@milly2000 yanbu for asking to work from home a couple of days, won't hurt to ask!

I had a scan today for monitoring, and apparently I've got a giant baby, he's between the 92nd & 95th percentile 😂 apparently if he doesn't slow down in growth then I could be having him in 10 weeks! 😱

Bakingabean · 08/05/2019 21:47

28 weeks today to officially on the final straight! I have scan tomorrow- originally because at the 12 week one my blood pressure was high but since then it's been on the low side or normal (so thinking the high reading was anxiety related!).

In the last week I've developed what I believe to be sciatica on and off. It's in my right hip/back of pelvis/butt cheek. And it's hideously painful for 20 seconds or so and then goes away. Sometimes I can't put weight on my right leg... so I get stuck standing where I am until it goes. Anyone else with similar? Arrrgh it's only going to get worse in the next 12 weeks isn't it!

Kileah18 · 08/05/2019 22:23

Hi guys does anyone know what way it works with holidays and maternity leave? My holidays renewed in April so I've full holidays can I use them first then go on Mat leave or is there rules about not using them at once?
I work in a small salon so I don't have an HR department or anything just a boss who hates the fact I'm pregnant!

@Bakingabean I've been having similar issues but it's at night time not sciatica I don't think just when I'm in bed layin on my side I wake up in agony then turn over then a few hours later wake up sore on the other side! Also been waking up in the mornings with tired achy legs!! The joys 🙈

PhoebeBear · 09/05/2019 00:25

@Kileah18 I'm glad I read your comment! My holidays renewed in April too and I've just put them in. So were entitled to 4 weeks and I'm due to take my maternity July 1st as I'm due August 8th.. it works out that I've over accumulated 2 weeks worth of my holidays rather than the whole 4 weeks so I've put them in June 16th then once they're done I'll start my Mat leave straight after. I hope that helps you 😊

Bakingabean · 09/05/2019 06:29

@kileah18 I'm sore at night too when lying on my sideline. I've found propping myself up with about a hundred pillows and sleeping in an almost seated position really helps!

And my holidays renewed in April too, my boss has encouraged me to use them before mat leave. I'm taking 2 weeks at the beginning of July and then starting mat leave mid July. And have already used a week. So I only have 10 days left for the rest of the year... so I guess I am able to use them all? Sorry if that doesn't help!

Kileah18 · 09/05/2019 09:45

Thanks for your replies!!
@PhoebeBear does that mean you will use 2 weeks worth of holidays just before mat leave then use the other 2 when mat leave is almost up?

I'm due the 5th of August but would of loved to use my whole holidays first then Maternity leave as by the time I go back to work the holidays will have renewed again. I was hoping to finish work 22nd June take holidays then allow maternity leave to start I'm entitled to 28 days for the year April to April. This is my first baby so I've no idea how to go about it!

@Bakingabean I've a big massive pregnancy pillow it's not helping lol I think this is going to be the start of the uncomfortable feeling!

PhoebeBear · 09/05/2019 10:53

@Kileah18 ah we're due quite close together. My boss has told me I will get paid for the other two weeks when I'm on maternity leave instead. There's a number I have to ring up and ask for them to be paid apparently.. I'm not too fussed as otherwise I'd lose them and also maternity pay isn't the greatest so could do with the extra money

Kileah18 · 09/05/2019 16:09

@PhoebeBear I get what you mean now lol! Thank you! Contacting my citizen advice office to see what way it works for me because I don't want to loose my holidays!

Mondayblues7 · 10/05/2019 06:52

@Bakingabean sorry to hear of your pains! Have you mentioned to midwife? My friend had similar and was able to get some good physio in before baby which helped alot.

As for maternity , we get 24 days a year I think plus bank holidays. Will have to check my contract. I work for a small family run company so no HR department. Only an office job but no risk assessment done, they don't like me going to appointments and not making an attempt to make up the time through my lunch break. Get called sick note if I have the day off due to pregnancy related stuff . The average age is about 50 so I guess it's been a while since they have had a preggo in the office.

Anywho. I am due 26th August and was planning to start my mat leave a week before and take 5 days holiday the week before that. One good thing about working at such an old fashioned place is they allow you to roll holiday forward. So anything I don't use before January next year will just be added on to my next year's allowance. Which I will tag on to the end of may maternity leave.

Will have to ask him today actually. Thanks all for reminding me.

New topic BREASTS - Please tell me I am not the only one who can not stand to wear a bra at the moment? My breasts feel so irritable and sensitive. Very itchy too. Gave in and took it off yesterday and just ordered 3 cotton nursing bras .

