RGPargy · 26/06/2007 17:11

I think time is whizzing by already!!!

sparklygothkat · 26/06/2007 17:15

I know, RG!!! I can't belive I am 21 weeks tomorrow. It doesn't seem that long ago that I got a postive result..

HollyGoHeavily · 26/06/2007 18:06

Hello - can i join in again - I've been lurking but i'm not very good at posting stuff...

I had my 20 week scan today and it was lovely to hear the sonographer say we have a healthy baby in there. I asked about the sex and she told me she couldn't get a good look (my baby had it's knees firmly together) but that she is 80% sure. So, i know don't know wehter to be happy about what she told me or try to ignore it on the grounds there is a 20% chance she may be wrong!

The company I work for have sent me a form to fill in about my maternity leave and they want to know when i am leaving. I don't really know what to put - I have a desk based job a 30 minute drive from my home so there is no H&S reason for me to leave early. I'm just really not sure what im going to feel like at the end of pregnancy. I've gone for starting my leave at the end of october with the baby due on the 14th November which gives me just over two weeks. Has anyone else had to make a decision yet? Any advice for me ?

Oh by the way I do know the sex, but I'm not telling!!!
Didn't want to find out with my first two children, but after the 3 m/cs and the downs syndrome risk, felt a desperate need to know this time

Pixiefish · 26/06/2007 19:42

Jossie- i felt like that about the sex as well. After the trauma of the amnio I wanted something good to keep me going

jetgirl · 26/06/2007 21:31

It's nice to read such happy news. I was thinking of you today Anna and am thrilled for you - do you feel like you can really enjoy the pregnancy now?

Wondered where you had gone Geekinpigtails! Glad to hear your scan went well yesterday too.

Holly - I'm going on maternity leave at the beginning of October giving me a good few weeks off before the birth. My boss said that I could go at the end of the sumer hols if I wanted, but I couldn't face such a long time waiting! I went early with my first one, and it just seemed endless. I'm still having a reasonable length of time off beforehand because I teach in so many different classrooms that I move around all day, and have to transport all my textbooks, exercise books etc with me which is a pain; I do have someone who takes my trolley now which helps, but the constant moving about it quite tiring and i couldn't face doing that while 8 months pg. Corridors full of pushy teenagers are also not fun when you feel a bit vulnerable!

I've had a massive craving for potato today, so dh very kindly made potato wedges for tea tonight. I had exactly the same first time round so I'm wondering if that means I'll have another girl...

Pixiefish · 27/06/2007 07:17

They've asked me if I'll go back in September for as long as I can and I've siad I will. Don't know how long I'll manage though- we'll have to see. I teach an Out of Education group at the moment and it's not too bad cos it's sucha small group

choudru · 27/06/2007 10:27

Morning ladies,

Jetgirl - I would be wearing body armour walking down corridors of rowdy teenagers!

Mucker - get posting woman! If you've been lurking you know we're pretty harmless. Have you had your scan yet? I'd especially like you to post if you're having a boy - our scan list is a bit girl-biased at the moment...

RGPargy · 27/06/2007 10:35

I had a dream last night that I had a girl!!! Then a few days after she was born i was begging my DP to let me get pregnant again coz i loved being PG and wanted another baby (!!!!!)

I think this thread must be playing on my mind because of the girl influence at the moment!!

choudru · 27/06/2007 10:36

By the way - since I am sensing a lot of us are feeling slightly overwhelmed at the thought of how much we have to do before babies arrive - could we compile a list of essential tasks?

I don't think i am the woman for the job since I already have developed OCD about keeping the scan list updated

Especially would be good to hear from those of us who are already mums. If you look at the baby catalogues you need to buy the whole shop to be fully prepared!

I'll start:

  • Get disposable flip flops for wearing in hospital!
choudru · 27/06/2007 10:39

RG - now MN is infiltrating your dreams?!

I think some of us are spending an unhealthy amount of time and energy on this thread!

My DH has already passed a few comments on it...

RGPargy · 27/06/2007 11:37

Choudru - i know, it's shocking isn't it!!

I spend ridiculous amounts of time in front of a pc, both at work and at home so I'm always on MN. Yikes!!

