Hi, thought I'd start a new thread. Hope ou find this OK!

Just been shopping downtown and bought a fab paid of maternity pants for work.

Also bought "The Baby Name Wizard" as Borders were having 20% off everything. Feel free anyone to ask me a question about names now!! The book categorises them into the following "style families" (chances are if you like one name in the family, you'll like a number of others - e.g. I tend to go for "Antique Charm" names for girls which include Abigail, Adeline, AMelia, Anna. Annabel, Annalise, Ava, Bella, Clara, Daisy, Eleanor, Emma, Eva, Georgia, Grace, Hannah and Isabel):
African, Androgynous, Antique Charm, Bell tones, Biblical, Brisk and Breezy, Celtic, Charms and Graces, Country and Western, English, The -ens, Exotic Traditionals, Fanciful, French, German, Greek, Guys and Dolls, Italian, Jewish, Lacy and Lissome, Ladies and Gentlemen, Last Names First, Latino, Little Darlings, Long Gone, Mid-Century, Modern Meanings, Muslim, Mythological, Namesakes, New Classics, Nickname-Proof, Place-Names, Porch-Sitters, Saints, Scandanavian, '70s and '80s, Shakespearean, Slavic, Solid Citizens, Surfer Sixties, Timeless and Why Not?

OMG - everytime I log on there is a new thread! I can't keep up!

I have the most horrific backache - right down low where my bottom is as it where...it is really bad when I have been doing lots of walking as I have been on my holiday (we had a week in Wales in the cold! It was a truely british holiday sitting on the beach in coats etc with towels wrapped round us! still I would have been moaning if it had been too hot!)

For names I like Evelyn (evie) but my 2nd cousing (who I don't see that much had a girl last year and used that name so I am not sure about it). And god knows for a boy I want Noah (but dh thinks it is tooo sloaney) or William (but it is soo common a name not common in that sense just freqently occuring). so god knows what it will be called.

MamaMaiasaura · 19/08/2007 22:01

peanutbutter - glad you are all recovered. Very glad you posted about the upset tummy tho. Me & ds had very upset tummys and that might explain the horrid pains i had a couple of nites ago so very reassuring iykwim.

William is a lovely name one of ds's middle names.

We have narrowed our boys names down to 5 for now.

MamaMaiasaura · 19/08/2007 22:02

cazzybabs - sympathy over backache xx We were lucky in wales as came back last weekend and had a good couple of weeks of sunshine. Whereabouts did you stay? We were near cardigan bay.

cazzybabs · 19/08/2007 22:05

We were in criccieth, near Porthmadog. It was cery beatiful and loads to do. We went to Portmeirion which was fab. It was just a little too cold! We stayed near Cardigon last year (it was nice and sunny). I love Wales.

cazzybabs · 19/08/2007 22:06

Oh god Awen wish I had 5 boys names - I shall be be coming to you for suggestions come Dec.

MamaMaiasaura · 19/08/2007 22:06

I have to say i now love wales too (last holiday there i was a little one myself). DP even got a property magazine from estate agents So much space and beautiful countryside.

MamaMaiasaura · 19/08/2007 22:08

only got 5 because we know he is a boy. Helps as means we dont need to think of girl ones.

insywinsyspider · 19/08/2007 22:30

well instructed dh he has to do paint stripping in garage one night (he still thinks its far too early to be doing it anyway but really want ds in bed next month to get him settled)

no idea baout names - made mistake of discussing names with pregnant friend whos due this week and she's taken a liking to my favourite boys name aka friends stylee when Rachel likes Emma... trying not to discuss any more names with anyone because they either pull a face or think they'll use it first! buzzybee that book sounds fab

buzzybee · 20/08/2007 07:37

Deane is described as "an old favourite with a clean sound. Its square in the best way, like a letterman sweater or a formal dinner date" (this is an American book!)
It is one of the Surfer Sixties family of names.
One of the nice things about this book IMO is that it doesn't formally define names. I have to say I've been put off a number of names which I've found out mean something like "God's treasure" (apologies to any relegious people out there).

Sorry to hear about those tummy bugs . Fingers crossed have been remarkably healthy this PG.

Morning all ,

Hope you all are well and had a good weekend. Sorry to hear about the stomach bugs - make sure you have plenty of fluids! Hope all of you that are back from holidays had a nice time! Am saving all my A/L to have before my M/L in Dec, which seems like such a long way to go.

Went to a wedding over the weekend. Was not convinced that the food was ok for preggy old me to eat - i.e not heated up properly, left open (and I pick up stomach bugs so quickly), that decided not to eat anything, other than a few nibbles, for the whole duration of the event. Had such bad gasteritis by about 11pm at night so I made DH drive me to the nearest McDonalds! Never has Maccy's tasted so good!!

Thelady - am struggling with swollen feet as well - they really ache in the evenings. I've had to pop into Asda and buy a few cheapy flat shoes in a size larger.

Buzzy Bee - the categories in your book sounds interesting - exotic traditional, solid citizens???

Talking about names got Hannah, Laila and Aliyah in mind for a girls, still stuck for boys name.

claraq · 20/08/2007 08:52

Peanut Butter (and others who like William!) - yes it's a good solid name although obviously fairly popular...My dad was called Willy as a little boy (in fact he might even have been called Little Willy ) but I think I would rather shorten it to Bill, as he is now, or Billy or stick with William. I DID watch Child of Our Time last night and agree about the little William on there - I like that family, I think the dad is quite cool!
Some other boy's names that I like but almost certainly won't use as my DH won't agree include Leon, Huey, Morgan.

