Hello everyone - Mrs Fish welcome back. Glad your break was lovely - Alice hope you get a lovely one too - HdV, very jealous !! And Lisa too I think you're going away - enjoy!

well, we had our hospital tour today and it was great - so so so much better than the last one and def worth the 30 min drive away. Much cleaner, friendlier and there were actually staff there (you may think that sounds mad, but for DS we shared our mw with 4 other women, all of whom had emcs's - they inducted me without a bed on the delivery ward and then there was no post op rooms available either!!) So this was dreamy - actually made me start getting really excited about it, esp seeing the little newbies in there Then only low point was, like alicet,my back and forth on the vbac thing, esp seeing the birth pool etc but then they said that if you've had a section before they don't let you use it anyway, so that helped!

made me realise that there really isn't long to go at all - thanks for the Boots tip, will be stocking up on Mon. I sorted through some of DS's baby clothes as well yesterday which helped make it all the more real.

re. sitting positions, I have found with DDS and this time that a birthing ball is mega comfy; I'm small too so the pillows/cushions behind my back help a bit and a I have a footstool too but the ball is also great (and supposedly good for optimum positions - but despite my every day use with DS he ended up in the wrong position anyway!)

I've noticed a real appetite increase though which is worrying! And sorry to hear about the coughs - my thing is nose bleeds. nice!

And I had the strongest feeling I was having a girl yesterday - and I've suddenly had a last minute turn around on our girl's name. Had it planned for about 10 years and now not so sure! have to think of some more.

anyway - this is getting too long. hope everyone else is ok and have a lovely evening

Muppet; I've given this advice before so excuse me if you've read it already but my ENT specialist charged me a fortune to teach me this;...drink water all the time, try to get 4 litres down a day (for no more than 10 days but you should be fixed sooner than that)especially drink it when you want to cough to wash the tickle away rather than aggrevate it further, if you have a sore throat gargle with salt water (1tspn to 1 pt)if your sinuses are blocked wash them out with sterimar (saline spray available from Boots)or inhale steam (no olbas or eucalyptus needed... but dont go out for 2 hours after)...to sooth the throat take a tspn of set honey and let it trickle down the throat ...oh and if the mucus is very thick eat fresh pinapple to thin it. He also stopped me taking any caffine or alcohol (because they dehydrate you)and banned dairy products because they create mucus for most people. It really works, its just boring.

Cramp; I'm told that quinine helps stop cramp itself...it is found in tonic water or bitter lemon...but how good it is for pg women I dont know.

ChocHN; I sympathise with not being comfy sitting up straight...I have that prob when away from home...but am lucky in that Dh bought recliner settes before I met him and they put me in just the perfect relaxed position with swollen feet elevated but without actually lying down.....bliss! I think the foot stool idea would be a great alternative.

Pheebe; Sounds like you have been having a lovely time. I understand how you feel about being without Dh. I hate it when mine is away..which is all too often...he's going to be away tues, weds, thurs for the next 3 weeks!....but at least they aren't the long haul 2 weeks away at a time trips...I truly hate those.

TheLadyEvenstar · 12/08/2007 09:19

Morning all...how is everyone?

Muppet - I know how you feel with the cough I have had one for almost 6 weeks now, dr has checked me over and said there is no reason for me to be coughing as nothing is wrong with me. He then told me the best cure for a cough and apparently few people realise this, is CHOCOLATE!!!!! He advised me to go home and drink as much hot choc as i wanted, i have been doing this and my cough is getting better.

MrsFish - I too have been getting cramp in my calf muscles and it hurts like mad. I was told a fair few yrs ago that the easiest thing to do was to pull your toes up towards your head...if you are laying down obviously you just point your toes towards your head as with our gorgeous bumos we can't all reach our toes lmao.

Pheebe - I know how you feel about dh being away, my dp is going away today on a course for 3 days. He is leaving at about 3 today and won't be back until about 6 on tuesday. I am already missing him and he is only in the other room sleeping after a night shift lol. I am going to use the time he is away to pack some more things as we are off on our holiday in 8 days and moving a couple of days after we get back....hectic!!!!

Yesterday was DP's b'day and he was gutted when he woke up and his ds hadnt even phoned to say happy birthday. He said to me "she has probably told him not to" But my Ds wrote him a wonderful card to the best daddy ever and signed it your son....so sweet of him.

Am going to enjoy today as it is cooler and I have been unable to do much the last few days with the heat, have just monged on the sofa playing my psp. Am phoning dr's monday to change hospitals n midwifes as I am 9 weeks away from giving birth and have not seen a midwife yet other than to book in!!!! I had to cancel one appt as i was ill and have been trying since to get another, on July 15th they told me they would give me appt for 30th August!!!! Dr wasn't happy nor was I. So am going to change and hope for the best.

