Due March 2020 - FIRST BABY in late 20's

lonelyonee · 24/07/2019 13:55

Hello!
Just wanted to start a new thread specifically for women who are in their late twenties & are having their first baby in March 2020! 🙂
Not trying to exclude anyone just think it will be nice to speak to women who are in the same sort of circumstances as myself. Plus the other March threads are pretty full!

Bit about me:

  • due 28th March 2020
  • 27 years old (DP is 24)
  • was on the combination pill for 12 years
  • been with DP a year and a half
  • SO excited as this is both our first baby (DP's ex had a miscarriage @ 10 weeks a few years ago)
  • feeling nauseous, boobs are killing, weeing loads & having cramps/pains.

Look forward to hearing your stories & sharing this experience with you! 🙂 xx

@lonelyonee WTF... and I nearly choked at paying £8.50 for four!! Robbing b*stards! That'll be on top of paying for parking too I guess? The parking at our hospital is a nightmare and £5 for the pleasure!!! 🤬

I haven't had any injections yet and not one midwife has mentioned it to me... are they really worth getting? I've not done much research into it in all honesty but I have just gotten over a nasty chest infection.

Oh bless you! I think we shocked people when we announced too, but we're usually pretty private with our lives so I really couldn't care less what other people think frankly! I've never been overly keen on kids I'll be honest.. 😂 but I've turned into such a soppy buggar now, my other half says I'm nesting now and when I see babies I cry... WHAT! 😆
I think the next midwife appointment is were they start to measure you, that'll be fun cause no doubt we're not putting on enough weight or putting on too much. Oh it's all fun!! But I am absolutely loving the baby movements I'm feeling but we think she deliberately stops when my other half goes to feel my belly.. lol! X

lonelyonee · 08/11/2019 21:26

@HighOnStilts yep!!! Absolute joke! Of course we had to pay for parking, why wouldn't we have to give money to a private company to park our car on the hospital? 😂😂😂 pisses me right off it's well out of order!
Oh really? Everyone I've seen has asked me about what I'm doing, I did it while I was there as it was just easier for me rather than making another appointment and faffing.
As I've said though no chance I'm having the flu one so they can carry on lecturing me all they like!
Haha yeah I know what you mean, I keep seeing babies at work and I'm just STARING at them. I must look like a right creep 😂
Oooo yeah! My midwife said we'd hear the heartbeat at the next one too which is pretty exciting! I did think about measuring myself but I'm useless I'd just forget so no point.
Yeah I've been told that my hospital like to induce women and get them to have babies early by telling them they are too big or will be over weight or something? I'm all for medical advice but I have to say I think mom knows best and instincts are there for a reason. Babies come when they are ready... I don't see any need to be intervening because they're making a guess at the weight. Which is exactly what it is. There's no way you know how much they will weigh until you give birth.
Me too! Lots of movement happening now! Might sound daft but I just want my bump to grow, I love my bump so much! Very strange thing to think/say but I wish it was bigger 😂 probably won't be saying that when I'm huge and uncomfortable 😂😂😂
When's your midwife appointment?

OP posts:
HighOnStilts · 10/11/2019 11:13

@T @lonelyoneehe parking situation is ridiculous isn't it!! Our infirmary carpark is absolutely HUGE and you can guarantee you're driving round for a solid 10-15 mins trying to find a parking spot.. so you have to make sure you set off SUPER early for your appointment 😆
I'm suprised no one has mentioned to me yet about having any jabs, I'm open to it but I want to know a little bit more about them before I commit. Although I think my baby is doing just fine, she sloshing about ALL the time which is overall a good sign! I'm getting to know her active periods as well which is really sweet.
I'm the same as you!!! I want my bump to be bigger, it is fairly big right now (my boobs and belly are fighting it out as to whose bigger) lol! I've had to order new bras.. that cost me £80 😳
We've just picked up a Snuzpod3 for £135 practically brand new and they normally retail for £200, we're also picking up a brand new ikea cot today for £60, someone was selling on fb and it wasn't suitable for them so it's still boxed! I've started buying clothes too.. I'm literally in heaven everytime I pass a baby clothes section 🙉😂 have you bought anything yet??
My midwife appointment is on the 3rd of December to be honest they've all been absolutely lovely (barring one moody bitch who barely spoke to me) but I take what they say with a pinch of salt, I know my body and I know my baby! X

jl2345 · 10/11/2019 20:40

Congratulations on all of the gender news ladies, I can’t believe we’re halfway already! Feeling proper little kicks now which is lovely, however I did wonder for a couple of days if it was my tummy twitching, but now it happens a few times a day I’m sure it’s little kicks! We have 20 week scan on Wednesday, always said I wouldn’t find out, now 3 days away I’m COMPLETELY torn! Ahhh! Hope you’re all well and feeling ok! ☺️

