I believe it's an internal at your stage papaya. I had a scan at 9 weeks and it was a normal one and you could even make out a little face - utterly amazing.

wendyredhead · 25/07/2007 18:14

Hope everyone's feeling great..

I have so much energy and it worries me because shouldn't I be tired (only 5 weeks gone)? I'm literally bounding about everywhere - think it could be the royal jelly, the B vits, the multi vits, the bee pollen but not all at once - I alternate daily!

I've just booked in with midwife as I'm away now for 2 wks but she says I only get a scan at 12 weeks and one other later on. How come loads of you got earlier ones?????? Maybe it's the area you live in.

DontlookatmeImshy · 25/07/2007 18:19

I can't keep up with you all.

Glad you had good news Lcy.

Hope everyone else isn't feeling toooooo bad.

LoveAndSqualor · 25/07/2007 18:23

3madboys, thanks - I might try that, then, depending on how the GP is.

glammarjoram - that's v interesting about Homerton (I guess that's where I'll be) - I know one other person who gave birth there and she was a bit um-ah about it ... but I guess you don't really get much say in where you end up (or do you?! could i BE any more wet behind the ears?)

wendyredhead - impressive array of supplements! I think I have tablet envy - boring old folic acid clearly not enough ... I too am fairly bouncy; putting it down to the early nights and no alcohol!

Lcy · 25/07/2007 18:32

Hi all

papaya - it will be an internal scan. It really isnt to bad. I kept my skirt on and the room was quite dark and door locked so not embarressing and once you see the piccy you forget you have something inside you . Def not as bad as a smear!

pee, drink, want to sleep, pee, drink, want to sleep, pee, drink, pee, drink, want to sleep, pee, drink, want to sleep, pee, drink, want to sleep, pee, drink, want to sleep, pee, drink, pee, drink, want to sleep, pee, drink, want to sleep .....

That is my life at the moment xx

WinkyGirl · 25/07/2007 19:17

I second Lcy - I found the internal scan more comfortable than a smear

Wendyredhead Im getting my early scan because I begged the mw for reassurance after 2 miscarriages this year.

Derah hope you aren't too soaked!

Hi everyone else. Am very tired and will be tucked up in bed at 9pm!

FlossieF · 25/07/2007 20:33

Hello all!

I'm another newbie to add to the list. First pregnancy, and allegedly due on 25 March.

I say allegedly because I don't feel much different yet, but I understand the Clear Blues don't generally lie.

In Germany with work this week and next, so going to see gp as soon as I get back. Given that everyone else's experiences of ante-natal healthcare appear to be so variable, will be interested to find out what Birmingham has to offer. Will keep you posted.

Right, best go get some wurst and sauerkraut for dinner.....

cricri · 25/07/2007 21:14

Hi everybody and congratulations to you all!
I'm also a newbie - BFP last Friday and EDD sometime mid-March. This is my first and a bit of a shock even though it was planned! It just doesn't seem real yet.
Had my first appointment with my GP this morning and it was pretty much as others described - BP check, weight and height measured. I do have to go back for blood tests next week though.
Feeling OK at the moment, just a bit tired at times and very thirsty!
Off to bed now as I can't keep my eyes open...

merryberry · 25/07/2007 21:20

thanks dearh for popping onto the other thread and helping out! it was damned funny, i was so deperately doing some work this am i carried on working even with everything sideways on screen. now have a cricked neck

well i caved in and bought some sea bands this evening for my wrist pressure points. they appear to work a bit - i've moved from being overwhelmed by flushes and nausea to feeling a simple bit of stomach-based nausea and generally much more settled. definetly worth a go. wish i'd tried them with first pg. have any of you had a go? what do you think?

welcome to new people again!

Hi All,

I am new to this as well. Have done a test, worked out dates (mid March), and booked dr appt for tomorrow. Am alternating between being very excited, very scared, and very uncomfortable due to stomach ache. Original plan was for late next year, so all a bit of a shock - although a nice one. Please could anyone advise what the most important things I should ask the dr tomorrow are? Thank you.

xx

skidoodle · 25/07/2007 22:28

hi all and welcome newbies

so many of you since I was last on last week.

so jealous of the bouncy people - I am completely the opposite: my tiredness is flattening me. I am sleeping at least 10 hours a night and if I try to get up before that I just can't. I really can't wait for this to end. My mom just tells me that if I already had other kids I wouldn't be this tired, because I'd have to look after them

I'm also starting to get a bit finnicky about food - off vinegar and watercress so far. I normally eat a big green salad every day and I miss it, but just can't face it.

Emotionally I'm in a weird place, too. I think mostly due to fatigue - I'm finding it hard to care about anything much, and finding it difficult to focus. I feel cranky, but DH tells me I'm not actually that bad. Instead of feeling excited I'm feeling bored by the whole process right now.

I'm also in the waiting to hear from the hospital about first appointment phase, so feeling kind of helpless.

Ho hum, what a miserable cow. Sorry to be such a downer. Hopefully I'll get my mojo back soon.

sweetkitty · 25/07/2007 22:32

thanks for doing the updated list merryberry can't believe there is 40 of us I think there was about 12 on my last ante natal thread

welcome to even more newbies and big congratulations on your BFPs

Hilary - don't expect too much from your GP usually it's just a congratulations we will get you booked in with the midwives. Bit of an anti climax really, things won't kick off until your booking in appt with the MW and the 12 week scan.

Nausea is back again tonight it's more annoying than anything else especially when you are hungry and feeling sick at the same time.

sweetkitty · 25/07/2007 22:33

skidoodle - I don't know about not being tired looking after other kids I'm shattered, I'll be the most moaning miserable cow for the next 8 or so months so you are all warned I don't glow in pregnancy.

monthlymayhem · 25/07/2007 23:36

Hello to all the newbies!

