Hope no-one else has started a new thread, I couldn't find it if so.

Just wanted to send hugs of support to Holly. I hope it all goes well.

Will check in tomorrow if I can to update.

Good luck!

Thanks for advice girls. Am trying hard not to feel too down but tbh have been in tears for last 2 days. I know it's not the end of the world if I do have to give up, and think no less of those who have made that choice, it's just not what I wanted.

daisyandbabybootoo · 02/07/2007 21:52

Claire is about...hopefully she'll be able to help!

The BF drop in sounds great holly...I'm going to go to the Baby Cafe on Thursday, but its only on for an hour and a half, so I suppose it'll be limited how much help they can give

claire74 · 02/07/2007 21:56

Tb- Your doing a really good job, and your not doing anything wrong, and its great that you want to keep breastfeeding.

How old is your lo?

To try and help you online to increase your milk supply can I ask have you had your attachment checked, are you happy with the attachment?

claire74 · 02/07/2007 21:59

How much did your lo weigh at birth and how much does she weigh now?

Klaw · 02/07/2007 22:00

Breastfeeding support lines

Call them all NOW and don't stop till you get it sorted, please!!!!

claire74 · 02/07/2007 22:17

Hi again, I've got to go and feed lo in a min, so won't be on here until tomorrow, I will leave you with a little advice, but obviously hard to completely diagnose without your answers to many questions.

ways to build up your breast supply

Once effective attachment has been achieved the most important thing for you to do is to put your baby to the breast as often as you can for the first 2 days atleast every 2 hours - throughout the night aswell, this will mean waking up your baby, but if your supply is dwindling, it will benefit hugely from a couple of days of feeding often, let your baby feed for aslong as he wants.

Another way of increasing the stimulation to the breasts is to express milk, I know you have tried this and not had much luck but do keep trying have you got an electric pump, these are so much better than the hand ones, the mileda ones are great. Also try massaging the breast while the baby is feeding this can also help to deliver more milk.

I can't really offer advice on whether formula feeds are needed as I don't have your babies birth weight and weight now, but if you have been advised this then I suggest you do this, but always offer both your breast first.

HTH I will check in tomorrow

Sorry Claire -was desperately trying to pump out a few mls while watching TV to take mind off it.

LO was 3.12kg @ birth, was 2.96 when left hosp. Initially put on well in first few days home but then I got really bad mastisis & think milk was just not getting through. She is now down to 2.98. I have tried to b/f her all day- she will latch on, feed for 5-10 min then just lay there with boob in her mouth giving very occasional suck. Think she has good p&a as had lot of help with that in hosp. & m/w has checked too.

TALLULAHBELLE · 02/07/2007 23:03

She is 16 days old today.

TALLULAHBELLE · 02/07/2007 23:08

Thanks to everyone for advice. Will check in tomorrow & let u know how it goes.

foxybrown · 03/07/2007 10:16

Hi all, just checking in to say dunno whats going on.

Made tonights dinner of cottage pie at 7am, which is the biggest sign of anything happening I've had.

A leaky fanjo and tummy ache, and insisting DP takes all the stuff for the charity shop before work this morning or its divorce accompanies it.

Must be in labour then.

justbeme · 03/07/2007 10:38

FOXY!! ARE YOU IN LABOUR?!

justbeme · 03/07/2007 11:44

Thats funny Daisy, I was thinking about them about the same time as you typed ( I sometimes get abit psycic sp?). and I was blaming you for the bad weather, 'cos if you'd sent them Im sure it would have been sunny!! LOL -mind you might have been handy if I lived in Sheffield -- no worries, im sure ive not got much longer to go now.

Just back from dog walk - it CHUCKED it down and i didnt have a coat or anything - so Arnie and I sheltered under a tree - I must have looked a right sight - 9mths PG, rolling my jeans up too my legs !!! and now Im home - the suns come out - flaming marvellous!

daisyandbabybootoo · 03/07/2007 11:46

arnie...what a cool name for a dog!

I'm convinced that the rain is a punishment sent from above for me not getting my ass in gear and sending them....

...."shorts...what need has she of shorts the selfish cow".....that sort of thing!

hollyandalice · 03/07/2007 11:48

The rain is punishment for me not being organised and buying a rain cover for my pushchair!

justbeme · 03/07/2007 11:54

Daisy, you anything BUT a selfish cow!! You give out good advice and are very generous - you must stop putting yourself down!!

and Holly, yes you're very disorganised!!!!!

justbeme · 03/07/2007 11:55

But thank you both for keeping me company!!!

daisyandbabybootoo · 03/07/2007 12:41

aaawww jbm, that's a nice thing to say....i feel all warm and fuzzy now ....or maybe thats just the sleep deprivation

foxybrown · 03/07/2007 12:49

Hello!

justbeme · 03/07/2007 13:09

Hello Foxy - oh you of few words!!
Whatsup??

claire74 · 03/07/2007 13:21

Foxybrown good luck,

Tb- your lo's weight loss, is obviously a concern and must be very worrying for you.

I hope you have got a bfc to come and visit you very soon, unfortunately I can't diagnose what the problem could be on here, but all you can do is do everything which i mentioned in my earlier post to increase your supply- feeding little and often which it sounds like your baby is doing is great, especially at night, I know it must be exhausting for you, but it really doesn't take long to build up a good supply.

Lots of skin to skin aswell.

If your baby is doing lots of wet nappies, its a pretty sure sign she is getting enough milk, about 6 urinations a day is a good guide.

A second opinion from a paedatrician regarding the weight loss is also a good idea, as weight loss isn't always down to low milk supply from the mother, but could be something to do with your babies digestive system.

Hope you get it back on track soon.
