@lanalawr I measured big but averaged out at the end of pregnancy with DS, they might send you for a scan at 32 weeks if still measuring big then, and if so could just induce at 39 weeks. Provided just a big baby and no other issues you could probably stay midwife lead. I’ve got history of big baby’s in family and a thyroid issue and they are still happy for midwife lead birth just a consultant reviews of pregnancy.

lanalawr · 16/11/2018 21:18

Thanks @Lulabell1 and @Welshshepherdess I know it's not always accurate but I'm going to spend the next few weeks thinking about it. Next midwife appointment is in 3 weeks so I suppose I'll have to see what's said then (and at GTT). Do you ever get results from GTT while you're there or are the bloods sent off?

babyp160 · 16/11/2018 22:00

@lanalawr measuring big here too but no gestational diabetes. Just a big baby. Midwife said if he carries on at this rate I'll just be induced early.

Since2016 · 16/11/2018 22:39

I measured big last time - family history of big babies. Had a growth scan at 32 weeks and likely to be the same again. I was MW led originally but then consultant but still started off in the birth centre. DD was estimated at growth scan as 8-8.5, she came out at 9.11... try not to worry. If there are no other risk factors I don’t see why you couldn’t stay MW led.

Since2016 · 16/11/2018 22:40

Bloods will be sent off for GTT as they won’t do point of care testing for it - at least I don’t think they can for this test and certainly don’t where I am

lanalawr · 16/11/2018 22:42

I'm not really worried about a vaginal birth of a bigger baby if it came to that. I just really want to avoid the consultant led unit if at all possible. Induction or transferring to consultant led would mean I'd have to be there though. I doubt they'd let me start off on the MLU if I was consultant led and went into spontaneous labour and I only arrived there 30 mins before dd was born so probably won't have loads of time anyway.
Thanks for clarifying results timings for GTT.

Lookingforadvice123 · 17/11/2018 07:31

I'm a bit worried about this too lanalawr, I'm my 28 week appointment isn't until I'm 29+1 and I just know I'm going to measure big, I feel like my bump is huge. Was your DD big?

powkin · 17/11/2018 07:56

Yep, I was right about being in pain today from stair tumble! Have obviously done some soft tissue damage to my upper arm, which means every time I want to roll back onto my left side it really bloody hurts 🙄 can’t believe I’ve managed to do yet another mischief to myself that’s making it hard to sleep :(

Also haven’t had flu jab yet due to having nasty cold and worrying my immune system wouldn’t handle it, but now I’ve heard people mentioning the flu word and I’m panicking a bit - must get it done next week!

Camsie30 · 17/11/2018 08:31

I've also been told that I'm measuring a bit big which is weird as last time I was measuring small! My daughter was born at 39 weeks and was 6 pounds, hoping this guy won't be too much bigger!!

Yakadee · 17/11/2018 08:42

I'm measuring just over top line too but have been told it's fine so long as she follows the same line / curve. Apparently my son was measuring 71st but was 9lb2? Who knows! X

Since2016 · 17/11/2018 08:57

Like I said @lanalawr I ended up being consultant led last time and was adamant about being on the MLU - they let me start there despite having had consultant intervention and review on the labour ward beforehand (I bounced between both several times).

AliceRR · 17/11/2018 09:05

@powkin sorry about your fall. I remember when i fell down the stairs a month or so ago and it really hurt!

You should get your flu jab done soon if you can and at least you wont be worrying about it

powkin · 17/11/2018 09:19

Put my tights on backwards this morning... luckily they are still too big! Going to be a fun 3.5 hour journey, I don’t fancy changing them in the train toilets!

lanalawr · 17/11/2018 09:21

@Lookingforadvice123 dd was 7lbs 12oz so average size. Was your ds big? I don't know anyone locally who measured big, only small, so don't have anyone to ask locally. I'm nowhere near the line so it's not even a case of just being a bit big. I'll just have to wait and see the results of GTT and next midwife appointment. It's going to be a long few weeks.
@powkin I'm sorry you're struggling after your fall. It doesn't make pregnancy any easier. Rubbish news about the tights too - I can sympathise with tights issues on a train. It's not pleasant.

powkin · 17/11/2018 09:22

@AliceRR - I have pretty good reflexes and was so concerned about not falling down hard on my bum that I managed to grab the bannister but that’s obviously damaged a load of tissue. It’s the second time in my life I’ve managed the same manoever. The first time it was at the top of the stairs and I was home alone so if I’d properly fallen I would have been in real trouble. My brain has obviously learned the right technique!

Lookingforadvice123 · 17/11/2018 09:36

No very similar lanalawr, 7 lb 13. DH was almost 10lb so there is a slight history of big babies but he was the only one of his siblings who was that big, I think my sister was the same size as DS and I was just over 8 lb so average.

I'll let you know how my measurements go at my appointment, which isn't for 3 weeks Hmm the midwife is only there two days apparently and unfortunately the week I then 28 weeks is my busiest in work so it's too difficult to arrange one for then.

babyp160 · 17/11/2018 10:07

In didn't fall but pushing a asda trolley last night the 2 front wheels got stuck on a sticking up bit of paving stone and made me bump my bump into the handle.

Baby is kicking away so I haven't said anything.

More embarrassing that the cashier before that was like Mr Bean in Love Actually and took forever!! So I was peed off anyway and shouted for fu*k sake!!!! Really loud in a busy square! 🙈

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 17/11/2018 11:02

I went in for monitoring on Thursday, as I’d had reduced movements for a day or so.. wasn’t overly worried, but they say to go in so.. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m measuring three weeks ahead. Again, it doesn’t bother me as it doesn’t really mean anything. As long as it follows the same line of growth it’s fine. Fundal height measurements don’t necessarily equate to baby size either, could be fluid etc that’s making the measurement high. Bigger babies are apparently easily to birth than small ones too... so I’m hoping for a chunky one anyway 😂

powkin · 17/11/2018 11:48

My next midwife appointment is at 26.6 weeks - I guess she’s not around or is too busy the week after? She’s also amazing at getting the dates wrong. Not sure if it’s a big deal or not. I was measuring a bit big last time so guess we’ll see how I’m doing next Thursday.

AliceRR · 17/11/2018 12:04

@babyp160 I worry about bumping my bump but then assume fine if she’s moving around... That last part made me laugh 😂

Celebelly · 17/11/2018 12:27

I'm always bashing myself off stuff! Baby is going to come out with dents all over her.

28 weeks today so officially in third trimester! Eek!

Since2016 · 17/11/2018 12:54

@powkin hope you’re not hurting too much that sounds nasty x

babyp160 · 17/11/2018 12:55

@AliceRR I was on my own too so technically swore at the trolley. May find a new supermarket 🙈

Yakadee · 17/11/2018 13:25

I head butted a flipping clothes rail in sainsburys earlier! Right in the bloody forehead! Not sure if anyone saw me but it hurt lol. X

AliceRR · 17/11/2018 13:52

@Celebelly I’m 28 weeks tomorrow!
