Thanks for your messages. But unlike some here, I didn't even had any blood or urine or anything tests. And I started taking antenatal vit pills (solgar) because I was worried about my iron levels. This baby though very welcome by me and my husband, it was conceived despite protection and outside fertility days (we're gonna call him MacGyver joking) so I hadn't planned for it or taken better care of myself like taking vitamins etc.

I can't talk to anyone about this yet as most of my friends do not have any children and I haven't told anyone at work yet, though my running to the bathroom when anyone mentions coffee or tea started making people suspicious.
Thank God, I found this thread.

c4it · 26/07/2007 13:12

Hi All and welcome and congrats to newbies. I had my m/w app yesterday - am 6 weeks and due 21 March. Won't have another one now until 12 weeks. She was really nice - filled in forms, gave me some information about nutrition when pg, info about care options and took blood pressure, but nothing much elses.

Angel - you should take folic acid up to 12 weeks too if this is not included in your vits. Try not to worry too much about not seeing medics but remember to make notes of all your questions for when you do see them. I seem to remember that last time I only had monthy mw apps between 12 and 30 weeks too and weekly thereafter. I think the NHS generally seem to take the view that pg is a natural process and does not need intervention unless problems occur, but if you are worried keep going back.

I can really recommend the book What to Expect When You're Expecting (especially for first timers) because it goes through exactly what is "normal" each month etc.

And remember... you always have us

MerlinsBeard · 26/07/2007 13:17

angel 1K1 i haven't been to DRs yet either. not had chance tbh! YOu should take folic acid until 12 weeks

pipsqueeke · 26/07/2007 13:20

hello just a quick stop from me, had my m/w apt yesterday and she seriously was as much use as a chocolate tea pot - tbh i'm rather annoyed. she said 'how do you feel' and that was about that, gave me a load of pamlet things, and said we'll see you next week to arragne a scan we'll assume you're 7.5 weeks (i'm 7+5 if she want's to get fuss but anyhow) followed by we'll have a feel next week and if we think your furether we'll change it and arrange a scan then - no mention of oh ok so you're not 100% sure so we'll pack you off asap for a scan. my dr's notes hadn't even reached her apparently after over a week I came away feeling like i'd been a real inconvience to her and totlaly wasted her time, was v pissed off and tbh rather tearful. I want to go back to wales where I had DS - the m/w's were the exact opposite v helpful and v friendly - this one was like oh well you should know what to do bye bye. didn't even check my pee - BP or tummy nothing nada . DS was there as well and she was looking at him as it he shouldn't be there and she didn't even like toddlers.

anyhow hiya any newbies we have.

imjin100 · 26/07/2007 13:42

sorry for everyone who is having a tough time with GPs and MW's. So far, I seem to be getting away very lightly with everyone being nice and helpful, but early days at only 8 weeks so they have plenty of time to reduce me to tears. Today I'm struggling to stay awake at my desk...pretending to study something very important on the screen when infact brain has disengaged. DH (rather proud of myself for checking out the acronym list as a new girl!) & I have to make big decision today, we have booked a holiday to india in november when I'll be 5 months. No doctor will say you can't go but it is a malaria area so they aren't thrilled by the idea. We booked it assuming after 15 months of trying for a baby it wasn't going to happen, and hey bingo, the week after we pay for the flights look what happens! Perhaps we could suggest this for those struggling to conceive - nothing like taking the pressure off! It's a tough call but a very nice problem to have.
good luck everyone with today.

Angel1k1 · 26/07/2007 14:15

Thanks everyone for your support. My vits have folic acid so fingers crossed.
BTW, My name is Angeliki, except the name was taken so I replaced the 'i's with '1's.

spugs · 26/07/2007 14:32

hiya, sorry to here some people are having a shit time with their dr/mw, where i am you ahve pregnancy confirmed by doc (he doesnt do a test just ask if you have!!) then you see mw at 8 weeks who takes initial bloods and gives you leaflets. Scan at 12 weeks and then nothing till another scan at 20 weeks. the reason they do this is that basically theres not much they can do if it all goes tits up before then. unfortunatly mc is very common so i understand the before 12 weeks part but i think a few more check ups between 12 and 20 wks should be done! you should have your mws no. though and pester them if your not happy etc.