Why would you buy disposable flip flops? Just buy ones you can wear again as they're mostly all washable (or at least spongeable) anyway!

I have no idea what i've got to do before baby arrives. I've got a personal superstition not to buy a single thing for baby until we've had the 22 week scan. After that, I'll be spending money quicker than a chocoholic in Cadbury World!!!

nykate · 27/06/2007 11:44

Congrats on those scans, ladies! It's nice to catch up on all this good news! I'm surprised how many people are choosing not to know the sex at their scan...it'll be so nice to find out when we share birth stories . Halfway there (more or less) !

I've been feeling particularly tired this pg and not at all 'blooming' yet-despite being over 20 wks. My bloodwork didn't show anemia. Anyone else with young children to care for still feel really tired? I could really use a burst of energy!

I'll be waiting until after my scan to start thinking baby-preparedness as well. It's my 3rd child in 4 years, though, and I doubt I'll need much, really. No fun . I will need lots of advice about what to bring to hospital, though. From what I've read, the checklist looks a bit different than what I'm used to and I want to feel prepared. Flip-flops? Check.

nykate · 27/06/2007 11:56

Loopy- glad to know it's not just me . I've been taking a nap with the girls most days, but am still exhausted. Counting the minutes now until nap time. Ahhhhhhh.

littleoldme · 27/06/2007 12:29

Choudru - a lsit of essentials would be helpful. So far on my list for hosp I've got fluffy socks and the local curry house menu

RG lol at your mn influenced dream. It's when you start sleep-posting you really have to worry.

I'm v tired too. Respect to those of you with kids already. I can't even stay up for the Archers most nights.

Jet - wish you hadn't mentioned potato wedges.mmmm-

How wriggily are everyones bumps? Mine has a good move about then I don't feel anything for a few days. Well it is my first and I'm only 18 weeks.

RGPargy · 27/06/2007 12:39

lol @ littleoldme and your takeaway menu!!! Shocking!! (but oh so necessary)

I must say that my bump is very wriggly today too actually, and has been ever since it's daddy got back from Glasto. I'm sure i felt him/her go very active when he/she heard daddy's voice. Lovely isn't it!

littleoldme · 27/06/2007 12:51

Rg - hey if a girl is going to go through all that the very least she deserves isa decent curry and a cold Kingfisher. That's a point; how to keep the lager cold

RGPargy · 27/06/2007 13:58

Portable fridge or a cool bag??

Actually, in my dream, i remember once i'd had the baby, i was just about to down a pint of something that i think was like an IrnBru WKD but then i remembered that i would be BF so if i got pissed then so would my baby. Bugger!!!!

KnaphillLiz · 27/06/2007 14:00

hello all

My second baby is due 7 November, i already have son aged 2.8,
as far as i'm concerned the only essential thing you are ever going to need for your baby is nappies and sleepsuits, if your bottle feeding then formula bottles and steraliser, you need a car seat to take it home and then a cot/basket for it to sleep in, all its going to do for first few weeks is sleep and drink milk.
My son came at 32 weeks so all we had was the moses basket and pram, everything else my poor husband had to go and get in our local mothercare whilst me and baby stayed in hospital...i know especially with your first you feel pressured and worried into buying every possible thing that it might ever need and loads of stuff that it won't...but remember you will be given shed loads of stuff...really..especially if its your first, you won't be able to move for baby paraphernalia, and its always worth asking round friends who have kids to see what they still have lurking around that they no longer need !
As for hospital, other than nappies and sleep suit for baby, you definately need flip flops (i got two nasty verrucae on my 3 week stay in) and nightie, dressing gown, breast pads (cos you will be leaking) good nursing bra, nipple cream ...oh yes and paper panties (you'll soon find out why oh yes and the essential items...mars bars and a can of guinness apologies for long post , look forward to blathering to you all again..and good luck to you all x

littleoldme · 27/06/2007 14:15

RG - cool bag it is - the alcoholic milks can always be expressed !

KnaphillLiz- welcome to the thread. Like your comment about not needing much stuff. Those baby shops really see us coming don't they.