Bakingabean · 10/05/2019 07:31

@mondayblues7 thanks! I'm actually seeing the midwife today for my 28 week appointment so I will ask her then. My job is pretty physical so when it hits and I can't move for a minute, I just have to stand there until it passes!

And as for bras, Asda have some really comfy ones (not very supportive though). I was quite surprised how comfy they actually were that i ended up buying more. They're like crop top type ones. I think called "comfort bra"..

UnicornDust17 · 10/05/2019 11:16

How are you doing @milly2000? Did you ask about working from home more? I may do this soon.

@Bakingabean what did your midwife say about the pain? The physio I saw gave me a hip support and some exercises. Hope it eases..

Yes @Mondayblues7 same here re bras... I need to invest in some non wired ones pdq. 🙈🙈

milly2000 · 10/05/2019 11:20

@UnicornDust17 haven't asked yet plan to ask on Monday! How do you think you'll go about it? I see no reason he would say no to it personally but I'll soon find out.

Bakingabean · 10/05/2019 18:40

@unicorndust17 midwife said it was a common side effect and has referred me for physio. I probably won't get a call from the physio until at least a week on Monday unfortunately. I think I'll have to just take it easier next week at work. VERY glad it's Friday today!

Hope everyone has a relaxing weekend!

bubblegumunicorn · 11/05/2019 11:38

@Kileah18 I would call acas if you haven't already I've asked them so much as I've been out of work since November (probably the actual date of conception) 😂🤦‍♀️ and I'm going back on Monday I'm terrified they will just fire me but acas have been so helpful with all my rights they will know about holidays too 😊

bubblegumunicorn · 11/05/2019 11:42

@Bakingabean the Asda ones are supposed to be amazing my mum recommended them to me as the hospital told her to get them when she had breast cancer!

keebo · 12/05/2019 09:07

Morning all, I hope everyone is enjoying some sunshine this weekend. We're having a sneaky weekend away in Dorset which is just lovely - a proper mini holiday. Can't wait for a cream tea today!
@kileah18 sorry to hear you're in pain. Have you tried a wedge pillow to go under the bump? I just bought one and I 💖 it!
@MondayBlues7 I had a really sore back on Friday which turned out to be my bra. The only ones I find comfortable and supportive enough are m&s nursing bras. They're very granny-ish but I don't care! They hold everything up and in place and seem to distribute my new boob weight quite nicely around my back and shoulders.
I'm also probably late to the party but have just discovered maternity tights! Sooooo comfy!

Mondayblues7 · 12/05/2019 17:11

@keebo - Dorset is very close to where I am! So lovely down there .

I have bought some nursing bras on Amazon that my friend swore by when she was pregnant. I have just have been going braless for the last couple of days.

Lower back is particularly achey today. And I can not quench my thirst no matter what I drink. So annoying.

Hope everyone has a great week!

ScotsBaby2 · 12/05/2019 22:09

@keebo I have the M&S ones too. I love them. I was sad to have to let them go after baby 1 lol

Started antenatal classes this evening! There was a lot of information to take in on labour and birth. And quite awkward for us meeting a whole room full of people we are kinda expected to be friends with- I'm not great at the getting to know people small talk!

Has anyone else booked or started any?

Kathryn19 · 13/05/2019 23:12

@Bakingabean I'm starting them in just over 2 weeks - I am also dreading the awkward intro small talk! Sounds like useful information though?

ScotsBaby2 · 14/05/2019 07:38

@Bakingabean ours start in a months time. We didn't do much chatting in the classes but we met for coffee the week after they finished and that's when the relationships started building.

OP posts:
Jelliestogether · 14/05/2019 08:51

@Bakingabean ours start in 4 weeks! I'm quite looking forward to it! I'm guessing it's going to be a bit awkward at first, hopefully you'll all be friends in no time!

chiatta · 14/05/2019 16:59

Hi all, just thought I’d post because I spend more time on the FB group now.
I’m 26 + 3, all cooking well. Went through a rough stage of bad sleep but that seems to be getting better, also had some PGP/SPD whatever it’s called but taking little steps seems to have lessened it.
I think I’ve got the nesting instinct because I have a new interest in cleaning (this has never been a thing for me)!
@Mondayblues7 which are these bras?
Have night shifts this week :( anyone else doing nights?

Kathryn19 · 14/05/2019 17:33

@chiatta I seem to have the opposite of nesting! I'm finding I'm so tired I have developed a new "it'll do" attitude haha.

PhoebeBear · 14/05/2019 18:04

@Kathryn19 I feel the same lol
Babies room is complete but I know it needs a going over with the carpet cleaner and I keep thinking 'I'll do it another time'
Leaving it all for my mat leave when I'm bored and need to do something