HighOnStilts · 11/11/2019 08:59

@jl2345 Hello lovely!! I know right.. half way there already, it's crazy!
Feeling baby moving is just fab isn't it. I'm fairly sure that what you'll be feeling is kicks! I never felt the 'flutters' to me I'd describe it more as muscle spasms. Good luck with your scan! 💙❤ me and my oh couldn't bare waiting to find out, it would have been torture and I do think it makes life a little more difficult when it comes to pre-buying baby stuff, unless you're happy to stick with neutral everything! X

lonelyonee · 11/11/2019 14:43

@HighOnStilts It is! I wouldn't mind if the money went to the hospital but it's private companies! Tbh ours isn't too bad, always seems to be spaces no matter what time of day we go, so can't moan.
I'm shocked they haven't considering how vocal they have been with me. Sod them though, they're our bodies, we will decide what goes in them. As it stands whooping cough is to protect baby before their first vaccinations (apparently it's quite serious in newborns). & flu one is in case you catch the flu because APPARENTLY you are x times more susceptible when pregnant, you are more likely to catch it than the elderly and it can kill you (massive eye roll... this is what the nurse told me at the hospital).
Yes lots of movement! Stronger kicks too! Although people keep saying it's bigger every time I see them so 🤷🏼‍♀️ maybe it's just me being impatient haha. I'm not blessed in the boob department so I've just bought some comfy non wired bras from primark which are a godsend tbh! & £10 for a pack of 3 🙂
Oh my god there's no way I could afford anything like that, I've only managed to buy a few bits such as nappies, wipes, a little outfit, some muslins & some vests/sleepsuits. My sister has kindly bought me a steriliser & is buying my travel system which is really helpful as I would struggle to buy them myself. Now people know we're having a boy I've started having clothes bought for him which is nice... but now I'm thinking shit I need to get a wardrobe for his stuff! Planning on getting a next to me crib from a discounted shop near me & watching out for sales to get anything else I need.
Ooo how come you've had different midwives? We have been assigned one and we've seen her each time, she's lovely! & yes I definitely believe in trusting your instincts over advice. It's part of the reason I want a natural birth as possible, I want to be able to listen to my body, and follow what it's telling me rather than a person who's not feeling what I'm feeling if that makes sense.

@jl2345 thank you, I know halfway through it's insane! Yay for proper kicks! Good luck for your scan Wednesday, I'd say go with whatever feels right at the time. I always wanted to know but if you want a surprise then it's up to you! Only thing is it's easier for people to buy for you once you know so.
Feeling all good thanks hope you're well too!!!

OP posts:
HighOnStilts · 12/11/2019 08:43

@lonelyonee I will probably mention the jabs to my midwife at my next appointment and see were it gets me.
I soooooo wish I could buy bralets, I'm a 34F at the moment and the range of bras available are either frumpy looking/expensive, or the straps are about a foot wide... lol!!
We actually bought the next to me crib and cot second hand but both were un-used. I wouldn't worry about buying stuff yet though, as long as you have the main, clothes, food, wipes, nappies and carseat, everything else can be bought as and when needed.
My other half came into some inheritance, it's bittersweet really as it was his nana who died but if we didn't have that money we certainly would have been a bit more careful about falling pregnant at this point as we'd have struggled to afford it. But people manage and you make it work!
I've no idea why we get different midwives, they've all been lovely so far but I do wish we had one assigned to us as it would be a bit more personal! Xx

lonelyonee · 12/11/2019 22:23

@HighOnStilts
Yeah I'm sure mine said you're supposed to have them between 20-34 weeks so they may mention it then anyways.
Ahhh fair enough sorry to hear that, even though it's sad it's definitely helpful and at least it isn't being wasted. I hate the fact I'm having to rely on other people to help me out with buying things, but my outgoings are just too high to realistically do that AND save some money to top up my maternity pay. Which is stressing me out to no end... I'm obsessive about my finances at the best of times but now I've actually made several spreadsheets... I've finally lost the plot ☹️😂
Yeah I feel like it makes more sense to see the same person but hey ho as long as you receive the right advice and support for you and baby!!! 🙂

I know what you lovely ladies mean about the 20 week scan, it was amazing, so much to see! Could have watched the screen for hours. Baby was somersaulting around and kicking the Doppler for the majority of the time! It’s so lovely too, I’ve gone from small movements, to what I thought were muscle spasms, to full on kicks within the last few days, my other half has managed to feel them too, which he loved even if he was a little freaked out at first! We’re also on the finance planning mission, my partner is in the middle of changing careers which is making things all the more stressful at the moment! We’re fortunate that we’ve managed to get a bit saved up over the past few months though thank goodness, just need to properly look at the finances though which I’m putting off! What Prams are you ladies going for? I still can’t decide! We’ve got an appointment at John Lewis next weekend to try some out, wanted to try a lid before hopefully picking up a block Friday or pre Christmas deal!

