Hi, thought I'd start a new thread. Hope ou find this OK!

Just been shopping downtown and bought a fab paid of maternity pants for work.

Also bought "The Baby Name Wizard" as Borders were having 20% off everything. Feel free anyone to ask me a question about names now!! The book categorises them into the following "style families" (chances are if you like one name in the family, you'll like a number of others - e.g. I tend to go for "Antique Charm" names for girls which include Abigail, Adeline, AMelia, Anna. Annabel, Annalise, Ava, Bella, Clara, Daisy, Eleanor, Emma, Eva, Georgia, Grace, Hannah and Isabel):
African, Androgynous, Antique Charm, Bell tones, Biblical, Brisk and Breezy, Celtic, Charms and Graces, Country and Western, English, The -ens, Exotic Traditionals, Fanciful, French, German, Greek, Guys and Dolls, Italian, Jewish, Lacy and Lissome, Ladies and Gentlemen, Last Names First, Latino, Little Darlings, Long Gone, Mid-Century, Modern Meanings, Muslim, Mythological, Namesakes, New Classics, Nickname-Proof, Place-Names, Porch-Sitters, Saints, Scandanavian, '70s and '80s, Shakespearean, Slavic, Solid Citizens, Surfer Sixties, Timeless and Why Not?

Hi guys. Button has kicked like mad for past few weeks but nto felt anything since in bed last night - how long would you guys wait until calling MW? Keep telling myself I'm being silly but......just want a big boot to the tum and i'll be happy.

HOpe you all had a good weekend - crap one myself - jsut can't sleep and keep having horris hot flushes at random times during the day but a bit better alst night so fingers crossed.

Filing 5 months of stuff at work in prep for going off on Mat Leave - dull dull dull but if someone is going to take over form me I really need to give them something to work from - not just hand over my lap top.

becklespeckle · 20/08/2007 15:02

Sometimes they do have a quiet day Beanstermummy, perhaps Button has turned round and is kicking to the inside? I always find that chocolate does the trick if mine has been quiet (or ice cream). If that doesn't work then get onto the phone to MW for some reassurance - Button will probably kick you as you are talking to her!

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 15:02

Claraq - i think it doesnt matter about the colour. we are going to use DS moses basket and it is yelloow and blue and tbh we didnt even know he was a boy, but i look at it now and it is defo not girly, but who cares. Things like that i think it just doesnt matter.

I am going to check out that Boots breast pump, felt like such a chore with the hannd pump.

Boots electric breast pump links. I am thinking if it encourages me to breast feed for longer than a month then it has to be an investment right???!!!

MotherofZ · 20/08/2007 15:05

£44 Boots own bran, £43 for the Medela Mini one.
Got a sale on disposable knickers (found them invaluable last time), £1.50 for 3!

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 15:08

Beanster - I find if I sit in a particular position on the sofa the LO doesnt stop all night, however if i have a kind of on the go evening then i get nothing.

Does anyone know if it is ok to go to a concert whilst preggers - just thinking cos of noise etc. I desperately wannt to go to a concert of a singer from Turkey I absolutely love and she is here for one day in about 20 years.... it is at Royal Albert Hall so I dont think it will be rowdy or anything (which is my other worry as i will be ablout 30 weeks at the time).

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 15:09

I didnt like those knickers.... felt really uncomfy, I went to H&M and got some big black ones for soemthing ridiculous but cant remember how much.

Looks like Boots may be the place to grab a few bargains. Wonder if they have a sale on breast pads and maternity pads......

MotherofZ · 20/08/2007 15:11

I work with a health professional who is part of the National Hearing Council and asked him the same question about cinemas - as I was worried about the it affecting the LO hearing and he said it was no problem for pregnant women to go to cinemas and concerts.

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 15:13

Brilliant - my lovely mum and dad are buying my ticket for my birthday. Soooo excited and it isnt until October.

MotherofZ · 20/08/2007 15:20

What a lovely present! My birthday in 2 weeks time and DH is paying for me to get my hair done at a top salon. Must admit that I have neglected it a bit since falling pregnant so looking forward to a bit of pampering Have decided to cut the whole lot short with loads of layers and highlights; it's down to my shoulder blades at the moment and such a pain to straighten.

MamaMaiasaura · 20/08/2007 15:22

beanstermum.. dont think you need to monitor movements till past 24 weeks.

