Been with my mum and dad last few days they don't live far so been out and about with them they have just found my dad has shingles!!
I remember having chickenpox when I was little my mum said yes I think you did erm come on mum it's important ,she remembers both my brothers having it but thinks I had it, I'm definatly sure I did I remember the itching and the lotion ,both my daughters have had them and one has had shingles and I never got anything, I rang the midwife and was told I'm fine if I've had them which I know I have but my mum has put that niggle there now I seem to get worked up about every little thing at the minute and over thinking things even though I know I've had them - rant over !!

IVEgottheDECAF · 20/06/2019 18:07

If you know the mattress has been stored ok then tbh i would use it. I am getting a new one for our moses but its been in the loft for two years

IVEgottheDECAF · 20/06/2019 18:08

Think i am getting frustrated at my increasing slowness Blush having to sit down and struggling to bend makes gutting a childs bedroom like a marathon

KLane · 20/06/2019 18:21

Hi all! Just popping in to say I’m still here :) I was visiting my parents for 2 weeks in the US, and am now back to SAHM’ing a jet lagged toddler after a long holiday with DH and both my parents. Day one has been brutal.

With the exception of sorting DS’s infant clothes to see what we need, I feel totally unprepared this time. I’m pretty sure I had started packing my hospital bag by 28 weeks last time... anyone else feeling completely behind and can’t be asked until 8 months rolls around?

For anyone concerned about fundal measurement, I’ve been told by multiple midwives that 2cm in either direction is normal due to differences in the measurement taker. I once had a 2cm difference on the same day when taken by different midwives!

Stroan · 20/06/2019 18:29

@karigan195 I guess they monitor you for the potential complications of GD anyway, with urine samples, growth measurements etc. So if there was cause for concern they could still find it?

KnobJockey · 20/06/2019 18:42

@TheCraicDealer let me know what you decide, I'm having just the same dilemma about the next to me mattress- family member, used for a couple of months, smoke and pet free home...it just seems a waste!

Tefiti2 · 20/06/2019 18:48

I’ve bought the same mattress as @Megan2018 and it looks great!

Stroan · 20/06/2019 19:20

@klane I'm kind of the opposite! Remember feeling pretty huge and useless towards the end last time so determined to have everything ready early! Hospital bags packed, few more clothes to get and need to collect the pram from the servicing place but then we are done.

Florencenotflo · 20/06/2019 19:32

Had a day off today, I still had Dd so not relaxing in the slightest 😂. But I have cleared out her clothes, bagged up outgrown stuff to go away and cleared the chest of drawers needed for the baby. Found the inserts for the car seat, found our 2 old slings.

Walked to my friends for a cup of tea, played with dd in the garden. Done some housework. And now I ache and feel so tired I could cry 😩

And I'm losing my marbles. Went to put shopping bags in the car, thought... ooh I fancy some cake. Will pop to Sainsbury's round the corner. Was just about to start the engine when I realised Dd is asleep alone in the house. I mean WTF is wrong with my brain 😂 have text DH and he is bringing some home!

boodles101 · 20/06/2019 19:45

Tough day here, DS has another temperature, was only 2 weeks ago that he was ill and I had to collect him from nursery. He's been pretty upset all day and just lazing around. Not sure what's wrong with him, nothing hurts according to him.
Bad timing though as I have my GTT and 28week scan in the morning. I had put him into nursery for the day as my mums on holiday but now he won't be able to go.
I can get DH to stay home with him and go to scan on my own instead, not ideal but no other solution.
Should I be concerned that it's the 2nd lot of high temps in 2 weeks? By high I mean it's up to 40 when Calpol has worn off.

Stroan · 20/06/2019 19:50

@boodles101 DD had a run of temps like that earlier year. Every week/10 days she would have a spell of being lethargic and hot. The doctors put it down to a virus but eventually she had an ear infection too. Once that was treated with antibiotics, everything else stopped.

