Hellooooo there

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Lulubump · 07/09/2007 11:37

BeckyAu - what about a carpet with washable rugs that baby can play on? That way, if there're any instances of vomit on the rug, you can just put it in the washing machine. I'm thinking of maybe getting a soft sheepskin rug for the lo to lie on. I've heard laminate can be very slippery for babies when they're crawling, and when they're learning to walk - but maybe one of the more experienced mums can tell you what was best for them.

MotherofZ · 07/09/2007 11:38

Becky Au - we have laminate in our whole house and DD had no problem crawling on it. It defo is easier to clean when you have spills etc - just get out my Dettol mop with anti bacterial spary!
We bought a couple nice thick rugs for DD to play on in the living room and bedroom and she's never got them badly dirty, just crumbs which can be vaccumed up.

fluffymummy · 07/09/2007 11:39

I so so so knew this would happen ....just 4 days offline up in Glasgow and there's just no chance of me ever having enough time to catch up on all the posts....[sticks out tongue, stamps feet]...it's not fair, you've been having such fun conversations and I missed it all!!!

Altho I did spot that your scan went well MrsMc - so pleased for you

Gingeme - I'm absolutely gutted about this, but I'm going to have to pull out of the pizza express meet-up....work have decided that they need me in Manchester on 19th & 20th . So now I'm with MrsMc in being very of all the dinner crew! Can we arrange another one for November? Pretty please?

Grape has started doing proper kicks, not just wiggles, which I'm loving (altho I can remember how uncomfortable that gets at 4am in just a few weeks from now!), but no visible tummy movements yet. Looking forward to those, I think they're so fab.

I'm really looking forward to when DS can actually feel the baby in mummy's tummy. He knows its in there, and come to give it a kiss and a cuddle every morning, but he's only just turned 2 so I'm not sure he really believes in it!!

Guess I'd better go and do some work. Can anyone recommend where I can get a nice maternity suit? I've got to give a load of presentations at various industry events over the next few months and need something 'proper'...last time round I managed to fudge it a bit but this time I think I need a real suit.

Love to all, FM xxx

MotherofZ · 07/09/2007 11:41

Don't mean to sound snobbish - but it also depends on the quality of laminate floor. Been told that the cheaper quality ones can be a little slippery, but we've got the real wood flooring which is quite sturdy and non-slip.

fluffymummy · 07/09/2007 11:44

BeckyAu - we've got shiny wood floors through our whole house, including the stairs, except in the nursery because we thought carpet would be warmer and more soundproof. Definitely glad we did that, even though baby blue might not have been the most sensible colour

1001 carpet cleaner spray is magical stuff, and has removed all instances of poo, wee, sick, spilt milk and all other random substance abuse and mess we've created so far. The worst culprit was probably me spilling my tea in the mornings when I was BF!!

I think DS found it a scrap harder to start crawling and walking on hard floors than carpet (he finally started both when we were away visiting family with carpet) but once he started it made no difference. And he loved being able to slide backwards on the wood!!

gingeme · 07/09/2007 12:50

noooooo fluffymummy tell your boss how unreasonable he is. Doesnt he realise you are going to have a Mumsnet social life.
Beer is good for slugs. Yes realy. If you plant a plastic glass in your garden half fill it with beer they are attracted by the smell and drop in voila!!
You ladies are so good going to the gym and yoga. I just about have the energy to walk up to playgroup with my two ds's this morning. Mind you it knackered them out which was brill.
Not alot planned for this weekend as my parents are visiting so well play it by ear.
Dh starts his annual leave Sunday for two weeks. Lots of lovely lay ins

fluffymummy · 07/09/2007 13:00

I know, Gingeme, I thought about it, believe me. But then it occurred to me that I can't both hide my pregnancy and tell them I have to meet my pregnant mumsnet cohorts!!!!
I'll be 'out' in another couple of weeks (at the latest!) anyway. Will be quite a relief to finally tell them...!
Actually, I think I have to tell them by 25 weeks anyway, although I don't think there's any way on earth I'd be able to hide the bulge for that long....

Molly65 · 07/09/2007 13:46

Hello again,

I'm fascinated by what everyone is buying and doing for their baby's room. I haven't started shopping yet, but my sister, who had a ds about 7 weeks ago, plans to give me some of her things. I was waiting for the scan which I had yesterday. Things look fine apparently, and beanie had foot in groin, which made me laugh. I wanted to know the flavour and the radiologist thought it was pink, but wasn't sure. So it's easier to keep it a secret now.

