IT'S SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPTEMBER!!!!!!!!! YAY

Lou, well done on that weight gain and thanks for the reassuring words re tiredness pre versus post pregnancy

PLP, glad I'm not the only Superman fan. I was DEVASTATED when Christopher Reeve died. I wrote him a letter when I was 7 asking him to marry me, but my Mum didn't post it PSML about not being able to get out of the bath, think I'm gonna stick mostly to showers at the moment, I've had a couple of hum, am I gonna be able to get out moments! Oooh, chocolate Horlicks, I've been meaning to buy some, you've just reminded me.

Great tips re the nursing bras, I need to get that organised over the next week.

Mmoomar, I hope you find out a bit more info from your Mum, glad she's coming out for the weekend, that's good . Your DS sounds very sweet.

Norfolkbump, I TOTALLY understand where you are coming from. When I was overdue with DS1 the daily phonecalls were infuriating. Like you need a reminder that you are still VERY heavily pregnant, and the date you'd been gearing up for has come and gone . I think DH's idea of changing the answerphone message is a very good idea. Maybe change it daily, ie say hello on 'Saturday', no news yet!!

dal, well done on getting those last few bits. I've written myself a list. When DC go back to school next week I MUST get it organised.

MrsBumbleBee, snap here too with squeamish DH, TBH I can't really remember what they did with DS1 or DS2, I think it depends on how 'cooked' your baby is. The earlier they come the more gooey they'll be because they'll still be covered in white vervix. When DS1 was born, he skin was very dry and flaky because he was 10 days overdue. TBH the midwife can give baby such a quick wipe over with a towel there wouldn't be much delay in that initial skin to skin contact. Maybe post on the pregnancy page?

Well we had a very busy day yesterday on DH's birthday, we went to London to the Science Museum, parked up at Hammersmith and got the train in. I was crippled by lunch time with hip pain and I had the most horrendous Braxton Hicks contraction which lasted a solid 3/4 hours! My tummy was rock hard the whole time, no let up at all. Such a shame as it was DH's birthday, I tried not to complain too much . Also the kicks in my cervix were AWFUL! THANK GOODNESS THIS WASN'T MY FIRST PREGNANCY, THIS WOULD BE AN ONLY CHILD OTHERWISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PLP, I too had DH sitting next to me yesterday glaring whilst I was posting, he's accused me of being addicted to Mumsnet, I explained to him that you're my friends . How exciting about the wallpaper going up!!

Awww HIWBB, I cried for two whole days when he died and I still cry all the way through when I watch the movies. I'm still convinced that he's smiling at me at the end bit when he flies past the camera and looks into it!!! DH bought me a film clip thing that has pride of place on our lounge wall! Bless you for writing to him when you were little!

Glad you managed to get out for DH's birthday, hope it was ok in spite of your hips and bh's - I completely empathise! My mum wanted to go out shopping today but I have decided I should only venture out if and when I need to!

I too am addicted to mnet and all my lovely friends here on the Sept thread (((hugs))) - DH just doesn't get it!!! He has popped to homebase for some supplies so I've snuck in some more typing lol! (ssshhh, don't tell him! )

Hopeitwontbebig · 01/09/2007 14:24

OMG PLP, you're just like me. When I was little I used to rewind the bit at the end when he flies round the earth and play it over and over. I remember a few yrs ago there was a programme on, you know the best of.... programmes, and totally unexpected, that scene came up on the screen, and DH turned to me and said 'you're gonna cry, you're gonna cry aren't you?' And I did.

Sorry everyone else. Purple TOTALLY knows where I'm coming from here!

A little while ago, someone was auctioning off his Superman suit on ebay, it was going for thousands!

PLP have you seen 'Somewhere in Time'?

PurpleLostPrincess · 01/09/2007 14:35

Ooops, sorry I posted again - computer did something weird!!

Oh HIWBB, yes I totally know what you mean - the whole room looks at me when that bit comes on and they know not to question if Superman is real nor not!! The day he died, DH called me on my mobile and made me pull over before telling me the news as he knew I'd react badly. I arrived at my bf's house in a heap of tears on her doorstep and she just said "oh dear, you've heard!" and put the kettle on!