HighOnStilts · 15/11/2019 08:19

@jl2345 Absolutely amazing isn't it girl!!!!
I laughed when my little girl kicked the sonographer, seeing the movements on the screen whilst feeling her was bizarre though!
I hope you're other half settles into his new job, we're moving house and should be completed by January so we have that to look forward to/stress over before baby comes in March 🤣
As for prams we are getting the Stokke Xplory V6, its nice and tall as my OH is over 6ft and its slimline. Had my eyes on it before I got pregnant and some of the prams on the market are absolutely huge! X

lonelyonee · 15/11/2019 15:33

@jl2345 awww glad to hear! Do you have pics? Oh yeah there's no denying the kicks once they start... I'm being beaten up all the time now 😂 oh I've got a spreadsheet going now because we're so poor and I'm such a loser 🙈
Hopefully you're partner gets all set up in his new job & they will still give him paternity leave? Not sure how it works.
Pram wise I've been to John Lewis and had a look, I especially liked the icandy peach but it's ridiculously expensive and doesn't come with a car seat/base. So I'm going to have another look in my local shops (recommended by colleagues through their Facebook pages) which will be a little cheaper and have more to choose from. Thinking I may end up with a Venicci as they seem high quality and good value for money.
P.s. the sales assistant in John Lewis told me to specifically wait for Black Friday as they are having some decent deals on pushchairs/travel systems.

@HighOnStilts oooo how did you decide? Which ones did you hate? I hated the silver cross ones, too heavy and fiddly for my liking personally. Aww yeah you've got the house move, it's exciting! I'm sure you'll be all sorted before baby comes though. I'm going to be cutting it very fine if we move, looking on the sites every day for something decent and having no joy... the joys of renting! 🙄☹️ but need to get out of the apartment ASAP... the stairs are going to be a problem.

Hope everyone is well as always!!!!

OP posts:
jl2345 · 16/11/2019 08:32

@HighOnStilts thank you, I’m sure it will be fine, the main thing is we’re struggling to plan as we don’t have things like his exact income yet which will massively play a part, I’ve just had to tell family and friends that we won’t be going overboard this Christmas, but everyone completely understands so that’s fine! Ooh, I’ve seen the Xplory’s, if you look on the Pramworld website they have some amazing offers on them for Black Friday, I think they’re out of stock at the minute but definitely worth keeping an eye on! It’s a company that was recommended to me a while ago :)
@lonelyonee not sure about paternity leave etc, think we’re just going to have to wait and see, I’m fortunate to have a close and supportive family if not who I’m sure will be on hand anyway, would just be a shame for him for bonding with the baby over the first few weeks, not that I worry as I know he’ll be an amazing Dad regardless. Yeah, the John Lewis is a free consultation appointment, but with both Mothercare and mamas and papas closing where I live I have no option as there’s nowhere close to go and try some out. Hoping to just go and get an idea of a couple of brands or models that we like and go from there. Feel so much more relaxed about starting to get things sorted after seeing the baby so active and healthy at the scan though! We’re on project ‘clear out the nursery’ this weekend!

Also these are the photos, look at its little hand in the bottom one 🙊

lonelyonee · 16/11/2019 09:23

@jl2345 awwww he's saying hello! 🥰🥰🥰
I'm a massive hypocrite for saying this but I'm sure it will work out fine for you so don't stress over it. Surely he can take holiday or unpaid leave if need be?
Although it's great that you have supportive family around you also!
Aww I wish I could sort the nursery out but with wanting to move so close to my DD obviously I can't ☹️ I do have screenshots on my phone of what I want to get/ideas of how it should look though. Keep telling myself it doesn't matter because he'll be sleeping next to me for the first few months at least but still sad about it.

Has anyone thought about who they are having at the birth? Or birth plan? I've started writing everything down in my pregnancy journal as a reminder to me & OH what I want/don't want, although I'm quite sure I'll be able to tell doctors/midwives straight myself no matter the pain (I hope).

I had my 20 week scan this week, still a girl!!!! Loved seeing all the detail.

