Angechica · 18/07/2007 09:38

I finally had my first scan yesterday and I have been measured at 14 weeks +2. My due date is therefore 14 January.

It was amazing to see baby's heart beating and s/he was bouncing around a bit, though i had over filled my bladder and squished the poor mite.

MW says I am at mercy of my hormones and this has caused large tummy & increased appetite. Thinking back this is also what happens when I've been on the pill in the past. I just bloat up at the front!

MrsMcJnr · 18/07/2007 11:55

Hey Awen ? how amazing your appointment sounds! I know what you mean about weeing in the night, I?ve really noticed it the last week

Naetha ? ah yes, gin, my poison of choice (Mother?s Ruin ) love the stuff but its been a while ? I blame my own mother, when she went into labour with me, she had 4 strong ones!

Lilyloo ? fun about the mat clothes sorry to hear about your friend it is so awful whenever it happens it must be hard to be the pg friend too ? when I lost my baby in March, quite a few of my friends were pregnant and they avoided me, probably because they thought they?d be rubbing my nose in it or just didn?t know what to say but it actually made me feel even more isolated. Don?t let her feel that ? keep in contact. I?ve had a couple of ?Tinto de Verano?s? a lovely refreshing drink the Spaniards make which is red wine, cold with ice with lemonade in ? over the last month or so, mine have been very weak but at least I feel like one of the adults!!

Barristermum I?m the same about the smell ? I think all wine is off ? that said, the lemonade takes the edge off sorry to hear you are still being sick. I am having a sicky day today too, quite a few coughs that have nearly turned into something else Forgot we were exactly the same stage ? let?s hope we both bloom soon!

What a pain, sorry to hear that Goingfor3.

PCM ? where have you been???!! why the MN cold turkey? So glad all is going well hon Sounds like you?ve got the blooming that the rest of us are still waiting for! Don?t worry ? the bump appears pretty quickly ? I?m 14+1 and I?m not managing to keep the secret too well at work anymore by evening!

Gingeme ? sorry you are still feeling lousy, exciting about the flutters though! must be fun to have a heartbeat monitor at home

Efmc ? how do you know it is a DD so soon hon? Hope the dating scan goes well. I have mine on Friday. I too have swelling right there.

Angechica ? congratulations hon! You are a day ahead of me. Interesting about the hormones.

goingfor3 · 18/07/2007 15:48

I was right total waste of time. When the midwife came in to the room she was holding a box of pills I had already been given by the aneathetist 2 weeks ago and a blood test form, I had my bloods done on monday using the form given to me by the dr. The midwife they said i really didn't need to have come -arrrggggghhhhh! I was so exhausted I fell asleep when I got home and woke up just in time to pick up DD!

LilyLoo · 18/07/2007 15:56

hey all gingeme what a pain , seems a pg woman can think for herself then (ref to the pg women drinking thread)
I know mrsm, i will have to try and make an effort to spend time with her. She beating herself up a bit as it wasn't planned and took her a while to get use to it and now she has this happened.
EFMC was dd a typo or dop you know for real ?
Still trying to blag a next bargain in the hope of getting some nice mat stuff, just tried to find some stuff to take to Amsterdam this weekend frump is the only word that springs to mind!

goingfor3 · 18/07/2007 16:04

dd = due date, took me a few minutes to work it out!

LilyLoo · 18/07/2007 16:11

wow well done gf3

MrsMcJnr · 18/07/2007 16:33

So frustrating for you Goingfor3!!

Lilyloo ? I read a bit on that thread, lots of people getting very cross! I was in Formes at lunchtime, don?t know if they have one near you, they had some lovely stuff ? was so tempted as there was a 50% off sale but luckily the tops I liked they didn?t have in my size

Ahhh DD = due date!

barristermum · 18/07/2007 17:55

Hey girls - I have a question - was told last night I shouldn't be eating prawns - is that right and why not and what may I have done to my baby by consuming them on 4 or 5 occasions during this pregnancy?

Housemum · 18/07/2007 18:01

Barristermum - yep, prawns are the latest on the list of if-it-tastes-good-you-can't-have-it foods. Not sure why - perhaps it's pollution levels? Saying that, you can have cooked prawns that are served hot, so perhaps it's salmonella or listeria (can't remember which is in which foodstuff). Don't worry about it - prawns were not forbidden 4 years ago and I ate them when pg with both my DDs. Unless you bought prawns from a roadside foodseller who had displayed them in the sunshine I'm sure yours were fine!

gingeme · 18/07/2007 19:29

Evening ladies. I think the list of do's and dont's re food and drink changes all the time. I dont drink so I dont have to worry about any of that. I dont eat raw prawns during pg or peanuts or brie which I love.
Ive been told ready made packet salads are a no no too but Im not entirely sure why. I still eat and ate them and my babys are fine
I think thats about it. My boobs are still mega tender and getting booby juice so no probs feeding baby.
My ds2 wants to go to Chessington for his birthday but I wont be able to go on much except the baby rides I love all the roller coasters and stuff
Oh well better bath my littleys now. Rome at 9. Anyone else watching it?