As for a comfy position to sit in I have found sitting on a chair in front of desk with my knees up so bump rests on them is a great position for me. but when i sit on sofa I can't get comfy at all grrrrr.

Anyway my coffee is calling me peeps catcha all later xxxx

MrsFish · 12/08/2007 16:40

My DH is going away for 10 days on the 30th Aug, back on the 9th Sept, I'm gonna be exhausted by then

Hi I'm here for a minute or two...We've been to Ikea...then had to pour a pint down Dhs throat to calm him down...he doesn't do shopping and he certainly doesn't do crowds. But we finally have all the units for the utility room! Oooh! the joys of storage!!! And I got a beautiful sheepskin for the LO while we were there.

j20baby · 12/08/2007 17:54

FT-what kind of sheepskin, like a mat?

forgot to say, my mum also brought me a box of malteasers to cheer me up, then ate most of them, then said she felt sick

FloriaTosca · 12/08/2007 18:12

Sheepskin rug type for Lo to line pram, chair etc...DHs family are Swiss and believe them to be essential!

How about "big fat piglets a'roasting"!!!

Darn it got to go to mums for dinner...see you all later

MrsFish · 12/08/2007 18:23

Hi J20 - thanks for your concern, I'm ok really, just tired and uncomfortable but then again we all are now aren't we

muppetgirl · 12/08/2007 20:44

Hi all
Thanks for advice re the embarassing topic of wetting oneself!
I've decided to go and see the dr tomorrow as it's not a little leak, more an emptying of bladder kind of thing. I'm not getting any signals that my bladder is even full let alone slightly. Once i start to pee, I can't stop it....hmmm lovely! Am now realising the significance of pelveic floor exercises as are now feeling like a little old lady with my tena lady's and frequent changes of knickers

I also get the cramp and did with ds1 but someone said (can't remember who -sorry! about pointing your toes upwards -I agree wholeheartedly with this, it works for me.

Went to Oxford yesterday to buy ds his uniform -he looks soooooooo cute. Cannot believe how expensive startrite school shoes are but there you go. Sewed all the name tags in so are all ready.

Ds played in the paddling pool today which was lovely while Dh watered the garden and I made cakes -domesticity is us! (Well, just for today!!) Dh has invited the IL's next weekend and I stupidly thought they wouldn't come but they are so I am going to have to clean the house thoroughly which I really didn't want to do. They are coming on Fri and when dh asked them what they would like to do on sat MIL replied 'oh I don't want to be traipsing about anywhere, I just want to see Ollie'. I laugh at the thought that she thinks Ollie will want to spend the whole day at home with her somethering him...still dh and I said we'd go for a day out even if they didn't want to!!

This is a me me me post so I'm just going to flip back through the posts and have another look.

muppetgirl · 12/08/2007 20:56

Floria ?Thanks for the advice, I drink at least 5 + pints of water a day as seem to get so dehydrated atm. I have even started having a jug of water by my bed to fill up during the night. Am afraid to drink as when I wake coughing I literally run to the toilet. I will try the dairy thing as when Ollie was coughing the dr said to leave off the milk for a while which makes sense after what your Ent specialist said. You?re a singer? What sort of singing do you do ?Classical/ vocals etc I was a ?cellist in a previous life before re-training to be a teacher. How are you finding the breath control with lo onboard?

Les ? I can understand you missing you dh. I am like that too and hate it when he is away. I am uncomfortable now and seem to spend a lot of time experimenting with different ?positions? I find that sitting in our chair (and not the sofa) with pillows stuffed behind my back helps as then my ribcage is pushed forward which helps me to breathe!

J20 ? Glad you got your floor done and glad that your mum actually helped!

We had a sheepskin given to us when Ollie was born and he LOVED it. He spent most of his first summer snuggled on it on his tummy. I put a muslin cloth under his head so it wasn?t in his mouth but he loved running his fingers through the wool and also his toes. Our pesky Jack Russell found it and has ruined it so I?ll get another one for ds2. (You can wash them a couple of times if the get dirty as long as it?s on a wool wash and you brush the wool through)

j20baby · 12/08/2007 21:07

Muppet-I must have missed the post about you leaking, poor you! I have got very close but not had no full on accidents yet, definitely do your pelvic floor exercise I also get very dehydrated, have taken to having one of then dioralyte (sp) every few days to try and keep hydrated.

FT-I thought that was what you meant, but didn?t think that Ikea did them.

Mrsfish-yeah, I suppose we all are like that atm, also, I think we all have good and bad days. I constantly ache, especially when I get out of bed in the night to go to the loo (my record is 7 times atm) I can hardly make my body work!

Btw, managed to get myself a digi camera the other day, so have put a pic of my bump on my profile!

