@toomanyflatwhites did you know we can have Brie if it's cooked?! It's on the nhs website. It was a game changer for me - I didn't realise last time until after Christmas, but as long as you cook it so it's hot you can have bread, Brie and cranberry til your heart's content! Or Camembert! I only use pasteurised ones though.

toomanyflatwhites · 15/11/2018 12:45

@toasterstrudle but I don't like cooked Brie! Waaahhhhh!! Though based on what @Blondcat said about changing how you feel about things maybe I'll develop a taste for it if it's my only option ;)

All this talk of midwife vs consultant led has me wondering - will I be automatically consultant led because I'm 40? I had a friend who has her 1st at 41/42 and she was, though they later signed her off as mw led - but not sure if that being her first was the reason. Have got ages to wait until my booking in appointment as they scheduled it for this Sunday (wtf?!) and we're away, so next possible date I could do because of work commitments is 3rd Dec - and my 12 week scan is 2 days later. Have got private scan first though (and harmony test) so it's going to be a busy few weeks of appointments!

JBCG · 15/11/2018 12:46

I have just done possibly the most stupid thing I've done in a long time. I was supposed to have my mw booking in appointment today but my consultant advised to postpone it until after my scan next week. So I popped out the office and called up to just check they'd received that message from my consultant but no one answered. I must have gone into work mode as I was leaving a voice message which is not something I do outside of work. Basically I just told them to call me back on my work number!!! I don't have a direct line so literally anyone in my office could answer that call and no one knows I'm pg yet! Please tell me that they won't say where they're calling from and I'm worrying for nothing! I can't believe I was so stupid!

toomanyflatwhites · 15/11/2018 12:47

Oh and my sister just told me my Nephew has been diagnosed with mild chicken pox, and we're meant to be seeing them at the weekend. She is sure he doesn't have it (he has had it twice before!), and have looked up the risks of exposure in pregnancy and as I've had it it shouldn't be a problem (though my DD hasn't...). My family don't know out news yet and can't tell them right now as it's an anniversary of a death in the family and don't think it would be right to tell them this weekend - what would you do?

toomanyflatwhites · 15/11/2018 12:48

@JBCG call straight back and leave another message!

stellarfox · 15/11/2018 12:54

@JBCG yes I would keep ringing them and leave another message to explain!

@toomanyflatwhites is this your only opportunity with all the family there or are you seeing them again soon? If you don’t see them all together often you could tell them. I suppose it depends how recent the death was? If it was a year ago I wouldn’t but if it’s been a few years then I doubt anyone would be offended. Depends what your family are like though!

JBCG · 15/11/2018 12:56

Thanks ladies. I've called again and left another message explaining my stupidity and leaving my mobile number instead so now just have to hope they listen to both messages before calling me!

toomanyflatwhites · 15/11/2018 13:03

@stellarfox it was actually 6 years ago but was my sister's husband, she was pregnant (with said rash-y nephew) at the time and mentally she is in very bad shape even now. Seems like it wouldn't be right - especially as we are going to tell them we are planning to get married too! Hoping good news after the anniversary would be welcome but doesn't seem right on the day - and we see them fairly often.

coastergirl · 15/11/2018 13:17

I had my booking appointment yesterday. It was fine. I will be consultant led but I already knew that. I'll have the usual midwife appointments at my gp surgery and will see the same midwife right the way through. Will also see the consultant every now and again. GTT at 17 and 28 weeks due to previous gestational diabetes. They gave me my dating scan appointment for 10th December but based on my early scan last week, I'll only be 10 weeks. I told them and they said I could just use it to have another look at baby, but on reflection I think I'm going to change it. I've got my private rescan this Saturday, and it's difficult for work to cover me so I don't want to make it harder by having extra unnecessary appointments.

curlypasta · 15/11/2018 14:30

Second half of booking in appointment today (9wks) and bloods all clear Grin but unfortunately my bp is way up (193/125!) so I’ve been placed on bed rest, and already got appointment for my consultant on sat am and emergency meds to bring it down. What a fucking ball ache. So I’m in bed feeling nauseous and annoyed Angry

fee1234 · 15/11/2018 14:43

@Torsz how was scan?