Coriander73 · 18/07/2007 21:43

Hijack...PCM, how are you??? Let us know please!!!!!!!!!!!

nicky6 · 18/07/2007 22:05

Scan tomorrow - these 12 and a bit weeks have taken so long well done for good scans this week.

QUite nervous and still think they will say you have just eaten too many chips there is nothing there.

Naetha · 18/07/2007 22:32

Ooh I'm watching Rome - lots of gratuitous sex and violence and men dressed as Roman soldiers - love it!

Can't believe the series finale is on Sunday though! Although then its followed by Heroes which is meant to be very very good

Me and DH almost had a massive falling out tonight. He was on the phone to his mum and came this > < close to booking her flights (she lives in Jersey) to come and stay over Christmas, arriving on Christmas Eve and leaving on the 30th December. That's right, the day I'm due to give birth. I was quite upset about this as he'd not consulted me at all. He came back with "but you agreed my mum could come up over Christmas" which I'll admit I had. But that was 6 months ago before I got pregnant!!!!!!!!! I was so angry/upset!!!!!!! I don't say this very often, but MEN!!!!!

Now things have calmed down a bit (its amazing what Location Location Location and Rome can do to you) we've had a more chilled out chat, and decided (after some delicate persuasion from me) that his mum would probably like to see the baby (she doesn't visit very often) so it would be better if she came up 3 or 4 weeks after the birth, and why don't we book the flights once we know what's happening. Thank goodness that's sorted out! I can't think of much worse than going into labour with my MIL faffing around (she's even harder work than MY mum).

Anyway, at least that's sorted. Just need to get the spare room ready for my Dad who's having a last-minute "pop" by (he lives in North Wales, so hardly a pop) tonight. Unfortunately, he seems to thing its perfectly natural to turn up at midnight and have everybody up and awake for him! Bless him though, he's much easier than my mum or either of my in-laws!

Right, apologies for all the whining, just needed to get that off my chest Off to hoover upstairs

BeckyAu · 19/07/2007 07:55

Good morning ladies - how are you all? Hope everyone's ok?
How much weight has everyone put on? I've always struggled a bit with my weight and was 10st6lb before getting pregnant (I'm 5'4") and I've already put on 8lb though I don't look pregnant. Yes I have been eating a bit more as I've had a more relaxed attitude than before but I just feel fat and blobby not pregnant! I really really would like to try to avoid putting on vast quantities of weight as I just know I'll be rubbish at getting rid of it after Beanie arrives! Maybe I'm being silly? I just can't wait to feel something of Bean (still convinced I'm imagining all this and there's nothing there!)and feel pregnant! Oooohhhh I just know in a few months time I shall wish I was back at this stage being able to see my toes!
Our house move seems to be going ahead and I have some of the scariest cupboards to tackle. I am a terrible hoarder (well you never know when strange things may come in handy) and have lived here 10 years so there is going to be alot of rubbish I'd forgotten I had. Am tempted to get a skip! How much of a bump and how mobile etc will I feel at about 20-22 weeks or so? I think we'll be moving in about 6 weeks and don't know what I'll feel like. You lovely ladies have far more experience than me on these things!Sorry for waffling on - I'm off to Brighton today to work - hoe the sun shines!
Have a lovely day y'all! xxx

MrsMcJnr · 19/07/2007 10:44

Hey Barristergirl ? I am confused about prawns too, I can understand what the risks are with uncooked shellfish but not with cooked prawns. I guess there is always a higher risk of food poisoning with shellfish generally but surely cooked prawns are not a risk food?

Hello Housemum

Gingeme ? my nipple tweaking is not producing anything at the mo

Nicky6 - Hope it goes well at the scan today I know what you mean about the nerves. I have my dating scan tomorrow and whilst I saw the baby last week, I am still a bit scared that something will have gone wrong I guess we are all, always like that!