hi to all the newbies, i cant believe there are so many of us now! are there normally this many on the an threads? maybe its because of the shit weather were having

anyhow i have broken out with the worlds most spottiest skin and i am definitly feeling sick. just cant quite believe that its pg related and not just a bug/migraine etc

HolidaysQueen · 26/07/2007 14:44

Angel1k1 - as a first timer, i feel a bit at a loss like you (although at least my dr sounds a bit more helpful than yours.) anyway i think c4it is right about "what to expect when you're expecting". I'm finding it really useful and reassuring, and think that book plus this website will be enough to see me through the next 6 weeks until i have my scan and then beyond, all being well!

imjin100 - where in india are you going? i went last year and saw a couple of pregnant tourists travelling around there who seemed absolutely fine. also, i didn't get delhi belly once - we ate pretty carefully - by eating in busy restaurants, didn't eat street food although did drink lots of tea from roadside stalls, paid a bit more for our food - about £2 rather than 50p per meal! - and didn't have any problem for 3 weeks. i always get horribly bitten, and have found that the best thing is to wear long trousers and preferably long sleeves in the evenings as that cuts your chances of getting bitten - with loads of lovely kaftan type tops around at the moment anyway, that is probably something you could do really easily to cut your risk of being bitten. also this website is excellent for travel health advice

glammarjoram · 26/07/2007 15:01

I am unable to keep my eyes open. Problem is I'm at work and am supposed to be looking busy. I've been avoiding caffeine but I think I'm going to have to hit the vending machine for a paper cup of instant. Don't tell the pregnancy police.

HolidaysQueen · 26/07/2007 15:03

oh god, are we not supposed to drink caffeine now? the only way i've been keeping awake is through 3 cups of tea at work instead of my usual 1...

derah · 26/07/2007 15:06

Sorry HQ, caffeine is another no-no. But I'm sure 3 cups of tea isn't too bad. It's the 10 cups of coffee that some people live on that might cause problems. I've given it up completely though and am drinking rooibos earl grey.

Anyway, I just popped in to see if you've noticed that there's a Due in April 2008 thread! We're not the 'youngest' any more! . The time does seem to go slowly, but it passes....

glammarjoram · 26/07/2007 15:06

I drank lots of tea last time I was pregnant. Don't worrry about it. I'd be drinking tea now if my stomach could keep it down. Trying to cut down on caffeine just because I wanted to see if I could. You are allowed to drink coffee but some people avoid it. They want to take all the fun out of life!

glammarjoram · 26/07/2007 15:09

X post Derah, didn't want it to seem as if I was disagreeiig with you. As far as I'm aware, although some women choose to avoid caffeine you can have a cup or two. This site is useful.www.eatwell.gov.uk/agesandstages/pregnancy/
How do you do those nice links I see in posts?

spugs · 26/07/2007 15:18

derah - ill be happy when theres a due in july 2008 thread and im still on here
its nice not to be the youngest though.

hq - ive cut out caffine completly as well, only drink decaf tea. means i need to try and find different ways of uping my liquid intake as prior to pregnancy i lived on coffee/tea and white wine, posibly not the best mixture.

oh and i was really sad and had a look at how many people were on the feb and august threads feb was about the same but august had even more, over 50 , my sister did say that maternity is always busy in august/september due to everyone feeling festive at christmas and new year

imjin100 · 26/07/2007 15:26

thanks holiday queen, we're going to Rajastaan which looking at various sites does feature malaria higher than just the usual for the rest of the country. We just can't decide what is best. The GP read the inforamtion about the pills that are recommended and it says that you can take them if you are pregnant but only if you have to travel to that area and it says travel should ideally be avoided. I am always bitten to bits and I know you can't use Deet based solutions but there again perhaps not going is a bit wet...but if we cancel india we have the excitement of planning another fortnight somewhere else and seeing as you have clearly got the holiday bug any thoughts!
It's still such early days and so much can happen but equally I know DH would like it resolved. He's spoken to a few doctors who have unnerved him I think and he's very lovely and protective and clearly doesn't want to put me or the baby at any risk.
Ho Hum....eyes propped open with pencils. Just went for a walk to get air at work, nearly got blown over in wind and rain. Charming.

derah · 26/07/2007 15:43

Glammorjoram - there are instructions on how to do links just below the bit about how to do smileys.

