OK I know it's VERY early days folks but someone's got to start this thread sometime. Due date between May 4 and May 9. Any other takers?

Hi Cab! I did another test this morning and was about the same, maybe a tiny bit darker. I'm really interested to read that you got a pos, a neg and then two pos. I tried taking a test yesterday afternoon and it was basically neg. It seems it has to be first morning urine for it to work right now.

I'm sorry to hear about your chemical pregnancies. How did they diagnose them? When will you find out about this pregnancy? We should have a scan at 8 weeks since we had a m/c last time but I'm not going to see my GP until after AF is due which isn't until Thursday!

I had a lot of aches and pains with DS so hopefully it's just your bosy adjusting. I've read that the ligaments can start softening very early on and it can be a bit uncomfortable. Good luck with the aspirin. I know quite a few American girls that have used it with success.

fisil · 05/09/2004 09:59

Hi cab, he tex, hi jnbsmum, I'm here to join you! I had a scan yesterday and had my due date moved from 26th April to 3rd May. So I think I shall linger between the threads!

Anyone else holding out for a 05/05/05 delivery? That would be just the collest date of birth!

cab · 05/09/2004 10:04

Hi Tex. I knew there would be a message from you, because if you're anything like me you won't be able to think about much else at the moment.
Must admit I was too impatient to do early morning tests although they should be more likely to show a positive early on.
Before AF is due you're talking about VERY small levels of hormones so it doesn't take much to 'dilute' the result (thus your positive/neg/positive). I didn't get a really dark line until 3 days before AF was due (with some folk it's a week after), the (very) feint positive was 8 days before AF due, the negative was 2 days later!
When we were on the due Jan thread all I got was feints and negatives - never a very dark line. Didn't know my dates, checked with doc and she said EPU had said it wasn't worth investigating cos so early on and called it a biochemical pregnancy. (GP did do various blood tests - I think just to cheer me up).
Since then, have known dates, felt sick in evenings a week or so before AF has arrived, tested got feint lines etc but AF has arrived, haven't told the doc.
This month I had told my husband I wanted an end to it all (almost 41) so was going to go on pill while he waited for the snip. Then felt sick again and started testing. (Hadn't started the pill). Typically this is the first time since my miscarriage at 12 weeks (blighted ovum) 2.5 years ago that I've had very definite positives. Husband's reaction has been to suggest a d&c because he now suddenly thinks we're too old and have a perfect 4yr old dd anyway. Told him it wasn't an option and have just been trying to dwell on the positives of either outcome. He's becoming slightly more positive over the last few days.
Let me know how your testing goes. When is your AF due? Sorry this is so long.

CONGRATULATIONS Fisil .
Took so long writing the below tomb I missed your message!
050505 would certainly be an easy one to remember!
Hope you're feeling happier now you've had the scan? (Was being nosy yesterday on the April thread 0.

Hi cab - life is never simple, is it? It sounds like you've been through a really rough time. Will you get yourself an early scan?

cab · 05/09/2004 10:36

Hi Fisil - it's not been as bad as it sounds - honest. Would like a scan after 7 weeks. Haven't been to docs yet, but if she can't organise one for me I'll go private.

OP posts:
fisil · 05/09/2004 20:46

where are you cab? round here you can have as many free scans in EPU as you want. They recognise "anxiety" as a good enough reason!

karen01 · 05/09/2004 20:57

Just wanted to say coongratulations to you all, and good luck. From a June 04 mum.

Fisil were abouts are you ?? I had to go private for my 12wks scan as the area I was living at the time didn't do them as they said they were a waste of time !!!!!

fisil · 06/09/2004 06:49

SWLondon. If you don't have an EPU close by, go to A&E and say you've been bleeding and you're really anxious. Then you get a scan. Lie if neceddary. I am a great believer in those early scans!

karen01 · 06/09/2004 06:59

fisil- are you at ST Georges. I had DD there in 1996, was in there for 9wks in total and found it very good.

tex111 · 06/09/2004 15:37

Did another test this morning, a little darker but still light. I'm using some new tests from a medical supply company and I don't know how dark they should be. Decided to use a First Response test I had left over from last month and it was a definite ++++!! I'm starting to accept that fact that I'm really pregnant now.

Overjoyed and terrified since I'm so afraid of having another miscarriage. We'll get an early scan at 8 weeks which will hopefully put my mind at ease. I'm going to see my GP next week to get the ball rolling. AF is due Thursday and I'd rather wait and be absolutely certain before seeing the doc.

Cab, hope you have a great scan. When will you book it? We haven't told a soul yet either but I had a dream last night that I was at a family reunion and just blurted it out! I'm dying to tell my parents but DH wants to wait until next weekend (just to make sure). He's much more level-headed about these things than I am.

Hi Fisil, and welcome. A friend's baby has the birthdate of 1/2/3 which is pretty cool. They were aiming for 12/3/4 with their second but missed it by a few days.

