When I looked after my niece and nephew (aged 2 and a bit yrs and 8 mths when I started looking after them) I used to carry him in a backpack and push her in a stroller - she could walk sometimes but needed stroller if she got tired. We also had double buggy, not the side by side one but one with toddler seat on front. SOme people use sling when 2nd child v young and push older one in pram/stroller.

Although this is 1st baby am considering buying double buggy - one with detachable front toddler seat - then if we have second we dont have to shell out for a new one. Am really enjoying being pg at mo and if we have a second it would have to be fairly soon as I'm 36, so may need double buggy. Probably very anal of me to be planning this far ahead but there you go!

Mind you, I'll prob be sick of being pg later and I've still got htat whole labour/birth/newborn thing ahead of me so maybe I shoudl just get through that first! Before I start planning a second

AnnainNZ · 01/07/2007 00:04

I'll just add, the double buggy was bloody heavy sometimes - remember pushing it up some steep Pennine pavements - lived in Oldham at the time. Kept me fit anyway!

Pixiefish · 01/07/2007 08:19

Anna- don't worry about double buggy for now- it'll be an excuse to get another pram next time

I fully intended to reuse my mamas and papas this time but saw a phit nd ted's dead cheap in mothercare (got it for £260 instead of £350) and so got that and flogged the mamas and paps- got £200 and £60 for an old telly so all in all that paid for the new pram

AnnainNZ · 01/07/2007 10:15

But buying another pram in a couple of years would cost loads and I'm hoping to be SAHM for a while, so anything to save money is good...especially with rubbish maternity leave here! Though I found out this week Australia has no paid parental leave, that's right, none at all. None compulsory anyway, i imagine some companies must have it. APparently they are one of two developed countries that dont' have it, wonder what the other one is?

purplepants · 01/07/2007 10:57

Anna - thats why we've gone for the Phil&Teds e3 as it converts from single to twin & back so easily (I'm a SAHM at the mo too). DH brings our new one home this week & i'm ridiculously excited (am soo sad )

fingers crossed for your offer tomorrow Loopymumsy

just put DS to be early as he refused a nap today & had been on the go non stop since 7 - I'm absolutely pooped. LO has taken up kick boxing big time and has decidedly pointy feet (ouch - and very reminiscent of DS so maybe the same flavour )

Cool, thanks for the pram info ladies.

Am off to work, enjoy the rest of your evening.

easywriter · 01/07/2007 19:45

I didn't want to post but I need to offload a bit of stress.

We've got our 20wk scan tomorrow and I'm bricking it. Not sure why, part of me thinks it's to do with the nucal scan earlier that wasn't a worry in the end but was presented to me as one.

I'm taking DD's tomorrow as they won't accept the bump could be a boy as boys are 'Poo' and 'Yuk' (they're only 3 bless 'em). I'm not entertaining the idea of not taking them as my rational head says 'why shouldn't it be ok and this will be your last scan' but boy am I scared.

Anyway, feel a bit better now. I suspect I'll post every half hour until I set off for the hospital. (I promise I won't).

Now, where's my book with the instructions foe deep yogic breathing...

All will be likely to be well won't it Loopy? But it's like an exam that you just can't settle for.

I swear I never batted an eyelid at any of the billion or so scans I had with the girls, it just never entered my head that anything could possibly be wrong.

I can't stop thinking about it. It's driving me mad. Oh, roll on the morrow, at least I'll know (ish) then.

Hi easywriter - hope everything goes well on your scan tomorrow and you and your DDs have fun pointing out arms, legs and other blurry bits.

RGPargy · 01/07/2007 21:45

Good luck for tomorrow Easywriter. I'm sure everything will be fine.

Pixiefish · 01/07/2007 21:48

good luck for tomorrow Easywriter. I was scared before my scan as well- just going on previous problems with the pregnancy i had convinced myself that there would be something wrong BUT THERE WASN'T as I'm sure yours will be fine as well xxxx

AnnainNZ · 01/07/2007 22:42

Good luck easywriter, I know how you feel. It's impossible not to worry sometimes, I know. But try not to!

purplepants · 02/07/2007 07:36

Hope your scan goes well today easywriter (FWIW I was very nervous before mine too - especially being a geriatric mother & not having any of the tests!!) Lie back and enjoy

Loved all the info about nappies- I used disposables with DDs, but have been thinking about using reusable this time around. Will be checking back for advice. I wish I'd done it before- then it would have been a huge moneysaver as will have had 3 opportunities to use them! But, we never had a washer in our flat in NY. I LOVE that most flats here come with a washer !

Anna- I think it's really wise to think double buggy if you plan on trying for another in the next 2 years. We got a Phil&Ted when DD2 arrived and it's been brilliant. Now DD2 will be 21mos when LO arrives, and I'm so glad we went for it. It bothers me now when I think of things that would have made life easier/cheaper, but I didn't want to spend the money at the time. It would have been worth it after three children!

Easywriter- hope your scan goes well. I'm sure you'll be so relieved when it's through. Mine is late afternoon and I've been nervous as well. We did find out bad news at DD1s scan, so I'm a bit of a wreck until it's over.

RGPargy · 02/07/2007 12:12