Before I met dh I lived on my own in my house - with slugs in the kitchen. They got in from the back door and hid themselves incredibly well during the daytime. Once I went away and found some because my routine-change had duped them! Then, eventually, enough was enough and I put pellets down. Not very nice to clear up but it did the job.
Thanks for all the good wishes about the scan. Now, what else is there to worry about ...!
I think I share a due date with quite a few of you. (15th Jan) But I've a feeling it's going to be later. Byee xxxx

beller · 07/09/2007 13:48

dont know how you have lasted this long fluffymummy!
I have wooden floors downstairs..but im getting new carpet in the nursery....Dont plan to do too much feeding in there anyway? Would have thought either in bed or downstairs? We will see.....first baby and all!

MotherofZ · 07/09/2007 13:51

How have you managd to keep pregnancy quiet this long?

Got that 'Friday afternoon' feeling now, can't wait for weekend. Anyone doing anything nice?

Lulubump · 07/09/2007 14:17

Fluffymummy, you're amazing for having hidden your bump this long! How did you do it?
Gingeme's right - beer does have a weird attraction for slugs!
Had a lovely picnic in the park this lunchtime for a colleague's leaving do, the sun was shining, and it was such a huge effort to come back to work!

fluffymummy · 07/09/2007 14:23

I guess it helps that

a) I work in a fairly male environment (telecoms) where no-one really notices that much what you look like anyway...(it took losing 1.5 stone for my boss to comment I'd lost weight)

b) Big breasts (naturally, but obviously now even bigger!) can draw attention away from anything else, especially in a male environment

c) I seem to carry 'long' (top to bottom) rather than 'out' - so I get big all the way down but don't get a proper bump until after week 20

d) I don't have to go to the office every day (I work from home once or twice a week), and I don't even go to the same office every week because I travel quite a bit

e) My desk in my main office has a whole area to itself, even though we're open plan, so no-one sees much of me and I can put a jacket on or hold my tummy in to walk around

Even so, I'm also pretty stunned that I've got into week 21 without any rumours starting....!!!!

MotherofZ · 07/09/2007 15:02

A bit of excitment at work: another woman who is due her second baby in 4 weeks went off for lunch and has just called from the hosiptal to say she is having contractions!!

Angechica · 07/09/2007 15:08

Hi Molly glad your scan went well.

Ofpposite of fluffymummy here - it's oestrogen city where I work. I've just been collared at work and had my bump felt by a colleague, have had comments like Are you sure there's only 1 in there, and You look like you're having triplets, in recent weeks as well. Hmmm!

Don't want to be cross with people because they do great baby showers here. Everyone goes away with a boot full of goodies.

I think my stomach muscles were so lazy they just gave up almost immediately and I looked pregnant from about week 8!

beller · 07/09/2007 16:18

angechica to your forth coming baby shower! I work in an office of 300 men....what do you reckon ill get?!?!?!
Only comments I have had are hat a fine pair of boobs I have now..and pregnancy suits me! The MD even came up and felt my bump today
The only thing that will happen here is they will run a book on weight/date and sex!

MrsMcJnr · 07/09/2007 17:25

Hey ladies been busy and haven?t managed to get on before now. Hope you are all well

Barristermum I am so envious of all the home knitting going on for lots of you I think babies look so cute in hand knitted things LOL at the Judge?s alarm at your EDD. My boss expects me to talk to 350 people about my specialist subject on 1/3/08 ? yeah right! My new specialist subject at that point will not be one that a room full of bankers will want to hear anything about!

Lilyloo hello!

Awen sounds like a tiring day yesterday, no one you are feeling it today! Sorry about the mice

BeckyAu ? hope the headache?s gone; I?ve had one since last night too. That?s good news that you are ready to exchange! enjoy the wine! your job sounds very creative

Beller ? have fun tonight, I am impressed I?ve had to cry off my book club meeting, I am shattered and just want to veg! That concert sounds fab DH and I were meant to be seeing Prince on Sunday night in London but we couldn?t go in the end your weekend sounds busy, I have a facial tomorrow morning then my pussy cats have the dentist! Then on Sunday we are seeing the PIL followed by the Nursery Advisor at John Lewis ? will try just to listen and look and not buy!