I'm even crying now!!!!

I didn't know about the suit but that sounds about right! I don't think I've seen that film but I'll get DH to get a hold of it as I've heard its good... I was a bit dubious about watching the new Superman Returns but I cried all the way through that one too, even though it wasn't him, he would have been proud of it...

All my friends and family think I'm sad but I don't care - he was an amazing man and the only man who could really fly and change time - he was gorgeous!!!!!!xx

Chattyhan · 01/09/2007 14:57

MrsBumblebee - just consulted DP re what LO is like on delivery. DS was born on due date and was delivered straight onto my chest (t.shirt) he was wet and slippery but not dirty. No signs of blood or anything yucky. My t.shirt was soaked but if anything just a bit slimy not gross. My DP is squeamish and it didn't freak him out!

Hopeitwontbebig · 01/09/2007 15:37

PLP, I'm crying too!! Yes definitely get Somewhere in Time, it's SUCH a lovely movie, especially if you need to have a good cry, the ending is SO sad, you won't regret it. Jane Seymour is in it too. I remember the day he died like it was yesterday. DH was just getting into his car when I heard on the radio, I went rushing out in tears and DH came back in the house to console me, I then phoned my Dad and he was so sweet on the phone. I couldn't control myself, I was even crying in front of the children, but they understood, because they knew how much I loved Christopher Reeve. It was just so sudden and unfair. I desperately wanted him to walk again, and the awful truth is, I reckon he would have done.

The irony of it all is that DH could very well have ended up in exactly the same position as Christopher Reeve when he had his motorbike accident in November, because he suffered a spinal injury too, but 'luckily' only affecting his right arm. He was VERY lucky. Since DH's accident I have re-read CR's autobiographies and all the medical jargon means to much more to me, I even researched some of the doctors that treated him and they link back to doctors here in the UK that are treating my DH!

Sorry again ladies for gatecrash, think maybe PLP should email each other with details of our 'sad' love for Superman!!

I just wanted to update you all that my beautiful baby girl, Natalia Zoe, arrived by elective c-section on 25 August. She was 7lb 9oz and is thriving and DD1 is loving being a big sister. I'm also doing really well and feel almost back to normal
I hope all of you have as positive experience as me .
Love Filbrit X

dal21 · 01/09/2007 16:20

Feeling slightly more human after my nap - although still not 100%. Today is an off today after the stresses of yesterday!

Is anyone else experiencing an increase in appetite? Since this LO's bottom has settled into my pelvis - I honestly feel as though I could eat all day! Am spending my whole time snacking on pears and apples and resisting the sweeter things I have all of a sudden got the taste for...

I have also noticed that hormones seem to have changed. My skin is getting slightly spottier and my hair doesnt have the luxurious bounce it has had....anyone else?
Just wondering if I am the only one with the above symptoms at this stage.

Re the wiping of the baby - personally dont care how squeamish DH is; I am hoping for immediate skin to skin contact with minimal intervention/ wiping initially. Maybe its just me but after carrying LO for 9 months, think you have a right to make a call on whether you want to hold bub straightaway.

dal21 · 01/09/2007 16:22

Hey CONGRATS Filbrit!!! Welcome Natalia... and glad to hear that your recovery is going so well!!! Best wishes to you and your family!!

MrsBumblebee · 01/09/2007 17:23

CONGRATULATIONS FILBRIT!! And another beautiful name. We really need to get our name list sorted out .

Thanks for views on baby cleaning. Dal, I know exactly what you mean, but at the same time I'm feeling a bit guilty because this is the only thing DH has expressed a view on throughout whole pregnancy and birth planning - on everything else he's just said he's perfectly happy to support me in whatever I want. (Not that he's said he won't support me on this, I hasten to add - he's just mildly expressed a view.)

I might ask MW about what usually happens. Further issue is that I'd quite like to ask for the cord to stop pulsing before it's cut, which would presumably rule out any cleaning for a few more minutes.

Oh, I don't know, maybe I could have immediate skin to skin, then LO could be cleaned before DH holds him. Most likely, when it actually comes to it, neither of us will give a toss .

sparks02 · 01/09/2007 17:23

Hi everyone
Congrats to all those who have had their little one's....

