Good luck for tomorrow @Yakadee

Yakadee · 28/01/2019 21:17

@maxiflump1 - thank you! How're you getting on? X

lanalawr · 28/01/2019 21:18

Congratulations @emalady !

@maxiflump1 I'm sorry your stuck in limbo at the moment. Hope you manage to get some rest though (and some answers soon).

@Yakadee good luck for tomorrow!

lanalawr · 28/01/2019 21:22

Those of you who are expressing colostrum antenatally, how much are you getting each time? I've just tried for the first time and managed 0.8ml. From what I've read this is a reasonable amount but that's just based on google. I now have one solitary syringe in a zip lock bag in the freezer. Hopefully I'll be able to add to it and have a reasonable number just in case they're needed when the baby arrives.

AvoidingMarking · 28/01/2019 21:25

@emalady congratulations!

@HugoBearsMummy in my area you have to phone before you go in. From what I remember last time, they said to call when contractions were 7 minutes apart not 5.

I was given a leaflet by my midwife that was very similar to this one: www.ouh.nhs.uk/patient-guide/leaflets/files/12492Pstreptococcus.pdf

Though mine says I can't use the birth pool and that one says you can so I'll check on Friday when I see her again!

hayley013 · 28/01/2019 21:40

Congratulations @emalady and good luck for tomorrow @Yakadee. Hope you manage to get some sleep, @maxiflump1 too x

Celebelly · 28/01/2019 21:46

@lanalawr The last time, I got about 1ml but the times before I was only getting a few drops so it's taken a while to work up to it (and get technique right!). Now it's coming a lot easier and doesn't take as much encouraging. I have a lone sad little syringe in the freezer too! Grin

lanalawr · 28/01/2019 22:03

@Celebelly thanks. How long have you been trying and how many weeks are you? I struggle with moving my hand around to different positions but pleased I got something.

Lookingforadvice123 · 28/01/2019 22:07

Congratulations emalady!!! I can't believe so many people are having their babies. I'm still only 36+5!

My midwife will now test for GBS if asked, so I think it depends on the trust. I did a lower vaginal swab at my 36 week appointment last week. I paid for a private kit last time, did it at 37 weeks.

I do see the NHS' point about not testing routinely - apparently it could lead to a lot of women being treated unnecessarily, and women who need treating being missed, as there's no way of testing and getting the results back when women are in labour, which is when it matters. So I could test positive now at 36 weeks but it could have cleared by 40 weeks!

Celebelly · 28/01/2019 22:16

@lanalawr I'm 38+2. I started trying around 37 weeks but didn't really know what I was doing first couple of times! I've probably tried four or five times now overall, and it's only last couple that enough has come out to properly collect. Now I can get a steady little flow of drips coming out of each. I collect it in a sterile cup and then suck it up from there as it works better for me than trying to get each drop with a syringe.

HugoBearsMummy · 28/01/2019 23:05

@AvoidingMarking thank you for sharing that information it's been really helpful Smile

emalady · 29/01/2019 04:21

@maxiflump hope you managed get some rest, we were so lucky labour ward was basically empty when I was in. Hope you get a plan soon.

@yakadee good luck today! Meeting your little one is just the best.

Those that are still waiting it'll come around so fast.

Anyone else up with a baby feeding /only settling on them? I'm so glad netflix exists, doing this without TV on demand must be so much harder!

welshweasel · 29/01/2019 04:42

Yep I’m feeding @emalady, I’d forgotten how often newborns feed! Luckily I can swaddle him and put him straight down after so it’s not too bad.

babyp160 · 29/01/2019 05:17

No feeding here just insomnia and nausea is back!

Congrats I love the name!!!

@lanalawr expressing here. First time I got 0.05 then 0.15 (practise days) and now I'm freezing 1ml on day 5. Had more in me yesterday but run out of syringes so off to get some bigger ones today.
How long do you do it for?

Yakadee · 29/01/2019 05:49

Thanks everyone - today is the day. We've only had a sprinkling or snow so that's good. I know the mum's will have slept badly worrying about it, I just smelt badly anyway lol. Have to be at hospital for 7am so up and about now and leaving around 6:30am.

Hope everyone is OK today xx

2019Mama · 29/01/2019 06:01

@Yakadee Good luck today x

Yakadee · 29/01/2019 06:05

Haha slept not smelt. I did have a shower for the occasion! 😂😂😂

Fredthespider · 29/01/2019 06:21

Hope all goes well today @Yakadee and you’re not left waiting too ping to meet your little one!

Huge congratulations @emalady!!

Fredthespider · 29/01/2019 06:21

Ping = long...

Notquiteagandt · 29/01/2019 06:30

Good luck @Yakadee Flowers id just see bit of snow as perfrct excuse to hibinate with the new arrival.

powkin · 29/01/2019 06:48

Good luck @Yakadee! All of us awake nice and early I see 😂

welshweasel · 29/01/2019 08:26

Good luck @yakadee, hope you’re not waiting too long to meet your baby!

Iolo is a week old today. It’s flown by! He did really well with sleeping again last night, with two lots of 3 and a half hours back to back so I’m feeling good. Still feeding every hour or so in the day though which is exhausting as I’m trying to breastfeed every time and reduce the number of top ups. He just seems so hungry!! I fed him at 9pm then went to bed and my husband gave him a bottle at 10pm and another at 1115pm before bringing him to bed, then he woke to feed from me at 1am!! Hopefully he’s going to have started putting weight back on when he’s weighed tomorrow.

Off to register the birth this morning then for a pub lunch.

bubblybrit · 29/01/2019 09:41

Good luck @Yakadee!! Xx

lanalawr · 29/01/2019 09:43

Thanks @Celebelly and @babyp160. I was 38+3 yesterday and it was my first attempt. I did about five minutes on each side twice and just sucked the drops straight into a syringe from my nipples. I don't know if I'm doing things 'right' though.

So exciting @Yakadee - hope you aren't waiting too long today.

Sounds like a lovely plan for the day @welshweasel. I'm slightly jealous (could fancy a pub lunch). Last week of work for me though - hooray!

maxiflump1 · 29/01/2019 10:59

Finally seen the consultant and being sent home. Still have mild contractions every 10 mins but managed to get a decent nights sleep. And the best news is they’ve moved my section forward to this Friday when I'll be 39 weeks on the dot. So hopefully a couple of quiet days at home with baby staying put and then DD on Friday.
