Hi, thought I'd start a new thread. Hope ou find this OK!

Just been shopping downtown and bought a fab paid of maternity pants for work.

Also bought "The Baby Name Wizard" as Borders were having 20% off everything. Feel free anyone to ask me a question about names now!! The book categorises them into the following "style families" (chances are if you like one name in the family, you'll like a number of others - e.g. I tend to go for "Antique Charm" names for girls which include Abigail, Adeline, AMelia, Anna. Annabel, Annalise, Ava, Bella, Clara, Daisy, Eleanor, Emma, Eva, Georgia, Grace, Hannah and Isabel):
African, Androgynous, Antique Charm, Bell tones, Biblical, Brisk and Breezy, Celtic, Charms and Graces, Country and Western, English, The -ens, Exotic Traditionals, Fanciful, French, German, Greek, Guys and Dolls, Italian, Jewish, Lacy and Lissome, Ladies and Gentlemen, Last Names First, Latino, Little Darlings, Long Gone, Mid-Century, Modern Meanings, Muslim, Mythological, Namesakes, New Classics, Nickname-Proof, Place-Names, Porch-Sitters, Saints, Scandanavian, '70s and '80s, Shakespearean, Slavic, Solid Citizens, Surfer Sixties, Timeless and Why Not?

Hello all

Commiserations to those with back pain. My back's hurting me a lot but i've thrown myself back into physio exercises, which should've been doing all along. BUT I AM LAZY.

Pelvic floors - you need to do 10 fast ones (or twitches as my physio called them) hold for 1 sec and then 10 slow where you hold them in for 5 secs. I used to have excellent pf muscles but got lazy last few months and now they feel all soft. Maybe preggy hormones. But i can't remember how many times you have to do the sets. I'm doing three and hoping for the best.

I reccommend doing them in bed in the morning (after quick dash to loo!) and last thing at night (also in bed).

i'm now working hard at all those things you're told to do, but boy does it take up time. flossing, body brushing, rubbing oil in, extra water drinking, etc etc etc. How DO you women with children already do it all?!!

Thank you whoever said that babies in womb are often asleep for 20/24 hours. I'd been wondering cos my one seems to wake up and start kicking at 7.30pm which is perfect timing so i can watch all the soaps accompanied!

In other news - i had a naughty pasty for lunch, then fell up some stairs in front of a whole restaurant of people. It's a good look, especially with my (porn) breasts nearly falling out the top. Still, the waiters seemed to enjoy it.

JARM · 21/08/2007 14:44

neuro - with regards to all the stuff we are supposed to do - WE DONT! We dont get time! Im lucky to be able to grab a shower, brush my teeth and get dressed!

mixedmama · 21/08/2007 14:58

Yeah, second what Jarm said. No time for anything.

Neuro - my LO seems to be most active in the evening as well. Last night it was really far down in my fanjo (have been wanting to say that for ages, never heard it called that before but everyone on mumsnet seems to use it).

MotherofZ · 21/08/2007 15:11

Neruo - feeling impatient too. Have decided as soon as I am 36 wks going to do all the longs walks, spicy food, raspberry leaf tea business to get little one moving......

MotherofZ · 21/08/2007 15:13

Is there anyone else out the who thinks doing your pelvis floor exercise requires too much concentration???? Really got to think about doing it.....

mixedmama · 21/08/2007 15:20

Yeah I just tried and completely lost it....

Nbg · 21/08/2007 15:21

Hi Ladies
Hope you are all ok

Lots of kicks here too. Getting the Alien look now.
Still thinking of names too. I keep coming up with lists and lists but dh saying no to them all. Although he did pause at Oscar?????
(pausing means alot in this house!)

Spd still a pita but I suppose it will be until baby arrives.
I just want to cry in bed when I'm turning over. Its so painful!

Its my ds's 1st birthday on Thursday.
Really odd to think that I was so pregnant this time last year and here I am again
I have to admit I am looking forward to it a bit more now.
I saw a teeny tiny newborn last week and both me and my friend were awwwwing at it
Friend said "do you realise your going to have another one of them tiny things" lol.

Hows the buying going? Everyone stocked up yet?

mixedmama · 21/08/2007 15:28

Still got all the big bits from DS pushchair, sling, steriliser etc. just need a cot as DSs is now his bed.

Neuro · 21/08/2007 15:34

MotherofZ - pelvics, it's why i do them in bed, as i just can't seem to be able to do them whilst doing anything else. Weird.

Agreed! At 36 weeks i'm gonna take up trampolining so the little mite gets fed up and wants to come out into the world.

Nbg - you didn't waste anytime getting pregnant again then?!