Naetha I watched Maternity Ward on Living2 last night instead DH was out and I sat sobbing and in floods of tears at all the deliveries and the first meetings of parents and babies ? kept telling my beanie not to worry, they were tears of joy and excitement but I was in a right mess Sorry about the row, I see where you are coming from TOTALLY, sounds like you came to a really good solution, well done

I am getting really cross with my MIL about Christmas. We were supposed to be at my folks abroad this year with my sisters and nephews (we do year about) and I am pretty gutted we can?t be there because I?d love to see my nephews on Christmas morning. MIL is now insisting on Christmas there and saying we should all stay there overnight too ? HELLO ? 37 weeks pregnant, rickety old camp bed in the lounge, one bathroom, drunk relies, Scotland, Winter, ice and maybe snow, 1 ½ hours away from my hospital ? NO! call me selfish but I don?t fancy that at all!! Actually, I sense that I am getting quite hormonal with PIL anyway, both are driving me insane with nagging about when they can tell the world and his wife and have a party to celebrate the news (which would be sweet if it wasn?t so damn scary) plus FIL thinks its funny to tell me how fat I am each time he sees me ? I?ve already told DH that I don?t want them coming to see me in hospital until at least 12 hours after the birth because they?ll enrage me am I really mean? Thanks for listening to my rant

Hello Beckyau hon you are not fat and blobby, you are pregnant! I was 2 stone heavier than I like to be when I got pregnant the MC didn?t help ? it left me 9 pounds heavier than before. I am actually lighter now than when I started because I lost 7 pounds through that bug I had on holiday. That won?t last with my appetite as it is though. How exciting the move will be ? best to tackle those cupboards now hon

ladylush · 19/07/2007 10:52

Awen - have a great graduation day today

nicky6 · 19/07/2007 10:57

definitely tackle the cupboards. because if the blooming phase ever does arrive apparently it doesnt stick around all that long.

am going to ring hospital in a minute just to double check i have got the right day and time for scan.

On the weight thing i know what you mean, the only thing i have ever had in my favour is flat stomach, quite curvy (thats what i like to say) everywhere else, and now i have this podgy little buddha belly. I dont think i have put on any weight though maybe a 2 pound.

SOme of the sites give you guidance about the ranges of weight which are ok in each trimester i think its 4-9 pounds in the first. so you are perfectly within the normal range.

Work quite tricky this week they have started booking me cases in for next year, and i have to keep saying to solicitors yeah thats great looking forward to it etc when i know i cant do any of them!!!

I cannot believe that i have been able to restrain myself from telling anyone except my mum - i am amazed - although DH still wishes we hadnt told anyone yet - goodness me they expect blood sweat and tears at times.

ANyway fingers crossed for today and all being ok

MotherofZ · 19/07/2007 10:59

yes, I've been worried about my weight as I put on 4 stones with last pregnancy and took bloody long to work of. Was 8 stn 6 lb pre-pregnancy and now 9 stn 5lb. One of the nurses where I work told me that maybe my 'natural pregnancy weight gain' is 4 stones and no matter how hard you try you will put that on.

Haven't been on for ages, but hope all is well with everyone, all blooming etc...???

Realised this morning how much my stomach is 'popping' out - tried toput on a top which I thought was rather baggy, but was sooo tight around the belly area - and boob area. That reminds me, must stop wearing underwired bras...been to lazy to go out and get myself measured.

MrsMcJnr · 19/07/2007 11:30

Good memory LadyLush Awen ? all the best hon! Go girl!

Nicky6 ? lucky you my tummy has always been my most hated bit, all my excess weight goes there. I have (usually!) got quite a high, small waist so it just makes the tummy look worse. I was worried that I?d have rolls of fat on top of my bump that I wouldn?t be able to hide (don?t know why really as don?t normally have rolls as such) but actually, my tum looks nice and toned at the mo (whilst sticking out and swollen ) so I?m actually liking it more than usual just now! It?s getting harder to inject though The coming back to work thing is tricky when you book ahead like we do isn?t it ? we?ve taken on projects I know I won?t see the end of.

MotherofZ ? I was told when I went to get measured at Bravissimo that underwireds are ok so long as the wires don?t dig into the soft tissue and sit on bone instead.

fruitful · 19/07/2007 13:31

MrsMcJ - next time your FIL tells you that you're fat, try "so are you; I'm pg, whats your excuse?"

None of my clothes fit at the moment, including the maternity ones. I am just starting to look pg rather than fat though, which is nice.

Naetha, sounds like you managed the Christmas issue quite well! I have invited MIL, FIL, SIL, BIL and 1-yr-old niece here for Christmas, on the understanding that they do the cooking and work and bring me tea as I sit on the sofa. Also that I am allowed to cancel at the last minute if I can't face it. Quite fancy having people here to entertain the kids though. With a bit of luck I'll have the baby at Christmas and I can have a nice quiet Christmas snuggled up in hospital with my newborn while the in-laws look after my older two ...

MotherofZ · 19/07/2007 13:49

non of my clothes fit either. hoping to go to the next sale on sat and get some maternity wear (and some nice stuff for DD and DH)

RavenclAwen · 19/07/2007 14:53
