@TheCraicDealer that list looks fine. Although I am never seen without make up, minimum is a bit of B.B. cream and my eyebrows. But after Dd I couldn't give a shiny shit. And I left hospital in the clothes I arrived in.

I had another bag packed at home in case I was in a bit longer with more clothes, undies, pads etc and more clothes for the baby should we have been kept in for longer than 2 nights. I didn't need it but it meant the bag I had with me was tiny. Which was handy because the wards aren't spacious.

You might want some non perishable snacks too. Dried fruit is a good one, makes your first poo a bit more bearable. Plus the food in the hospital I had Dd in was crappy, I never felt like eating it, much preferred to snack. DH bought me in nice sandwiches and fresh fruit, but being up most of the night trying to feed the snacks came in handy!!

Oh and names for us, my favourite is Lily with Sophia as a middle name. DH likes Harper. I like it but immediately think Beckhams. I haven't got anything against the Beckhams at all, but I'm not sure I'm completely taken with it.

If he got his was with Harper, Lily would be a middle name. But again I'm not sure I like those two together!

happydays00 · 06/07/2019 22:02

@TheCraicDealer what about a hat for the baby? My DD was a December baby (the hospital was still hot as hell then) but they insisted the hat went on straight away. Anyone who has had summer babies before - do we need hats for the baby?!

IVEgottheDECAF · 06/07/2019 22:10

When i had dc4 (aged 2) i was told no hats indoors. He was an October baby. But i would have one anyway.

Stroan · 06/07/2019 22:13

@happydays00 I'm not sure. My hospital gave us a hat, I had one but they popped a gorgeous hand knitted one on her and we got to keep it. But she didn't wear one after a few hours, the hospital was hotter than the sun.

Lactulose is another hospital bag must-have for me! Pushing a baby out of my body? Okay then. Doing a poo afterwards? Absolutely terrifying. (But totally fine, because I'd been swigging lactulose!)

KnobJockey · 06/07/2019 22:23

29/30 weeks, so a couple of weeks behind you Stroan.

I've actually been sorting through our gear tonight, and attempting to pack the bag. Babies is:
3 x outfit with bodysuit, sleepsuit, cardigan, thin hat, mitts and socks, 7.5 lb size
5x bibs or muslins
Half a pack of nappies
Pack of wipes
Jacket/ thick cardigan
Blanket
Pack of ready made milk- even if I decide to breastfeed, I've heard that they don't let you out until you've shown you're okay, and I'd much rather give a bottle and try again at home.
Might pick up some vaseline/ bum cream now you've said that.

I've actually got 3 sleepsuits/bodysuits in up to 10lb in there too, but that's hopefully not going to be needed!

IVEgottheDECAF · 06/07/2019 22:32

I havent even bought anything smaller than upto 10lb size!

KnobJockey · 06/07/2019 22:34

Decaf, my DD was 6lb 3.5, and even the 7.5lb stuff buried her! Measuring big on the bump so far though, so probably not a problem I'm going to have again!

Florencenotflo · 06/07/2019 22:37

Same here @IVEgottheDECAF they grow so quick anyway, Dd was 8lbs 10 and was out of anything saying up to 10lbs in about 2 weeks because she was quite long anyway!

I really need to pull my finger out. I need to get all of DD's stuff out of the loft and sort through it all. Some won't be any use a second time but most of it should be ok. So I need to wash it all and find it all a home. Hospital bag is my next job! 32/33 weeks here and feeling completely unprepared 😂 you can tell it's my second! But we are off to Centre Parcs Monday so packing for that has to come first!

Stroan · 06/07/2019 22:39

I've got a handful of newborn vests and two babygrows but doesn't look like I'll be needing those. Stocked up on up to 1 month and up to 3 month stuff in Next today.

I'm just realising how lucky we are with our hospital, they provide nappies, cotton wool and wee bottles of ready made formula. Still taking my own nappies but not too many. Last time, they even supplied Medela nipple shields.

IVEgottheDECAF · 06/07/2019 22:40

My last baby was 8lb 9. I am thinking this one will be around 9lb.

31+2 here. Started buying bits for the baby but not put any of it together yet.

Also have few bits to get out of the loft and check they are okay!

IVEgottheDECAF · 06/07/2019 22:42

Our hospital have provided the little bottles of formula for all of my four. But each time its been said before that they wont. I dont think theyre meant to say they do incase its seen as encouraging FF. I always take my own incase i do need them!

They always have nappies and maternity towels knocking about too

Stroan · 06/07/2019 22:43

@ivegotthedecaf have all your babies got progressively bigger?

IVEgottheDECAF · 06/07/2019 22:44

They have stroan!

7lb9
8lb1
8lb6
8lb9

Stroan · 06/07/2019 22:48

Eek, really hoping I don't follow that pattern!

iano · 06/07/2019 23:28

Gah what's this about packing bags?! I'm not ready for this sort of talk Grin
My last baby was 9'6 so we'll see what this one's going to be. I look huge. But apparently he's average according to the growth scans I'm having every 2 weeks.

Karigan195 · 06/07/2019 23:33

My last was 9lb but I ate ridiculous amounts last pregnancy. This time round I have been more strict with my diet and kept up the exercise as long as possible. So far baby is tracking straight up the 50th percentile so 7lb 6 estimate at present

OP posts:
Stroan · 06/07/2019 23:51

My diet has been SO much better this time, and I'm losing weight everywhere except the bump, but he's still measuring ahead of DD, who was 10lbs 3.

On one hand, I feel better about DDs weight and realise it probably wasn't my fault! But I would have really liked a nice average sized one this time.

Dipsy77 · 07/07/2019 05:39

Up at silly o’clock can’t get comfy or sleep and then start overthinking things !!
Is anyone else claiming maternity allowance ? I know it can take a while to come through, I sent mine off on the 10th June received my payslips back the following week and since then I’ve heard nothing. I haven’t had my matb1 back and I’m worried that I’ll wait 6 weeks (which is what it said on the automated message when I rang the helpline don’t contact us before 6 weeks) to be told they can’t find me on the system or something stupid like that. I lost my job in December and my garden leave ended in March I was in a high paid job so I really do need this money even if it is a small amount - sorry for the long post just pregnancy hormones going haywire I think !!

kyles101 · 07/07/2019 06:33

@Dipsy77 no sorry. At least it's not too long before you can chase up? They'll find you I'm sure, it will be fine - everything with government departments takes about 10x as long as it should do I find. It's unsettling not having control though isn't it? Was up every hour or 2 last night too... I'm getting seriously fed up of sleeping on my side...

IVEgottheDECAF · 07/07/2019 06:41

Dipsy i sent mine off last week, i had a text on Wednesday confirming they had recieved it and saying i should have a decision in 6 weeks. I havent had my payslips back yet. I am not sure if we get the matb1 back as i dont think you would if claiming SMP from work

Dipsy77 · 07/07/2019 06:57

I haven’t had a text that’s what’s concerning me too, I might ring them on Monday just to make sure I’m in the system

IVEgottheDECAF · 07/07/2019 07:08

Did you get a note or anything with your payslips?

Dipsy77 · 07/07/2019 07:16

No nothing just came back in a brown envelope, I’ve just googled and found some info that says once you get your payslips back your claim is in the system so count 6 weeks from then so hopefully should be ok 😊

IVEgottheDECAF · 07/07/2019 07:29

Thats good! You will have to let me know when it comes through as your a couple of weeks ahead of me with the claim!
