Thanks @keebo & @Jokie it's a nightmare! I was off for 2 weeks with a sick-line at around 20 weeks it said on it hypertension in pregnancy but I think work is the reason for my high blood pressure! There's so many other issues like in a 12 hour shift (9am to 9pm) we all get ONE 30 minute break and that's all! Then all the 8 hour shifts it's one 30 minute break Also. They won't even provide me with a proper stool when doing pedicures so I'm bent right over squashing my tummy it's so painful after an hour/90mins of being bent right over!
It's a small business just a hair and beauty salon so they don't have any proper management just the boss & her daughter 🙄. I'm only 24, and this is my first baby but I think they know they can get away with anything really 😢.

When do you all think you will go on maternity leave? I'm thinking last day will be around the 22nd of June. I'm due the 5th of August but I'm literally standing or bent over all day and doing 18-25 flights of stairs a day so I'm already exhausted & finding it tough with how bad my work are treating me etc!

Sorry for the rant and depressive posts I'm just out of work but hope you all are enjoying the lovely weather and having a nice Easter break!

Jokie · 20/04/2019 16:47

@Kileah18 : I do a desk job so sit on my ass a lot (but do a lot of travelling to clients) and from mid June, I have a list two days working from home /reduced travel.

No wonder you're so tired considering the conditions you're working on. Is it even legal to only give one 30 min break for 12hrs work? I thought you needed it every 4hrs?

EverythingNow · 20/04/2019 17:39

@kileah18 I'm due similar to you, 4th August and I've told work I'm finishing 28th June. I work term time so don't get annual leave but I'm on my feet all day - thankfully not as long shifts as you but I'm also 16yrs older so I am ducking out early!

Blueberry2018 · 20/04/2019 20:22

Any full time teachers here going to try and work till end of summer term? I'll be 37 + 6 on last day of work.... dont know whether to go for it or finish at 36 wks or see how i go!

EverythingNow · 20/04/2019 21:44

@blueberry2018 not a teacher but TA (plus mum to 3 and studying for a degree).

I'd be 38.5wks (and 40yrs old) when term ends and I just can't manage that, it would be later than I've finished with any of my 3 before, in a job that involves lots of standing, squatting and being on feet.

And that's without doing the extra hours teachers do!

If I was younger, and didn't have 3 kids already it might be different but I notice I get Braxton hicks quite frequently now if I do a lot of walking. Also I'll need to come back before the summer to get holiday pay I think so would aim to come back late June 2020 if I take a year.

There are definitely some teachers in the group on the FB page.

ScotsBaby2 · 20/04/2019 22:11

@Blueberry2018 I was a full time teacher with my first. I put my due date (24th December) as the date to start maternity knowing I could be off work with a pregnancy related sickness from 36 weeks and may leave would kick in. Work recommended that I go off when I was 38+4 as I had to go into hospital for reduced movements. She came at 40+4.

This time I'm due on 18th August and term ends when I'll be 33+4 this time.

I would risk it knowing you could go off a couple of weeks before and trigger mat leave anyway. It'll be a wind down term too so should be slightly more chilled.

ScotsBaby2 · 20/04/2019 22:15

@Kileah18 I would request that you have a risk assessment completed for the bending up and down plus flights of stairs. I think you need to be more honest and firm with them. If they don't increase your number of breaks then you will end up sick and off which helps no one.

Bakingabean · 21/04/2019 07:20

@everythingnow I'm also finishing june 28th! Can't wait! I'll be 36 weeks.

I work partly in a kitchen so am on my feet all day, plus it's a fairly physical job. I'm having to ask colleagues for help lifting deliveries etc. My chef is away for 2 weeks now so I'm covering for her- it's going to be knackering. I think by the time it gets to June I'm going to be hideously hot and uncomfortable. Urgh.

@kileah18 I agree with @scotsbaby2 as for a risk assessment and explain how things are affecting you.

Hope everyone is enjoying the Easter weekend!

Kcjoe · 21/04/2019 08:56

Oh my..I've missed so much on here. I've been using the fb group but keep forgetting to check on here. We're now on page 21 and I haven't looked since page 12! I've read the last couple of pages. I'll catch up eventually.

@milly2000 I will be bottle feeding too. With my son, I used to sterilize the bottles and put the required amount of boiled water in them all. I then put lids on and left them on the side. My son for some reason would not drink warm bottles. When he needed a bottle, I would add the powder and mix. He drank it straight away. It was great for night time feeds. I used to take the bottle/s up to bed and the powder and didn't even have to come downstairs! I bought milk powder pots that you put the correct measurements in each day. Then your powder was already measured for quickness and when out and about. My midwife this time said "DO NOT buy one of those prep machines.." not sure why 🤷🏼‍♀️

@kileah18 hi! I too am shared care, consultant led but with usual midwife appts. I have a scan booked for every 4 weeks.

@Sacrecoeur0712 good luck with the stitch x

milly2000 · 21/04/2019 09:11

@Kcjoe thanks, I'm taking everyone's tricks and tips on this as they come!

Has anyone had hot itchy feet mainly on the soles in the evening? I'm not sure if it's just where I'm up and about all day but it's not very nice.

Kileah18 · 21/04/2019 09:37

Thanks everyone for the support and advice, I've been asking for a few weeks now with no changes 😤 I only started in that salon last August so just about qualify for statutory maternity and no more! To be honest I think they're trying to "push me out" and make me leave so they won't have to pay Mat leave. I'm staying put though I'll stick it out as long as I can 🙏 roll on June time! 😊

I'm 25 weeks tomorrow 🥳 I've felt these last few weeks have dragged in!