I have my scan in a few hours, and last time I went in she couldn't see that much because I had 'too much bowel gas' in the way of baby 😳 so ladies my one tip before getting a scan.. get all the farts out!!

Torsz · 15/11/2018 14:51

@fee1234 it was incredible! Just on our way home now... we saw heartbeat and arms and legs and feet, and have been given a due date of 31 May which is pretty much what we thought... and she said everything looked good. Hopefully I've attached a photo, although I have no idea what I'm doing 😂

JBCG · 15/11/2018 14:58

Congratulations @Torsz! What a lovely scan picture!

You poor thing @curlypasta! Sending positive thoughts your way xx

Torsz · 15/11/2018 15:01

@JBCG thank you! We paid for 2 but ended up with 6 which was really lovely of her - I just can't stop staring at them haha! Now I have to try not to tell anyone until we see my family on Sunday 😂☺️

Torsz · 15/11/2018 15:01

@curlypasta sorry to hear you're feeling rubbish but brilliant news re: the bloods!

Blondcat · 15/11/2018 15:18

Wow @curlypasta I thought I had high blood pressure sometimes 145/95 but that is really high! Currently mine is sitting about normal but I have an electronic monitor at home now to keep an eye on it so checking every few days. (bought from amazon for about £25 and worth it so far as I get white coat syndrome which sends mine higher). Been told by mw to take baby aspirin from 12 weeks (mum had high blood pressure during mine and brothers pregnancies as well as my history and age). Hope you get sorted soon

Kescilly · 15/11/2018 15:31

@curlypasta that sounds miserable, I hope you’re able to get some rest!

Reastiepeace · 15/11/2018 16:14

Fee Shock to the bowel gas

Curly poor you. Do you generally have high bp or is it a joy of pg thing? At least they know about it so they’re treating it and keeping a close eye on you.

Torsz that picture is fantastic, so much like a little baby!

Torsz · 15/11/2018 16:17

@Reastiepeace thanks ☺️ it still doesn't feel real to be honest!
My favourite part was every so often baby did this little jump, it was adorable! She said they move jerkily at this stage but it was the cutest thing 😄

curlypasta · 15/11/2018 16:26

Thankyou everyone Smile I did have hypertension in last pregnancy as well, got put on bed rest at 20 weeks but this is obviously a bit early!
I’m resting, thinking sticky bean thoughts and being positive I will not have a stroke. It’s going to be a long 31 weeks!
Tho I do expect this one will be a c section so will be early.
Definitely my last!

Kescilly · 15/11/2018 16:56

Well, the Harmony test didn’t work. I’m really disappointed because we were hoping to tell my in-laws this weekend and now I feel less reassured.

I had a scan at 10+5 and it was okay, but I know things can go wrong in between. Should we still tell them this weekend? I’m 12+0 today.

Reastiepeace · 15/11/2018 17:34

So curly are you likely to be on bed rest for the entire time now? Thats though. Stay safe and healthy (and hope you don’t get cabin fever)

toasterstrudle · 15/11/2018 17:39

@Kescilly what happens when the test doesn't work, can they retest?

It's up to you really - I've always told people early on and I found when I had losses I wanted to talk about it so that was a comfort to me. But some people prefer to have that sort of thing private.

If you've seen a heartbeat on a scan, it's highly likely all will be fine. The statistics are in your favour.

curlypasta · 15/11/2018 17:41

No I’ve got hospital on Saturday morning for assessment and I’m medicated now so fingers crossed bp will come back down.
I just keep repeating ‘it’ll be fine’ I’ve got a toddler and an 8 yr old I can’t stay on bed rest!

Kescilly · 15/11/2018 17:46

@toasterstrudle they are going to redraw my blood. I've looked into it and apparently this isn't entirely uncommon, so some people wait until twelve weeks to have their test done because the concentration of fetal blood is higher. No one told me this before, though.

I think if it doesn't work again, we will just get our money back. I have my NHS scan on Monday and we will opt to have the NT testing done.

My parents have known since 4 weeks but I didn't want to tell my in-laws until we were reasonably sure that the pregnancy would progress. They don't have any grandchildren and I didn't want to get their hopes up too early!