Mrswizz · 20/08/2007 11:04

Claraq, hope he was ok with that name, because as I've said before on this thread, DH really wants to call LO Willie (not Will or William).

Pelvis a real pain at night these days - am really getting quite annoyed by it. Started on the Gaviscon last night as my SIL predicted. Am getting heartburn quite a lot. Anyone else? Moan over.

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 11:09

Morning everyone,

Had a bit of a bleed on Friday night, not heavy and more like pink discharge, had a bath and didnt call midwife (stupid i know) but have been feeling mega movement all weekend and now cant contact anyone at the hospital anyway. Then to top it all off fell over in DS's room on Sat night. One of them weekends.

Thelady - I am completely with you on the money situation altho i think ours is slowly working its self out now.

MotherofZ - I love Leila but Dh said it is too common (in terms of lots of bengali girls caleld laila).

cazzybabs · 20/08/2007 11:20

mixedmama - what a worry! I am sure all will be fine. Can you phone up your delivery unit and tell them what has happened? That is what we have do if we can't get hold of our midwife.

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 11:47

Thanks guys. Managed to finally speak to someone. They said it sounds like nothing, as it wasnt heavy and didnt go on for a long time or anything and I have been feeling movement, but if I want to I can go and get checked out. Am going to think about it as everything seems to be ok and they dont seem worried.

becklespeckle · 20/08/2007 12:26

Hi all, hope you had a good weekend! Sorry to hear about your bleed and fall Mixedmama, glad all is well though!
Poor you with upset tum too Peanutbutter, thankfully, even when we are ill, baby will take everything it needs regardless!
Bambino, do you do a lot of walking or are far from your town? If not then I wouldn't bother with a buggy board for a 3 year old. By the time DS1 was 3 he would only use his on the way home from town (mile and a bit, mostly uphill), by 3.5 he didn't use it at all.
I am definitely one of those who feels that December is a very long way off! I finish work at the beginning of December so that should give me 8 months after baby is born until I go back (although both DSs were late so am not expecting this one to be on time!). I think I will go back to my evening job but give my daytime one up as although it is working from home, on a busy day there is no way it would fit in with a baby! I am sure that I am not as big with this baby as I was at this stage with the boys, I am wondering if that is because it still prefers to sit low down? A couple of weeks ago people were telling me how huge I was but it hasn't really changed noticibly in the last couple of weeks, sure I will have another growth spurt soon though!

becklespeckle · 20/08/2007 13:16

Baby now has first outfit too, my friend gave me a gorgeous snowsuit last night which she bought for her LO (due in 4 weeks), she bought it in newborn size and then realised it wouldn't fit her LO by the time the weather was cold enough for it! So now I have a snowsuit and a carrycot (in the post hopefully) - haven't bought anything else at all yet!

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 13:30

Its nice to do some shopping for the baby isnt it. I have a little box of a few bits. I have a snowsuit that we bought for DS but that he never ever wore, and a little outfit that he was goign to wear home from hosp but thenmy mum bought him something so he never wore that. I also have a really pretty blanket that we never used. Havent actually bought anything yet, waiting for my scan and then i intend to buy one outfit (assuming we are able to find out the sex) and we will need a cot. It is a little sad actually that we already have everything we need from DS and dont really need to buy anything.

MotherofZ · 20/08/2007 13:37

am in the same boat MM - saved loads of stuff from when DD was born. only need to buy a few more bodtsuits/sleep suits and defo want to invest in a good breast pump. Bought the Tommy Tipee one last time which was Sh!t.

mixedmama · 20/08/2007 13:47

I had the Avent one, cant say it was great but was good enough. Wish I could buy an electric one....

Yeah I need sleepsuits and stuff. Just before we moved in april i actually cleared all DS's stuff out as we had kept every item of clothing you can imagine, only to find out two weeks later that I was pregnant. Thats what you call sods law me thinks.

becklespeckle · 20/08/2007 13:58

Other than the cot and pushchair I have nothing left from my DSs! I need to get everything really but reckon I will still wait for a bit. I have just started doing an embroidered afghan for baby though, hopefully I will have the time to finish it before LO arrives!

MotherofZ · 20/08/2007 14:12

defo going to try and find if if there are any good,, but decently priced electric ones.

claraq · 20/08/2007 14:14

Glad I am not the only one who has not really bought anything for the new baby - think I am in denial at the moment...We don't know if we are having a boy or girl but if a girl will be fine as have most things we need for dd. If a boy will need to get some more clothes etc.
Do you think it is ok to use some pink stuff at home for a boy - eg we have a swaddle blanket but it is pink; the baby wouldn't mind and no-one else would necessarily see it...
Since deciding I probably would want another baby I started buying everything in neutral colours! (apart from clothes).

claraq · 20/08/2007 14:15

I am sure someone told me you could get a decently priced electric pump from Boots - lilke £30 or something? Probably not all singing and all dancing but hopefully better than a hand expresser!

becklespeckle · 20/08/2007 14:35

Am not going to bother with a breast pump this time - I never managed to get along with one before!
Am sure it won't matter about using pink stuff at home for a boy claraq, baby won't care as long as it is warm! I had all boy stuff and gave it to my SIL, she has used most of it for her 2 girls.
