Afternonn all, hope it goes quickly for those of you in work
Well i am now officially housebound until tommorrow, i have had a fake bake tan done. I feel stickly, stink and look like an orange umpa lumpa!
I have now resigned from taking ds football training and picking up dd from nursery, dp is finishing work early! I might even have a sleep, either that or pack for our hols no contest! The lady who did it was very nice and said she thought i looked really well to say i'm 18 weeks, where was she looking
I also went shopping yesterday and treated myself to a new dress for the wedding, i chickened out of the white one (i also felt fat in it!)I got a nice cream and black babydoll dress with small straps to support these boobs i'm growing.
Hope everyone else ok

Naetha · 03/08/2007 14:26

Hello all! I'm having a wonderful friday (other than the fact I'm at work I suppose!). Just been for my 20 week scan at 19 weeks, and everything was fine, measuring fine for dates, no anomalies detected and....I'm having a BOY!!!!

Me and DH are over the moon - we didn't mind whether we had a boy or a girl, but we both had hunches I was having a boy, so nice to be proved right! The scan took about 15 minutes and the sonographer was great - showed us all sorts of cool stuff, like views of the soles of the feet, you could see the leg bones and the arm bones and everything. He was quite active (omg I can say "he" instead of "it" now!!) but also did a really cute stretch, as well as reaching up with his hands to sort of rub his face - was absolutely awesome! The detail was amazing, fingers and toes and everything, I couldn't believe the growth either compared to just a month ago!

All we need to do now is think of a boy's name, which is a bit of a pain as we had girls names all sorted! DH likes Timothy, but our surname is Thackray, and I'm worried that it might be a bit of a mouthful. I really like Alex(ander) but DH has gone off that name (he changes his mind every 5 minutes!) and if we have a girl in the future we'd really like to call her Alexa so obviously we wouldn't be able to use that if we already had a boy called Alex.

Any ideas on names? I really don't know where to start!

On to the other really important subject of the day...cat poo!

Bizarrely, one of our cats has all of a sudden started pooing outside the litter tray, no idea why. We think he may have gone off the wooden cat litter we use and is pooing out of protest, but we've also had a lot of visitors round recently (painters and decorators for quotes, etc) and I don't think he's enjoyed his territory being invaded. We have a Feliway diffuser that we've had running for a week now, and no poos since then so maybe its working

Still on the subject of cats (kinda!) we had a hedgehog in our garden last night, and the cats were absolutely fascinated by it - not in an attacking way, just in a "what the hell is that!" way. The hedgehog just curled into a ball and the cats lost interest

Anyway, enough waffling for now, must get some work done!

mixedmama · 03/08/2007 15:09

Congrats on the scan, so pleased for you.

I have an inkling that our LO may be a boy, but we have a little boy already so sort of hoping for a girlie but have convinced myself of a boy.

Sorry no help with names, wouldnt know where to start since we both have foreign backgrounds, but if i was going to just go for something else I really like Atticus... I know it is unusual and a little strange but love the association with Atticus in To Kill a Mockingbird.

What kind of names are you looking for? Traditional, different, strong etc etc.

MotherofZ · 03/08/2007 15:19

mixedmama - you wrote that on another thread aswell! If you have a boy is that what you're going to call your LO?

MrsMcJnr · 03/08/2007 15:43

I really am bored this afternoon I can normally find a million work unrelated things to do at work lol but just can?t be bothered this afternoon. What I?d really like is a sleep!
Lilyloo thank you for the wish for time to go quickly, need that! When do you go on hols? And when is the wedding?
Naetha ? fabulous post! congratulations on your son! we should update the stats list with known flavours! Could you tell or did you have to be told? the scan sounded amazing, so much detail. Getting impatient for my scan at 21 weeks now!! Have you looked on thinkbabynames.com? that might help. I don?t feel like I?ve added any to my list for ages! I do like Alexander, DH likes Zander too Thanks for coming back to me on the cat issue (thought you might!) good idea about the Feliway, I?ve asked DH to pick up a refill on the way home. I?ve noticed that she wants to be beside me whenever she can so maybe it is related to me. Funny about the hedgy!
Mixedmama ? it?s odd, when I think about our LO, I think it?s a girl but when I see it on screen I become convinced it?s a boy. I really don?t know what to think. I was so sure that the baby we lost was a girl. Atticus is interesting go on share your names!