If Calpol is bringing it down, I wouldn't worry unless it goes on for more than 24 hours. If it doesn't go away, I normally just ask an on-call GP to ring, then let them decide whether she needs seen.

Hope he is better overnight, temperatures are horrible to deal with.

Stroan · 20/06/2019 19:52

Oh and for everyone feeling massive - today the physio said "oh my goodness, you are massive aren't you?". Then asked if I was ok to walk 15 metres down the corridor.

It was said with kindness and sympathy so I don't mind too much, but ugh. If medical professionals are thinking it, then I must really be huge. I'm losing weight so was actually feeling good for a change!

boodles101 · 20/06/2019 19:55

Thanks stroan he was given antibiotics last time but he refused to take them after the first day and then got better so I gave up trying. Maybe he does need them. It's hard enough forcing him to take the Calpol!
I'll see how he is in the morning and call GP.

Stroan · 20/06/2019 20:03

@boodles101 getting medicine into a toddler is so hard. DD loves Calpol so we told her the antibiotic was yellow calpol. She still asks for it now!

boodles101 · 20/06/2019 20:20

stroan we had absolutely no problem with Calpol before. He had 3 doses of antibiotics fine too then just point blank refused and now does the same with Calpol. I've had to force it down him tonight.

Stroan · 20/06/2019 20:56

Little monkey. Hope he has a settled night.

DustyDoorframes · 20/06/2019 21:11

Ouf @boodles101 that's no fun. Hope for a good nigh's sleep!
@Dipsy77 , a colleague had shingles when I was last pregnant, the MW told me that, apart from me not being at risk as I'd had the pox as a child, even if I had got it, it's basically fine once you are out if the first trimester, unless you actually give birth with the pox- in case that helps put your mind to rest!

Dipsy77 · 20/06/2019 21:27

@DustyDoorframes thanks for that yes it does Smile

kyles101 · 21/06/2019 05:52

"D"h woke me up at 4:30 to show me something funny the dog was doing. I've been wide awake ever since. "D"h needs to fear for his life when we're both back home later.

Puglover88 · 21/06/2019 06:17

Has anyone else had stomach bugs this pregnancy? I’ve been up since 4 with bad cramping and vomiting and I had the exact same thing about 4 weeks ago! The midwife said gastroenteritis is common in pregnancy but twice in 4 weeks! 😩

kyles101 · 21/06/2019 06:48

Sorry to hear you're unwell @Puglover88 I've had one instance and it wasn't nice at all so I really feel for you. Take care, rest and fluids where you can. There seems to be so much going around this year.

IVEgottheDECAF · 21/06/2019 07:24

kyles how is dh still breathing Shock

kyles101 · 21/06/2019 07:37

Because he's currently over 100 miles away from me ivegot. He woke and ran. I can not guarantee his breathing status once I have my hands on him later...

Puglover88 · 21/06/2019 08:12

@kyles101 thanks, feeling rough as anything! Sorry your OH woke you so early! I think he made the right decision to run!

TheCraicDealer · 21/06/2019 08:30

kyles101 and KnobJockey dunno what I'm going to do tbh- I was all set to get a new one as I knew the blanket advice was "new baby = new mattress" but after finding it hard to get a replacement I was happy with I looked on the Lullaby Trust which says if you're using second hand make sure it's in good condition, no dips/odours, that the cover is intact and hasn't shrunk and that the previous owner used a mattress protector. All those boxes are ticked. Then on the other hand I know I'd never forgive myself if something did happen. I'm in a mattressy pickle atm.

I try to talk to DH about things like this and he just looks at me and goes "whatever you think". Drives me mad!!! He has an opinion on literally everything else!

I saw a code for 15% off the Elvie breastpump on an instagrammer's feed which would make it just about affordable for me. Just. Has anyone seen any reviews of them which aren't sponsored? They look the tits but the company seems social media savvy and I'd love to read an independent take on it.