Kileah18 · 21/04/2019 09:39

@milly2000 I've had this! My ankles swell too but I think it's from standing all day then my feet are soo itchy!

sacrecoeur0712 · 21/04/2019 09:41

@Kcjoe thank you. In a new twist the dr rang me to say that the lead consultant had reviewed my scan reports and wants to wait and do one more scan before they decide on the stitch. No clinic this week because of bank holiday so that won't be until next Monday now. More uncertainty and waiting.

@milly2000 I don't want to alarm you but itchy soles can be a sign of obstetric cholestasis - I think you should give your midwife a call and mention it. I'm sure it's fine but best to be on the safe side x

bubblegumunicorn · 21/04/2019 12:10

Has anyone noticed little quirks from your baby yet? I've been noticing for the last couple of weeks she loves music and starts wiggling every time music starts playing!

bubblegumunicorn · 21/04/2019 12:29

Just caught up again I haven't been getting notifications but we're almost done with prep for the baby we've had a lot gifted by friends and family including her entire wardrobe up to 3 months her cot Moses basket and play mat! I'm trying to get everything sorted this month as I'm going back to work on the 13th of May I've not worked my entire pregnancy so far I had to leave whilst we were TTC and it's taken months for a start date for my new job! I was sceptical about taking it but I decided it was better to have a job to go back to when mat leave is over and we want to move house so a second income is a must really I'm so confused as to what to do about maternity leave as I will be starting at 28 weeks so realistically I'm looking at 8-10 weeks before going off again ( I have told them I'm pregnant already so that shouldn't be an issue) and DH has also just taken a new job with a nice pay rise but has lost his right to paternity pay which is a bit of a nightmare too but shouldn't be too bad in the long run.

Blueberry2018 · 21/04/2019 16:13

Thanks those commenting who are teachers/tas present and past :-) i think i'll see how i am nearer the time. Im hoping like @ScotsBaby2 said it'll be winding down time anyway, usually is. Its just because I have reception class, quite active and full on! If i was with older children i probably wouldn't worry as much!

Blueberry2018 · 21/04/2019 16:16

@bubblegumunicorn I'm the same. Have sourced lots second hand as good as new and just bought big things brand new like nursery furniture and buggy system etc. I'm going to baby show to pick up last few things i need in birmingham in may, anyone else going? Not sure if i'll find anything there apart from a load of gimmicky things but we'll see. i have a list of what im looking for so will just wait and see what i can find. If not it'll be a nice day out with hubby before baby girl arrives! Cot and furniture going up next weekend and clothes can go away and then i can get square and go from there!

Kcjoe · 21/04/2019 17:36

@Blueberry2018 I am going to the baby show with my partner. We're going to test drive some prams. I have my eye on a bundle that I like online but we want to test drive first!

keebo · 21/04/2019 19:15

He he! Just tried the remote control on the Timmy truck that someone mentioned a while ago. It's brilliant! I can't stop giggling though which sort of ruins it!
@Blueberry2018 I'm teaching right til the end of term but I'm not due til 15th Aug, but I teach year 6 so can avoid too much running about. I'm sure it would if I were in EYFS. When are you thinking of going back to work?

Blueberry2018 · 21/04/2019 20:19

@Kcjoe sounds like a plan!

Blueberry2018 · 21/04/2019 20:25

@keebo My situation is difficult so I don't really know at the moment. Basically I rang the union for advice as I am currently on a full time permanent contract and want to go back to work to a job share, working either 2 or 3 days a week. Just feel there is no point in being paid to look after others kids when im paying ppl to look after mine! We can afford for me to go part time so thats what I want to do. However comments have been made at staff meeting that there was only 1 job share and that is being shared by 2 teachers who have just come back off mat leave.... so i dont think im likely to get job share. Union said they have to consider it but can refuse despite others being given it- i have no grounds for discrimination etc... so i am going to send letter to governors and head in january asking for job share. If answer is no then i'll be looking for another job in march when jobs for sept are released. Although i am aware finding job share will be hard! If i havent found anything within those 2 months i'll be returning mid july to get my pay over the summer whilst i carry on looking for job and if i am successful in finding job then i'll work my notice (13wks to validate mat pay)- union said i can include the summer hols in that 13 weeks so i'd go back june and work til end of year and finish there 31st aug and start new job in sept. We'll see. Stressful but trying not to think about it!

Bakingabean · 21/04/2019 22:05

@bubblegumunicorn mine likes music too and sugar! If I eat anything sweet he gets really excited! Had half a cupcake after dinner and now he won't stop!

PinkLady89x · 21/04/2019 22:14

@Blueberry2018 I'm a full time teacher but luckily not due until 27th aug. My plan is to work up until the end of term as I'll be around 35 weeks so fingers crossed for August pay.
I've completely freaked myself out today - maybe it's having too much time on my hands because of the bank holiday time but I'm worried her movements aren't as strong today. I'm only 21+5 and only ever felt her for the first time 2 weeks ago anyway so this is all new to me. I have been feeling her all day at different times but earlier in the week I had some very strong movements and I just haven't felt them that strong for the last few days. Still lots of movement but they feel quite weak. Is this normal? Or once they get strong should they stay that way? Anyone else experiencing this please let me know 😅.
Still being sick everyday and that's getting a bit much now! Also must have cut myself shaving today and freaked myself out at the tiniest dash of red in underwear. Literally a tiny pin prick size. Sorry for my anxiety ridden post but I'm sure I'm not the only one who has days like this?? 🤷🏼‍♀️ these next 18 weeks can't come quick enough!!

ScotsBaby2 · 22/04/2019 06:31

@PinkLady89x I was really anxious yesterday about it all. I had d&v then tight tummy muscles. All ok though, I think. My movements are still quite sporadic and I'm 23 weeks. As far as I know it's normal.
