PS no maternity clothes here but going to have to get me new jeans this weekend. My belly has popped out...

codenameduchess · 20/06/2019 15:38

I've had texts today from my manager, she wants us all to do something outdoorsy and not compatible with pregnancy and is pushing to book it... I haven't told work about my pregnancy because I'm hoping to apply for a more senior role very soon and know I won't get the job if they know I'm pregnant.

This activity isn't something I'd do anyway even without baby and have said I'm really not comfortable with it (it's potentially quite dangerous) and don't want to but feel really pressured to agree to do it. I don't want to tell her about my pregnancy yet and my official, independent HR advice is not to, but don't know what other options there are at this stage... any thoughts?

lovebeingmum9 · 20/06/2019 15:48

Thanks @elephantmarch me too and being the youngest he's (if he) bound to bring laughter Grin and same applies for esme as means beloved.
What car did you get....not cheap but much needed,we used to think wouldn't it be funny to look in the back seats and see 3 children side by side lol
Thanks @Fonxey
Lucas is lovely...love your girls names as they are very unique!
@Codenameduchess I know a lady round our way and she leaves it right up to the wire until she has to choose name almost month after babies born......it's such a hard choice as so many names and having to choose one both you and hubby agree on!
@agteacht love the name flynn and that's irish? I think the etticate is if you really like a name then go for it Smile

lovebeingmum9 · 20/06/2019 16:07

p.s I've been in my maternity jeans for the last month as my other jeans just got too uncomfortably tight....and stretchy tops, I've had a few funny looks on the school runs as if people are either thinking am I pregnant or just fatter? 🤣
@agteacht forgot to add I'm glad your consultant app and scan went well! I've got a consultant app next month and my 20wk scan a week later......wondering if I will be offered any extra scans as had a big baby previously but def going to ask to be induced on due date.
@Codenameduchess if you really don't want to tell work your pregnant but don't want to do the work activity then I would just firmly say thanks but you can't make it this time! perhaps due to other commitments or unforseen circumstances? don't feel pressured to feel asthough you have to go x

codenameduchess · 20/06/2019 19:57

I've had another message asking what I want to do so she can book it for the summer... not a single option I could do! I've suggested an escape room, there's a fab one not too far away and said I think that would be better team building as we'd be working together but my manager wants to do this thing so that's all she'll accept- I'm sticking with not a chance, but they can go ahead and I'll meet after for lunch! I feel like as it's a water based activity me not being confident in water or a strong swimmer should be good enough reason to not go.

elephantmarch · 20/06/2019 20:38

@codenameduchess if it’s the summer could you agree and then when you tell them you’re pregnant they’ll understand why you might need to give it a skip. Unless you’re paying for it in advance. That’s a very high brow association for a name choice! Wow. My son 2 was named after from a popular American tv show Blush but rosalind is a lovely name, very elegant

@agteacht nice to have a scan again. Could you see a big difference from the last, more features etc? Are they 3D scans? I think you can’t choose a name that your sister has chosen etc , immediate family, but a cousins child etc is fine.

@fonxey wren is my favourite but they are all lovely. The Lucas’s I know have brothers called Rory, George ( that dad was a Star Wars fan!) and one has a sister called Julianna which I think is quite pretty

We have two boys, one with a name In the top 100 and the other with a peculiar name that probably doesn’t feauture in the top 5000. My gut feeling says we’ll have another boy so I’ll need to pick something in between.

@lovebeingmum9 it’s a verso. It has two seats that pull up in the boot so seemed quite versatile and not too much like a bus.

agteacht · 20/06/2019 20:44

Thanks @lovebeingmum9 and @elephantmarch! I will keep thinking about the names...

It was lovely to have another scan though I should probably have waited another week or so to spread out further until the 20w scan. At the consultant I heard the heartbeat, I didn't expect that and had already booked the scan that morning. Just hearing the heartbeat was reassuring in itself!

Didn't have a 3D scan just standard. Definitely saw a difference though, the arms and legs were more fully formed, we saw little fingers, so cute ❤️

BostonFern · 20/06/2019 21:11

@elephantmarch yes, I'm 17+1 so we are close together! I've worn a few maternity bits over the last few weeks, bump isn't very big but they're so much comfier!

@agteacht glad to hear the appointment and scan went well.

@codenameduchess could you tell her you have a medical condition, that you wish to keep private, which prevents you from being able to safely complete the activity?

OP posts:
codenameduchess · 20/06/2019 22:15

I could try that @BostonFern, it's company funded but I know if I pull out she'll get arsey about it.
The cut off for telling work is around 19th August and I'll probably be waiting until quite close to then... I'm trying to put off this team event until after summer holidays but not getting very far haha

@elephantmarch it only came about because DD said she wants to call her sister Rosie, I really don't like it but remembered Rosalind as we're teaching DD about great women. As a side note the 'great women who' books by Kate Pankhurst are amazing for little girls!