MotherofZ ? hello you

Angechica ? sorry to hear about the slugs!

Lulubump ? interesting about slugs and egg shells! I?ve heard a few people talk about hypnobirthing, including my doula, will have a look at your link I?ve ordered a cosie to go to my first aqua natal on Weds night picnic sounded lovely.

Welcome back Fluffymummy hope it was as sunny and mild in Glasgow as it was in the East of Scotland this week. Thanks hon for being pleased for me Amazed you can still hide the bump!

Gingme ? enjoy those lie ins!

Molly65 ? so glad the scan went well funny that you think you?ll be later than 15/1 ? I think I?ll be earlier but that is only because most people in my family have had their first a few weeks early we?ll see ? I?ll probably still be waiting in Feb! So that?s 4 of us on 15/1 ? you, me, Barristermum and Sillysausages ? actually, GemTubbs is 15/1 too but we haven?t heard from her for a while (hoping all is ok)

Hardly anyone?s touched my bump which is just as well as it is often black and blue and sore from my jags but hey ? they are doing their job and that?s the best that I can hope for

Mixedmama ? was thinking of you today, hope all went well at your scan

Have a lovely weekend one and all!

tripletsandtwins · 07/09/2007 23:32

I have officially given up on keeping up with this thread ! I swear that I'm trying, but each time I read it, I get interupted by a cry of MOOOOMMMMMMY! so-and-so has nicked my toy! or a variation of that. So I never get round to posting, and then when I finally sort them out, I come back and you've posted 60 more times, so I sigh and give up, promising to try again another day!

Barristermum, I am also very jealous of all the home knitting, I never get time to do it anymore, but I used to love it. I agree with MrsMcJnr that babies look especially cute in knitted clothes.

BeckyAu I hope that the headache?s gone, I had terrible headaches throughout my last pregnancy, but this one I?ve not really had many. I would advise getting laminate and rugs, I won?t even go into the things my 3 have done to carpets... Carpets in darker neutrals I?ve found to be good. Wood laminates or sanded floorboards also seem good, just buy a bright rug and that makes them more welcoming. We have non-slip mats to put under all the rugs in our house to prevent them from sliding. If you can afford it, go for pure wool or a high-wool content - it is easier to clean and will look good for many years.

Angechica- sorry I have no advice re slug situation, but don?t slugs dissolve if you pour salt on them?

Enjoy your weekend Beller

Fluffymummy, I?m amazed you can still hide the bump! Mine is so noticeable, and it has been for ages!

Enjoy your lie ins gingerme! ?oh to have a lie in?

MrsMcJnr, I'm sorry that your bump is sore!

Mixedmama I hope everything went well at the scan.

Glad you're all enjoying yoga.

Have anyone else?s kids come up with names for their babies? DT1 wants them to be called Shrek and Fiona! [rolls eyes] you can see what I put on for them when I want some peace can?t you? They?re all over the moon at the idea of two new babies. As this pregnancy progresses and my belly grows (and grows and grows!) they getting more and more interested, and lately they have been making up ?when I?m a big sister/brother?? stories, which are so cute. All my scans have gone well so far, no obvious abnormalities, and we got some 3D/4D pictures of the twins which is kind of surreal ? seeing their little faces in there makes me wonder even more what they are going to look like, and who they will take after! Both babies are growing well according to the ultrasound, in fact my fundal height is measuring around 10 weeks bigger than a singleton pregnancy , so I really am getting a pregnant belly - not half as big as the last though!

Hope you're all well and healthy, and everything is going to plan!

MamaMaiasaura · 08/09/2007 10:48

tripletsandtwins just clicked your profile and your pohtos of your triplets are soooo cute. THe one of them asleep is absolutely gorgeaus This thread is really busy and your post was great (i never get organsied enough to post a proper one). I tend to pop on for a few minutes, type up something and then have to go do something else!

Scoreline now is Mice - 0 Awen - 5 (there is another one as the peanut butter was gone off the trap - yuck )

We are planning on going out to new forest today but the weather is all cloudy. Meant to be a big fat sun according to bbc

DP on the phone to work atm.. they call him pretty much 24/7 not cross at him but at work. Cant we have one weekend without them!

Right need to go. Love to all x

Cazzybaby · 08/09/2007 18:00

Hi Everyone

Arrived home from Portugal last night, have been trying to catch up with the thread so much has been going on!!

