MotherofZ - I read that about the meaning too, both sets of grandparents will freak at either name

MotherofZ · 28/08/2007 13:53

freak as in disapprove of them? why if you don't mind me asking??

mixedmama · 28/08/2007 13:57

Prob cos people love to have an opinion.

My DH family told us to change DS's name after we had named him, he was here and we hadd announced it to the world - his name is Sami, hardly controverisal.

people just love to have something to say.

Just remember it is your baby - call the LO whhatever you like... they will get used to it.

beller · 28/08/2007 13:57

Mrsmcjnr- That is sooooooooooooooo cute!

MotherofZ · 28/08/2007 14:08

MM - talk about conincident! Sami is one of the names we are considering if we have a boy.....

mixedmama · 28/08/2007 14:13

Works so well for us MoZ.

Easy for Turks, Bengalis and english people. Perfect.

MrsMcJnr · 28/08/2007 15:10

MotherofZ ? ashamed to say that both sets are pretty small minded and quite racist so any name that is not run of the mill will not go down well. Hey ho! Aaliyah won?t be liked by either set as it has Swahili and Arabic orgins and Xavier is far too Catholic for DH?s family but DH and I love both names so that?s all that matters.

Agree with all you say Mixedmama ? just can?t believe that they tried to make you change DS?s name!!! Sami is a lovely name (fancied a guy called Sami once )

MrsMcJnr · 28/08/2007 15:11

Beller - I know ohh the cuddles in that!

mixedmama · 28/08/2007 15:15

Xavier is fabulous.... my friend called his son Xavier... i love it, didnt know it was Catholic, i just thought it was the guy from X Men. Very European. As for Aaliyah - could always be Leah/Lia or whatever for short if that makes it easier, not that you should have to accomodate them.

There was a moment where they called him something of their own choosing completely different. The hurtful thing was that we put alot of effort into something that would be acceptable to Bengali/Turkish and English culture. Needless to say we insisted on Sami and now he is Sami to the whole world.

OP posts:
mixedmama · 28/08/2007 15:16

MotherofZ - that is very weird that your daughter and i have the same name (albeit) slightly diff spelling and u considering Sami

OP posts:
MotherofZ · 28/08/2007 15:29

Wierd huh?
We've been thinking along the same lines as you - want a name that is Muslim with a bit of western influence (think I told you my name story previously). We also like Naeel for a boy too, I like the meaning of it (achiever, hard worker).

mixedmama · 28/08/2007 15:38

Naeel is nice...I do like some more traditional names but it seems that someone somewhere in someones family already has it.

I really like Isa but turns out that it means prawns or soemthing in Bengali, which I still cant get over as it is a prophets name, but there you are.

OP posts:
MotherofZ · 28/08/2007 15:44

That is funny - am going to ask my Bengali friend about it.

MrsMcJnr · 28/08/2007 15:58

Thanks Mixedmama

There are lots of Isa's up in Scotland - it is an Ancient Celtic name meaning "luminous." Incidently (and kind of freaky given the timing of your babies) the
Name Day is December 4 ?in memory of the 4th?century martyr St. Isa.

Quite funny actually, looked up Xavier on the same site and got "The name Xavier comes from the Spanish origin. In Spanish The meaning of the name Xavier is: Owns a new house" hey!? We were thinking more of
Saint Francis Xavier, a Spanish pioneering Roman Catholic Christian missionary and co-founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuit Order) weirdly his Saint's day is Dec 3 - too early for my Beanie!

mixedmama · 28/08/2007 16:03

Strange isnt it.

My brother has a very Islamiic name, but not exactly common which my mum allowed as it is my grandfathers name but not very English at all. Turns out years later that we found out it is a very common welsh name.

OP posts:
Naetha · 28/08/2007 16:21

MM - its not Idris is it?

I went to school with someone called Idris, and there was a renowned Muslim scholar called Al-Idrisi - always thought that sounded very Welsh! Sorry I can't believe I know some of the stuff I come out with!

My next task is to find a Welsh middle name that isn't unpronouncable, or will give the LO embarrassing initials

mixedmama · 28/08/2007 16:23

naetha - yes it is. that is fabulous that you knew that.

OP posts:
Naetha · 28/08/2007 16:56

I'm such a geek

Its amazing that I can store up all this useless knowledge, and yet still fail to remember if I locked the door every night!

Anyone else got a sore belly button by the way? Mine is feeling a bit sensitive - I guess its part of the slow journey from an innie to an outie!

mixedmama · 28/08/2007 17:05

i am a little like that - especially as i have so much time on my hands at work - spend loads of time reading useless info.

OP posts:
MrsMcJnr · 28/08/2007 17:06

Naetha - long live innies!

gingeme · 28/08/2007 18:35

Good evening ladies. I had my 20 week scan this afternoon. It doesnt matter how many times you do it its still realy fascinating to see all the little bits and pieces. We even saw the soles of the feet. ds3 kept asking if the lady would have a look at the baby in his tummy please?.
We found out the flavour and discovered we are having another boy. I must admit I was disapointed at first and told dh his sperm were crap but hey Im sure if hes as cute as all our other boys hell be just lovelyI have to go back in 4 weeks time for another scan as he's a little bigger than he should be. Think theyre worried about gestational diabetes.
Still I have an anti natal appt tommorrow and will ask my mw about it.
Well have a nice evening all. xx

mixedmama · 28/08/2007 18:39

Congrat Gingeme. So pleased everything is cool. Little boys are gorgeous tho, I think we have a little bit of disapointment if they say boy, but on the day I am sure we and you will be overwhelmed..on the sperm front DH thinks that if it is a boy he has super sperm and mentioned that he will donate some to a friend who keeps haaving girls.... about youhaving scan before me as ever.

He he

mixedmama · 28/08/2007 18:40

Oh, and I am sure the size will be nothing. Dont they all grow at different rates and things anyway.... miight slow down whilst other babies catch up - can you tell i have no clue what i am talking about.

OP posts:
MrsMcJnr · 28/08/2007 19:11

Gingeme I am so pleased that all went well, I sigh with relief every time someone comes back and reports that everything is ok, I so hope it is for my Beanie too. I can understand your initial thoughts on flavour, I am sure as time goes on you?ll think of a thousand reasons why blue is better I hope all is well in 4 weeks time at the growth scan.