On that subject, altho this is (only) my first baby, i have started to think about when i will have another. Any opinions on good age gaps, anyone? I'm tempted not to wait too long as I've got 5 years more of part time study til i get my Masters (aiming high) and quite like the idea of getting all little baby stuff/nappies out the way in the space of 2-3 years.

I also want to go off travelling again and think I can do it sooner if i don't leave it too long to have second baby. As i'm already 35, think i'll only be having two.

Neuro · 21/08/2007 15:35

Baby stuff - all i own is 1 outfit for a 6 month old!

But I am busy scrounging stuff my friends no longer want or need.

Mrswizz · 21/08/2007 15:38

Just seen my midwife - she was adamant that I was 25 weeks today, but I think I'm 25+5 and according to my previous notes which I've double checked I am right - and according to all those internet due date calculator thingies. She said all was well and LO was the right size etc, but if she's nearly a week out, do you think that makes him small?

Neuro · 21/08/2007 15:46

Altho this is all very new to me Mrs Wizz, don't you find that you'll have one week where you're really hungry and it feels like there's a lot of work and growth going on in your tummy. And then the next week it calms a bit, appetite easier to control and less tired?

Could be me just being daft hippy head, but i do get some days where i think wow it musta grown a lot today

I reckon (mrs wizz) a lot can happen in 5 days. And maybe you're a trim lady? I dunno how they measure babies unless it's on a scan.

Neuro · 21/08/2007 15:49

so from what you say, don't think you can say your baby is small.

And all those internet calculaters do vary in their estimations.

JARM · 21/08/2007 15:53

This baby is pretty much kitted out bar a new cot and pushchair which will be bought with the maternity grant.

(cot, mattress, bumper and quilt from kiddicare for £79.99!)

Age gaps - DD1 was 15mnths when DD2 was born, and DD2 will be 2.1yrs when DS born.... soooooooooooooooo 3 under 4!!!

This is it though, all over and done with, im only just 25 so when DS turns 25, ill only be 50!!! RESULT!

cazzybabs · 21/08/2007 15:53

You could just be having a small baby - think less pain! I wouldn't worry about it - if they get worried they whisk you off for a scan to make sure everything is OK. I imagine it is pretty inexact to be measure a baby - did she measure your fundal height - is that what you mean. I always measured small for dates - good stomach muscles! However, this time I will be measuring big I am sure.

NBG - I read your post as you were feeling a allen - I was thinking wow 3rd child and you look like Lilly Allen - you must be carrying it small.

MotherofZ · 21/08/2007 15:56

Talking about babies were your pregnancies planned or a surprise?? Both mine were a lovely surprise..

mixedmama · 21/08/2007 16:02

Neuro - about age gaps. We will have 22 months but had planned for DS to be or at least be nearly 3. i have 3 years bwteen my bro and me and that works quite well.

Mrswizz · 21/08/2007 16:04

Thanks all. Yes Cazzybabs, she measured my fundal height. I'm going to stop worrying now, I'm sure he's fine. He's kicking enough and his heartbeat sounded healthy.

I know what you mean Neuro, you can tell when you're having a growing day, bloated and stretching pains, then it goes off.

Motherofz, very much planned.

cazzybabs · 21/08/2007 16:08

NBG - me and your ds share a birthday!

Neuro · 21/08/2007 16:16

Planned

mixedmama · 21/08/2007 16:20

The dates thing is weird. I am due 31 Dec according to scan and internet things and 1 Jan accocrding to midwife - no big discreppancy, but i found one internet calculator that also lets you put in your cycle and that would make me due on 8 Jan. Strange.

Beanstermummy · 21/08/2007 16:20

mrswizz - with DD1 from around 30 weeks I constantly measured at least 3 weeks ahead - oh oh - big baby time - but no. She popped out at 7lb 14ox (pretty much average) - just loads ofwater and my flab being measured too. It could easily be the opposite for you. At the end of the day - if the HB is strong, your LO is wriggling around and you feel good - that's all that matters. Remember all these charts, weights etc etc are only average. Even the 38 to 42 week gestation is ave too - out of the millions of healthy little bubba's born each year some will always be outside average - and special

Fundal height is only a rough way anyway - and it's only right at the beginning that all foetuses (?) grow at the same rate so that they can be really accurate with dates - after a few months they will all be little individuals and grow in their own special way

Bored horris at work and so going to do one as they say in the trade

cazzybabs · 21/08/2007 16:21

1 surprise (me and dh had been going out for only 3 months - whoops)

1 very much planned

This one planned but a surprise - didn't expect it to happen so quickly after mc.

Nbg · 21/08/2007 16:22

23rd of August is a good day Cazzybabs

Neuro, this baby was soooo not planned. A huge shock and quite upsetting for me.
But whoever he is in there, he is very much loved already.
