Christ, I absolutely hope scans do not cause autism etc. I had one at 8 weeks due to concerns I had an infection of the womb, one at 12, 14, 16, 20, 28, 29, 30 and now two a week so please don't share anymore horror stories 😳😳

Happydays I wouldn't worry, of all the nonsense people have suggested to me that might have caused my eldest to be on the spectrum no one has ever mentioned an ultrasound.

@happydays00 no no I really didn't mean that I'm so sorry- I meant file under "really complicated stuff that is never going to be caused by one thing in any straightforward way and is really really hard to understand!"

Ie not something to worry about!

Thanks @DustyDoorframes and @Stroan. Tbh if I come back after mat leave and he's still being awkward he can shove the job up his arse. Recent interviewing for my role and the standards out there in my area has really given me the confidence to walk if needed. Usually I get an annual bonus so that's the main thing I'm worried about pre leaving now - but if I'm not going to get this then his suggestion of "calling in once a week" will disappear faster than my dh when I mention housework.

Bought a couple of dresses in the JoJo sale a while ago as I knew I'd want some about now with plenty of room and they happen to be nursing friendly, otherwise mainly going for the layering with a vest top look. That and a Muslin draped over the shoulder for latching on. I don't really like those apron things personally as I think it gives off a vibe that bf is something to be ashamed of or keep hidden. But that's entirely personal and if it makes anyone feel comfortable enough to do it when out and about then fab.

I think I have a very unsociable baby - every time me or dh rub tummy we get a kick or disgruntled fidgeting!! We are gentle honestly!!

Just back from triage for reduced movements. Heartbeat was fine but baby still not moving much so they said to go back if it doesn't pick up! They also struggled to find the heartbeat at one point and had to get a doctor in to scan so that was a bit stressful!

DustyDoorframes · 06/07/2019 17:32

@kyles101 calling in once a week????? That's loopy! Although to be fair may be what it takes (if you decide to play that game...). V glad you are feeling confident in being v employable!
He does realise that ANY work stuff on a day counts as one of your 10 KIT days, right?
@Littlehouseinthebigcity ouf that sounds stressful. Hopefully movement will pick up shortly and you can put your mind to rest?

Report
kyles101 · 06/07/2019 17:39

@DustyDoorframes I'm not convinced that he knows kit days are payable at a usual day rate... I think he thinks they're an entitlement!! He's married to someone that used to be (prior to children and becoming a SAHM) in HR - believe it or not she used to get involved in our hr from time to time and told a poor girl who handed her notice in prior to returning from mat leave that she could make her repay all of the (statutory only) maternity pay that we'd paid her!!

@kyles101 you’re still entitled to the bonus because you’re still employed. They may want to pro-rata it for the amount of time you worked but even that you could argue on
Maybe with the kicking baby is just letting you know they’re ok and still there. May be happy kicking as opposed to bad!

kyles101 · 06/07/2019 18:06

It's annually based on our financial year which has just ended - hence I've worked the full year and should be entitled to it in full...

hopefully happy kicking! I do feel bad because it's usually only the weekends when I can enjoy thinking about baby being here etc. In the week everything's just a bit stressful and busy. Can't wait to finish now and then hopefully I'll be able to concentrate on bump a bit more!

@DustyDoorframes oh dear about sums it up 😂

@DustyDoorframes thank you for the advice and info on breech babies, really useful.
I've had 4 scans so far: 1 before 12 weeks (maybe 8?), 12 weeks, 20 weeks and 30 weeks. Got another at 34 weeks and so far no more planned. Never considered health risks to the baby and don't like the idea that they might be. Will try not to think about that.
On another note, we have finally decided on a name and it feels really exciting. I've never settled on a name before until after the babies were born. Has everyone else got names already? I had a long list and was really beginning to worry then I just saw the name and knew, that's it!

We're 95% set on Claudia. We were between that and another name and started referring to bump as Claudia/Clauds to see how it stuck and that was that.

My parents hate it, mostly because they have very strong (negative) feelings about Claudia Winkleman 😂

Report
Stroan · 06/07/2019 21:19

We're completely set on Ruairi. It's the only boys name that we've both ever liked within our strict criteria! It would have been DDs name of she had been a boy.

I've even bought a metre long name sign for his wall. So it's definitely Ruairi.

@thecraicdealer Claudia is lovely!

PGP is kicking my ass today, I tripped earlier and jarred my hip. Tried to get off the sofa and stand up, but somehow slid off it onto my knees and got completely stuck.

I'm really worried about how much worse it could get. So far, it's only really bad at night but I can cope during the day so still manage to get to work and look after DD. Anyone with experience? Will it get a lot worse?

kyles101 · 06/07/2019 21:30

@TheCraicDealer Claudia is lovely! I remember your choice from before @Stroan - Ruairi is so unique I've never heard of it before, love it.