I've bought soo many things from eBay. I got an I candy travel system for £25! Excellent condition but I've given it a big wash and it looks new! I've bought tons of clothes bundles that were like £4 each including postage! I got a nursery bedroom set from gumtree first £100 and its excellent condition and sells for nearly £1000 in mamas and papas! I took advice from my sister, she said but clothes etc second hand because they wear them for a matter of weeks before growing out of them and she's always looking for bargains. Obvs will buy mattress and car seat new but I feel so happy with my savings as we're getting married soon after the baby is born...
seriously, it's amazing what you find on gumtree and eBay!!

lonelyonee · 18/11/2019 21:58

Hey @eskimod that's a good idea I'll have to have a look see if I can find anything decent.
Aww lovely glad it went well 🙂

Is anyone else feeling really overwhelmed at the moment? I'm finding I'm so angry at everything as well... obviously putting it down to hormones but it's gotten a little much today tbh ☹️

Hi all, is it too late to join? Due 10 March with a little girl. First time mum, I’m 30 (is that allowed as just turned) and partner 26. I’ve been suffering with antenatal anxiety/depression since the beginning and on Sertraline. Anyone else suffering? I’ve bought quite a lot, went for the silvercross coast pram and mokee Moses basket. My placenta is at the front but I’m still feeling lots of kicks and movement which I like. Just feeling very daunted and not sure I’m excited for the future but think that’s anxiety taking over. I’m also gagging for a wine Grin . How do i start chatting with you all? So much to catch up on! X

lonelyonee · 01/12/2019 15:04

@firsttimemum032020 never too late to join! Congrats btw 🙂
Yes super suffering with depression/anxiety on and off. Pretty sure I'm experiencing pregnancy ocd as well. Lists are taking over my life! Sorry were a little dead atm but just comment with little updates or questions and we talk about what we're going through too.
For example I was wondering on people's thoughts regarding a christening?

OP posts:
jl2345 · 01/12/2019 18:24

Hi @firsttimemum032020! I haven’t suffered from depression as such, just SUPER moody and emotional most of the time! For example I cried the other day because I had to do a food shop 🙈 I bought a pram in the sale last week ladies! It’s the mamas and papas ocarro, got the bundle travel system and we totally love it, I was so sad to pack it away again, it’s being stored at my Grandad’s until the baby arrives. @ I’m indifferent in relation to christening, my partner isn’t religious in the slightest though and isn’t christened himself so I don’t think we’ll be getting the baby christened. I’d still like it to have ‘godparents’ as such and have some sort of celebration/recognition of this but unsure at the moment. What are your plans?

jl2345 · 01/12/2019 18:25

Sorry @lonelyonee for some reason it didn’t add the tag (blaming the phone, it’s more likely baby brain at the moment which seems to be horrendous, that’s my excuse anyway 🙄🤦‍♀️)

lonelyonee · 01/12/2019 20:01

Hahaha @jl2345 I know the feeling dw!
Oh wow go you! I'm having a bit of a nightmare with travel system buying due to my sister offering to buy it for us... so obviously as she's a massive snob it's going to end up being ridiculously over priced and probably something completely unnecessary. (But we cant really afford to buy it for ourselves so not moaning, just wish she'd get a crack on and listen to me panicking that some have several week waits!).
Well we're both christened (him Catholic me CoE), but neither of us believe and cannot stand the thought of all of the religious stuff. BUT we do want legal godparents so not really sure where we stand with regards to that? I know people do naming ceremonies but I don't think they're legal?

Ooo forgot to say earlier I'm getting bad carpel tunnel in my left hand/wrist. It's quite painful tbh 😔

OP posts:
HighOnStilts · 02/12/2019 08:39

Good morning girls, hope you are all well. So sorry to hear your struggling @jl2345.
I've somehow got this new surge of energy and an extremely active baby!! She kicked me so hard last night I heard my water slosh! Never had such a severe sh*t myself moment in all my life 😂

I really want to start nesting now but we wont be complete on the new house until Jan at the earliest, it's mega frustrating! 🙁

Anyone else struggling with clothes at the moment? I had a big haul on ASOS and Boohoo for maternity gear but I feel massive already!
I've got my 24 week midwife appointment tomorrow and hoping I'm measuring as should be.

As for Christening.. no chance. I'm not forcing religion on my little one and they are boring as hell.. was at one recently for twins, and some other randoms babies too.. which was a bit weird but my god it was the longest hour of my life and the church pughs are uncomfortable AF lol.. not good when pregnant 😂 but each to their own!

This is my bump now!! How are you girls looking? Would love to see some bump pics! 💕

Due March 2020 - FIRST BABY in late 20's
lonelyonee · 02/12/2019 15:20

Hey @HighOnStilts !!
Oh my god. You heard your waters slosh? That's a thing? 😮 glad you're doing well though.
I'm just wearing my work maternity clothes and then just my big fluffy pjs at home. If I do go out I've got a pair of jeans and some leggings which I'm just chucking oversized jumper dresses over.
Yeah I'm not religious but I like the idea of the ceremony. I just couldn't stand there and lie about it. Also I find that the priests are a little awkward at best so it's hardly a fun watch for everyone else either! We shall see.

Ooo yay bump pics! This is me last week @ 23 weeks pregnant.
