Hi Unicorn
I am obsessed with keeping lo flat when he arrives (I was with ds1!!) We like this one

cgi.ebay.co.uk/GESSLEIN-PRAM-BLUE-BEIGE-CHECKED-BIRTH-3-YEARS-trend_W0QQitemZ140147028022QQihZ004QQc ategoryZ66700QQtcZphotoQQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

as it goes flat for lo when he is a baby then goes into a pushchair when he is bigger but goes flat agin for naps.

I don't get the bugaboo things really...

dal21 · 13/08/2007 17:05

Hi Unicorn

Think the popularity is down to a few things

Both those brands fit the maxi cosi car seat (the car seat wins tons of safety awards) and the car seat can be fitted into the chassis of the quinny and bugaboo (also fits the icandy and stokke systems). And people want the option of not waking a sleeping baby for what could be a 10 min shop etc.

They are also extremely versatile in terms of having a carrycot option for the first few months so baby can lie completely flat.

Then the pushchair can face forward or reverse.

Finally I read a lot about the build quality of the bugaboos - friends of mine have had them for years.

Hope that helps - it really depends on what your needs are, what kind of terrain you will be using it on. How do you travel? By car or public transport. How much space do you have in boot/ house - therefore what size chassis can you accomodate? What level floor do you live on if in flats? so will you have to take this system up/ down stairs?
I went for the Stokke system in the end. It should arrive in the next few weeks!

muppetgirl · 13/08/2007 17:15

Wow, that stokke looks fab!

when we 1st had ds1 we were very much in the country and went for counrty walks with the dogs etc so our quinny (the old one) was more than fine. Now we are in swindon where we have to go virtually everywhere in the car I now need something that folds well and is good in shops (the quinny was huge at the back and often got stuck)

I can walk the dogs and walk on a path so rough terrain isn't us anymore.

I agree with Dal -work out what you'd use it for most -where, what is important to you.

dal21 · 13/08/2007 17:18

Thanks muppet! I love it because it is so unusual - and the shop we bought all our nursery gear from gave us a good deal on everything!

How are you feeling now?

dal21 · 13/08/2007 17:21

Oh and unicorn - keep in mind that quinny launched a new model (quinny buzz 2007) this year which has had loads of improvements made on it from the older model. (Changing brakes etc.). So make sure you know which model you are getting, especially if comparing prices.

TheLadyEvenstar · 13/08/2007 17:42

Hi All

Am just back from a very overdue mw appt. Baby is fine I am 31+1 but he measures 34+1 looks like my dates were right after all.

Lo has his head between my rib cage....TYPICAL MAN!!!!!! and feet down lol. His heart was a bit fast but mw said that was because i had rushed around to get to her. Have appt with consultant re pelvic and back pain, urgent scan and then another mw appt. Seems as if they trying to cram it all in in the last few weeks now!!!!!!

Other than that I am in abetter mood over dp being away but have been up since 4am as i was missing him so much...jeez you wouldnt think he works nights would ya lol. Ohhh also my broadband came back on yesterday THANKS AOL AND BT they got the asses in gear at last.

Going for a cuppa and to get over shock of fatso lo.

muppetgirl · 13/08/2007 17:44

Oh yes, the last model of the quinny was good but the chassis is very stiff now to fold. I'm going to oil it to see if that helps. It had a good carrycot but ds was long so he only fitted in it for 9 weeks. The pushchair didn't go all the way flat and didn't sit up enough so ds was straining at the restraints (!) in order to sit up. The quality of the upholstry (if that's what you call it?) was second to none. Very thick quality and the snuggle sleeping bag was fab when it snowed or was frozen outside. It was also wide at the back + the wheel at the front was fixed which made it tricky to manage in certain small shops.

Dal -Thanks, I'm feeling better with the cough just hope I sleep tonight! Dh keeps ringing to see if I'm okay which is very sweet.

muppetgirl · 13/08/2007 17:53

here's the quinny buzz

alicet · 13/08/2007 18:30

Just skim read - good to see everyone sounds well though!

Floria will def share any tips on sciatica I find and will be trying out yours!