If you really want to encourage button to move try some really cold drink.

Beanie is waking me up everynite now.. practice i guess I havent bought anything for him yet either. Need to find my boxes of baby stuff from ds as got some nice bits in them,

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 15:25

That sounds so nice. It is our anniversary next week as well... we are hoping once my folks annd stuff are back to celebrate the bdays and anni together and I have seen a really nice package for mums to be at the Elizabeth Arden studio in London, have wanted to go for ages, so that is going to be my treat and DH wants to do some shopping, so i think we will have a nice day out.

My hair is such a state most of the time i had to have it cut as i wasnt even brushing it and it was just getting ridiculous. So embarrassing when i went to the salon and said "hi i need a hair cut but i havent brushed it foor 3 weeks".

MotherofZ · 20/08/2007 15:30

lol @MM. .
What do you get in the Elizabeth Arden package?

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 15:35

You get:

Special pregnancy massage
Facial
Warm cream manicure
Warmm cream pedicure
lunch
A complimentary make up session.

It all takes half a day.

MotherofZ · 20/08/2007 15:39

sounds lovely MM
Being a bit addicted this afternoon - do you have much work on? Keep getting side tracked.

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 15:42

Do i ever have much work on... i have been asked if i might consider coming back here after LO, but this role is just so mind numbing. So pleased nobody else can be bothered to work today and is keeping me company.

MotherofZ · 20/08/2007 15:54

it's a bit quiet as a lot of people are off this week.

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 15:57

I really cant be bothered to be here today just want to go home. My chair is really uncomfy today as well. I think it is going to be a long afternoon - here till 7 again.

Mrswizz · 20/08/2007 16:40

Mixedmama, snap!

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 16:45

I really just ant to lie down, the floor will do!

claraq · 20/08/2007 17:46

Mixedmama - you could always buy some ear muffs for your belly

Beanstermum - I know what you mean about baby not moving. I have had a few days when it squirms and kicks like mad; then suddenly realise I haven't felt it in 24 hours or so and panic; then realise I just haven't NOTICED it move - am too busy doing other things. I think it is when it is kicking inwards rather than out and therefore does not feel so strong.

Something really upset me today. I was walking down the bad end of the High Street and a woman was standing outside a shop with a baby in a pram, fagging away, screaming very racial insults at an older (late middle aged) Indian woman wearing a sari - I can't repeat what she was saying but along the lines of you f'ing p*i c*t if that makes sense - she was accusing HER of being racist saying she had hit her child because she (the child) was white!! (I doubt very much the older woman had done anything of the sort). Everyone was muttering and looking away in disgust - this woman was screaming at the top of her voice. I turned to look at her and she started at me - "What you looking at" etc etc - what do you do? The Indian woman had just walked away, I have no idea what it was all about but it's so upsetting to see things like that especially with children around. Sometimes I just hate people.

cazzybabs · 20/08/2007 17:49

Is anyone else struggling with the old pelvic floor - guess it is my age! or the fact I have already 2 children, but sneezing is not good. I think I may have to buy some tenalady! I am trying to do Pelvic floor excersies, but I fail to do anywhere near the required amount.

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 18:06

That is awful, but clearly she is just a very uncouth person. If anyone hit my child I would be up in arms but certainly would not use any kind of language like that in any ciircumstance.

cazzy - in the same boat, but am very lazy with my exercises.

insywinsyspider · 20/08/2007 19:49

itching to buy more baby stuff but can't justify it just yet - only have a small list of things to get as only had ds last year so have been saving up for 'luxury' things I wish I'd been able to buy before and trying to work out which double buggy - fallen in love with phil n teds one but its v expensive

got given cot bed for ds but can anyone work out why matresses are so expensive?? I was looking at one in mothercare before I realised it was £94.99!

cazzybabes - ditto on the pelvic floor, mw at aquanatal was trying to get us to do squats whilst holding our pelvic floor, I can move it but not hold it for long time... should I be able to??

also used Avent hand breast pump last time and it was great - think it was just luck to get one that fitted. you can hire electric ones from NCT and hospital if need.... know one mum who couldn't get baby to latch on and she expressed for 6 weeks - maximum respect, I couldn't have done that

cazzybabs · 20/08/2007 21:19

Oh I feel better! I am glad to know I will not be the only incontent person or have their bits fall out in old age!