LilyLoo · 03/08/2007 16:46

Fab news Naetha, can't believe we starting on the 20 weeks scans already! You right MrsMc we should update on the list I at wedding on Sun and off to Malta for a week on Mon looking forward to it.
Naetha could you see his sangly bits or not ? I not going to find out but might just look out to see what i can see. I think i having a boy too, we are calling it Alfie Jack if it is, if it's a girl we still don't have a name and dp keeps changing his ind on that one too Naetha.
I also like Toby and George but can't have either of them as we have family with those.

LilyLoo · 03/08/2007 16:47

sangly ? Dangly

MrsMcJnr · 03/08/2007 16:54

Have a great holiday

mixedmama · 03/08/2007 16:57

MotherofZ no we are going to call him Ediz but if we didnt have to have a Muslim name and all those kind of considerations that is what I would like. Not sure what DH would make of that tho.

LouiseSJ · 03/08/2007 18:19

Naetha - glad that your scan went well. It sounds so exciting. I'm having mine on 20th August by which time I will be almost 21 weeks. We are not going to ask the sex, but as some of the others have already asked you, I'd be interested to know if you could see for yourself that it is a boy or if it had to be pointed out to you.

Hope everybody is well. Enjoy the weekend. We should have some sunshine at last!

LouiseSJ · 03/08/2007 18:21

By the way, if you go to The Works bookshop they have a book of 75,000 baby names. We have been skimming through it. Found lots of girls name but still struggling to find a boy's name that we agree on.

mixedmama · 03/08/2007 18:22

LouiseSj - boys names are so much harder arent they.

gingeme · 03/08/2007 20:08

Neatha fab a boy! Excelent news.
DH and I were talking about names this afternoon. We already decided on Amy for a girl since I fell for ds3. I also like Zoe because you cant shorten or lenghthen them. Realy dont have a clue about boys names though. Think weve used all of them. I like to carry on relations names but weve done that with second names etc. I realy like Sam again because its short and sweet. But I have turned to Nathan too but dh dont like it. Still got a little while yet to mull it over.
Well have a good weekend all. Were going for a pic nic tommorrow in Highgate Woods and Chessington Sunday.
xxx

mummyto2littleprincess · 03/08/2007 21:30

oh i got my doppler this morning i did test it out but got nothing then went out
when i came home i was trying for ages then asked dp for help and guess what he found a heartbeat im sure it wasnt mine but it took a while to find

mummyto2littleprincess · 03/08/2007 21:33

as for the names i like jordan for a girl and jayden for a boy

but not sure if dp like jordan

Bettymamma · 03/08/2007 22:04

mummy2littleprincess - Jordan - shes going to be associated with Jordan though - but i'm not sure how long Jordan's fame will last however! Jayden is cool.

Naetha - a boy! oh fabulous, how exciting. I want to know what flavour mine is NOW!

Angechica - i love the expression pram porn. I have been surfing the net all week looking at prams too and hate to admit it but just won a 2nd hand Phil & Teds on ebay. I know its early and i'm only 19 weeks on Monday but my Maclaren is bust and dd needs a buggy for our holiday! Phil & Ted can be double or single - very handy.

Mixedmama - Atticus is such a cool name! Just asked my dh who said no outright but I think its great. I do like unusual names.

MotherofZ - did we ever find out what our dd's name is? I'm intrigued.

MrsMcjnr - your posts are incredible - brilliant for helping me catch up. Love the name Alexander (for Naetha's as well) - haven't ever met a bad one. Yes, share names everyone its fun. I do like the weird ones though!