Well had my first GP appt today and like everyone else it was pretty basic - which hospital, blood pressure check etc... She has worked out my EDD as 16th March but I'm still pretty sure it's more like 20th/21st. My booking in appt with the midwife is next Tuesday which I thought was pretty quick! Apparently I will then see the midwife every 4 weeks, with scan at 12 weeks, screening tests for down syndrome etc at 15 weeks, a more detailed scan at 20 weeks and then midwife appts every 2 - 4 weeks. I wasn't expecting the mw appts to be so regular so am quite pleased with that!

We also told DH's parents tonight who were over the moon, and it's starting to feel a bit more real!

Hope everyone if feeling ok, and the travel sickness wristbands are working!!

studentmum1 · 26/07/2007 00:15

hiya, not sure if i'm gonna be in the right place now... i went on the old thread and didn't realise there was this one, i'm 5 weeks gone and i've just visited my doctors today to be told my baby will be due on april fools day! don't think theres an april thread yet! too early!! This is my second preganancy, but with my dd i was 21 weeks gone before i found out i was pregnant! so this whole waiting game is new to me and i'm finding it very stressful and worrying! lots of bizarre cramps and sickness! i probably had them last time but didn't realise!!!

merryberry · 26/07/2007 08:55

42 and counting .... studentmum, welcome to the march thread, let us know if you go off to an April one at any stage! Hilary, it's probably best to ask about how care is managed when you see the GP...is it all midwives, are they hospital or community based, do you go to them or they come to you? Is there a choice of hospitals to go to, and if so, start some research on them. Don't commit to being booked anywhere until you've done your research. Don't be suprised if like my area, the gps are clueless, and all care is run by the antenatal services. And if you have any existing medical condition, ask if that needs thinking about in light of your pg.

Congratulations to you both, xx

Morning all - gosh, we are so many! FlossieF and cricri - really good to see more first-timers ...

skidoodle, I know just what you mean about the focus thing. I can't concentrate on anything, even finding reading quite difficult (and I'm an avid reader and it's part of my job). Hmmn!

Told two of my closest friends last night - I felt really nervous about it as it wasn't planned, but - of course - they were amazing and we had a good three-way cry. Makes the whole thing feel much closer and more real, and I feel far more relaxed about it all. Trying to convince DP to talk to some of his friends, but he is uming and ahing ...

I also decided to treat myself to series four of the West Wing yesterday - maybe that'll give me back my focus!

Angel1k1 · 26/07/2007 10:01

Hello Everyone. Just found this website and thread. This is my first pregnancy and I'm 7 weeks pregnant.
Due on the 8th of March.
Had been ok up until a few days ago... Now, it's all about sickness 24/7, swollen boobs, extreme tiredness (nearly fell asleep in a work meeting), and weird dreams. No cravings as I'm way too nauseous to even contemplate walking into the kitchen.
I'm from the Marlow, Bucks area, and my local hospital is the one in High Wycombe.
My GP was not helpful at all and the midwife won't see me till 12 weeks, to even put my mind at rest. I'm from Greece and the atitude and style here of the midwives/GPs seems way backwards and I'm a bit worried about this leave-you-alone-till-12-weeks attitude. No advice on eating/drinking/smoking, nothing I have to look on the net for help. And when I mention to the midwife about having anaemia last year, she just didn't want to know!
Anyone, with experience of Wycombe Hospital? Anyone from around here? Is this how it is usually with Midwives/GPs?

fitzfrodo · 26/07/2007 10:24

Morning all, hope everyone is ok this morning..just having sugar puffs for breakie. Not sure if i'm off milk or off tea but defo can't have milk and tea together!!

Anyone know if you can take echinacea in first three months? Also does anyone know how i can get me hands on valoid (anti sickness tablet)

fitzfrodo · 26/07/2007 10:29

Sorry Angels
Please see Angels if from Bucks area she needs some assistance

You will find Angel everyones area is completely different. My gp/mw won't see me until 8 weeks which when you find out at 4 is a bloody long time..try not to get too stressed just see any sign of sickness, sore boobs etc as a good sign that all is ok

skidoodle · 26/07/2007 11:00

Hi Angel, congratulations - I'm due on the 8th with my first too, also 7 weeks. I've been noticing worse symptoms in the last week or so, especially tiredness.

Like you I'm new to the UK, so I'm a little confused by what's going on. I've been to see my GP (who thankfully was really nice and a woman) but still waiting for a hospital appointment and don't really know anything about the hospital I'm going to. I don't have anyone to ask as most of the people I know here I know through work and I can't say anything at work yet.

HolidaysQueen · 26/07/2007 11:15

Hi everyone (all the newbies and first timers in particular!) -

I just had my first appt with the GP. She reckons my due date is actually 27th March - studentmum, my dates are creeping up and I may be joining you on an April thread at this rate

It was odd - she was really dispassionate and kept talking about miscarriage (I know they have to warn you but at the same time I don't really want to hear it) but then she did actually do things like test my urine, ask me questions, talk me through the procedure in my area and also reassured me that I should definitely stick to our plans for a holiday at Christmas, which dh is particularly relieved about as he really wants one last exotic holiday as a couple

angel - i too have been told i don't need to see anyone now until week 12. it's quite weird as i think they should be monitoring me every week or something, but i guess at this stage either things will go well or things won't and they can't really influence it anyway so they just leave you to get on with it. But as first timer, I find it weird - just want to scream "don't you realise how important this baby is?" At least we have people on mumsnet to talk to, which is already proving invaluable to me.

HQ xx