Now for my news....
Our beautiful iris arrived at 4.52pm on Wednesday 29th August weighing 3.1kg. I had a completely natural birth in the birthing centre and spent a long time in the pool. It felt like a long time of hard work but it is so worth it all now - we are having a blissful time as a new family and can sit all day just staring at her.

Good luck to everyone and hope you all get to meet your LO's very soon.

Sparks x

CONGRATULATIONS FILBRIT AND SPARKS glad to hear your births went well and your are enjoying your new baby girls

Chattyhan · 01/09/2007 18:45

Congratulations Filbrit i love the name Natalia - glad you are doing well!

Congratulations Sparks and well done on the natural birth i'm looking forward to staring at my lo all day!

Dal i agree on the skin/hair front and it happened to me last time too. DP says i looked just awful before i went into labour last time! bless him

canadianmum · 01/09/2007 19:08

Congratulations Filbrit and Sparks!!!

Beautiful names for both girls, must echo the sentiment of getting our name lists sorted out....

Dal - I have actually had a decrease in appetite for the last week or so which is NOT like me, I also haven't gained any weight for 2 weeks, might ask mw next week.

re: nursing bras, I was told at Blooming marvellous to be measured at 38 weeks and they will take into account the increased size when milk comes in - but I have 3 now so might just wait and see which is best and get a couple more of that one. As for tops, I have bought one bfing top but didn't have any last time, but I was feeding twins and stayed at home to feed. I think the vest idea is a good one as I don't really want to bare my stripey podgy belly!

mrsmar - how are you feeling about planned cs? I hope that you are feeling relieved now that you just need one birth plan? I hope you don't mind me handing over the one major piece of advice that my wonderful consultant gave me last time which is as follows: Do not let yourself be in pain in the first few days after the CS, if they give you painkillers and you need them - TAKE THEM. That is the only way you can get up and get moving and that is very important for your recovery. The painkillers I had after my CS were fantastic, no drowsiness or nausea, just complete pain relief - heaven, wish I could remember what they were called!!

PLP - I am hoping my little one doesn't arrive on 9/11 too, although at least here we write it 11/9. Then again, that would be 4 days early for me which would be quite good timing .

twitmonster - are you still needing birth vibes???? If so >>. Hope that helps!!

I can't believe we are into September, I really never thought I would make it this far - I am 38 weeks today. I think my family are in shock too. Visited my inlaws today and my MIL only managed to mention that she hopes it is a girl twice! Very good going for her, normally she mentions it about 10 times .

Rin23 · 01/09/2007 19:17

Hello all

Congratulations to Loopy, Filbrit and Sparks!! Three gorgeous girls and love all the names, well done all! I am both for you and a little bit !!

Thanks for encouragement Lou031205 ? I for one definitely need to hear things like that. Really glad to hear your LO is doing so well!

I feel I?m neglecting the thread but I?ve been so busy this week with DH on leave and DSD with us. But it?s great to hear everyone is getting ready and prepared. I?m not expecting my LO for a while ? it?s not engaged yet, though she is head down midwife says she could turn easily as ?there is quite a lot of room in there? ?! So it?s all a bit of an unknown but I?m still doing my perineal exercises.

I?m looking forward to having time to myself next week! Also, taken up MrsMar?s idea of home delivery and finally had supermarket deliver ? hurrah! Love it, ice lollies on tap?

Re breastfeeding tops ? does anyone know where you can get them for large cup sizes?

Twit ? I?d put the same as you re cord and injection, but my midwife told me I need to decide on injection or not ? they don?t seem to take into account the cord pulsating. It?s really annoying as I think it?s just the hospital policy rather than based on any good sense.

Hope everyone has a lovely evening and isn?t too uncomfortable etc. I feel the baby is pushing up into my bosoms it?s so high, but at least this means I don?t need to pee constantly? though not sure which is better .

canadianmum · 01/09/2007 19:26

mrsfish - forgot to say that when my lo was breech the top of my bump was amazingly sore too. I found that a bag of frozen peas really helped and supposedly it can help them turn as they prefer the warmth at the bottom. Not sure if that is true but it might help your discomfort???

canadianmum · 01/09/2007 19:29

Just added "Baby Can I hold you" and "First time ever I saw your face" to my Birth playlist on my Ipod. Any other suggestions???