Everyone else hello - hope you're well xx

Housemum · 04/08/2007 09:05

Morning! We've been having the names conversation - girls outweigh boys on the possibilities list. Front runners at the mo are Olivia, Isobel, Alexandra and Oliver, Oscar, Miles. Traditional is what we are going for! The problem with boys' names is that there are so few nice ones and so many kids with those names - I love Thomas, but you get about 4 in each class! Same for Daniel or James - Ethan seems big round here too.

spud01 · 04/08/2007 11:06

Just thought i would update list hope no one minds, ive added scampynoodle + firsttimemother. Ive also added naetha news hope you dont mind and congrates too. LouiseSJ hope you dont mind, but i put you down for a surprise, this being because you expressed on one of your posts that your not going to find out, it can soon be changed if you change your mind. I did try scanning other posts but didnt see anymore. Ive added myself as a surprise and i wont be changing my mind, I found out with my second what I was having and was disapointed. Please dont take that the wrong way, i was happy i was having a ds to go with my dd, I was just disapointed with myself i didnt wait.

Anyway i hope everyone is well and everyone has a good weekend.

spud01 · 04/08/2007 13:01

hello everyone

Just been looking through baby names and still have no idea what i would like for a boy. In the girls names upto now the three favourites are; elena, emily or sophie, even though there are a few others too. When im choosing a name now I usually check the meaning and where the name comes from. I think I will have a look through the name threads for a bit inspiration + it will give me something to do x

barristermum · 04/08/2007 13:08

hiya all! Funny but everyone seems really high yesterday and i was too - it was such a lovely day and for once i didn't feel sick and i got SO excited about having a baby - glad we were all buzzing! congratulations naetha on such a fab scan. My dh is adamant we should not find out the flava - i don't really get it - i figure that if the person doing my scan knows why on earth shouldn't I? - I'm growing it after all! But since he has such strong views I guess we won't and we are doing names for both. Not really tackled the boys yet but possible girls are Cerys, Erin, Ailish or Mairie, with Frances as a middle name. I'm Welsh, dh irish so we are mining the celtic vein! I know some people who called their son atticus from TKAM and I think it's gorgeous.

Housemum - your daughter is adorable! Burst with pride!

Gingeme - you must be frying in Highgate Woods - we are in E Finchley and the laundry is drying on the line like nobody's business! We are off to lincoln to see firends. Wd rather be pottering about quietly but will enjoy when i get there I guess!

LilyLoo · 04/08/2007 15:25

Hi all am of all of you with sunshine it absolutely pouring down here!
Hope everyone well and sme lovely names there, keep posting as need ideas.
Thanks mrsmcj.

kerrlou · 04/08/2007 16:37

Hello - sorry haven't had chance to reply to all kind welcome messages. Yes is my first baby at 35 Really cool to see I sm not alone.

Alot of the messages were making me laugh - I have had crispy duck pancakes, alot of salt and a bit of a WAKEUP! scream at my partner (sorry don't know lingo yet).

Am now 19 and bit weeks and having scan wednesday after next - I think we are going to find out what it is so v exciting!

Must return to DIY now - suspect won't have time or inclination to do soon.

Naetha · 04/08/2007 19:40

I'm also Welsh, and I'd like my LO to have a Welsh middle name the same as me and my sister, so it doesn't make every day life difficult (most people don't have a clue how to spell or pronounce Sioned or Siwan) but enough to keep them in touch with their roots.

I love the names Owain and Geraint, but it depends on the first name, as I don't want embarrassing initials (if we went for Ben as a first name and Owain as a second, initials would be BOT - not a good thing!). I also love the name Dylan, but apparently (according to DH) Dylan/Dillon is Yorkshire slang for a dickhead / wanker, i.e. so and so is such a dillon, however I've never heard it used in this context - if anyone can enlighten me, please do!

Naetha · 04/08/2007 20:01

Sorry my mind is all over the place at the moment - I press post message, then 30 seconds remember what else I was going to say!

As for first names, I love:
Max
Zack (Zachary)
Leon / Leo
Theo

but can't have any of them One of our cats is called Max, Zachary Thackray would sound comical, DH's name is Lee so Leo/Leon is out, and Theo Thackray sounds like it should be the beginning of a tongue twister or limerick. If anyone has any suggestions along these lines, feel free to suggest away!