BostonFern · 23/06/2019 10:23

We had our scan yesterday, 17+3, it was amazing to see how much our little boy has grown! He's about 202g now, and definitely looks more like a baby than when we saw him at the 13 week NHS scan! Can't believe I'm almost halfway there.

Oh wow. That's really detailed! Great pic, you must be feeling wonderful. Really changed!

I'm on the fence about a 4d scan. I might get one...after my 20 week scan. I really kinda want one before though. I wish I could see my baby every day though.

codenameduchess · 23/06/2019 11:23

Fab pic @BostonFern!!!

@fonxey I had one at around 28 weeks with dd, it was amazing to see, she looked just like the scan when she was born. We booked it so my mum could see baby, it had been a really shit time and we'd not long lost my dad so it was lovely and o share it with her. This time we've booked one at 18 weeks so DD can see the baby and hopefully help her understand a bit more.

BostonFern · 23/06/2019 11:32

@fonxey thanks, we are so happy. We are also very lucky that at all of our private scans have included a little bit of a 3D scan.
Here's the photos from the 3D bits at 7, 9 and 17 weeks- can't believe the difference!

Oh wow those 3D scans look great!!! They included a bit at one of my growth scans and the baby really did look the same.

Can’t wait to find out what we are having so we can start talking about names as DP won’t discuss until we know sex. I have liked Madeleine for ages if it is a girl but we just got a new niece and she is called Madison 😭

duebaby2 · 23/06/2019 20:15

Welll we found out today that baby 2 is a boy. So no baby girl for me but never mind, I'll love my boys all the same. Getting a gender scan was an awesome experience!

@Starrynights86 good luck with picking names, my DP vetoes lots of them, I'm glad we have plenty of time to pick names for just one gender or else I think baby would be nameless for quite a while!

@duebaby2 those are fantastic scan photos!

OP posts:
lovebeingmum9 · 24/06/2019 07:14

wow it's lovely seeing your scan pics @BostonFern
& @Duebaby2 and congrats on finding out it's a boy aswell!
@starrynights86 good luck with the name picking....Madeleine is lovely but it's hard if a simular name is already in the family.....not the same though Smile

TDLO · 24/06/2019 18:26

Hi everyone, scan pics are looking great.

I'm suffering big times with headaches, I really don't want to take paracetamol as I'd be taking it every evening. Anyone else had this?

Also getting a really sharp pain when I sneeze which seems to be about 5 times a day just now, rather random, the sneezing that is lol.

Hope you are all doing well x

RobinsNest17 · 24/06/2019 19:10

@TDLO headaches are awful for me too at the moment. '4Head' stick is good- although I have to go careful I don't get the fumes from it in my eyes, so I use it mostly at bedtime and overnight.

I'm also sneezing a lot but that's due to not being able to take hayfever medication, so I'm wondering if the headaches are symptoms of that too.

fonxey · 24/06/2019 19:10

I get a sharp pain of i sneeze or cough too hard. Is it in the belly? Just muscles/ligament pain i think... Or in my case, lack of.

Had it with the snuffles.

I'm on night shifts. More tired than usual and had 2.5 hours sleep and the rest just dozing. So going to see how this goes! Seeing as can't even manage hand to eye co ordination this sounds be fun.

Starrynights86 · 24/06/2019 19:35

@foxney I’ve had a terrible cold/cough and I’ve been getting ligament pains when I cough too

elephantmarch · 24/06/2019 21:52

Love the scan pics @duebaby2, we have two boys and they are such different personalities and still great friends. Two boys make a lovely duo too :)

Sorry people are feeling under the weather. There’s definitely a summer cold doing the rounds which seems very out of season!

TDLO · 25/06/2019 08:14

@RobinsNest17 that's great, I'll get some of that to try it as worried about taking painkillers all the time.

It could well be sinus related as it feels like that kind of headache.

@fonxey hope your night shift went well!

The sneezey/coughing pain is annoying as it's so sharp. I sneezed in work yesterday and think I gave everyone a good laugh cos then I jumped out my skin with the wee sharp pain lol.
It always worries me for a second but I've googled the life out of it and it's apparently very normal and expected x

francesca26 · 25/06/2019 09:18

@TDLO I'm also suffering with headaches at the moment. They tend to be in the afternoon/evening, and right above my eyes. Also not keen on taking paracetamol every day so tend to just go to bed early if I can!

Can anyone help me get added to the facebook group? I've sent two emails to the address given but haven't had any response. Would love to keep up to date with everyone. xx

IHD83 · 25/06/2019 13:41

@francesca26 Send your facebook user name to the email and I will add you.

Anyone else asking for facebook group? Now that I’m in the email account I can add more :)