OP posts:
ChocolateHobnob · 12/08/2007 21:43

Hi all

Muppet - poor you. Good luck at the doctor's!

J20baby, congrats on the progress. And cool bump!

We had our first antenatal class today and it was a bit scary - started off a bit touchy-feely and then became pragmatic pain relief in labour. I must admit it scared me quite a lot. I really don't know how a wimp like me is going to manage it!

Anyway, that aside, we've booked a posh hotel night away this week in York which should be nice - looking forward to it.

Take care all of you.

FloriaTosca · 12/08/2007 22:36

Muppet; I'm a classical singer..but like you more of a teacher now than performer (3 yrs of ttc doesn't allow much room for touring) ... and yes pg plays merry hell with breathing and support, though I'm lucky in that LO hasn't moved up into my ribs (I'm pretty certain that the last concert I did pushed him/her down never to return) so I can still breathe a bit...but extended phrases are out of the question [disconcerted emoticon].
I'm so sorry you hare having such a bad time with the water works...I hope the dr can sort you out, odd that you are feeling dehyrated though and even more odd that you aren't getting the "bladder full" signals ...I get them when I don't need to go at all!..I wonder if your Lo is sitting on a nerve and blocking the signal? No wonder you don't want to drink yet more water !
Hope you manage to get the house ship shape before the ils arrive without too much exertion or discomfort.

DH wants the computer...Will catch up with everyone else tomorrow.

TheLadyEvenstar · 12/08/2007 23:15

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH dp is now settled in his hotal room and I have spoken to him like 9 trillion times. So why on earth am I sitting here blubbing away thinking he is going to find someone else while he is there...someone slim, pretty, big boobs.....

oh gawd i think i shall go and cry into a hot chocolate!!!!!!!!!!!

FloriaTosca · 13/08/2007 08:04

LES; Just a quickie...I've got a check up this morning ....my DH says that before he met me he did even more travelling around the world living out of hotels on company expenses and he didn't "get up to anything" then (apart from occasionaly watching a porn channel!)when he was footloose and fancy free so why should he be tempted to do so now that he has got someone who loves him and trusts him waiting back at home.
I think it is natural for us to be feeling a bit insecure when we feel so big and cumbersome...heightened by the fear that "it could happen any time now"...so none of us want our partners out of sight... Don't worry, he'll soon be home probably as glad of it as you are and I bet the thought of another woman never even crossed his mind

MrsFish · 13/08/2007 08:27

Morning everyone

Well I had a good nights sleep last night, only woke twice for the loo and once when ds started crying, I even managed 5 hours without waking which is amazing. It must be because I ate my tea at 5pm so by the time I went to bed I had got the heartburn out of my system. I think DH is just going to have to eat dinner on his own till this lo is born as it worked much better for me eating so early.

Nice bump J20.

As a matter of interest to all those second or more timers, do you find your bump is alot lower this time round? I am definitely carrying lower than the first time.

muppetgirl · 13/08/2007 08:35

Morning all,

Yep my bump is a lot lower this time round and I've found I've become more uncomfortable earlier too.

I have a drs app at 9.10 so are pleased to be at least doing something about my waterworks!

We were supposed to be visiting bf and her hubby today, staying over and coming back tomorrow but not going to now as I think I'd keep them awake with my coughing!! So are going to attack the house again -is it just me or do I clean and then when it's the weekend (dh is home) it gets all messy again? Even when he 'tidy's' it's still not quite the same. I'm going to start with the spare room as then th IL's definately have a clean room to come to

ejt1764 · 13/08/2007 08:51

Morning all ...
absolutely no chance of getting up to date with your comings and goings over the weekend - my weekend at my parents' house was fab - dad took ds to a vintage steam rally on Saturday, then took him fishing on Sunday - I basically lounged around and made another cardi for lo!

Came home last night, and dh was absolutely exhausted - his parents had come to help him decorate our room and the baby's room - but his mother wasn't feeling well, so flaked out on our sofa all day ... he spent more time running around after her on Saturday than being able to do anything - he would have got more done if they hadn't come at all!

However, that said, he has managed to do all the painting, and both rooms look lovely ...

We have a busy day today - ds and I are going round to see one of his friends from school: his mum is in my Welsh class (and my antenatal yoga class too!) - and she is expecting a baby at Christmas (also a little girl!) The kids can play, and we can chat and eat cake - I made some blackberry muffins (fresh blackberries from the garden - crazy lady who lives behind us leaves the end of her garden untamed, and they grow over our shed - yum!)
Then I have a mw appointment at 12 - I must remember to take my sample - I always seem to forget!
Then I have a dentist appointment at 2.40 ...

DS is coming with me to all of them - I hope the mw will listen in to the baby's heart so that ds can hear it too!

Right, must go and get dressed!

Have a good day all ...
