@UnicornDust17 so sorry to hear that. A good friend of mine was too and spent several weeks on bed rest and in hospital due to frequent heavy bleeds - not easy when you've got another child at home too. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 it doesn't happen again for you x

laura0390 · 12/03/2019 08:09

Thank you everyone for the welcome!
@bakingabean mw appointment went well, she listened for the heartbeat and found it very easily, if the old wives tales are anything to go by it's a girl as was pretty fast!! Feel reassured, for now anyway!

PinkLady89x · 12/03/2019 12:11

Just been to the doctors with a UTI and been given antibiotics which I'm not all that happy about taking but she said I have to otherwise it can be very dangerous!
Has anyone else had a UTI in pregnancy? After reading about it I'm now worried for little bubs

ScotsBaby2 · 12/03/2019 12:23

@PinkLady89x I did last time. I took the antibiotics and urine was clear next time. UTI can bring on early labour if not treated.

Welcome @Snowflake9 and congratulations. I won't hear heartbeat at midwife until 22 weeks.

Take the antibiotics, they are safe for pregnancy and an untreated UTI can cause alot more pain and trouble. I have had UTI's all my life. Probably about 5 a year due to a kidney problem I have.

Thanks for the welcome!

Just got back home for lunch then back to work I go, when all I want to do is curl up and sleep!

Zzzzz

FraggleRocking · 12/03/2019 18:37

@Pinklady89x I had a UTI at 8 weeks, and was nervous about taking the antibiotics as I’m on a lot of meds already, but took them for 3 days and was all clear at 11 weeks.

Sorry if I’ve missed this, not very good at keeping up to date - but has anyone else been suffering from bad heartburn? Are there triggers?

PinkLady89x · 12/03/2019 18:50

I went home and started taking them but then the doctors phoned me and told me not to now that they've discussed it! I was like, I already have! They have sent the sample off and said in 3 days I'll know if I need some or not. Considering she said if I left a UTI untreated, it could cause a miscarriage, to then phone and say don't take the meds was a bit concerning for me! Now I don't know what to do! But having said that, I do feel my symptoms have gone away and maybe they just felt I didn't have one after all? Who knows!
Thanks for the advice ladies

FraggleRocking · 12/03/2019 18:55

Oh dear! Mixed messages can be really stressful. Hopefully you’ll have a clear answer in 3 days.

Schmexy · 12/03/2019 19:33

@pinklady89x the same thing happened to me at new year, but I'd already taken most of the course by the time a different person said I didn't need them. Really annoying!

I've had some pain down the right side of my abdomen today, really far over so not sure if it's round ligament pain or something more worrying- anyone else experienced much pain? I'd give it a 2-3/10. So far pregnancy has been surprisingly uncomfortable, not sure why I thought it wouldn't be but I was definately not prepared!

stylix1981 · 12/03/2019 21:05

@pinklady89x I was told last week i had a severe uti and was given cefalexin. I took them for 3 days then stopped them as i have online access to my gp records and my sample had come back clear even though it had leucocites when the gp dipped it.

I saw the gp again as i was still gettin abdo pains and pain in my back and they now think i have round ligament pain which my midwife thinks is a little early at 18+5 so she is seeing me thursday.

Dont worry about the ones you have taken you will be fine, they have certain antibiotics that are classed as safe to prescribe in pregnancy and it was most likely one of these that was given to you.

Kariana · 12/03/2019 22:46

For anyone still worried about movements I started to feel them at 13 weeks, then after a few days there was nothing for about five days. Then they came back but around 16 weeks disappeared entirely again for several days. I was a bit worried the first time they disappeared but now at 19 weeks I'm feeling them everyday several times a day. It's totally normal for them to disappear early on as the baby is still so small that even a slight change in position can mean you no longer feel them. Don't worry about it until after 24 weeks.

Also if you haven't felt any yet I didn't feel any until 22 weeks first pregnancy and my placenta wasn't in an awkward place. I just had a small baby who wasn't very active! (He's a very physically able toddler now so no issue there!)

bubblegumunicorn · 13/03/2019 09:05

I need some advice around maternity leave! I've been out of work since November which is both a blessing and a curse! But I've got a job just not a start date which is a nightmare! Basically the last start date they had meant the last two days of training clashed with a trip to london for DHs birthday and they wouldn't let me start. So that trip is in two weeks time so realistically I'm hopeing for an early April start date as long as they will let me have time for appointments if not then I won't be starting at all!

