you some good advice! I'm interested to know too as my DH is quite squeamish too...

I'm sneaking in some typing while DH and my Dad are wallpapering the nursery - how exciting!!!