Started feeling LO move last week and now he wont stop, DP has also managed too feel a kick, and got all emotional and nearly cried ahhhh!

Glad to hear scans all going well Mine is not untill 19th Sep (same day as meet up).

I am busy packing up the flat as we are moving house this weekend very stressful after a relaxing week on holiday but got to be done.

kezzakezza · 08/09/2007 18:07

hi everyone! i'm new to mumsnet - finally gave in and joined! none of my girlfriends have children so i'm starting to get a little bit lonely i need to talk to other mums to be! haha! i'm due 13th jan. at last i'm finally showing - seemed to take ages! the one thing i really want to know is when is it the right time for the midwifes to get back in contact after the first appointment? (had mine at 10 weeks)
xxxx

MoominMum · 08/09/2007 19:10

Beller - thanks for that, will give pillow a try - baby has decided to change postition again, so at least can go either side now!

MotherofZ - am OK walking on flat but it makes me really hungry - any kind of incline, even one I wouldn't have noticed before really makes a big difference tho and if it's a hill my feet just slow right down and make smaller steps without even asking me!

MrsMcJnr - thanx lots, but honestly, have you seen the Smack the Pony sketch in the swimming pool changing room? - if I don't keep it in check it could make a bid for world domintion! I'm in Edinburgh and we only get one scan at 14 weeks so it's a lucky dip for me but I think I like it that way. Besides I'm disgustingly healthy (if not exactly honed!), I only felt ill for one week, so far we've had gold stars and brownie points all round from the midwife and my man makes me breakfast, packed lunch and dinner every day so I reckon I've no right to be anything but happy! Thanx again for the sleeping advice - makes a lot of sense - will let u know how it goes. Good luck with the house sale (? - am guessing), we're going to have to move soon too - it's all a bit scary! Sorry 'bout sore bump - try to think of it as tender and psychedelic and love it all the more.

Lulubump - cheers! - am a cream girl myself and am able to manage by feel so far, just can't be arsed far too often! Suspect it's not the tidiest job but man far too polite to say! He's agreed to help out with the shrubbery when I can't manage but I hadn't thought to ask him to do my feet - odd priorities I grant you!

Angechica - lol - you prefer Immac to vibrating rubber duck? R u sure?!!

Sillysausages - nice to have u along!!

Awen - Edinburgh is riddled with mice - best solution I ever found was a cat, anybody's cat will do, just borrow one for a week and the smell keeps the mice down for quite a while - nsg when one chases mouse into toaster and toasts it to death tho - bye bye mouse and toaster!! Who came up with the phrase 'quiet as a mouse' by the way?! Must be someone who never had to live with them - sympathies!

Sorry for the mammoth catch-up, will try to keep more up to date - just getting the hang of all this new fangled communications lark! Baby def has a regular pattern of activity now as well as getting excited when i do and when there's ice cream on the go. Feels like it has better fitness routine than mine by a long way! Love and luck to all, M.

LilyLoo · 08/09/2007 20:23

Hey all just about caught up again. Am lazing on sofa after what i think may have been my last social night out with work. We went to a hotel in Manchester. It was good but being designated driver meant it took me over an hour
rto drive home and drop everyone off so was nearly 1.30 this am when i got in.
I have decided to opt out of any more social's until next year as i have been soooo tired today. Am at some of you doing all these things.
I hope everyone ok , on the midwife thing i next see my midwife in 2 weeks which will be about five weeks since my scan.
And i would go for carpets in the nursery i think due to comfort and warmth imo.
Hope everyone having good weekend

MamaMaiasaura · 08/09/2007 21:40

thanks moominmama If we werent moving a cat would be an option ..

Was right about the little beggers.. now Mice - 0 Awen - 6. Last 2 were little ones

Beanie is bouncing around now. We had a nice day to beach and then to cinema to watch simpsons. Ds went to bed late and I was a crouchy mummy with him as he was doing the typical time delaying and i was impatient and tired. I keep calling Beanie Elliot and DP & DS are firmly in the Daniel camp and keep "correcting" me..

LilyLoo · 08/09/2007 21:42

Don't know how you coping with the mouse thing Awen! Snap went to see Simsons too tonight ds loved it me and dd were slightly bored to say the least.

MamaMaiasaura · 08/09/2007 21:42

Anyone heard from Mixedmamma, she had her scan yesterday i think.