Anyone got any symptoms yet? I'm starting to get that I-need-to-eat-RIGHT-NOW feeling and feeling a little dizzy/sicky in the mornings. Also started napping with DS after lunch but I did that sometimes anyway.

smellymelly · 06/09/2004 16:35

Congrats Tex111 - hope you get on just fine. Good luck with the sickness, not sure I ever want to do that again!!

xxx

piglit · 06/09/2004 16:46

Fisil - just wanted to pop in and say congratulations. I hope it all goes smoothly for you.

Azure · 06/09/2004 16:48

Tex111 many congratulations on your BFP!

fisil · 06/09/2004 18:34

tex, a positive is a positive, no matter how faint! Mine was really faint - and now I've found out why - because I was only 3 weeks 2 days! Karen I'm not actually at George's for the birth, but I've always been there for EPU!

cab · 06/09/2004 20:26

Thanks for the good wishes Karen.
Fisil there is an EPU quite close by but you need to be referred by the doc - don't think I could fib about spotting - or could I ? Did you get a photo at the scan?
Tex can now properly say CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! -First Response is pretty clear isn't it - that luminous pink colour is pretty unmistakeable!! Would LIKE a scan around 7 to 8 weeks (I'm 5 weeks today) so should probably go and see the doc end of this week/start of next week. (Not looking foward to going cos last time I went to confirm a pregnancy I started spotting en route and got a neg test at the docs despite a postive test at home the day (or a few days?) before. Immediately dissolved into tears on her . Please God don't let that happen again.) Let us know how you get on at the docs!
TRY not to worry too much about the miscarriage thing - it IS really unusual to have two -honest. You've got a MUCH better chance of this pregnancy lasting 40 weeks than not!!! YOU ARE PREGNANT - ENJOY IT. (Well that's what I keep telling myself anyway.)
Noticed my hair and nails are growing a lot quicker at the moment, feel pretty tired esp in the evening and VERY bloated (evenings), boobs almost voluptuous (normally a AA), but no longer feeling sicky in the evenings. No change in appetite except that I keep lying in bed at night thinking "mmm shortbread".
How are you doing jnbsmum???

OP posts:
fisil · 06/09/2004 21:38

lie!

tex111 · 07/09/2004 16:14

It's quiet on here today.

Thanks for the congrats you guys!! I think it's finally sinking in that we're really pregnant.

Cab, I know what you mean about crying in front of a doctor. It's a horrible feeling to realise that it hasn't worked out. I'm doing my best to start enjoying the pregnancy. I sent a giant fortune cookie to my parents this morning with a limerick telling them that I'm pregnant again. I think having them know will make it more real.

How is everyone else doing?

jnbsmum · 07/09/2004 18:08

Hi everyone and congrats to all. I'm glad to hear everyone is well. I'm feeling quite strange really. With the first 2 i was sick as a dog and felt like cr#p. This time i have absolutly no symptoms. Tbh it doesn't feel right. I'm now really worried about mc. Im probably being silly.

cab · 07/09/2004 21:25

Tex when will your folks get the fortune cookie?

Jnb - wouldn't worry too much re no symptoms - didn't have much my first time round either and they do say each pregnancy is different. Still it's hard not to worry I know. Have you spoken to the doc yet? How's your husband being?

Fisil you are very naughty - and I just happen to be a rotten liar - perhaps they'll offer me an early scan anyway.

A May thread already?! blimey, such a great time to have bambinos. Well done and fingers crossed that your rank grows!

I can't believe I was doing this same thing this time last year . . .

tex111 · 09/09/2004 07:53

All my American friends are telling me to get a beta. It's a blood test that measures the level of HCG in the blood and can be a predictor or a healthy pregnancy or not. It can even predict multiples at this early stage. Do you guys know if it's available in the UK? Apparently it's pretty standard in the States, especially after m/c. You can get one every week to make sure your levels are rising accordingly. I would LOVE to have that information! I'm going to see my GP next week and will ask her about it. I'd be willing to pay if it meant some reassurance right now rather than waiting for the scan at 8 weeks.

Jnbsmum, maybe you could ask your doctor about the blood test too. You never know, they might say yes. I'm terrified of m/c too, so we're in the same boat. Hang in there.

Cab, Mom and Dad get the cookie today so I'll probably get an ecstatic phone call around midnight tonight. They never can get the time difference right or they just ignore it!

smellymelly · 09/09/2004 08:22

They do that blood test here too Tex111, but you may have to beg your GP. Mine wouldn't give it to me, but as soon as I rang the EPU (Early pregnancy unit) they invited me in for an immediate scan and blood test at 5 weeks. (That was because I had the ectopic last year). My first blood test results were so high, it indicated twins immediately - but we knew that coz we had seen the scan!

cab · 09/09/2004 08:25

Tex hope they don't waken you up in the early hours!
The beta test is available here but NHS services vary widely by area so you'll just have to ask your doc and see what she says - sounds like a sensible idea to me. Maybe I'll ask too.
Still haven't made an appointment!
How's everyone else doing?