For us, boys name was a given - Billy after dh sadly departed and very missed father. We will christen William though and shorten to Billy. For a girl we have Eleanor, a play on a family name on my side.

For ladies in the know, I'm starting to think about hospital bag and pjs, so, will pj bottoms (thinking with strappy top so will be easy to feed in) that fit now with a bit of room fit post popping out baby? Obviously bump will grow in the next 9 weeks (I assume - how much by? Hopefully not too much??) but then it will go down a bit straight away... right? Don't even know if this is something I can google?

We are calling ours Noah :) it's the one we could agree on, feels more real now he has a name

Stroan · 06/07/2019 21:38

Thanks @kyles101 it's Irish but there's a Scottish Ruairidh too so it fits with both of our backgrounds. And people in Scotland will be familiar with it.

I've got PJ bottoms that fit under the bump now for in my bag, super stretchy to allow for the bump hanging around plus C-section scar. Just cheap Primark black ones.

A back up nightie is always a good shout too, in case you can't wear bottoms immediately after birth (catheter for example).

I want a sign too! Grin Ruairi is a great name, you don't hear it too often up here but it is nice. Definitely underused. William is a family name too kyles101, my little nephew is William (after my DDad and DGranda) and gets Will- so cute! It's a really versatile name.

I've got a hospital list going and it's ridiculously long. I keep wondering if I need it all but I don't see any dead wood I could cut! Would welcome thoughts from any second(or more)-timers:

For me
⁃ Nightie for birth
⁃ Nightie for after
⁃ Soft jammies
⁃ Flip-flops
⁃ Tena lady pants
⁃ Knickers
⁃ Maternity pads
⁃ Shampoo/conditioner sample
⁃ Hairbrush and hair ties
⁃ Toothpaste
⁃ Toothbrush
⁃ Deodorant
⁃ Earplugs
⁃ Eye mask
⁃ Phone charger
⁃ Basic make-up
⁃ Leaving hospital clothes
⁃ T-shirt for James
⁃ Water bottle
⁃ Bathroom bin bags for dirties

For baby
⁃ Nappies
⁃ Nappy bags
⁃ Aqua wipes
⁃ Small bottles
⁃ Bodies x 3
⁃ Sleepsuits x 3
⁃ Cardigan
⁃ Coat/star fleece
⁃ Blanket for car

@Stroan I've got to say that this week, my PGP has moved up a significant notch. Are you feeling okay after your fall? I've done that before and got stuck on the floor, it's bloody agony to get up, isn't it?

What's the name that you've picked challenge? We've still not made a decision, but we've got a few maybes- Tobias or Max, and today we've been discussing Erin, Remi, Lena for a girl. I also really like Valentina, but not keen on the nicknames. So for me, Remi Valentina or Remi Rae are leading on the girls front. It's hard to make a decision when you don't know what you're having!

@thecraicdealer sign is from here if you are tempted! - etsy.me/2JjmI4e

Your list looks good to me. Feeding bra and breast pads? I'd maybe add in some labour friendly snacks just in case you need an energy kick? And I had a couple of straws for drinks in labour.

Oh. Vaseline. The baby's first poo is like tar but if you put a tiny little bit of Vaseline on before they do it, it's MUCH easier to clean.

@knobjockey glad it's not just me who is finding it so much worse! I think you are about the same stage? 31/32 weeks?

I didn't fall as such, just sort of tripped and stumbled but it felt like an electric shock in my hip. And sliding off the sofa was really just an undignified attempt to get up. I swung my legs round but my body seemed to be in the wrong place and my legs didn't have the power to push me up! It's agony so I've come to bed before it gets worse and I have to be winched up the stairs.

We still haven't even discussed names. As I changed my mind the week before DD was born we've said we're going to wait until this one is born!

I really need to pack my hospital bag as the consultant has told me if there are any issues discovered at my twice weekly monitoring sessions it will be an immediate delivery 😳 maybe this will be tomorrow's job! @TheCraicDealer (I think it was your list) the only thing I'd say is I would take some pj bottoms for after birth too (rather than just a nightie), just incase you have to stay in. At my hospital you had to have the curtains open unless breastfeeding and I felt completely exposed in a nightie - especially with all the post birth bleeding etc

@kyles101 - think it was you asking about pj trousers, I found I got really big in the final 4 weeks. Like 35 weeks fine, 39 weeks "Jesus chris that girl is massive!!" In those last couple of weeks I only had a couple of items of clothing that fitted me. Also worth bearing in mind, if you for some reason end up having a c section you won't want anything tight anywhere near your scar. Your bump does go down a lot straight away but mine was still fairly sizeable before it started deflating like some sort of sad party balloon.