Unicorn - I have a quinny buzz and have to say I am delighted with it. I like the fact that the pushchair faces you - it doesn't go very upright in that position and is more semi-reclined but ds has been very happy in it anyway. It sits much more upright when facing away which is what we use now as he is more interested in looking around at everything but it was lovely to have 18 months of being able to chat to him. They say it can be used from birth but have to say the restraints are massive until they are 5-6 months old but we bought the carrycot too which was great. Plus it fits the maxi cosi car seat which is one of the safest you can get - see which for more info. We will be keeping it for when ds1 doesn't need a pushchair anymore - no regrets buying it at all. And although its not the most compact buggy its very very easy to manouvere about because of the swivel front wheel. We have a vauxhall zafira so fitting in the boot was never a problem - may be tricky if your boot is small but then you could always go to mothercare and try to see if it fits first. If you like it though shop around on the net - we got it over £100 cheaper from a company called two left feet compared with mothercare, John Lewis etc.

I was a bit obsessional when it came to choosing his pram so did lots and lots of research before. OK so it will be nearly 2 years out of date but if you have any questions about other brands I may be able to help too!

Anyway hope the rest of you are doing well - certainly sounds like it! Ejt great news on fab midwife! Can't remember anything else but big hugs to you all!

alicet · 13/08/2007 18:31

Unicorn the link muppet sent for the quinny buzz is from the website I bought mine from that I mentioned - much cheaper than shops so worth checking out different internet shops before you buy.

muppetgirl · 13/08/2007 18:40

sounds like quinny have made some really good improvements since we bought...

unicorn · 13/08/2007 18:57

thanks all re pushchairs - it's a minefield... worse than buying a car!
Will start researching (well a bit anyway!)

MrsFish · 13/08/2007 19:05

Blimey, you lot have been chatty today

I won't try and catch up with everyone.

I went home to see my mum and nan and ended up seeing my two aunts too which was nice. They are coming to stop with me for a girly weekend when DH goes away which will be nice as my aunts and mum are great fun Plus there will be three of them to help entertain ds so I can have a nice relaxing time

DH has bought me a new digital camera, it looks fantastic, can't wait to have a play with it tomorrow. He said its a new baby present plus a sweetner for him going away for 10 days I'm off out to the cinema with a friend at half past to see Evan Almighty so will catch up with everyone tomorrow.

FloriaTosca · 13/08/2007 19:15

We have 11 messages to go!!!
suggestions so far have been; "Piggies have eaten the troughs too" "Porkers a'roasting" (though perhaps not appropriate here today in the North )
Any more suggestions before we run out of space?

TheLadyEvenstar · 13/08/2007 19:21

How about

Piggies who are about to let it all out

lol soz in mad mood!!!!!!!!

TheLadyEvenstar · 13/08/2007 19:34

Just asked my mum for suggestion and she said......

Hog's Anonymous

muppetgirl · 13/08/2007 19:37

The hospital has just rung me (oh, get me!) to tell me my iron level is 9 and that explains the racing heartbeat and out of breath-ness. Iron tablets for me...

  • lots of chocolate as the midwife said I should (It's the law she said!!)
muppetgirl · 13/08/2007 19:53

Unicorn - if you have any q's - do ask. I did months of research before settling on the stokke at the last minute. was going to get the quinny buzz before the shop owner did me a deal!
Muppet - love how MW has given you a chocolate diet! Am sure she is recommending the dark chocolate variety though - if i had to eat chocolate, I am a philistine and lovely the more commercial types! Bounty! yum!

j20baby · 13/08/2007 20:22

we need to start a new thread, then post a link on this one so people ca find us? i like the roasting one!

ChocolateHobnob · 13/08/2007 20:33

Hi all

Wow you have been chatting away!

I don't have piles (yet) Pheebe/J20, but I do have a more troubled digestive system than normal... I won't go into details! Good luck with yours... and if honey helps... go for it!

Alicet, your vacation sounds lovely.

Muppet - scary stuff! Glad you're okay though and they're sorting it all out. Congrats for keeping going with such low iron levels!

We're going away to York and a posh hotel tomorrow till Wednesday to give us a treat. I'm looking forward! Been to Mamas and Papas (again!) today and bought the Barnaby Button frieze/border for the nursery wall (we like that range and have decided to have a Barnaby themed nursery).

I am only 28 weeks (baby due 31 Oct) and am fine, touch wood, for now - guess I have all this to come!

j20baby · 13/08/2007 21:29