Anyway does it even sound worth starting a new job at potentially 24-28 weeks pregnant when I could be on maternity leave 5-9 weeks later! It's 6 weeks training and I just have no idea if I should just sack it off focus on the baby and on studying instead for an actual career and just accept that we are managing on a lower wage! I can also get maternity allowance from 29 weeks pregnant which will be about the same time as I would be starting work any way.

This was a really long one thank you if you read it all haha :)

QueenofFox · 13/03/2019 12:19

@bubblegumunicorn are you sure you can get maternity allowance? I had to be in work for some of pregnancy in order to qualify. I started a new job in Nov and contract ends in May. I've decided to finish there and not extend and stick with maternity allowance because, based on previous pregnancies, I just won't be able to cope physically and mentally with working well into the third trimester. It's a difficult one but I probably wouldn't bother unless you think not having it on your cv will ahem your prospects next year.

QueenofFox · 13/03/2019 12:22

*harm

bubblegumunicorn · 13/03/2019 12:23

@QueenofFox yes I spoke to them a while ago because I was worried about it and the rule is you have to have worked at least 13 weeks in the tax year before you have the baby so from April 2018- the day the baby is born

QueenofFox · 13/03/2019 12:45

That's great! I think if you can afford it I'd leave it, you'll have a lot going on with pregnancy to take on a New job as well!

curlywurlywooo · 13/03/2019 14:04

@UnicornDust17 fab news on scan!

Had mine yesterday and all is fine! Was fascinating, they went through the brain, lip, kidneys, spine, everything, even a colour doppler which showed the blood flow through the heart!
We opted not to find out the sex (team yellow) and she turned the screen away while she looked at the bladder, but when we were looking at the baby’s thighs I didn’t see a third leg!! So thinking it might be a girl Grin only 20 weeks or so til we find out!
Have stopped receiving email notifications again so will have a read back now!

Chocolate89 · 13/03/2019 15:21

@pinklady89 I wouldn't worry about the antibiotics you've already taken. It is much safer to treat uti in pregnancy than get a bad dose. Some docs are just a bit nervy with all antibiotics and want a lab result to go by! I'm on prophylactic anti biotics to prevent uti because I ended up in ICU for 2 weeks 5 years ago for a bad one (EXTREMELY rare so don't be worrying😂) but I've had so many consultants and pharmasist reassure me that it is safe to take them.

Went from feeling no movements at all and worrying, to now feeling full on kicks that my dd can feel (19+3) just over the course of a few days! so anyone not feeling the flutters yet at 17/18 weeks dont worry, they will come! Team yellow 💛

EverythingNow · 13/03/2019 15:53

I'm 19+3 and have felt.very little over the last few days. I am fat so I wonder if that's the problem as all I've felt has been flutters/popcorn rather than actual.kicks or any thing of substance.

With dd3 I didn't feel.much til later on but I did have an anterior placenta, this time its posterior.

As this is number 4 I do.feel a bit worried if I'm honest. Roll on 25th March.

EverythingNow · 13/03/2019 15:54

Sorry that's not clear. I've been feeling movement since quite early on but for me it's not got clearer or stronger yet. And for the last 3 days I've not really felt much at all.

Happy2be · 13/03/2019 15:59

These headaches are definitely the worst 🤦🏼‍♀️ Probably doesn’t help I had nightshift last night. Thanks to whoever mentioned 4heads! Tried that and it’s been a slight help..can’t wait for them to start easing off!

Chocoholic01 · 13/03/2019 17:03

Hello everyone, I'm living abroad and expecting my 1st 24th August, found this group and would love to join - am figuring out a lot away from home and friends/family so what a relief to find a community of people all going through similar things! Hope everyone is doing well x

ABearandABump · 13/03/2019 17:12

@PinkLady89x I've had 4 UTIs since Christmas and been on different antibiotics for each one. Finally prescribed Cefalexin(?) and it's gone.

Also got called in by my maternity hospital to get checked over due to the bleeds I've had the last few months, cervix is closed (thanks to my GP advising me it's possibly open!), the blood isn't coming from anywhere near the baby. They could see some more old blood coming down but advised it seems to be nothing to worry about!

ScotsBaby2 · 13/03/2019 21:09

Welcome @Chocoholic01

I've not been feeling wriggles for ages. I'm 17 weeks and I think they have calmed down but they will be back and before we know it we will be moaning about elbows in ribs.

Anymore for the fb group?