Ah, forgot to tell you guys about the pancakes last night. I was watching Cbeebies with DD and there was some cartoon on where they were eating spotty pancakes (I think they were some kind of berry). Well, I suddenly HAD to have pancakes with raisins in and honey on them, so I made a batch while DD was eating, supposedly for her pudding. But she didn't want any so I ate the lot, mmmmmmmmm!

hopefulstork · 26/07/2007 16:00

hello -I posted last week having just had 6+5 scan where they found no heartbeat. I've just had 7+5 and there is a flicker - hurray!! It's still very small - dr said looks about 7weeks rather than 8 (but I think from his tone he was trying to be generous). Still, I'm over the moon about the heartbeat and maybe I should follow Derah's pancake eating example to try to beef it up a bit for the next scan (10 weeks).

Sorry I'm not a more prolific poster - have been so tired - but reading all of your posts has helped me no end getting through the agonisingly slow last week.

imjin100 · 26/07/2007 16:01

that is great news, so pleased for you and fingers and toes crossed for the next week. I also have a scan booked a week tomorrow, the day before we go on holiday which is really nice. I think it's good to get re-assurance if it's at all possible.

sweetkitty · 26/07/2007 16:14

hi everyone

Well we've had a bit of a setback today have had some bleeding TMI it was pink/red jelly like at the end of a period only a little when I wiped after the loo twice. It seems to have stopped now. Phoned the MWs and spoke to the one who delivered DD2 (she remembers me as I was her first homebirth) she phoned the scan dept at the local hospital and they said come in on Monday for a scan good old NHS! If it gets worse I have to phone them though. Keep thinking I had 2 bad bleeds with DD1 and here she is running around. DP says we shouldn't let it ruin the rest of his holidays and not to think about it but wish it were that easy. Also going for a scan with a 3yo and 18mo isn't going to be easy either.

Sorry to bring down the thread didn't want to do that.

Roll on the next 4 weeks for us all.

Jackstini · 26/07/2007 16:20

Lcy - sooooo pleased you got the resullts you wanted from your scan.
I am feeling so yuck today - am def going to try those anti-sickness bands to see if they work. Not actually been sick - just feel it all the time. I am another one that is constantly thirsty, bottles of water all over the place and as if I wasn't tired enough, am missing my caffine!
Wendyreadhead - pass some of your boundless energy over here please
We have still not told family/friends yet either so is hard to explain away. We did last time as I was so excited but wanted to have our own little secret for a bit this time. What's everyone else doing? May not be able to wait until after 12 week scan though as I am already bloating (Glam - you are not the only one don't worry!) Last time someone at work asked when I was due when I was only 9 weeks pregnant Time for the elasticated waists, drawstring trousers and smock tops to come into play...
Is my bday on Sat and have about 30 people coming to a BBQ. I am going to have to avoid alcohol all day without telling them why - should be fun...

Rainbowdays · 26/07/2007 16:22

Hi just popping in to say I am so pleased to see so many of you progressing so well. I was at the start of this thread as some of you might remember, but m/c at 5 weeks. Well I am now pleased to say that I am pg again!!!! I have just started the April thread so anyone here wanting to pop in there please feel free, it is kinda quiet at the moment!!!! Congrats to you all.

Jackstini · 26/07/2007 16:22

Am really pleased for you hopefulstork
Sweetkitty - fingers crossed for you - hope it is nothing
Derah - know exactly what you mean by got to have whatever is on tv! No other specific cravings - more aversions really to various foods, smells etc.

studentmum1 · 26/07/2007 16:28

ok, congrats to all you ladies... i'm off to the april thread after my wait for some one to start it!! xxx

HolidaysQueen · 26/07/2007 16:29

sweetkitty - fingers crossed for you over the next few days, hope you can try and keep in mind that the same thing happened with dd1 and she came safely.
hopeful stork - good news - i'm very pleased for you
imjin100 - my dh was also a bit nervous when i suggested india for our christmas holiday as he knew we were hoping i was pregnant then - clearly men are more nervous than us girls! we're off to mexico instead and we're still travelling around, but not as much as we would have done without me being pregnant. we decided to avoid the places where you need to take tablets so i don't worry too much as i get really badly bitten. how about Bali where there is minimal malaria risk, plus amazing landscapes, beaches and even the Hindu culture like India? Or alternatively we honeymooned in Thailand which is really fabulous and where you only need antimalarials in a very few places in the far north.