Sorry, I know I am a bit mad - blame the hormones...

emj23 · 01/09/2007 19:29

Hi all. MrsBumblebee - Re the squeamish DH/P's, mine when DS was born stayed up by my head the whole time so he didn't have to see anything gory and averted his eyes when the placenta was delivered.
I, on the other hand, wrote in my birth plan (pah!) that I wanted DS to be cleaned before he was given to me, but no. He was delivered straight onto me. I was so shocked that they had ignored what I said that I didn't know what to do, I just sort of stared at the lovely grubby little guy in a kind of 'Christ, it's a baby!' way...LOL
This is mostly why I might not be bothering with a birth plan this time. They don't read them anyway.

I hope that made some kind of sense. I suspect I'm rambling because I have raging toothache and hardly slept again last night.

FlossALump · 01/09/2007 19:36

Sparks and Fillbrit, huge congratulations to you both on your DD's. I'm guessing with our numbers we can surely expect dialy announcements of new arrivals can't we?

DS was born early and was covered in vernix stuff. DP is less squeamish than I am, and I'm not very and he was just delighted to see his new born son. I don't think those sort of things cross your mind so much at the time. The midwifes gave him a good wipe with a towel almost immediately. IMO this little creature has just been through a huge thing and needs a cuddle! Also I think many units are moving away from giving baby a bath too soon after birth as the vernix etc helps prevent the skin from drying out (although it really don't smell too good). HTH.

Hvaing said I'm not squeamish had a heart stopping moment earlier today. Out with DP and DS, and Ds runs off in the direction of a huge pool of vomit with (sorry about this) - lumps of sausage it. Which is one of Ds's favourites... I literally screamed 'noooooooooooo' at him as I could see what was about to go through his little mind and luckily, I must have sounded like I really meant it as he stopped right in his tracks, thankfully before he got to it. Everyone else in the vicinity stopped too mind must have been really loud!

Am generally trying to chill about the whole baby thing. I have 10 days left till due date. We're ready, and although DS came early there is nothing to say this one will. I'm just a little upset that all the health professional's I have met seemed to heavily suggest/say/hint that this one would be early too. I've stocked up on more RLT, went for the 50g this time as that should last me then until I need to be induced I'm hoping!! its a hell of a lot easy to chill out about the whole thing when your body isn't playing tricks on you making you think labour may be about to start though . Another plus is that the midwife who's look after me during pregnancy is back from annual leave on Monday, and she will be my first port of call if I were to go into labour for my home birth. Nice to have someone I trust hopefully coming to look after me!

Other thoughts that are keeping me going is that labour could theretically be over and done with very quickly, it was last time. Just as long as baby isn't spending all its time in there getting too chunky!

Hope you are all having lovely weekends. Tomorrow I think we have a day of chilling out planned with maybe a trip to the park for DP and DS!

FlossALump · 01/09/2007 19:38

Yes Emj see my DP was complete opposite! My mum was up looking after me and DP was there getting a perfect view [shudder] of what I have heard being referred to as the 'business end'. He also cut the cord and examined the placenta. [double shudder]

EdieMcredie · 01/09/2007 19:53

CONGRATULATIONS to all those who have their lovely babies. Loving all these names too

Cannot believe it is now September!!

NorfolkBumpkin I am also in Norwich. Which ante natal group did you go to, if any?

For those of you being referred for growth scans, please try not to worry, doesn't have to mean anything is wrong. My baby weighed 7.8lbs at 36 weeks apparently but was told it was cos placenta was doing such a good job at feeding her. No diabetes or anything.

Is anyone else drinking RLT? I think I am a bit wierd as I actually like the taste, I have it in herb form rather than tea bag form but im drinking about 3 cups a day.

Had to post on pregnancy last night as been in an awful lot of pain with the movements but was reassured that this is normal and I do find that a walk around normally gets her off to sleep seems mad that im trying to get her to sleep before she is even born!

Can't wait for some more birth announcments, are poeple going to write their birth stories in detail when they find the time? I love reading them on Birth Announcments.

Only 12 days to go for me.

Good luck everyone
